Liverpool, before this summer, were easily a top 5 team in the world. Our performances last season were nothing short of spectacular and our losses were on very narrow margins. We had a player in Salah who had a record breaking year, our captain redefined just how good he is and easily gave himself the title of the best centreback (defender, most defensive/important position in defense in football), our midfield proved itself as world class-but we still had some glaring issues at striker and reliability on the left wing, as well as our fullbacks (wide defenders who defend the wings)-so a major summer reset was needed

we lost a player due to a very, very unfortunate tragedy and that dwindled our numbers of what we had to work with even more

i think even with us walking the league last year and losing to the eventual UCL champs on penalties, we were not a team that was like, perfect, or a "best in the world" overall

with these additions, i think we can probably argue that title. our top 5 is now a top 2

and i believe, especially if we get this centreback we're looking at tomorrow, that we'll be at the 1 spot.

This summer, we sold alot of players-8, in fact. But most of the players we brought in to replenish the squad were some of if not the single best player available in that position in world football.

Giovanni Leoni is one of the best young centreback talents in the world right now-18 years old and already ridiculously developed, huge signing for the future.
Giorgi Mamardashvili (who was technically a signing from last year) is the same for goalkeepers but not as young, 24 (though this is young for GKs as GKs can play much older), easily one of if not the best young goalkeeping talents on the market. Our current goalkeeper is one of if not the best goalkeepers on the planet and a signing like that is meant to be who replaces him (hes 32) in a few years or even next, and is great to have otherwise because Alisson is a bit injury prone and I trust Giorgi to start
Milos Kerkez was the leftback of the season last year and is only 21. Absolute needed replacement and one of the best to fill the position from Robertson (our leftback last season, proper legend but got old)
Jeremie Frimpong is an incredible talent as a wingback and is one of the most effective offensive defenders in the world (if this was hockey, think Makar on the Avs) and will be a great addition because we love to create from there. We had a huge loss in Trent Alexander-Arnold going to Madrid (one of our best players, one of the best passers in world football) and Frimpong was the closest to his "blueprint" around so its as if we're continuing with that talent.
We needed a striker and went for Hugo Ekitike, a 23 year old French striker from Frankfurt, because we needed that position-we had no strikers at the club after sales. I didn't know too much about this guy, but his highlights showed him as an elegant, technically brilliant finesse player who had size and speed to him. He has gelled wonderfully so far-already picked up 2 goals and an assist.
We're to sign Marc Guehi, 25 year old English centreback who has been arguably the best player on Crystal Palace for a few years (this is debatable but Palace fans themselves seem to think so, so...), very much needed as we sold a centreback and needed reinforcement in that area as a generality. This guy is SUPER solid, imagine adding someone like Nick Bosa to an already super stacked defense-thats what this could be.
This, however, is where it gets wild.
Florian Wirtz, who got done incredibly early into the window, was an utter blindside and unexpected transfer that came utterly out of the blue. Largely unexpected because he occupies a position Liverpool hadn't utilised in almost a decade (at least not consistently). This was my first sign of like "holy shit, what the fuck?" as he was like...WORLD talent. Getting him at this age is equivalent to getting someone like 22 year old Joe Burrow in a very stacked team. THAT kind of important. I expect great things of him.
Alexander Isak...I have no words for this transfer. This is prime Kansas City getting CMC, this is pairing Transformer up with Brady, i legit cannot explain to you. This guy is fucking good. One of the best strikers in the world, only 25, and is just "complete" in every sense of the word. I'll plug a comp of him below but yeah this guy is fucking serious business. I cannot believe we got him.
So-all of the above combined with a team that already won the title and could have won more-I truly believe we are a top 2 team in the world right now. We, for once, have elite players in every position. We have literally only strengthened our squad in every position EVEN WITH losses/outgoings. Sorry for the massive post lmao just got my brain going
