I feel like people still see Dragon as the peak of mystery who appeared in Loguetown or was mentioned in the reverie but didnt that stop when his family was revealed? Maybe not in that moment, but now we already know hes Garps son and Luffys father, hes kind of a "normal" guy who commands over the Revolutionary army and has a close relationship with Kuma, Ivankov, Sabo, Koala, Garp and even Robin. These arent the outlines for a mystery character anymore, we just didnt learn that much about Dragon yet but we probably will. It would be amazing if Dragon was still Mystery guy who we still dont know anything about except a crazy appearance every hundred chapters although that would be difficult after 1200 chapters. Since you mentioned asoiaf it would be great for dragon to be in books because then wed get different perspectives on the guy which is what @hardy stratus wants I think. Like why did Ivankov and Kuma have so much faith in Dragon, do Sabo and Koala look up to him like to a father, what do Dragons enemies think of him etc. I know people like when not all blanks are filled but Dragon seems to have mostly blanks for a character who realistically shouldnt have that many? Thats probably where peoples dissonance (man I just feel like writing buzzword festival here) with Dragon comes from, and dont get me wrong a lot of them are memeing or just dumb and Oda will definitely cook with Dragon, but for that, like with Shanks, Roger etc. Dragon will also be stripped off the mystique which I dont see in him anyway. Hes that type of character, no Thriller Bark monster or Moon creature or Imu (hell even Imu isnt Imu anymore )

Honestly just being the bridge between Garp and Luffy makes me think hes totally getting a flashback, even if it might not be his alone and more like Garps flashback that includes him, like Harald and Loki. I dont even think a flashback would do that much damage to the mystery anyway, its just normal story but on black instead of white pages

Oh, so, Dragon (as with BB) are characters that probably do need to be explored. We've seen enough of them in small amounts to make us curious and both are necessary characters to the endgame of the series. So them remaining a mystery is probably unecessary. Doesn't mean we need to know everything about their life, just what helps move the story forward and their characterization.
