#When to fit in sailing?

Howdy, I get that this is such an incredibly vagu quesiton but wondering if anybody else had planned this out. Following BRUHSailer at the minute but trying to figure out the best time to fit in Sailing. My main thing is essentially, how useful is a sailors ammy and deepfin point teleport early on? I feel like that's a really cracked teleport for easy bank + charter early game when teleports are lacking but, I'm not sure at what point it's worth going out of my way to get as 67 sailing might be a ballache to slam out without boat upgrades but, if anybody has opinions on how beneficial sailors ammy + deepfin is then, would love to hear it.

(Again I get this is such an open ended question, apologies, but i'm a pleb)

for having to level up an entire skill, just that one bit of convenience aint gonna be a time save or anything

#

sailing has some neat stuff, but its a time and resource investment

#

it feels more like "this is qol if you happen to have been leveling up sailing" than goals you would do sailing for

peak raft
#

Its good to keep in mind that hallowed teleport crystals are just better than deepfin point

#

para and I are talking about sailing, we're likely incorporating approximately 1-78 in BRUHsailer, starting around the middle of Ch2

#

I would not start sailing if your construction or smithing are below level 55 or so

#

and even then you'll probably want mid 60s to have a smooth early experience, along with ~1-2m in spare cash

plush mist
#

appreciate it guys, tyvm, would you say there's any benefit early on for the sawmill vouchers and getting them while they're more valuable relative to gp available early on or just really not worth the ballache?

Tyvm for the help, always played snowflakes and I'm finally just making a NORMAL iron and realising there's things are harder to plan when there' TOO many available options at once lol

pseudo socket
#

i dont think the vouchers have much value at all, no

umbral otter
#

I was thinking the optimal path might be to complete the pandemonium quest and start using tears of guthix 6 weeks before you plan to get the quest cape so you can get the early levels without training. You get 45 sailing after 7 tears of guthix with lumby hard diary done and 200 tears per run

plush mist
#

Cool, appreciate the input guys tyvm. Will b in off sialing for now ❤️

I started sailing during the barb fishing to 65 agi section. I got neitiznot helm, misc access, and finished lunar diplomacy. Kept doing slayer tasks to 51 while training strength. Already had 60 atk for dscim and dds at that point. Got to 51 sailing for calquat and hardwood patch but had to do big chompy and zogres early for innoculation station

peak raft
#

Also fwiw I think the vouchers have uses for the new expensive high tier planks, but I thought for mahogany and worse they're not good

umbral otter
#

at that point in the account it would be the slowest skill you have

peak raft
#

No

umbral otter
#

for those early levels

peak raft
#

Also no

#

Slayer, rc, agility and herblore are all considerably slower at those levels

umbral otter
#

yes but at that point in the account those skills would not be at such a low level

peak raft
#

people only like tears on sailing because they suck at the game and/or all their other skills are already 70+

#

it just doesnt make sense if you are low level and know what you're doing

umbral otter
#

6 weeks before quest cape you would have pretty high stats

peak raft
#

Listen, I think it's a bad idea, you're like person number 8 to bring it up. Go for it if you enjoy it, but there's no way it's going into the guide

junior arch
#

for people currently in ch 2/3 is it such a bad idea?

umbral otter
#

I mean quest cape would be pretty much at the end of bruhsailer and your slayer is 76, agility 98, herblore 83+

#

so using tears on 1-45 sailing seems good

#

and getting sailing levels earlier doesnt seem to have much of a benefit

#

So I really dont see how sailing wouldnt be your slowest skill at that point

peak raft
#

I think including some amount of sailing in Ch2 and Ch3 is good, I think the tears idea is stupid

umbral otter
#

whats the benefit of getting some sailing done earlier?

peak raft

New hardwood trees (farming)
New hardwood trees (afk wc, e.g. camphor 85k, rosewood 90k, ironwood 90k)
Decent crystal shards source
Sailor's Amulet (to charter/for getting to docks)
Super fishing potions (herb xp, fishing)
Super hunting potion (herb xp, bird runs)
Deep sea trawling (halibut/marlin? - see https://old.reddit.com/r/ironscape/comments/1p3f4p4/sailing_deep_sea_trawling_good_for_fishbad_for_xp/ and https://old.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/1pvhgoi/deep_sea_trawling_xp_and_fish_rates/)
extended stams (blast furnace)
Tear of Soul(?) hop forestry method (magic tree, potentially rosewood is better because of depletion timer)
Blue dragon scale shop (Deepfin mine)```

