I understand. I think the difference is that expansion rules have changed dramatically, so the odds of Seattle getting useful players are higher than any other expansion draft prior ( not counting Vegas, obviously )
So where as in older expansions, you’d get shitty current player but you get that #1 overall. Now you have a better roster but with only a top 5 pick to even out

We don’t know if Vegas was a rare example though yet. Remember that we thought Vegas was trying to tank when picking the players they did in that draft. I still believe even in today’s age, the expansion team should have everything in the league’s power to get them to success quicker.

What I mean is, Vegas at least had the opportunity to get the players they got. Back in the day, the only players available would be old heads, and franchises prayed that the #1 pick would turn out to be a star. You’re right that they got lucky with how it turned out.
