if you want a semi serious answer, is that the US has this advertising and mindset as to 'be healthy and drink water' way of life therefore always carrying water/drinks around -> making tumblrs as an acessory item/something that fits your personality (boost hydration but also easy money for the company right). Where here its like 'yeah ofc we drink water/hydrate?' but we dont need to have that advertised. so the majority of people just carry something around in their bag if they're on the go.
