#How can I improve my CG runs?

Check out this video "Perfect Corrupted Hunlef | Cat vs Jad Ironman " https://www.twitch.tv/cat_vs_jad/v/1799358849?sr=a&t=0s

Please note I sincerely apologise for the swearing right at the start of the video kekw

Apart from the obvious mistakes I make during prep, and the fact I was doing t2 instead of t1, is there anything I'm missing?

I'm particularly looking for advice in hunlef because I can do t1 most of the time but I only do it when I'm mentally very alert otherwise I do t2. If I were to get my hunlef down even better though, then one could simply not do t2 as it would become even more mindless

cat_vs_jad went live on Twitch. Catch up on their Old School RuneScape VOD now.

I'm ngl, watching that back I'm shook that I completed the CA because I was not actually trying to tick perfect those corners during nados and just got lucky with them, that or I'm really used to it and did it naturally idk

#

Also, I'll be honest and say some kills I just fumble hard and need the full 20 food, likely because of fatigue as it tends to be either my first couple for the day, or after like 5 hours of cg so this isn't the best example of all my runs

tepid moon
#

00:59 prescouting is really helpful
01:10 I would probably have ignored that scorpion
02:20 dropping a lot of supplies is a bad habit, you can improve on t2 runs (and wont need to do this at all for t1 runs) by planning around this. You can also make some armour here already.
02:42 lucky break, finding a dragon after making a staff
06:30 going back out here should really not be necessary 😦

%----% the fight:
07:55 eat here
08:05 we're under 66 why aren't we eating
10:00 a nice overview, hunllef is at 393/1000 and you have 15 food left hile being at 79 hp
10:32 this run lost some dps. Generally the kill is going very well and you're doing great. If you have the time to react to this, you can head straight west (bottom of the screen direction) after running to the safe 'inner square' area, getting gap on the tornados and getting shots in earlier.
10:56 I'd eat here, 65 is the best HP to eat at. You ate a few seconds later (same diff really)
Nice kill, 11 fish left πŸ˜‰

#

I tried to focus on the fight but you did all of that really really well, there isnt too much to say there

#

if anything id focus on prep, you lost around 2-3 minutes there

pastel sapphire
#

Ok, is there any algorithm to lava?

#

If I knew the rotation it would help massively

tepid moon
#

no, afaik its random

#

I just react to the changing floor

#

you can predict the timing of the change but not the new pattern

#

I try to be as close to the centre as possible when the floor changes, that gives most flexibility for running. But in this example that wasnt possible

pastel sapphire
#

As I was saying above, most of my kills don't look this good at all, given today was the first time I got the perfect run but I am feeling a lot more comfy in my kills now. One mistake I make a lot with nados is getting tripple stacked because I miscalculate when to walk through them

tepid moon
#

I would not walk through them at all, if possible

pastel sapphire
#

My t1 is very rng

tepid moon
#

I think thats a flex strat that looks cool but is very high risk low reward

pastel sapphire
#

Yeh, it's rare but happens that I need to

tepid moon
#

it really shouldnt

pastel sapphire
#

True

#

You're right, bad tile reading

#

Thats why I wish I could understand the room better

#

How does one handle a centre hunlef?

#

I just try and push to corners and make use of the extra food I'm always bringing if he tramples

tepid moon
#

I just shrug and move around him

#

I think trying to push or wait out a good position for hunllef is bad

pastel sapphire
#

I'd like to be in a spot where I'm doing t1 with full food, or at the very least t2 without getting more than 16 food but I'm finding a lot that I end out running out/very close to every 1/5 kills or so

tepid moon
#

or at least not worth catering to

#

in the vid your uptime was great and you didn't take any unnecessary damage

#

if you can get that more regularly you can easily handle t1

pastel sapphire
#

Maybe I should showcase my bad kills for more context

tepid moon
#

in fact id move over asap

#

im not sure if thats very useful(?)

