Brooks journey has been one of finding his place in the world again after a 50 year gap, and overcoming his senility.

Not just becoming a more confident fighter, where he started on the crew post-TB as one of the scaredy cats alongside Nami and Usopp, and now he's one of the ones casually walking to the frontline. A guy who needed to be rescued in TB and unable to help in the situation being the guy in Wano running to everyone else's scenes and playing an unsung supporting role across the entire battlefield.

But he's also become less and less demented. Not as jokey. His nuggets of ancient wisdom from his living life becoming more and more common WCI onwards. There's an air of maturity to him he didn't used to have in the early days of his being a crewmate.

I think it makes sense of second flashback is happening now. He's built himself back up into being the man he used to be, he's not the comical outsider anymore. I've repeatedly called him OPs take on Ben Gunn from Treasure Island, he shared many of the same traits and hardships, and he's gradually overcome all the damage that they caused. Nows the time to dig further back and fight the demons that caused him to get there in the first place, move beyond the recovery phase and start growing

it's probably one element of what his actual strength was, especially at his prime. But in what I'm currently thinking, I want to think he was capable of using Haki and was a very proficient user of Armament in particular on top of that.

But that he lost his ability to use Haki because of the Shuri incident severely crippling his will and mental and rendered him incapable of using it. Haki's a power based on willpower, if your will is weak, so is your Haki. And Im assuming your capability to use it decreases as your will weakens. You can probably connect the rest of the dots of what Im current thinking.

Basically I would have loved for the rest of the straw hats to be able to handle themselves but it’s always the trio coming to the rescue and eating up all the allotted time. When Zoro was incapacitated after the roof fight I was so looking forward to what was going to happen with him and who was going to handle what only for him to once again fight the second in command. I just wish he didn’t stick so rigidly to the shonen fight structures cause it ends up with his huge cast of MCs having to split up screen time very unevenly

well, maybe. But when your willpower and mental shatters because of traumatic events, it often cripples your capabilities of doing things that you would've originally been proficient in.

like lets say you've been in a severe car crash but you manage to survive but the ones that happen to be travelling with you like close friends or family, end up not making it. You're very likely not going to be the same person after that due to PTSD which affects your thinking and physical capabilities.

which in this case, the Shuri incident would've likely severely led to PTSD and trauma in Brook that he's locked away in his mind for decades. He's eventually moved on at an extent and returned to his music loving happy self but not fully because the Shuri incident is still a huge loose end that he's been refusing to confront until now.

if he can confront and realize the actual reality and truth of what really happened, I can imagine it could unlock and reawaken his potentially dormant abilities like Haki and skill that never actually depleted.

It's sort of interesting to try to break the overall story into a very small number of parts, like you would with a novel or something. I broke it down into five at some point ... I think it was start -> Alabasta (Luffy and Zoro are handicapped or just stomp every fight before the end of Alabasta; journey is generally pretty chill w/ little reference to the rest of the world); Jaya -> Merry's funeral (Luffy comes into his own as captain, crew is fully together, declare war on WG); Thriller Bark -> Marineford (obvious); and then I was guessing b/c it was the start of Wano but I figured Return to Saobody -> Wano (bring Strawhats from rookie-stompers to major world players); and then whatever the final arc would be. (I think I came up with this somewhere in the middle of Wano).
