The team from each conference that finished with the best record not only won their respective divisions but get a bye in the 1st round of the playoffs, called the Wildcard round

The remaining division winners then each host a team depending on their respective seeds

The teams seeded 5-7 did better than the teams that didn't get to make the playoffs but didn't win their respective divisions, so they go on the road for their first playoff games

#

The games are all single elimination, so it's win or your season is done

#

After the wild card (WC) round it moves onto the divisional round (D), the 1st seeds get the face off against the winner from the WC round with the lowest seed, the other match up is between the other 2 winners from the WC, with the team that has the higher seed hosting

The winners from the divisional round move onto the conference championship (C), high seed hosts