#

if you know what went wrong theres not much point to me repeating it

pastel sapphire
#

Yeh I did a couple today but its very dependant on my fatigue levels at the moment

tepid moon
#

the only big improvements I saw were during prep

pastel sapphire
#

I think what I'm saying is the mechanics, I know, but my brain works on auto pilot

#

How to train it to function all the time, not just for 1 of the 8 hours

#

Because for the other 7 hours I fumble and make unnecessary mistakes and so on

#

Which is why I'm t2

#

Or am I being too hard on my self here given that I'm now doing kills like this

#

So like I should disregard previous mistakes in favour of acknowledging that I'm now doing it correctly

#

Idk

tepid moon
#

fwiw I struggled to do more than 5-10 cg a day, its just very intense content

#

some of the most intense content in osrs, in fact. Once you can handle cg you are good to go for a LOT of future stuff

pastel sapphire
#

Yeh it is and even in that 8 hours I'm probably only doing 1-3 an hour

#

Which is really bad

tepid moon
#

I would try to not feel bad about that, just take it at your own pace

pastel sapphire
#

True

tepid moon
#

id still send t1 though

pastel sapphire
#

I said to my self today that when I'm fresh and gaming, will t1

#

But when I'm not, I'll do t2 cos any chance is better than none

tepid moon
#

I think that's a very flawed argument tbh

pastel sapphire
#

I've been here 2 weeks now, maybe going on 3 and only at 220 kc

tepid moon
#

220kc in 3 weeks is a lot

#

in 2 weeks thats even better

#

id recommend focusing on improving your prep, thats also not very intense so hopefully doesn't depend as much on your energy level

#

and if its too much just put cg on hold for the day

pastel sapphire
# tepid moon I think that's a very flawed argument tbh

You are right, I quickly learnt why it's terrible to practice playing badly because you end out fucking your self over later on, prime example is accidentally making a bow instead of halberd because I skipped halberd for the first 100 kills

#

Happened like 3-4x in 100 kills but when it did it was a restart or yolo

tepid moon
#

yeah I'd aim to learn the best methods when you have the energy, and consider something else (skilling, for example) when you do not

#

one underrated upside of t1 is that prep is a lot faster so you get more hunllef practice per hour

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

fwiw your t2 prep still has a lot of room for improvement, sorry

pastel sapphire
#

True

#

How so?

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

the prescouting, dropping resources at the singing bowl and handling of fishing spots

#

all had room to improve

#

also killing a scorpion before you had a t2 weapon

#

nah I dont mean mcclumpy, though you could

pastel sapphire
#

Granted I've only done 5 successful t1 and my first 3 were on day 1, other 2 were random attempts and probably 3 failures since day 1

tepid moon
#

if you can handle the fight the way you did in that video t1 is not an issue

#

you'll take a couple of 13s instead of 11s and have to eat like four more fish, but thats it

pastel sapphire
#

T1 24 food or t1 16 food

tepid moon
#

the gap should be a bit closer but sure

pastel sapphire
#

No prayer scrolls, 77/86/88/89

#

73 def

tepid moon
#

not having prayer scrolls is better

pastel sapphire
#

Really?

#

How

tepid moon
#

no but people whine like hell

#

and not having the prayers gives them an excuse

pastel sapphire
#

Lol

#

But is 16 food t1 viable if I played like I did in that clip?

tepid moon
#

rig/aug really dont have a significant impact on success rate at cg

#

they save a bit of time but not enough that you really notice

#

but once you have them and still fail a ton it means you're bad

tepid moon
#

actually id grab 24 while (re)learning t1

pastel sapphire
#

20 is good number

tepid moon
#

and then gradually move it down

pastel sapphire
#

Ye

#

Ok well I'll try again tomorrow

#

Is mcclumpy good or nah

tepid moon
#

its not the fastest t1 prep but its easy and consistent and quite fast

pastel sapphire
#

It doesn't seem to be much better than t2 but I've not done many runs of it

tepid moon
#

I personally dont use it but I do recommend it to people learning

pastel sapphire
#

I'll have a look at your time stamp comments tomorrow when at pc cos haven't had a chance to review them yet

