At the end of the war, one of the allied Kings, Imu, betrayed Joyboy and usurped his position, flooding the world and taking the place of the Lunarians as Gods of control. Like pirates they stole power and were corrupted.

And they did not meet.

I interpreted this as a reference to the Kozuki and Momonosukes future role, since half moon means Kozuki in Japanese. Plus we haven't really learned alot about Wanos past. I feel like the true purpose of the Kozuki is yet to be revealed.

The only inconvenient remnant I can think of is Zunesha. He's basically a sinner atoning for his sins. But when he arrived at Wano he was able to hear Momonosukes voice and adhere to his wish to not tear down the borders.

I think inconvienent remnant is just the D, and the half moons are the D. We get told in the previous world that the half and full moons face off. I think the half moon faction wins, but Imu's faction breaks off and betrays Joy Boy, so the remaining halfmoons go on to become the Ds. Pretty sure imu literally calls them incontinences and remnants, he definitely calls them shells.
