The thing that hits me with Imu is that everything that makes him interesting is kinda the layer of detail on top of him. His horns, his halo, his tail shroud whatever, the tattoos, the skintone.

That's why I say it feels less caricature and more typical anime, because most anime styles build off a similar template and distinguish characters through fashion and subtle art style differences.

One Piece has always bucked that trend, even with the Emperors and Rocks, by making unique silhouettes and facial features the core of the character design with like one novel gimmick attached to it to make em pop. They can wear different outfits and be cast in silhouette and usually you can figure out who we're looking at because body type and riffing on actors' likenesses is SO important in this mangas aesthetic.

So yeah, Imu feels reserved to me. He's kinda just an anime pretty boy in that panel we got.

i did touch upon some of this in the other post but in general i think the idea is for him to stand out within the series itself, for him to stand antithetical to whimsy, freedom and joy. Characters and especially pirates in the series often have these unrefined, rugged and goofy looks in the series, whether that be their faces, clothing or physical builds. Imu is meant to be different from all of them.

I guess this refined pretty look might be common in general, but its not common in the series itself. Another thing I noted in the other post already, but this is again just one form after all, so I'm reserving further judgment for then too. Its not even Imu's real form.

Yeah, Egghead was a very good arc. Not sure how far at the top I'd put it, but I had a mostly great time with it. WCI is still number 1 though.
