Howdy folks, Tony Paddle here,

I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on potential gear improvements. Any cc is greatly appreciated!

I haven't done any bossing aside from Barrows (but honestly not really a boss) but I'd love to have an excuse to learn some bosses if the loot is there. As for what my active goals have been recently:

Melee: Working on Barrows set for full tank armor. Chipping away at R4D for barrows gloves. Considering going for fire cape so I can finally be cool.

Mage: Working on reqs for desert treasure for ancient (although ibans staff has been kicking ass well enough up until this point). Might try going for the other equipable spell book pages but clue hunting makes me want to tear my hair out. Other than that not sure what to really improve.

Range: This one definitely needs the most work but all I've been rocking is the bone crossbow and god is it slow xp. Until recently I've been trying to grind out my fletching and WC to just make a magic bow but decided I might save some sanity by getting to 63 Slayer for the spiritual ranger drop instead. I've got GP making methods so I'm happy to do something a bit more expensive to train this up faster.

Everything shown in pics is best in slot (maybe minus the achievement cape which I wear all the time because it's so ridiculously useful)

Anyways, tear me apart while I wait for my favorite game to come back online. Thanks!

A lot of what you posted is generally in the realm of terrible to bad haha

#

Id have a look at the gear progression guide over in #ironman-discussion in the pins

melee: tank gear is nice some places but usually you wanna prioritize strength bonus as much as possible. fighter torso is big, also rfd like you said. climbing boots should be better than black, some other upgrades are mixed hide boots and cape. neitiznot helm is very good too
mage: definitely get dt done, yeah. mage's book from mage training arena is a good offhand, barrows gloves from rfd also useful here. eventually you'll wanna get bloodbark if you don't luck into ahrim's. also, do mage arena 1 and 2 (2 when you get 75 mage) for best in slot mage cape
range is just a disaster early game unfortunately, not really any way around it other than just catching and throwing chins

if you can afk at work i did early range afking at crabs with the gear you have now pretty much and after a couple of work days i got to a point where it wasn't so bad anymore

#

and if you enjoy hard clues, which i do, then that is how i got my black d'hide

#

and didn't lose any hunter levels because i still did my bird runs etc

#

and before anyone directs me to "better" things to do afk, i am aware. But afking crabs for 15 mins at a time is great for keeping up work, and also was a preference thing

If you're going to afk ranged (I wouldn't) a yew shortbow with rune arrows will be much more xp/h than a bone crossbow

# left quail Huh?

Afking crabs for 15 minutes with melee takes the same or less effort than afking crabs for 15 minutes with ranged

Okay so you spend all that time on making gp when you're missing the point that if you got time to spare at work, you can quite comfortably get 40-70 range in a week if that's your preference to do so

left quail
echo silo
#

Or you could spend that time getting 40-70 strength

#

We're talking about using afk time at work

left quail
#

And the point was that early game ranged is much more painful compared to melee, so if you're preference is to feel like you skip that part of ranged, then it's an option

#

At no point did I say x or y is efficient, in fact I tried to caveat that from the get go

echo silo
#

You have it backwards

#

Ranged is much faster than melee

#

But afking ranged gives you next to 0 xp

left quail
#

Do both then? Literally what I did

#

You don't stop work after one week lol

echo silo
#

Why not do just melee?

#

And you don't stop after 70 strength

left quail
#

Didn't feel like doing chins or making more battlestaves

#

Used that GP on Smith and con

echo silo
#

Chins are very much worth your active playtime

left quail
#

"didn't feel like"

echo silo
#

Did Tony mention "not feeling like" throwing chins?

left quail
#

Did I say he shouldn't or did I just share my experience with him that worked for me?

echo silo
#

In the English language, in the context of someone asking what he should do, responding with something to do is suggesting that he should do it, yes

left quail
#

And my sentences began with the word "if"

#

Which is not to be confused with "you should"

echo silo
#

Your sentences never mentioned chins

left quail
#

No, because bee already did? Lol

#

He already received that information

echo silo
#

Then I would recommend staying out of #1045772350878121994 and #ironman-discussion if you aren't going to answer the questions people ask

#

Yes, and after that you gave him misinformation

#

You don't afk crabs with ranged "if you have afk time," you'd only do that if you're not ever going to catch chins

#

And even then, you wouldn't use a bone crossbow over a yew shortbow

left quail
#

Not misinformation, the literal title is "progression suggestions", I shared my experience as a suggestion, caveated it that it's not optimal and there's better options. He's therefore equipped to use that as he wishes. Your advice is great, he's got that now too

#

OP doesn't exactly look like someone who is playing the game to 110% efficiency

#

And that's totally fine

echo silo
#

Any arrow above steel out DPS-es a bone crossbow at 50

#

Okay perfect, you've improved my suggestion even more. I just asked what your point was because the sentence wasn't clear to me, didn't require such patronising rebukes but whatevs

echo silo
#

Patronizing rebukes are often responded to with patronizing rebukes

At your stats id recommend focusing on skilling, especially farming. Generally doing lots of combat early is not a great idea. There are a lot of valuable upgrades to combat that come from skilling, while the converse is less true
