I don't like time limited activities, they give me FOMO and I want to avoid them entirely. Are there any alternative ways to gain the resources I would miss out on? I know I can do Tithe farm instead of tree runs for farming xp, but will I miss out on a lot of hespori seeds then? Also, can I just do slayer instead of farming contracts for seeds? I'm fine with it gimping me a bit, as long as the progression is still bearable.
#Alternatives to time limited activities? (farming contracts, birdhouses, tree runs)

Progression will feel fairly unbearable. I mean. It's doable, for sure, but trying to make good time with hunter/farming/herblore without doing any hourlies sounds like CBT to me
Then again though if doing those (or missing those) is worse for you then you may have a better time just avoiding them and accept that your progression in those skills will slow to a crawl, comparitively.
ye sorry but you prob have to be a main to dodge those activities
the next best options are dogshit
Okay thanks! I'll figure out what to do then. I do have 80 hunter already, so that is a bit out of the way, and I have accepted I'll prolly have to do herb runs no matter what I do. But other than that I'll see how long I can avoid hourlies
i mean if u find bird runs and herb runs unbearable then u dont need to do them 24/7 all the time, but the more u do them the more u will progress ur account
if u spend a lot of time online consider doing like 1 bird/herb run when u log in and one more before u go to bed or smth
if u force urself to grind them every hour i think its annoying but starting/finishing with one run wasn't so bad for me
another tip is when ur doing ur herb runs, dont bother with allotment patches
it doubles the time to complete ur run and u REALLY will not need all those watermelons anyways
Only allotment I farm is 1 snape grass in catherby
not sure if that's smart or not but it feels ok
according to what i see on the wiki, its just the herb patch that gets 15% bonus
i do my snape in hosidius
more for proximity to leprechaun but yeah it is just the herb afaik
Ya I leave a white lily in the flower patch in cath in the end I don't think it makes a real difference though
to be entirely honest LMFAO
Yeah I've been doing this for a bit as well, but nice to hear that it is doable without doing it every hour on the dot
it will slow u down in the long run but thats fine if it saves u from burning out and hating the game
i still got 99 herb and stuff without forcing myself to do herb runs all day
it just took me longer
Easiest way to think about it imo is... Sure you're missing it this hour, so in terms of "real life" hours played it's slower
But in terms of ehp or in game hours it's the same if you do it twice or 10 times a day
your enjoyment of the game is more valuable than the 10k herb xp from doing ur herb run
mhm! Find the balance that works for you
Thanks, that's very encouraging!
Honestly what I'm most concerned about now is the seeds from farming contracts, but can I make up for them just by grinding slayer mobs?
Another thing that helps a lot if you're not already doing it is preplanting for contracts.
Turns it from an hourly activity into one you can do 5x in a row every once in a while
Ignoring contracts isn't impossible, irons from the olden days didn't even have them
But they're borderline insane so they're worth finding a cadence for that suits you
insane as in the rewards are insane?
Damn, welp
I'd think of it less as something you must do right as it's finished vs something you can tack on to the end/start of your herb run
And then slam out as many preplants in a row as you can and carry on
is it worth starting them before 65 farming?
Not particularly. Boosting from 62 is worth
and then boosting from 82 is exceptionally worth, hard contracts go crazy.
I didn't boost from 62 though on my main iron (lack of knowledge) and don't plan to on my gim (lazy)
boosted for hards on main though and will on GIM as well.
Okies, I'm only at 54 so at least that can wait a bit
Hardwoods every few days and fruit trees once a day will get you to 65 faster than you know it, no worries.
If you must choose to do only 1 type of tree though probably pick hardwoods
very low effort for very high return
(just slower in IRL time)
Yeah only problem is getting the seeds if I don't do that many birdhouse runs
You'll get em over time. I wouldn't stress about it.
Thanks man
personally i tried doing some med contracts on my second iron and post-nerf they seem pretty bad ima be honest
when im ready to play actively again on that account ima tithe to 85 and take it from there
the difference is honestly huge
but yeah its totally okay to just do ur bird runs and slowly get the seeds for tree runs over time
as long as ur working towards the lvl ur fine
dont beat urself up too much about missing the med contracts
Ooo that sounds really good then
I'm not seeing myself getting 85 farming anytime soon, so I'll just see how I feel about it when i get there
hards provide the dopamine honestly.
absolutely
i do think med contracts do give some tree seeds sometimes though
so it might help u get the lvl a bit faster if u do a few here and there
i just wouldnt stress about doing them religiously
That's awesome, that's exactly what I needed to hear
Some time limited/hourlies are VERY important, whereas some are less so.
Kingdom in general and its upkeep isn't that huge, seaweed is important but you dont' have to do it constantly, bird house runs you want to do quite a lot, and tbh, NOT doing herb runs is going to mess you up quite hard
You can do them as and when you need to, but you'll find that you'll be running out of potions a lot and have to grow more herbs, but you don't have any seeds, so now you have to do slayer in hopes that a mob drops seeds, but you don't have prayer potions, repeat forever