In addition, the quests have unlocks (lumby elite as well before the slayer grind) and it lets tears go to slower skills
#

These are the low level rewards, there's a second list of benefits for post-75 sailing or so

#

I also expect the benefits to increase going forward, sailing will be expanded a bunch in 2026

umbral otter
#

I guess my plan wouldnt be at the end of bruhsailer necessary but 6 weeks before lumby elite

distant aspen
#

I made an extra 750 or so battlestaffs to high alch during port task that funded the sailing costs

peak raft
#

Yeah I think early/mid Ch2 is a good idea for starting with sailing

#

making a planning around tears of guthix is lousy, just ignore that and you'll be fine

umbral otter
#

I guess if you think the benefits of getting those perks during ch2 instead of before lumby elite is worth the 6 hours (with EHP rates) you lose by training 1-55 sailing conventionally instead of tears of guthix then thats a good plan

peak raft
#

as I said before, you should compare tears on sailing to tears on something else

umbral otter
#

I guess its not taking into account the slayer xp you are losing, idk what the xp rate at 69 is

peak raft
#

LOWER THAN SAILING

#

thats the point

umbral otter
#

Is it less than 35k?

peak raft
#

sailing isnt 35k

umbral otter
#

50-55 its 35k using ehp rates

peak raft
#

I don't know why I keep falling for noob bait like this, I'm going to call it quits here. Good luck figuring it out

umbral otter
#

Im talking about tears of guthixing from 1-55, the xp rates are 10k 1-30, 25k 30-50, 35k 50-55

#

idk why you are comparing the xp rates for 69 sailing to 69 slayer since in this case you would have 69 slayer and 1 sailing

#

I think you are misunderstanding what my plan is here

#

You would be losing 84k slayer XP, idk how much that is in hours training it at level 69

#

And I think the total time trained from 1-55 sailing must be higher than 6.7 hours for an ironman

peak raft
umbral otter
#

Based on my understanding if you have level 4 sailing and level 69 slayer and you decide to use your tears of guthix on sailing for the next 14 weeks you will have 163k sailing which is 3k short of 55. If you instead decide to use them on slayer you would gain 189k slayer xp.

If you were to only go to 46 sailing you would use 7 tears of guthix weeks to get that and you would have gained 94.5k slayer xp if you used it on that instead. What am I missing here?

(This is assuming you have lumby hard diary done and get 200 tears per run so 13,5k xp per run after level 30.)

twilit wraith
#

Your maths isn’t too far out, I got it at 147k xp after 14 weeks. Maybe you missed the round down function in the initial [current xp/27]. Also 200 tears with lumby hard is 13.2k, so maybe that added up too.

#

I guess that’s why they disabled tears on launch cause it OP early on

#

Unless I’m missing something as well, you’d jump from level 4 to 15 in week 1 of tears?! Same assumptions. Lumby hard, 200 tears.

#

160k xp if you throw the quest rewards in too

umbral otter
#

Oh yeah, I didnt round it down before applying the 1.1 multiplier and its 13.2k not 13.5k. I got 160k after redoing the calculation for 14 weeks and for 7 weeks it gets you 45 sailing and 67,8k xp not 46 sailing. But besides that minor calculation error I dont see what I'm missing here.

granite wyvern
#

Don’t think he’ll ever tell you eitherkekw

junior arch
#

i feel like you're arguing different things

#

bruh is talking from the perspective of a fresh account, while you're talking about an account that's well into the guide already when sailing is introduced

