was watching a youtube video about the colosseum in rome and what it used to be like, and apparently there used to be a huge statue of nero, called the colossus neroni, which was later reskinned to be a depiction of sol, "the sun god"
nero's statue becoming the statue of sol was a course of his popularity dying out, so the romans chose to retrofit that statue as being of sol
nero being the emperor was a figure by that point in the roman empire whose authority as an emperor superceded the gods (jupiter, saturn, mercury, etc) fading into obscurity after his death as sol took over that mantle as that statue came to be known
this tracks a lot with what we know of imu (attributing them to the nerona family) and of the gorosei being named after the roman gods, who replaced the greek gods (the ancient weapons), and joyboy and nika being the sun god whose resurgence is coming again in the form of luffy
additional information i learned that nero commissioned the statue and after his death, senators of rome did a "damnation of memory" which meant that anything or any symbol associated with him was erased or retrofitted into something else

but yea, I think its interesting as a direction for him, Akainu had previously maintained this level of antagonism with his character that it was hard to picture him being anything but a complete monster, but lately he has started to almost feel more human with his interactions with Kuma and Kizaru. It would be interesting to see him try to coexist with not only Koby but worse, with Luffy too.
