Stalker 2 I'm enjoying, I just need to get a better PC at this point

The current mission in S2 made me ragequit, the performance tanked by like 60FPS and it's a slideshow

I wish it wasn't so damn hard to run

I have modded it to living hell with performance and all kinds of mods, and it's really really good

Just on my rig it runs good for about 20 mins or until you explore too much and then the performance permanently becomes a slideshow until you restart the game

I think it's tied to VRAM exhaustion but idk, it's like the game is not properly collecting garbage

I established that the main thing to do is carve out a safe spot, build some rooms, research AC cooling and make a freezer for permanent food storage

I used to mod dwarf fortress to make every animal trainable for war (including wild lawnmowers), and I individually once raised an army of ca. 300 war ducks. sadly they all got slaughtered during their first mission, the combat log was spammed with thousands of lines to the effect of "the war duck hits the goblin lasher in the torso with his wing, but the attack is deflected!"

If you want story, there's better things to play like Radiophobia, True Stalker, Lost Alpha (somewhat), its better version which is Oblivion Lost Remake 3.0 (highly recommended), for insanity you should try OP 2.2 (also known as Stalker Soup) which is fukin bonkers

There's Call of The Zone, Vector of Alienation, OGSR.. plenty of things for Stalker that are incredible

Story wise, Anomaly has no story, it's all gameplay, walking around, fighting mutants and stalkers and doing odd dynamic fetch or kill quests

If you want story, play Radiophobia, OLR 3.0 or True Stalker

If you want gameplay, you can't go wrong with GAMMA

If you want to laugh your fucking ass off in insanity, misery and dumb game design, play OP 2.2

OP 2.2 thinks it's really funny to give you near unwinnable "boss" fights that spam the game with shit tons of spawns that nearly crashes the engine, and also it thinks it's hilarious to make player contract an illness that kills the player after like 10 minutes unless they buy an insanely expensive medicine which is near unavailable at the start of the game. It's literally just drunk game design, nah scratch that, it's just drunk, period.

I actually like establishing bases and building them. Very fun on survival yeah. Especially when modded.

Without survival bases don't really do anything. But on survival they become safe houses. So very useful

Do you use mods to make the cores last longer?

A gameplay altering mod I use is the longer days one. I think in vanilla a day is 12 minutes while night is 10. I make it so that a day is around an hour and a night slightly less.

This gives you more reason to consider sleeping through the night or not. I use the darker nights mod so that nights are very dark and hard to see. It also makes it harder for enemies to spot you when it's dark which can give you bigger reason to explore at night if you're stealthy.

the book Storm of Steel is a fascinating first-hand account, and it doesn't take you for an idiot, it's not an anti-war book, it just describes what happened. and the author was one of those slightly crazy guys who enjoyed the war. highly recommend it if you're into it

Gotta put up an actual wall with defenses - and it's become a big base with not a lot of water or cliffs to help me block it all off.