#

if you're already high level RC/agi/herb/slayer, then yeah tog is better spent on skipping early sailing levels? but fitting it into the guide, it's better to level sailing yourself and use tog for those slower skills

umbral otter

twilit wraith
#

Once you unlock your first crewmate at 40 yeah, I guess port tasks and charting become multiskillable

wanton stratus
#

Idk about 50-55 but I got lvl 30 done on my main in like 2-3 hours

#

It was slow on day one because nobody knew what they were doing

#

It's really not that slow now

umbral otter
#

The EHP rates would suggest 1-30 is 1.33 hours so I dont get your point

lime herald
#

1-30 is 5 minutes at Tears of Guthix

umbral otter
#

Yes the time spent in guthix isnt the relevant bit but how much slayer xp you lose out on but even with EHP rates you are saving quite a bit of time by using tears on 1-55 sailing

wanton stratus
#

I think other skills are slower at low level is my point

lethal kite
umbral otter
wanton stratus
#

idk if that's worth planning around

#

it's like 10k xp a week

#

less below lvl 30

umbral otter
#

I wonder how long 1-55 sailing takes on an ironman with bruhsailer mid ch2 stats, you would be saving that much time minus you lose 185k slayer xp

#

Or maybe 1-50 or 1-45 is more practical

wanton stratus
#

that sounds complicated to calc

#

slayer is lamped to 58

#

surely you just do tog once a week when you unlock it and don't worry about what it goes into

umbral otter
#

Yes you would have 69 slayer at the point I was suggesting (before getting quest cape)

wanton stratus
#

I don't think I have ever checked what skill it goes to

twilit wraith
#

It goes into your lowest skill

torn cove
#

do you even want to skip early charting? probably want to do it all anyway and if you postpone it you are gonna be doing it at a time where you have access to better methods.

twilit wraith
#

I always kept agility lowest pre sailing to make sure the exp went there. My least favourite skill.

#

Charting is the same exp whenever. I left most of it until 78 and did it all in one go for a nice chunk of exp. You have access to faster boats by then too to get it done quicker.

torn cove
#

yeah but the opportunity cost would be higher no? since in early levels you would be doing low xp methods and higher you would be doing better ones

twilit wraith
#

Yes if you’re actively levelling the skill

#

Replies kind of went off an a tangent to using ToG, sorry OP 😂

wanton stratus
#

14k xp is like an 8min timesave in the slowest skill

lethal kite
#

considering we are minmaxing singular ticks other parts of the guide it would be appropriate to consider ToG which can save u almost an hour a week early on

#

+1ehp from tog + a few event lamps

twilit wraith
#

Yeah I guess so. I guess it’s just down to enjoyment really. Agility, slayer, smithing and rc were my last skills so I just made sure to keep agility lowest each week. 1 less sepulchre run. Now it’s 1 less Gwenith Glide 😂

wanton stratus
#

sure but trying to plan around it seems difficult

#

you can't account for how much people play in a week

twilit wraith
#

Probably be the last time I bother doing it tomorrow. Should be maxed again over the next couple of days 🥳

wanton stratus
#

oh, log off for the next 3 days to not overlevel your slayer

lethal kite
#

well it goes hand in hand with the fact that its recommended to not touch slayer until as late as possible in your account

twilit wraith
#

Yeah I was never over levelling agility so wasn’t an issue for me 😂

wanton stratus
#

sure

lethal kite
#

and i think having easy skills tank tog is largely a waste more than anything, ofc its not a huge deal if you put it in some other slow skill

wanton stratus
#

I don't think it makes sense to plan a guide around it

#

sure you can do it yourself if you want

lethal kite
#

well it already kinda does?

#

(end of chp1)

wanton stratus
#

well yeah it goes on slayer not sailing

#

if you have even done it at that point? I dont remember

#

it also gives less xp below lvl 30 keep that in mind

#

unlocking sailing there seems silly

lethal kite
#

well sailing isnt part of the guide yet and u could potentially ignore it by not completing the introduction quest, i guess thats the discussion above was about (when its "optimal" to unlock)

wanton stratus
#

yea as I said I don't think tears of guthix is worth considering for that question

#

as multiple skills are slower at low level

umbral otter
#

Lets say in the guide you say to unlock it and start using tears on sailing once you get 69 slayer, surely almost everyone will not get a quest cape 7 weeks from that point. And if they do perhaps add a note that you can train sailing manually if you happen to play 16 hours a day

torn cove
#

if you are following the guide and do ToG weekly, which iirc the guide doesnt say to, you should be getting RC the entire time until you do lavas, which in respect to the guide probably saves more time than sailing does

soft narwhal
#

hey @peak raft when will the sailing update to the guide be out? thinking of starting a new iron 🙂

peak raft

Sometime in February, most likely
