Champion league spots are earned. Any team which finishes in top 4 of their league can enter. Even though on paper it's expected for big clubs to make it to the Champions League, there is still always a chance that they don't make it in the top 4 and get the ticket
Here's a most recent example. Juventus, the biggest club in Italy, is 4th in the Italian league rn. There is a chance that they may get dropped out of that spot and finish 5th,meaning on merit basis, no Champions League for them.
What this tournament does is remove all that merit system, so Juventus can now finish 11th in their domestic league from next season and still play in this European Super League. So that's one major reason

you know if there's one thing I liked about the UCL, was the different match ups you'll get to play in KO & Group stage rounds. Like it was always refreshing which is why it was somewhat like a special event. You won't always get to play AC Milan, Juve, Real Madrid etc etc. Barça vs Liverpool was in 2019 and the last time they faced in UCL before that was in 2007. Same with any other club, I guess my point is when the Super League is created it won't feel as special? as you'll be seeing these teams play a lot more regular, on a repetitive basis.