#

But I'm interested in my prep mistakes

#

I've kinda just adapted stuff to what I've learnt but I'm probably doing unnecessary crap

tepid moon
#

yeah ime a lot of people do pretty lousy prep

#

imo t1 prep with 15 fish should take around 4:30 mins

pastel sapphire
#

My issue with mcclumpy is when I get demis on opposite sides of map, or I don't find the resources still after doing the L shape

#

Then it feels slower

tepid moon
#

thats a much bigger issue with t2 than it is with t1

#

t1 you only need one of each resource node

pastel sapphire
#

I've only failed t2 prep maybe twice (after learning ofc) and that was my own fault

#

Even then I got kill with t3 and t2

tepid moon
#

id say any prep over 5:30 or so is a failure πŸ˜›

#

the ingame timer is just bait

pastel sapphire
#

Right

#

Fwiw if I'm taking 5+ minute breaks between kills, is it really worth saving time in cg?

tepid moon
#

I dont see why your break time would make it better to slow down your cg runs

#

but if you really want to you can always do the fast prep first, then afk for 40s before going into the room

pastel sapphire
#

Lol

#

If I get good maybe a 3 minute break

#

Now that's something to strive for

#

Ok fine I'll learn t1s but I'm telling you most my kills are so janky that they end out as failures if t1

#

So I'm kinda anxious about it

#

Or reluctant I should say

harsh robin
#

i just wanna comment ur ui placement is completely psychotic lmao

pastel sapphire
#

I get that comment at least once a week fr

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

yes but you should ideally be making the weapon that matches a demiboss thats close

pastel sapphire
#

What is meant by lucky break,

tepid moon
#

thats why you light the rooms first

#

to see which ones you have

pastel sapphire
#

Right

tepid moon
#

and make a corresponding weapon

pastel sapphire
#

Ooo

#

Yes I see

#

So you don't end out in a t2 staff with 100 less shards situation

tepid moon
#

yes

pastel sapphire
#

Yeh I get it now

#

Ok

#

I'm ngl that's a huge time save

#

It's happened more times than I can count

pastel sapphire
#

running to safe inner area, what do you mean by this?

#

Do you mean this?

tepid moon
#

No I meant this

pastel sapphire
#

I don't like t1 man, I can do it but then every other kill I make 1 single mistake and the runs over cos not enough food :/

pastel sapphire
unkempt solar
pastel sapphire
unkempt solar
#

0 point eating at 60 HP, losing ticks, making the fight longer, and ironically going to end up taking more damage

pastel sapphire
#

BRUH reccomends the opposite

unkempt solar
#

Whatever works best πŸ‘

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

you can save a few ticks per fight by dropping low, at the risk of losing 10+ minutes if you make a mistake

#

at 100 ticks per minute your mistake rate needs to be incredibly low for that to win in the long run

#

I think theres dozens of other mistakes that are more important to look into first. It's also a bad habit for pvm in general and adds complications exactly when you can least handle them in cg

#

same with junk like redemption proccing or woox walking nados in cg

#

technically they're good but they are very high risk and low reward

#

imo its bordering on harmful to recommend it to people learning

pastel sapphire
#

Or even people doing the full bowfa grind tbh

tepid moon
#

from what ive seen, yeah

pastel sapphire
#

It's so mentally draining that it's almost garunteed you will make mistakes

tepid moon
#

theres definitely pvmers out there who benefit from dropping low, tick eating and/or redemption proccing

#

but I know I'm not one of them

pastel sapphire
#

Yeh maybe gnomonkey or something

#

But the average player isn't on that level

#

I've only succeeded at 2 redemption procs out of the 6 or so that I've had to do as a last resort, it's incredibly risky and I fail immediately if I get tornado at the same time

#

Theoretically you could do cg with just potions and no food, which also means no loss of dps, but dayum that's next level sweat

tepid moon
#

thats wr I think

pastel sapphire
#

Yup

#

Apparently the dude had over 600 deaths, or was it 400 I can't remember

#

Wondering if that's just because of redemption failing or just really shit rng or he suicides when it's not wr I don't know

#

Anyway, any advice on my run?

