I don’t watch at AMC anyways
it's only theatre around p sure ;;
There’s a Cinemark like a good 20 minutes away from me
Has reclining seats, is smaller than the amc that’s around my area so I prefer going there
closest cinemark is 2 hours away it seems
we got nice seats at amc but people that go to amc are apes
will never forget the dude that started smokin week at end game then called a guy a slur for askin him nicely to stop talkin every 5 seconds

I actually went to an amc recently and had a nice experience. Mainly because it was a weekday, late at night, to watch an anime movie
Only 3 people in the theater including me
thats when its a good experience
has anyone read and watched shadow and bone
@brave orbit @rich meadow @magic bloom ?
I haven't no
no
WoR ||Shattered plains and chasm looks cool. I really want to see a SA adaptation now.
||
watched yes
read no
heard book its different than show
Soon
thats what i wanted to know
can you read the rest of the trilogy after watching shadow and bone
i heard the show was as good or better than the novel
so i was just making sure
ill still watch it and maybe read from start or book 2
Which movie did you go see?
Mr robot 108 ||i fucking knew robot was his dad||
||i always had the suspicion since the talk at the pier||
was it belle, rob?
if so i was gonna see it too few weeks ago but tested positive for covid
ah nice aint been there in months
maybe i'll talk bout it one day but
summer wars>
ANYWAYS
I mean-
you aren't wrong I fully enjoyed Summer Wars much more than like any Chizu films
🚶
made a tierlist of hosoda films maybe i;ll put it in os
Starting to read the John Carter books
really liked the john carter movie
wish we got another one
this probably would of been a cool ass movie
alot of missed opportunities here
Sad hill unearthed

Belle
Oh someone mentioned it lol sorry was busy with things
Dude empty theater experience might be the wave
Might just do it again late at night

The good place s3 e4 ||excuse me, Jason kissed a what and he got what into what?
||
@brave orbit finished part 4
Gonna read some more then give my thoughts in length
Will definitely finish the book tomorrow tho
Been reading around 120-150 pages per day
can we take a moment to appreciate that teen titans go was able to air a scene of robin telling kids to ask their parents where babies come from

RoW part 4 ending ||YOU CANNOT HAVE MY SACRIFICE ||
does anyone in here watch euphoria?
I do too
Was a good episode
Book of boba finale time
Book of boba finale/ clone wars|| goodbye soldiers ||
|| incredible finale, loved every second the rancor was fucking amazing and so cool, chad bane still out speeding boba even in his old age (moneys on him not being dead again) mando and grogu were the sweetest thing ever so happy they’re back, but man do i miss the 2 guards, krrsanton was great ||
|| boba and mando on jetpacks kicking ass was too cool ||
Book of Boba Fett finale ||Cant believe Filoni actually killed off one of his OCs lol was cool too see Bane out dueling Boba as an old man even if he did end up getting shanked||
RoW part 4 ending ||Honestly one of my favorite chapters of the book. I really love this Adolin trial thing. Adolin is already one of my favorites because he’s a spin on the “stuck up prince” trope. He’s actually one of the kindest and most honorable characters in the series. Pretty wholesome how he can view his deadeye spren that’s hardly able to communicate or function as a friend. And love the way the trial goes. Like I was waiting for Adolin to be able convince them somehow but nope, the spren remain frustratingly obstinate. Then Maya comes in clutch. Also funny how Kelek seems a bit trolley? Like he’s not as poised as you’d think a herald would be lol||
RoW part 4 ending ||Yea kalak is based af tho he still has clear ptsd and panic attacks which the honourspren do try to take advantage of. Also yea Adolin is really great in this book and i really like how Shallan's deadeye played out. I actually didnt even see it coming but it makes so much sense in retrospect lol
Also also, rip Veil 😔 ||
RoW part 4 ending ||What did you think about raboniel's motivation reveal btw?||
RoW part 4 ending ||Oh yeah, so Shallan had bonded a cryptic before Pattern?!?!?! Did not see that coming at all. But iirc, it makes sense because pattern couldn’t properly remember or reflect on the events of killing her mother… but turns out it wasn’t even him. Crazy. And yeah rip Veil. But has she just been absorbed into Shallan’s personality? Was kinda confused by what happened to her. Because formless was just Shallan who was trying to deal with her past.||
RoW part 4 ending ||haha thought it was incredibly sweet. Brandon definitely wanted readers to think she was leaning to a more sinister motive but the fact that the main motivation was to free her daughter from madness was endearing. She still wants to use anti-voidlight to destroy the radiants and their spren so not like she’s just not an antagonist at all, but still sweet||
RoW part 4 ending ||Yea the way to treat DID is through reintegration (or some other term" of the identities and thats basically what happened, but rip veil 😔
At the end of words of radiance pattern tries to get her to acknowledge what was locked up in the safebox after her father dies so i think the original cryptic was there||
Oh yeah true
Book of boba finale || RIP Cad Bane ||
RoW part 4 ending ||Cool how the cryptic deadeye that Adolin meets in that shop during OB was Shallans first spren. ||
Kick Ass Book 1
||Rereading one of my favorite series.||
The Sandman is good, that is all
@modern lichen
I didn’t have many thoughts regarding Sandman tbh, I liked it and could list you things I liked but I felt a bit detached from the story. Was much more invested in tank girl surprisingly lol.
Oh damn
Understandable
The Sandman is my favourite comic period
So i have a certain bias towards it
I do suggest you read Blacksad, which I think mentioned to you before
Sandman ||My favorite bit was the distant mirrors section, I think ||
And yeah I’ll check it out at some point, still have that issue of there being very few prominent romance graphic novels/comics so I’ve not been reading them as much
Yeah
I wonder how that'll be
Check their Instagram page the casting is very cool
Who’s doing it?
Netflix, I see
Hopefully they don’t cancel it
Since they kinda do that to everything
Should be interesting
I do suggest checking their Instagram or Twitter page if you wanna see the casting

