I mean it’s fine to have that preference. I understand wanting to trade down possibly or take a weapon, then pay a known quantity at QB to help become somewhat relevant and see what that does compared to the crapshoot of the QB nfl draft and possibly be looking for another QB in 2 years picking in the top 5 again. Also, paying Dak a lot of money is not great but they have plenty of room and could absolutely afford it without it really hurting them

Seems good on paper. But you know most of these teams' franchise QBs were drafted by them. There are outliers but if you're in a position to draft a QB high, you're taking the QB.

I mean I don’t think the idea is to have Dak be the guy for long. Pay him tons on the front end while you acquire picks and help build a winning culture (instead of winning 4-5 games a year the next 2 years at least) and be “in the hunt” again instead of being absolute ass with Daniels or maye with arguably the worst offensive talent in the league

Yeah. Sometimes teams luck into QBs. Aaron Rodgers just happened to last long enough for GB to get him. The Phins were lucky the Jets buttfumbled and picked the wrong QB over Marino.

But it's hyperbole to say great teams luck into these great QBs. The Chiefs traded up to get Mahomes, the Bills traded up to get Josh Allen. The teams know how to develop these guys.

Theoretically you wouldn’t have Dak till next year anyways. So you’d have this cap roll over, get another high pick next year after being bad this year as well. You would trade down for 2 firsts this year and possibly an extra first next year. You’d have plenty of cap space to pay him a 3 year 60+ million front load and it not cripple your team

Also. This needs to be said. There's a bunch of hypotheticals in Nick Wright's idea. 1: You're assuming Dak would be available in 2025. The Cowboys might as well re-sign him by that time. Then you really look like a dumbass not picking a QB in the draft and 2: If the Cowboys don't re-sign him and aren't doing anything in their power to create the cap space to keep him, then have you considered asking yourself in a league where having a franchise QB is few and between what does that reflect on Dak? If Dak was so good why would the Cowboys even think about getting rid of him?