unkempt solar
#

Agreed, tbf I can see the benefit of staying 50+ if you're not redemption or tick eating. Cus if your eating every 2nd hunleff attack cus your at 15hp your wasting lots of ticks. I do send a lot of remeptions to speed up but yeah can lead to some pointless deaths on last phase tornade running πŸ€ͺ

tepid moon
#

I havent looked at your vid, I've got some time in a bit

tepid moon
pastel sapphire
#

I've been thinking about Solo Jawns video a bit, because I'm with you pertfawn, tick eating is technically better, and would could of saved me a few deaths when I made bad plays by being trapped between hunlef, safe tiles, and nados

tepid moon
#

the only way to save ticks on eating are

  1. when you're out of combat, e.g. running from nados for more than 4 ticks, or
  2. at the end of the kill, when each food eaten extends the fight by 3 ticks (but imo it's worth it to not have a surprise death)
pastel sapphire
#

But I don't know if it's really worth the risk. I've tick ate when doing t1, or I have low food

tepid moon
#

I think it is 100% not worth it

#

just don't be in a bad position

#

focus on movement and positioning, while keeping your health up

#

you should never be stuck

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

over time getting better at positioning in the room will save you far more than a tick eat as needed

#

jawns video has two big mistakes unfortunately

#

he got food mechanics wrong, and as a result his eating advice is outdated (and he's since come around on that but its still in the old vid)

#

also he doesnt prescout demibosses

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

the rest is still great but those are two big points of improvement

#

I never really triangle/square around nados

pastel sapphire
pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

I prescout all three rooms

pastel sapphire
#

How do you handle the p3 with hally?

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
tepid moon
pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

also in some weird cases you can decide to go left or right from the two demibosses depending on resources you found

#

yeah its just the timing

pastel sapphire
#

I'm still trying to learn that, I've sort of got the hang of nados despawning, copped a couple deaths when learning it though lol

#

As for the floor, that one's pretty hard in p3 imo

#

I guess it will come naturally with experience

#

I can say that I'm only just now feeling really comfy in CG, after like 280 kc

harsh robin
#

i definitely find personally that trying to save a few ticks with some "fancy" plays just ends up with me dying half the time

pastel sapphire
#

I did a few in the video I posted a few replies up

harsh robin
#

i swear chasing speed instead of going casually just tanks my completion rate by like 80% lol

pastel sapphire
#

I feel like I'm at the point where I've learnt cg, and now I'm learning to do big brain plays because I trust my self to do them

pastel sapphire
#

Especially with halberd

unkempt solar
harsh robin
#

i need to learn halberd but honestly its just way more comfy doing bow staff

pastel sapphire
#

People don't need to be afraid of it at all

harsh robin
#

i havent done halberd since like my first 50 kc PepeLa

pastel sapphire
#

All you need to know to do it is click infront of hunlef, watch true tile go there, then attack

tepid moon
pastel sapphire
#

Rest is the same pretty much, just different nado pathing

tepid moon
#

I just count even/odd for halberd across the room

#

but you save a lot of time on prep to run with any two weapons yeah

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

so definitely dont force bow + staff

#

ok im watching now πŸ˜„

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

when running you move two tiles per tick

#

so if you're an odd number of tiles away from hunllef you'll run right up

#

and if you're an even number of tiles away you will hit with a one tile gap

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

theres no plugins on the steam client

pastel sapphire
#

Oof

#

Idk what to say man

#

Your choice I guess kekw

#

Tbh I'd be fine going vanilla if they at least optimised menus, or allowed you to, everything else is w.e

tepid moon
#

yeah menu entry swapper is one of the most broken cheat plugins in the game, and it made people reliant on it

pastel sapphire
#

My prep in that one is hella scuffed cos I stopped gathering 1 tick too fast a couple times, and took a bear hit idk how tf I did that one so bad but otherwise I'm happy with the hunlef fight

tepid moon
#

the tick early leaving and the bear hit are w/e

#

theres a bunch of bigger problems with the prep

pastel sapphire
#

Oh?

