I got a mutt of a machine that works for my 98SE/DOS. but I don't have a running DOS machine yet. The one I want to run fully with for my DOS stuff has issues with wanting to boot up DOS. The other is an IBM 486 PS/2. And the other is an IBM PS/2 486 ....uuuhh... x sumthin? it's the bigger beefier workstation one. Doesn't work though, wished that it did.

Why would you worry about load order
Depending on the game and how the dev handle loading in mods : some games require specific ordering and 'layering' of mods. Even in minecraft, blocks have IDs and certain properties and functions and blocks aren't suppose to share those IDs so it creates mod conflicts if you try to integrate both or ham fist them in. Same with with, say, two mods altering the same object.
Or if its a compatibility mod patch or extension of a mod. You want to load the base-mod first and then the mod the depends on the required mod second or at some point afterwards. Or if you want mods that do conflict but can safely co-exist by over-lapping the properties of another in a specific way based on when they are loaded.... if the game allows for the conflicts ( bethesda games )

I mean valve has a "problem" that they make so much money from store they don't need to make games.
The games that people want the devs at valve don't want to do because they won't live up to the hype so it's not worth the risk.
Unless valve changed its management structure always meant this was a problem, no one was "forced" to pick up a project and finish it as everyone is pretty much the same level and could pick and choose so why would you pick a project like HL3 that is pretty much impossible to match any possible expectations that people have for it.
I would like them to do a much more expanded HL VR as I thought alyx was a good attempt but very safe and didn't really push any boundaries or use radical VR implementations.

I don't think valve has really pushed the hardware side that much to be fair.
Expensive and at the time the CV1, Vive and Rift S weren't holding back interactions for VR or what can be done on the medium.
The only good thing they did was the lighthouse but the did that previously with the Vive, it being so expensive didnt help adoption and Oculus managed to make their inside out tech hide most of the flaws and does a very satisfactory job now that I was happy moving back from the index.

No they pushed the fuck out of the hardware. They co-developed the Vive with Samsung, as they were interested in AR and VR too at the time, and heavily got the VR market swinging and mainstreamed. After that I don't know if which company focused more on the Vive Pro but the Index was all them IIRC. They've consistently been improving the VR scene on their end and they already have at least 3 patents for new ones.

It's fine they stayed with the high end as Oculus covered the entire issue by focusing on cost of entry with frankly incredible inside out tracking that is close to valves fixed setup which is really expensive.

I think valve finally caught up software wise but for years Oculus led the way with ASW and ATW which significantly reduced GPU needs which again vastly reduced the cost of entry.

Something like 70% of Halo Infinite's campaign wasn't actually finished. This content would've included additional biomes. A little astonishing considering that the game was already fairly long, but I think if it had that remaining content it would've elevated it from a good campaign to a fantastic one. Could've made up for the disappointment that was multiplayer.
I think backporting Infinite to the older Xbox One was the mistake, although I understand it has the larger playerbase it's also held the game back in a big way, and made development a living hell.

The base game should stand tall on its own really (I know it doesn't always), it makes perfect business sense to have dlc seperate for the most part as MS would have to pay even more to cover their "losses" due to rental service.
I wouldnt blame Microsoft for that side really, they want everyone to play as many games as possible, a lot of DLC comes out after the agreement to be on gamepass as most games are now day one.
I guess in the end it's possible, sure. Just seems more a publisher/Dev issue for shipping a game that is bad without required dlc.

It makes no sense to have all the DLC included as it would be incredibly expensive as a pass.
The whole point is to make it so you can play any base game on the pass so the more games the better as choice improves.
It wouldn't be financially viable to cover all of it both for the publisher and Microsoft.
It's up to you as an end user to decide if the value proposition is good or not.
Most games are excellent without needed DLC and plenty don't even have DLC.

In completely unrelated news - I don't think I've ever skipped as many cutscens in a Ubisoft game as Far Cry 6. They're just so... slow and unimportant. They go nowhere.
I'm like three quarters through the game and I still don't know a thing about the main antagonist or his son, cause every cutscene with him feels like they're dragging out for time constantly.

3 had piss poor pacing. Vaas is such a powerful antagonist... who when you face him is replaced with a boring "main baddie" and another third? of the game left.
FC5 sucked on so many levels and its expansion wasn't much better.

Also - FC6 aiming is somehow both simultaneously super satisfying because headshots means one shot kills. But on the other hand weapons, accessories (fucking scopes man) and laser targets just make your aim feel like you're drunk.
And the driving - God - fucking - damnit how did they manage to somehow make flying and driving WORSE than previous titles.
The game expects you to pan with the mouse, but it has a weird deadzone and a SUPER hyperactive 1-100 reaction after that. And if you want up to be down in planes like... any other game, then the mouse does the same with no option here.
Flying a plane is genuinely painful as a result. You also can't look out of cockpits, so you can't see where you're landing half the time. Moving your mouse around turns vehicles, and there's no toggle for it.
Goes into a locked room and continues to rant for another hour or two about FC6

honestly i did not play it for a long time, but the world was so empty aside from the main quest. just compare to gta 5. then the ai/police was really really stupid

Police is getting a rework in patches. An empty world will never be "fixed" cause that's just not done in any game.
I completed the game on day 1. All of the serious bugs I've seen since are all gone by now.
