Struggling to get a kill is there a TLDR for this. I know nothing about PVM. my pray range doesn't seem to block against the crossbow is that a different damage type?

Protection prayers work differently in PvP, they block a portion of the damage, not all of it
Mainly you are playing a fast paced rock paper scissors, for a beginner you dont have to worry about fancy movement tricks or anything, just swap your styles so that they arent praying against what you are using, and swap your prayer to what they are using

Whip is your main weapon, and ddagger is for speccing, you use it to KO someone when they are low

Basic idea is to swap prayer against the style they're using to reduce incoming damage by 40%. Try to attack with a style they're not praying against.
Pvp is difficult to get into, you can also get your rune pouch through the mage training arena

Adding on to this, you can also just use venge and bolt people mainly with some melee added in, youll outlast a lot of the not so good players trying to use ancients this way and then you can hide after the initial kill and get like 2-4 points a game if you can just get a kill, hide until top 4 or so.
Much easier for a new player to just venge on CD and stay in tanky gear, you'd be surprised how many people you will outlast doing this
Should give you a pretty consistent stream of points for the rune pouch if thats what youre after
