You have your basic Fine, Masterwork, Rare and Exotic gear, which you can buy from vendors for cheap
Then there's Ascended which you must craft or get from weeklies, but it has 10% better stats than exo and allows you to slot agony resistance, which is for mechanic in Fractals, end-game dungeons
And there's Legendary, which freely lets you swap stats and freely transmute how it looks
Because stats work a bit different there, for example if you have two medium chestplates with the same stat prefix, then they are exactly the same, down to each and every stat

In an ideal world I feel remakes should only exist to turn really flawed games into what they should have been. I'm fine with a Kotor 2 remake for example because it's in some ways the worst most unfinished game I have played. But then the reality of remakes is that it's a chance for companies to make a quick buck by hiring some shitty company to «remake» and sell their biggest hits again. That's what Konami is doing