#

I'm gonna guess and say some pathing issues, and probably shard collection

tepid moon
#

0:35 ah you're still on t2, thats going to cost a bit of time
0:40 I think you mistakenly prescout that, that room cannot have a demiboss. Let me know if a more detailed explanation would help.
2:00-2:25 This is time that t2 prep loses and t1 wouldn't have. Your inv is full, you have to drop stuff and juggle it and later drop even more at the singing bowl.
2:35 You can fill vials on fishing spots, saving time
3:40 Why not fish here? Or at 3:45?
5:05 Bad rng on the second demiboss, but good that you found it.
5:32 Another example of t2 time cost, now you have to drop the fish and pick itr back up later. Ideally you'd make the gear and weapons first, but there's no inv space.
6:00 This costs a lot of time picking up wrong items, just drop fish, pick the resources up, make gear, pick the fish back up.
6:10 Being out of shards is painful. You lost about 2 minutes to going for t2 this prep 😦
7:00 This is really neat, and exactly how I'd handle this situation. That path will guarantee that you're in melee range when hunllef next changes overheads.
7:50 I'd have gone in the other direction here.
7:52 You can attack from that tile, there's no need to run closer.
8:15 This was a good opportunity to eat. I would have also stayed on the west side of the room.
8:48 You knew Hunllef is going to change overhead on the next hit, so once you click attack you can eat and swap weapon and then get ready for a driveby hit on the new floor pattern
8:55 Definitely eat here
9:32 This is another good situation to eat more fish

pastel sapphire
#

Lose 3 ticks here, gain time later mentality. Been getting stooged on layouts a lot lately

tepid moon
#

well stop sending t2

#

most of the bad habits on prep are directly related to trying to do t2

#

if you want to optimise t2 its still worth getting rid of the bad habits though

pastel sapphire
#

Mm the t2 vs t1 thing, I know, but I'm not really confident in it. I tried a few after our last chat, but only got 1 kill out of the 2 hours I tried

#

I definitely notice the time saved but yeh its the case of getting killed versus getting the kill

tepid moon
#

thats really surprising, your hunllef is more than good enough for t1

#

idk then

pastel sapphire
#

Half the time when I'm doing these kills, I'm tired and just grinding away because any chance is better than none

#

Id say 90% of my kills are not as clean as that video

#

Sadly I don't know what else to do other than maybe drink coffee

#

Because I know how to do it, but it's like my hands are on auto pilot and sometimes they miss

#

So for that 1 hour of the day that I'm good, it's Gucci, but the other 5+ are scuffed

#

But today I realised if I just stop thinking about how to do it, and instead just do it, some how it happens?

#

Idk if that makes sense

#

Like it's a confidence thing

tepid moon
#

if thats how you feel I dont really have any advice for you

pastel sapphire
#

Fair

#

I can absolutely do t1s

tepid moon
#

I think you're limiting yourself a lot by sticking with t2

pastel sapphire
#

But they don't work out for me most of the time

tepid moon
#

and your prep isnt all that great for t2 as well, theres a lot of room to optimise that

#

your hunllef looks clean and there should be no problem with t1

pastel sapphire
#

Ok well that's good at least

#

Tbh that makes me happy knowing I've got hunlef down, after all that is the most difficult part of it all and caused me the most headache learning

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

you filled up your inventory and then spent a minute dropping and juggling

#

every time you drop something that loses a tick

#

every time you pick something up that loses another

pastel sapphire
#

So are you saying to just go kill stuff for shards then come back and make it?

