this way my macbook trackpad has a useable cursor speed without needing to change windows settings
rdp sucked, anydesk sucked, teamviewer sucked, steam didnt even try and moonlight just worked

Only if the studio can make it to the finish line. If they run out of runway at 80% done, what are their options? Sell at a discount into early access to try and squeeze out the other 20% might be the only option left

But in all cases that scourge of early access has conditioned consumers to accept the launch of buggy, broken, and empty games. AAA studios noticed that, and realized that they can churn out titles without a care in the world to the amount of content or polish involved. Then keep what sticks and drop the rest. Or just keep churning and let them all burn...
Making the games more expensive doesn't help any of this per se, I'm just ranting against early access 😂

While that's true, in the example of the Civ series, Civ V and even more so Civ VI were made demonstrably worse by their inclusion in design and construction for mobile gaming. How much fat could have been trimmed by not making a "business savvy" decision and hiring all that help to execute on it?

Sure it couldn't work for all of them, but the point is that these studios should focus on their core purpose and their core competency: making a fun game. That's been lost across the industry for the last five plus years

4 was so many years of my life - Total conversion mods like Dune Wars fueling so many additional hours.
5 was... Never got into it - the one unit per tile approach felt like a sliding puzzle more than a game. And Civ VI's tile based city districts downright annoy me. You have to use a ruler and so much meta knowledge to build something that feels efficient.
And city sieges are just... not fun. You risk losing more troops to a city's static defense than actual units. Imagine the civ 1 roots where an undefended city is just taken.
