S2 was very weirdly paced, it felt like it slowed down the momentum so much for a show that moves fast constantly and it just didn't feel like it was trying to do the things it started with in the first place

Though I loved a lot of scenes in it

I do think it flows better in a binge but the weekly experience with that season was ass

The Boys all seasons ||I dont know, I felt like everything about it was fitting after what we knew in s1. Homelander trying to find his son. Homelander losing his "mother figure" and kinda being goaded by Stormfront in her place. Homelander further descending. I also felt like the pacing was very good. If anything, I find the erratic pacing of s1 and s3 to feel more unnatural. S2 felt to me like it was the most naturally paced without too many hard cuts between scenes for the sake of constant big events happening. S3 especially felt the most erratic and worse for it, but the events themselves were really good so it still beats out s1 for me. Homelander especially was fantastic. I liked Soldier Boy as a villain/ally combo and the shit about him calling Homelander a pussy and beating his and his grandson's ass was fitting, but I cant help but feel like they needed maybe another 10 minutes to make the finale feel more impactful. Meanwhile for me, s2 has the best finale of any of the seasons. ||

and I also did binge s1 and 2 back to back

so maybe thats part of why I feel this way

The Boys season 3 ending || I think Homelander's descent into madness was done better in Season 3 than Season 2, also showed to how smart he can actually be. Soldier Boy is my favourite new addition to the show, just incredible stuff that they did to show how much of a rotten egg he was but I do agree that it should've been more of a focus for him and Homelander to have something with Ryan to make the finale more impactful. I did love the strain that the Boys went through this season both personally and as a team, where every member has a moment or two of absolute low points and it makes for a better experience when we see them end up together at the end given all that is about to happen and how their goals unite and focus itself. I love the wild moments as well, this season was far more gonzo than the previous ones with the extremity but it also gave a lot of meaningful characters arcs, especially to MM who had an excellent trajectory this season, and Hughie as well. I loved the internal conflicts with the antagonists as well and I particularly loved what we got with A-Train and Deep, especially with the hilarious downfall of Deep just showing how much of a simpleton he is and what an idiot he is to follow Homelander so vigorously. ||

The Boys season 3 ending || my biggest critique this season is doing Black Noir dirty though, that shit just hurt to watch and see it down the drain if this truly is the end for him, we need more of the guy, this can't be the end. That fact alone dropped a lot of points for the finale. ||

The Boys s3 ||Well his descent was following s2, so ofc his descent into madness would be moreso here since he has already descended pretty far prior to this season. I like almost everything in s3 on individually, I just dont think it was paced as well as s2. The events standalone were all pretty great, but the pacing made them feel very abrupt at times. Also I actually liked Black Noire's death (if he is dead). All that buildup to him coming back only for Homelander to realize that he isnt actually a true friend to him. It was shock factor done right imo. Even though Homelander did his job for him, Soldier Boy still didn't accept him. And I think that added to the moment in particular. But for s2, I dont really have any issues with the pacing at all. And I like the individual moments pretty much equally as much as s3's. Its just a different part of the story, and s3 had progressed enough to have bigger things happen during it. So Im kinda viewing s2's qualiity based on its point in the story. Also Frenchie is my favorite character and he was best in s2, so theres that. I actually think this was the weakest season for Frenchie as well. I agree wiith his motivations and wanting to leave the team etc, but it felt like they didnt commit much to that concept compared to some of the other characters' struggles with Butcher etc. It meandered a bit too much with his stuff. Dude is a badass on a leash, but I think they took that concept a bit too far as well to where he felt almost entirely useless despite his prior involvement in previous seasons. ||

Where as Maeve took the explosion, but was resistant to it, and then also didn't hheal after but didn't receive as much damage due to the resilience. Also, I cant tell if it was bigger tbh. It felt to me like it looked that way because it was point blank and the explosion spread out, as opposed to it beaming at Kimiko||

Boys s3 finale ||I won't get too hung up over this because it doesn't ruin much for me. Just felt like it was set up as a death scene so kinda wanted it to go through. I've heard she's leaving the show too so . I really liked this season overall especially the first 7 episodes but there are some things that annoyed me in the finale. I thought Kimiko bashing in that guys face was a bit extra. Her arc was about understanding that powers can be used for good if she protects the people she loves which she was doing by protecting Frenchie but ... why did they make her brutally murder a guy who was just doing his job. Felt a bit unnecessary. I liked the Soldier Boy stuff mostly, there was quite a lot of switching sides tho which felt a bit jarring? Especially since Ryan caused all that. It's one of those frustrating moments in fiction where you go "if that person wasn't there, they could have won". Also just annoys me how Homelander walks away from the Boys AGAIN. Same shit happened last season. I'm excited for next season because I think a lot of cool things are set up so 🤞 ||

Yerin is one of strongest Heralds but heralds keeping up Monarch... even wirh other stuff there, I didn't think it was possible. Like Fury himself fought multiple sages and heralds and hr was a new monarch.

Powder Mage 1 || Loving that the plot progression is quick. Like it doesn't feel too quick or over the top exposition dumping. Maybe I just grew resilient or maybe its the writing style or prose.
But like at just 10% of book 1, I learned about the current economic and social condition of their country, where they stand and their relation with one another country, existence of different kimd of magic users and magic (as there was something else he mentioned, I forgot the name exactly) and different factions in their government, and none of those felt exposition heavy at all ||

Powder mage 1/First Law ||That's what I was missing. There was something familiar i couldn't exactly place earlier, that's it. The way characters are written is also a little like first law, and as i have mentioned before the character work really is very strong in powder imo. And i have always said First Law has probably the best character writing I have ever read||

Powder Mage 1 || wouldn't say prose is his strong point, at least yet. It isn't bad, but yeah its just there. Much like Sanderson's prose. ||

||Like to make a comparison with recent stuff or stuff I like, it doesn't flow as fast as Cradle's, neither is as expressive as Farseers or fun as Kingkillers. It has a balance, hasn't been clunky or flowery, but not something that sticked out ||

Like Farseer || it was so evocative right from the start. It conveyed bleakness quite well and even from early on, there are a lot lines that stood out due to thr same purpose.

Powder mage 1 ||Hmm i find the balance he strikes to be the impressive part actually. It never gets too descriptive or too quick, and yeah while it could use a coat of polish, for a first work it is very impressive.||

Powder mage 1 ||Like idk how to explain, for me it's the type of prose I like most. Something as fast as cradle becomes kind of hard to follow at times because of it's nature, and things like LoTR or Farseer have significant stretches where you have to just push through to get to the next part. Powder Mage is a lot more stable and consistent in that sense||
