Hey everyone! A bit of background. I am an RS3 maxed main with a 2300 total Ironman. I love OSRS videos and tried playing on a main and got it to about 1000 total. I got frustrated with the arbitrary and pointless money-making just to get gear for mid game PVM. There seemed not to be much okay money making before vork/zulrah. Anyways I’m considering starting an Ironman because it generally is more goal oriented and has more to work towards than just gear for PVM. With the very end goal being PVM I’ve heard both Bruhsailer and oxiris v4 are good to follow? Which would you suggest, and any general suggestions for my situation? Thanks everyone!

if you want a quick ironman guide and a decent wepon, oxiris v4 is good
bruhsailer is way more wellrounded ironman
ready for pvm
oxiris v4 is like a more faster way to bofa for hardcore and ironmans
If PVM is the goal I’ll probably go for oxiris then!
if your not going for account progress, then ye thats fine!
yea do keep in mind oziris wastes a bunch of time on bad/inefficient methods
That’s very true. I do want a more well rounded account too.
It rlly is just cg bumrush
you can skip some grindy parts in parasiler, but slayer becomes better and better the more you waint!
I'd take a bit of a step back and make sure you have a clear view of what 'pvm goals' mean to you
ironman mode has the special feature that you should be self-sufficient in your play
this means that, for example, you'll want 90 (boostable) herblore to make super combat potions for pvm
and that you'll probably want 95+ slayer to go for a dragon hunter lance for the chambers of xeric
93 slayer for an occult to be reasonably effective with magic anywhere at all
in general on an iron it's advantageous to spend a lot of time preparing for future grinds. I consider this an upside - you are made to explore all aspects of the game, really becoming a perfect all-rounder
however if you want to focus on specific pvm I'd make sure you have a clear idea of when that content is viable and/or efficient on an iron
If PvM is your goal ironman is kinda whatever
personally I don't enjoy going into pvm with the bare minimum in stats and gear at all, especially if it adds dozens or hundreds of hours to getting uniques. But some people do, and want to push that as low as possible
I think my goal with OSRS is just to do PVM generally. It seems pretty fun! I know the self sustainability aspect from my RS3 iron. It’s made a lot of the boring and otherwise painful grinds more worthwhile.
Instead of just random money making to get a slightly better weapon
Iron PvM grinds can be a bit memey
Yeah that is a big part of what makes ironman great imo, items aren't just measured on a single (gp) scale
Like, 100 efficient hours for a lance or whatever
Man that’s painful
And you have to skill for 1k efficient hours before you get to do it
but do beware the scope of the plan you're going for
If you are OK with those things then send
I guess I also need to keep in mind I start med school in august and won’t have this much time then haha
e.g. I think it takes around 1500 hours of efficient play to get ready for cox
Man that’s a lot
Just be aware that you're signing up to do a lot of skilling and then do linear grinds
That’s true
one of the most important skills to train early on an iron is farming, for example
It is. I just got frustrated with the super slow XP for something that seemed like it mattered less
rushing that to 85 is a good way to get ready for your future growth
by contrast, one of the worst things you could do is jump into slayer early
farming contracts
since almost every skill improves slayer but not the other way around
in farming guild
yeah its farming contracts for seed packs, then farming those on herb runs
you can also get some good herblore xp from quest rewards, diary lamps, barbarian fishing and pvm
though the last one is mostly lategame content, I'd recommend training to at least 90 herblore without planning on e.g. cox/tob herbs
really 93 but it's w/e
Transportation pre fairy rings seems terrible too
ye, but its a easy quest
there are a lot of things that are more difficult at low level
osrs is basically about making things easyer! xD
but ime the part that people struggle with the most is the end of earlygame/start of midgame
I've seen some irons go something along the lines of "I have spent the last 1000 hours skilling, surely my account is now strong, and surely I deserve to do PvM after all this preparation"
i mean, its diffrent between efficent pvm and pvm
and the answer usually is "it depends". Everybody can always go for whatever they like, but most of the time people's accs just arent at the stage where that would be a good idea
e.g. 93 slayer before maging much
e.g. bowfa from corrupted gauntlet before anything else really
Yeah that was my big issue with PVM. It’s like the combat training is so slow I need to do 100s of hours before I’m even kinda ready
on irons itll take a lot longer, sorry
Honestly the combat is pretty equal no
ye kinda
Like yeah mains can have slightly better nmz gear
Yeah that’s true
meanwhile ironman alch to 92
well your ironman is basically a journey, normie acc is basically do what you want^^
if you are upset with the linear nature of gp grinding you could also make a bronzeman/unofficial ironman
where you self-impose that you can only use gear once you've obtained it yourself, for example
Ultimately you can do linear grinds on a main
this way you get to only train the support skills you value while still avoiding the moneymaker-into-moneymaker
not trying to unmotvaite you, but many people quiet becuse its way more repetativ gaming
Yeah my inspiration for making a new account was actually watching flipping oldschools chunk video earlier today
Just commit to doing 100 tob kc or whatever
Yeah true
Again I have the RS3 experience but that kinda haunts me when it comes to xp rates
Fwiw I think if your goal is to pvm mainscape is better
Like
You aren't becoming a better pvmer doing slow ironman shit
It's just time not spent pvming
The reason to do ironman is because you like the skilling grinds themselves
if your doing skilling as a chore, maybe ironman isnt for you 😮
Ofc, skilling is way more fun on a ironman then a normie
Yeah I think I’m just going to stick to the main! I would love the Ironman goal orientation but the time investment is probably a bit to much rn. Thank you for all the tips!
Ye its nice to try
FWIW I de-ironed an account in early med school mostly because I thought I wouldn’t have time. Now I’m a few months from grad and am making crazy gains on a new Ironman. For me I enjoy having a game with varied intensity levels because the time I can spend fishing is different than time spent pvming
also keep in mind, you dont need to be playing 8+ hours/day, you can make good progress on an account with the free time you get during school/work etc. If you already heavily disliked the boring main gameplay loop of make money, buy item (Don't blame you, I can't play mains anymore) I would just start up an account, follow a guide until you're bored of it and want to set off on your own goals.
Only issue with playing 2-3 hours a day is when you get to mid to late game
Feels like your getting no progress
And many people quiet
This is a fair point, but honestly I play a lot of the time for less than 3 hours/day just doing some farming/contracts and maybe an hour or so of pvm, at the end of the day if you get bored of the game like we all do at times you just have to take a break
