I remember I was chilling in the little area outside of the main Alliance city one time. I think it’s Goldshire. Then a bunch of Hoard players showed up and killed the other players. I ran into one of the small buildings, but they let me go, so I ran to Stormwind City to let everyone else know that the Hoard was coming. They just told me to “shut up” and that I was lying. Then a cool little battle happened outside of the main gates.

Classic servers are pointless imo. It was never about the gameplay, it was about the people - And all of my guildmates have long since moved on.

A lot of what became TBC was originally meant to be Classic content, even parts of Outlands. SoD hasn’t gone that far in adding that content.

Oh well, maybe it’ll be the next seasonal thing for classic.

I was the sweatiest in late TBC for sure.

I joined in Vanilla, but was too young and dumb to grasp the community and lategame. Made it as far as lv40 or something as a hunter once. Completely by myself.

In TBC I got into RP and joined the first? RPPvP server, and found a big guild who eventually got into RP (Technically it fractured into two guilds, then they joined back up as everyone agreed that raiding was fun and something everyone kind of wanted to do)

Never got to see the expansion through due to time constraints, but I enjoyed running Kara and Zul Aman a lot. Gruul was... frustrating as my PC couldn't handle the effects. I was literally playing as healer with 0-1fps for most of that fight.

Anyhow - After WotLK I took a long break from the game. Didn't come back till... Legion? because I was offered to review it and got a digital CE code.

I started in late WotLK myself, just as 3.3 released.

Game wasn't bad, but I was spending more time playing Pandaria and such content than Legion, and by the time I caught up, it wasn't really for me. I remember hating the new artifact gimmick - which they brought back in a new way for the next expansion.

BFA was... also not really my jam. Especially as I am a Horde player. It kind of felt like Alliance got all the interesting content, and Horde were fed with more troll shit.

I played WoW as my main/only MMO until early 2021 during the Shadowlands expansion... then I dipped to FFXIV.

Warcraft Lore fell off when Warlords of Draenor happened.

Alternative pocket universe to bring back Warcraft RTS characters to tie in with the movie but that got delayed and nobody cared for it.

MoP was great as a "past" expansion. I really enjoyed going through the story and the overall vibe of the continent.

BFAs mount grind I think was the final straw. The little gnome island had two mounts you could get, and I spent... months trying to get both with like 7 alts all fighting the same two bosses daily. Only ever got one of them - the one I didn't really want Q_Q

I get tempted to go back to WoW at the start of every raid tier as a lot of my previous raid group still play.

I just don't care for engaging with the wider game in order to raid with the boys.

Can't say I'm a fan of the overly Disney/cartoony art style they've established in WoW.

Even hardware ray tracing for some shadows

The Mac version of WoW is best-in-class for a third party, non app store game IMHO.

Blizzard have always been on the ball with Mac support.

Meanwhile Square Enix are still reliant on a CrossOver compatibility layer for FFXIV to run on macOS. At least they're shipping a native Apple-silicon version of said layer so you don't need Rosetta 2.

It's not actually a native solution.

You also get performance just running the standalone Windows client through WINE directly and setting it up yourself.

Square Enix have decided that Windows/Steam and macOS game clients are completely separate game licenses.

CrossOver is just a frontend with patches to Wine, so it should work the same

They don't want to hire macOS developers in-house so they're licensing an off-the-shelf solution instead of outsourcing to a support studio.

Though kinda weird that while FFXIV works great, FFXIV benchmark doesn't run at all

WoW has always worked great on WINE because there's people on the dev team that are making sure it works for their own PCs

And the corporate structure hasn't yet stopped those employees from making sure it does work

That's because the benchmark does some funky stuff. There was a script you could run that'll open the benchmark so it does run under Proton/WINE.

Once I got past that on my second attempt, the game opens up quite nicely and I really enjoyed A Realm Reborn.

The story definitely peaks in Shadowbringers and Endwalker but the rest of the game is still great in that regard.

The pacing is certainly an issue at times. Parts of Heavensward feel rushed and Stormblood is a little wonky too.

FF14's pacing is less of an issue than ... well honestly just all of Vanilla. It is a very different story to the rest of the game, and feels weird looking back.

I didn't REALLY enjoy FF14 till Stormblood.

I didn't start until 5.5 but looking at my MSQ experience, 2.x was a bit of a drag but overall I was neutral on it.

Heavensward, Shadowbringers and Endwalker were all top tier MSQ experiences.

Stormblood not as much because of the dual narratives at the start but those do pay off in the end.

6.1 to 6.5 is decent but that's also setup for future expansions so it was certainly filler between 6.0 and 7.0.

same story as qp. people don't do anything to pressure opponent. when im there im pushing them back and wittling them down until i get a couple frags and the other ones get healed. team doesn't finish up my dmg output w/ frags. when i get to a battle, the enemy is just stomping the tema. the payload makes massive movements when im dead, but when im alive it isn't moving
