I'm going to have mostly the BOW for alphas and the WOB for the rest on the Wooting 80HE white case.

And then use the inverse of that for replacements on this Osmium.

Both keyboards get a custom colorway, no waste. But I only just now thought of the planet.

"That said, the question is: do we really need a 1000Hz monitor? The simple answer is NO. 1000Hz is just too high to be perceptible to the human eye. There are debates about whether refresh rates higher than 240Hz or 360Hz are even beneficial at all, but for most, these aren't. A 1000Hz display is therefore pointless, but that's not the only concern, since reaching 1000 FPS is the most challenging task."

This past weekend I played Detroit: Become Human.
When I started the game up, it defaulted to capping the FPS at 30. I was like "oh hell nah" and maxed it out to being capped at 60fps.
This is far less than my computer could run it, but did that matter? No. I enjoyed the game tremendously, and after leaving the settings menu, never once thought about refresh rate.

quasi field
#

Most people clearly do not understand what the visual difference is between high and very high refresh rates which is why they simplify it all to being «smoother» even though the point at which the image stops updating in a stuttery manner to our eyes is at around 100 Hz or so on oleds

We might not "see above 30 fps" but we are very sensitive to frame pacing, and jittery frames where things display between 45 fps and 120fps, for example, will still throw us off heavily.

garage door entry is also a thing

folks that gap them in the hot months are vulnerable and shouldn't do that

around here, we had folks with small children (like 4 or 5) who would send their small children to squeeze under gapped garage doors and then hit the door opener in the garage, then mom and dad would drive a van into the garage, close the door, loot the electronics and jewelry in the house, load the van, open the garage again, and drive off with the munchkin kid.

You’d be better off with Beyerdynamic DT1990s v2 or Beyerdynamic 990 pro x or Beyerdynamic dt 900 pro x you won’t have to deal with any of the discomfort you get in your ears with IEMs having hard plastic in your ears they Beyerdynamic sound way better and have a wider sound stage and gives you a more immersive and realistic sound and you really feel like you’re in the game and they are very light and forget they are even on your head and can hear yourself when you’re talking so you’re not yelling really loudly compared to IEMs which isolate all outside sound.

frigid ivy
glossy shale
#

idk how to interpret that graph thingy

quasi field
#

Here's another headfone with lo-fi upper-mids/treble

#

Here's lo-fi versus hi-fi. Notice how the green line is far smooth with less sharp holes or peaks from 2k to 6k on the horizontal line? That's what you always want. It's more important than adherence to a target imo because bad peaks and dips can often not be fixed with EQ like the Sony has, while a smooth fr that adheres or not to anything can easily be shaped however you want. You can mostly ignore that they look «bad» at even higher frequencies like this, that's just what happens to very high frequency audio passing through ear canals

#

That lo-fi headphone is currently $1899 currently btw. So it is definitely high-end. I find it striking and comfortable but ultimately not good sounding and the horrible resonance (the sharp peak) it has at just above 3k is unfixable

#

So keep in mind that high-end does not make something hi-fi. HD560S is a much better headphone

It was both disappointing to me and not. I knew of the measurements when I bought mine years ago and so buying it was stupid of me. But that was the last bad headphone I ever bought so I guess it was a necessary step into enlightenment

They are mostly very well controlled with a great tonality everywhere (except for the bass imo)

lunar niche

lunar niche
#

Absolutely clamps the shit outta my ears, don’t know how anybody can wear them for more than 30m at a time

#

But they sound very fun

#

Maybe one of the best parts of the z1r too- so light and comfy

#

One pair I liked fairly well but just missed for me was the Focal Clear. they’re so heavy 😩

Almost makes me want to tear them apart and try to rehouse the drivers

quasi field
#

I think it's a high-end headphone that gets looks, comfort and build all correct which is rare imo

quasi field
lunar niche
#

Huh I never hit distortion issues on them

quasi field
#

I have to EQ the bass. And so it's easy to have peaks into 100 something dB which makes the driver bottom out and make that awful noise

lunar niche
#

That would turn me off too, just didn’t experience it

quasi field
#

Focal drivers clipping is a very common complaint about them

quasi field
#

For bass I prefer around 2 dB above Harman

#

Bass has the highest energy in music usually, well above what we listen to in the more sensitive higher frequencies. And short peaks in audio can be around 20 dB above average at most I think

#

So reaching 110 dB+ does happen, and is why distortion measurements need to go high

lunar niche
#

I'm basic and if I do EQ it's probably getting closer to Harman and not much past if any. I mainly do it for the truly anemic pairs that I love so much like the 600 and 800s.

quasi field
#

The way I'm listening right now as I type this would have a Focal clipping

#

But I agree they are quite heavy

lunar niche
#

I may have to bring them outta the closet and see if I can reproduce this horrible sounding occurence

Yeah, just in hardware

#

That is a good test track 😆 have the low end EQ'ed way too high and it's not clipping for me (but is making my vision get wobbly)

#

or rather, not bottoming out the driver

#

maybe I just got lucky?

#

It's Focal Elear I think people complain about it the most, but that is simultaneously a much cheaper headphone and so more will have it

#

I've never used Clear, but I have used Clear MG

#

I mean, I have to imagine they're in the same ball park

#

phew I think I took a year off my good hearing years doing that

quasi field
#

Maybe it's partially down to unit variation

#

I have experienced clipping at «comfortably loud» volumes

lunar niche
#

That's what I meant by my maybe being lucky

#

Who knows. Either way, I think they're solid but just a bit too heavy. Had some issues with a peak around IIRC 3khz or so, but that can be EQ'd out without too much trouble

#

Mostly the weight that makes me put them away

#

I think my ideal would be to get the form factor of the HD600 and drivers closer to the 800S. Then I'd never have to think about this again.

#

They are shaped a bit like consumer style headphones, Sony XM etc. but much larger and heavier and I don't feel like that works well

#

For heavier headphones I at least want bigger contact area like Audezes

#

And a better strap design

lunar niche
#

Still never got a chance to try Audezes

#

nor Meze for that matter

#

Didn't realize Aud's were heavy

See I think the polarizing opinions kept me away

Well, that and the drivers right 🙂

I had the LCD-XC (closed version of X) and it weighs 677 gram

lunar niche
#

Holy F - had to check and Focal Clears are 450g

#

That's insane

quasi field
#

The pads are nice and plush but at that weight it doesn't even matter much anymore because it still hurts your neck

lunar niche
#

HD600: 260g
Perfection 🤩

quasi field
#

No matter how it fits your head it will strain your neck

#

Comfort is so so important to me in a headphone

#

Over 350 grams and I start looking at alternatives

My friend I wish you were around to discuss this stuff 10y ago, would have made better decisions I am sure.

10 years ago the choices were a lot more limited we have a lot more options nowadays

and yet the pair on my head I bought used 15y ago 🙂

I was not an audiophile 10 years ago. I was just 15

#

I got my first serious headphone in 2018

Phew, you ran all the way to the top pretty quick

I was on that m50x hype train, into the dt 770 pros

I've heard good things about them!

Yeah, someone had said some kind words about them IIRC a few years ago when I last heard

quasi field
#

I think they are excellent. I did a lot of research before settling on them

#

The headphones I had before that were the Audeze Maxwell. I still have that but the Astros are better and more comfortable

I'd always heard they were fine in early gens, but nothing to think much of. May have to give them a 👀

Gen 4 has lots of bloat and very little treble

#

Gen 5 does not need very much EQ to sound perfect to me
