I guess I am approaching this from more of a meta perspective. This need of having a flashback or "extra information" which would provide a fully confirmation through story outright showing you/telling you rather than having the information presented interestingly through other means, whether that be through what others think of a character, or in this case Dragon's appearance in others flashbacks and so on.

It's more of an annoyance resulting from treatment of Kaido in the fandom because he didn't have "interesting" backstory, as if backstory is the end all of any sort of characterization a character could have, ignoring all that was shown through contrasting him with Oden, with Yamato, his treatment of Yamato and Yamato proving him wrong, his characterization through Oden flashback, through the latter Rocks flashback.

And I see this already present in Dragon. Because we have seen quite a lot of Dragon. We haven't outright been "told" through the story, whether in dialogue or scenes (which would only happen in the Dragon flashback), but different facets of his character are now all but explored completely. A flashback might be good yes. It would allow his story to have a direct emotional core that Oda could exploit to bring emotions out of the readers, but for the most part, it would be retreading the grounds that has already been covered for his character. And on the meta part, it's this overindulgence or reliance of flashbacks that leds to actual characterization being reduced to "bullet points" like Muk said yesterday. I guess spoonfeed isn't a really good word here or wasn't yesterday, but it's in the context that it's used as the strong core of a character for people who don't engage enough with the story to try to understand the various indirect or subtle characterization that's done with a character's dialogue, their actions, contrasting a character with another character, showing a character through the lens of different individuals, etc