#

Do I even make a t2 weapon first or no?

tepid moon
#

I'm saying to skip resource nodes on your initial 'c' to match what you are going to make before you head out the second time

#

then go out the second time and get the resources and items as needed

#

and get fish only after teleporting back, but only if there's enough fish close

pastel sapphire
#

That goes against everything I've learnt already but I'll try it

tepid moon
#

yes you need a t2 wep asap

tepid moon
#

its also not easy to learn the method I prefer

#

especially since t2 means you need a lot of resources

#

trying to go fast with t2 is really hard mode

tepid moon
#

you have to decide to collect/skip a lot of resource nodes on the fly

#

micromanage your shards and your inv slots and your fishing spots

#

I hate it

pastel sapphire
#

So you're saying it saves more time to do a second lap around, instead of dropping?

tepid moon
#

theres no second lap around

pastel sapphire
#

There is

#

First c

#

Then demis and armour

tepid moon
#

sorry I dont have the enthusiasm to guide you through prep from scratch

#

I'm gonna leave it here, good luck

pastel sapphire
#

Alright

#

Im sorry if it's something I've said

tepid moon
#

nah its just that prep is difficult and I've previously commented on your prep

#

theres also a vid of my prep in #1052266500041478246

#

I would change a lot of things about your prep, if you hit me with the "I'm tired and some chance is better than none" thats kinda end of story

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

Personally I would never have started doing t2 runs

#

and I think getting on t1 late is better than never

pastel sapphire
#

So it would probably be better to do cg when I'm good for t1s, then just do other content when I'm not

#

A better use of time at least

tepid moon
#

I think you can do t1 always

pastel sapphire
#

Ok

#

I'm looking at resources but can't see your video under the cg section, am I missing something?

#

Ok I found it under !faq

pastel sapphire
#

Okay we've made the transition to t1's and it's going fine, couple of close calls where I have had exactly 0 food on its final 100 hp but that's due to making 1 mistake in those runs, otherwise its chill. Do have to concentrate quite a bit more though lol

pastel sapphire
tepid moon
#

nice! That's a really good ratio. As a rule of thumb the prep of t1 is so much faster than t2 that as long as your success rate is over 85% or so its higher kph

#

or approx a death an hour

#

you're going for a full inventory of fish?

pastel sapphire
#

most kills needed all food, but a couple didnt

harsh robin
#

@tepid moon what do u think is like minimum required food to guarantee a kill? I know if I bring like 20 I can definitely guarantee it but that feels like it adds too much time in 99% of cases. But if I go down to 16 it's like a 90% success rate even with a bunch of erros. But like some kills where I won't miss ticks in phase 1 and 2 but I'll literally just noodle for 0s until I'm down to 5 food and miss the kill and those are really tilting

tepid moon
#

it depends on your stats and skill. In general I'd bring enough food to basically guarantee it, grabbing a few extra fish does not add a lot of time

pastel sapphire
#

bowfa when? 302 kc 😦

#

pls soon

#

ok my t1s feel really chill now

#

even with some mess ups its usually fine

pastel sapphire
#

Ok so yeh video proof that scuffed t1 is still better than t2

#

this is when fatigued with hella mistakes, still got kc

tepid moon
#

t1 is good yeah πŸ˜„

pastel sapphire
#

ok now starting to fail every run cos super fatigued, back to t2 for tonight

pastel sapphire
#

Oh man going back to t2 is easyscape rofl, could fall asleep with how easy it is

tepid moon
#

nice πŸ˜„ slow though πŸ˜‰

deft plinth
#

I generally try to stay in middle both for lava and to pile the nades when they spawn. For what that’s worth.

timid carbon
#

Haven't read the entire thread, but based on the last video:

You're using a lot of space for nadoes, just walking between the same 5 tiles is pretty easily done if nadoes are already stacked up, if not stacked up yet you just move perpendicular to your previous line when the next nado is near and they'll more or less stack up. Rule of thumb is that 2 big steps (4 tiles of travel) away from a nado will always net you an attack. Learning to use less space helps with not getting in iffy lava situations.

I'd recommend never going "behind" llef if he's close to the wall unless you feel comfortable hitting on non-activated lava. (Also passing through llef diagonally helps).

You're missing attacks because you're running from nadoes early / don't know that your next tick will be an attack, a plugin like visual metronome might help with learning to optimise your attack timings.

pastel sapphire
#

also you are Definitely right about not going behind Hunlef, it's been fatal more times than useful and I think I do it because I am hyperfocused on doing dps? But it tends to pay off to be safe instead

#

also trying to make sure I eat instead of losing ticks to dpsing in bad situations
