Like Blizzard isn't some indie studio, and they made huge bank on OW and OW2. So when they promise a campaign mode they should deliver it. The only reason they didn't bother isn't because they didn't have the resources, but because they realized that they had already generated the hype with a campaign announcement and could backtrack with hopefully little in the way of repercussions. That what was meant to be a massive campaign mode giving life to the universe they had created the background for could instead be cut up into bite sized pieces and sold in overpriced seasonal packs rather then as proper expansion to the game.

Going away from the lootbox mechanic had to happen at some point (legal and financial reasons) and the whole monetisation is just the industry standard now (which of course is a downgrade but ow1 was just kinda too nice when you can get everything for free forever), the depth of pve is kinda unfortunate but nothing you can just change now through these reviews (it also seems like its a very loud minority bc the average ow player doesn't really care about that part), the pvp changes seem to get mostly positive feedback

and saying tank is unplayable is just funny

the loot boxes in ow1 were fine the way they were implemented
ow2 completely destroyed any person being able to play f2p and being able to get skins for free without spending a absurd amount of time to get them

Lootboxes were getting banned, so they redid Overwatch to be able to sell content that wasn't cosmetics again.

That was the crux of the issue - them promising never to charge for content.

you can get old and the heroes normal skins for free pretty easily

last time I played ow2 the only way to get the New currency was to do achievements
