There are various reasons why Gunko has appeal to many different people. And the major reason for that is she’s different, she’s different from the rest of the celestial dragons in quite a few ways.

1. For one, she’s the only one truly close to Imu, we have no clue what her closeness is, what allows her to be an attendant to him, and why she’s always with him.

2. She’s immortal, holy knights all appear to have the invulnerability but Gunko has the imaging quality that is only possessed by the gorosei, as we can see she looks the exact same through several decades while the rest age.

3. She has a past with Brook that is different from any of the other celestial dragons, we don’t know how, we don’t know if she’s being manipulated, we don’t know who her father is . And it’s possible she isn’t responsible for her current actions nor is in control.

4. She’s can be possessed by Imu and so far is the only one that has been seen to. We’re unaware of why this is, and why Imu chose her in particular, it makes for an interesting history behind the character that further seperates her from the rest of the holy knights.

I see what you are saying and i really really want him to come back and be an important part of the story, but at this point i just dont see it. He has been outscaled in terms of ever having a fighting chance against the strawhats. He can still be important if he is a part of sword but thats the only angle i can see him be a part of. And the main reason is that i say this is that is that the story has to have a ending at some point. Oda has been writing this story for close to 30 years, there are so many questions that need answers. Why spend precious panels and chapters on characters that are no longer relevant to the plot of the story?
