You gotta look back in history over 20 years ago when the NHL cancelled its season. A lot of bad things happened in the short term. But it was done for it's own good.
The way large market teams are abusing the system, while simultaneously, a lot of small market teams are keeping the money in their pockets. You either have to lock down the league in order to get a salary cap put in place, or you're contracting a lot of teams.
You have 30 teams with 2 more coming up in the next 10 years, you need a cap and cap floor.
