#Committing to Iron vs Main

Hey y'all, RS3 main here diving into OSRS. I've got two accounts going—both are early game with about 900 total levels each: a main and an ironman. My RS3 account satisfies the "main" gameplay experience, so I've been focusing on the iron in OSRS to mix things up.

I'm curious to hear from anyone who's been in a similar boat: How did you choose between your accounts? My dilemma is splitting my time without making significant progress on either. Progress on the ironman feels pretty slow; I spent about a year and a half on and off at Wintertodt and just finished up the blackjacking and MTA steps, lol. But I really like the idea of the different experience on old school and it feels rewarding already.

I'd like to explore what OSRS has to offer, especially the new quests and grinding all the PvM content. Any advice on managing two accounts or on choosing one to focus on?

I've never had a main so it was easy to choose kekw

If u think u will have more fun exploring all content then stick with iron if u don't want to do chores or level up skills and just pvm stick with main

Yeah I also never had a main and was always interested in iron
Mostly since I played in a very similar way to 2015 ironman back in RS2 anyway
I think there's never been an easier time to get adjusted to ironman in OSRS
So definitely give it a shot! Skilling is in a good place and PVM is very rewarding with lots of options

When I was still into playing a main and my iron I would often try to do afk grinds on one or the other while doing more focused content on the other one. Eventually the iron just became a lot more fulfilling/fun, so I stopped playing the main.

imo the flaws with a main is easily getting stuck doing 1 type of pvm to buy all other sections of the game like skilling and gear and getting rly bored when you have all the gear

#

and the main flaws of iron are a huge delay before getting to do any pvm, you're doing a ton of chores and you can never be quite as useful as a main in end game pvm

#

if you spent a year on wintertodt then i wouldnt expect any real pvm for several more years

#

as an ironman

also having to grind certain content that u may or may not like because u cant buy it

#

but i think the trade off is worth it

ah ye you might get stuck doing 1500 cg for a year and you might never own a tbow

This is an iron discord, so you will have a bias towards irons. That said, iron osrs can be very daunting if you get stuck on a particular grind that is borderline requires to then progress your account elsewhere. Like Elyas5 points out with CG.

#

If you like the feeling of self-sufficiency and the progression of unlocks that are very inherent to iron playstyles, go for it. But if you want to be able to hop around to different pvm activities in the lategame and not be bottlenecked by any particular item or 2? Maybe consider a main.

tbf even for irons u can easily get locked into content

#

like nex

#

but when ur free and have all the important items u can do whatever u want lol

#

and before that u get to do a wide variety of content

#

even if a lot of it is forced on you at least its variety

Granted, unless you are chasing a moving target like 3a pick or axe, the same can be said about Mains too. Once you buy your main bis, you hop around doing w/e completionist crap you want I guess.

#

But as long as you have some important stuff to buy, you do generally feel pressured to do w/e is the highest gp/hr for you, which I've never much enjoyed.

#

Admittedly that is a personal mental issue and you can just say screw it and still do w/e content you want as a main and not care.

You all skim over the most important reason to ply iron

#

FOR THE FLEX 💪🏽

i think most irons are considered more like the handicapped cousin ppl are nice to rather than something u can flex with lol

that's the uims ur describing

sudden tangle

ppl dont even bother being nice to the uims lol

#

i dont think anyone likes raiding with those ppl

Nah iron is def a flex, but it must be subtle with a screenshot with the helmet showing and no mention of the status. That’s why the Ironman btw memes came to be. Think about how much people enjoy green logs on main, that’s basically just iron man mode

I have a maxed main with all bis gear (minus some niche items) that I played until like a year ago. At that point I was hunting pets for the most part, but it got a bit boring and didn't feel as rewarding because it lacked meaningful progression. Iron let's me enjoy progression again and skilling feels more satisfying since it's more interconnected. That being said, progression is overall noticeably slower and pvming effectively requires a lot of skilling beforehand.

#

And if you are interested in stuff like speedrunning I'd recommend a main

i quit my main after GIM came out

#

i enjoy the slow grind more on the iron

#

but also, personally i take solace in the fact that once i get something for myself i never need to sell it back

#

ofc the trade off is that i have to grind several dozens/hundreds of hours to get some items

Thanks for the insight y'all 🙂 The rewarding nature definitely appeals to me. Do you guys find that you'd get to engage in more content than a collection log hunting (or comp on rs3) main? The early game iron experience so far feels pretty "solved" and I'm wary of that long delay with skilling grinds before getting into more interesting content, but I guess part of the appeal of iron is finding those grinds interesting haha

#

I'll probably end up continuing to flip flop between the two and eventually get to some pvm in another few years 😭

My mindset is losing hours being inefficient doesn’t matter unless you’re into being efficient lol
