And the fact that Lucci's Finger Pistol broke trough Luffy's rubber skin maybe made him realize he has to strengthen his rubber powers, too. That's how he came up with Gears, he got creative with his rubber abilities and used them in order to gain an advantage in battle that simple stretchy limbs couldn't achieve. Pretty great writing, i liked it a lot||

Crocodile and Jimbei did not want to fight against him and even in the end, nobody actually beat him. They just escaped through team work. It showed how strong he actually was. Easily one of the best arcs in One Piece||
