I need to remember exact percentages but essentially racial relations in Britain were partially fueled by black footballers breaking into the English national team and formed a symbiotic relationship. If we consider Barnes the ground zero (he wasn't but he was the first REALLY GOOD black player for England) we begin to see a social turnaround in census questions like "is black English", managers and scouts begin to notice more black players because of people like Barnes, more get called up/signed to major clubs, more are lauded (and hated too) by fans, and people see them and people like them as more familiar, bridging a racial divide that was fuelled by notions of postcolonialism

Tldr black people and players are way more accepted now than they were in like...let's say 2000, they absolutely do still face racial discrimination (2020), but so many of England's greatest sporting faces of the last 20 years have been black and have not only been proud to represent England, England (overwhelmingly but not 100%) have been proud and happy to have them represent them. The issue now is definitely Moslem/Arab individuals according to crime rates (targets of hate crimes, islamaphobic related ones are by far the highest percentage)