The good place s3 e9 ||if the last person that entered heaven was 521 years from 2018, the year would be 1497, and nothing actually happened that year that is actually interesting and I just wasted yours and my time both

Finished Oathbringer
||Loved a lot especially the last fight and avengers assemble hehe
||
Will start last book next week onwards
Cant resist to end this series
I suggest dawnshard first
Ia was thinking of reading summary in wiki
the novella between book 3 and 4
It spoils a lot still, even outside stormlight
Is it also big book?
Nah it's short
It's like 39k words
Thats cool
a normal stormlight novel is 410k
Every book is too big
Yea they were made to be big
first arc ends on book 5 tho
In for a long ride
and he is taking a break from the series after book 5
then they will be released every 3 years
Same
Lol
The gameshow?
the books are good idk about the show heard some good opinions
Show was rushed i heard so thought of trying books
Bt so many books
If its good like Stormlight worth a try though else idk
ye wanted to read it after seeing many peeps here talkin about it
Same
I think it's a bit harder than stormlight
afaik
They way of kings is the first book in stormlight ? Imma start it now
I’m just waiting for the show to get better than I’ma bounce on it
im trying to watch the last kingdom
has anyone watched it?
it fast paced or just me
||the first 30 minutes danes invaded , they went to war , his dad died, time skip and hes an adult|| the last kingdom
@brave orbit the good place s3 e11 ||so you were right, it was because the almonds, it really was the almonds
the single person who was right about the flaw for the very start was the most innocent and also the most tortured dude||

Peacemaker || I'm sure the show is good but what the fuck kinda dialogue is this bro 😭 ||
|| https://mobile.twitter.com/KyloCool630/status/1489654386179678214 ||
(4 pictures for mobile users)
Peacemaker || the type of dialogue people share online for free ||
Found a terrible take in the replies
The dialogue is very twitter-y
Peacemaker ||someone says simp and pretty sure there is an intentional among us joke||😭😭😭
Ok, Peacemaker || she apparently gets yelled at for saying that in the show ||
No

I haven't started this show just because of her, I've seen her dialogue in the trailers and I'm not sure if I will be capable of standing it lmao
she's a cool character lol
makes sense in the scene
All right gotcha
Peacemaker ||dumbassery of a dialogue, it's what it is. gets the people going||
Peacemaker ||Her character is whatever for now. I'm seeing her evolution with great interest tho. Casual nepotism beneficiary, her death will be welcomed by me with open arms - I have no idea if it will happen||
Jimmy Kimmel on the #OscarNoms — “You’re telling me ‘Don’t Look Up’ was better than #NoWayHome, It most certainly was not… Why do best picture nominees have to be serious? When did that become a prerequisite for getting nominated for an #Oscar?
(Source: https://t.co/jkSiWSwwJh)
514
5194

are people really going to debate this
I agree with don't look up being there doesn't make any sense but why would no way home be nominated for best picture?
Because it's a better written mcu film
this is where the intellectuals stopped reading
dude literally couldn't read
Still funny
disagree
Well I should clarify
By better written I mean better written than a lot of other mcu films
I haven't seen don't look up and I don't plan on it
eh I guess
it is kinda shitty imo, works for the comedy if you turn off your brain
literally lmao
it's not that good
there's a lot of other films who kinda deserved at least a nom
like The Green Knight or the French Dispatch
God
I fucking remember that
I had called Moonlight getting Best Picture
They said La La Land iirc
Then they were like OH SHIT
Oops
if you compare it to mcu films yeah sure, but not the other movies that came out the same year tho
Eh
I think it's a pretty great film, maybe the "fanservice" aspect of it distracts from how good the writing is
Still haven't seen green knight or french dispatch though
I will as soon as I get some time
I'm trying to remember the better movies from that year and I'm drawing a blank slightly
eh I aint seeing that
Most of the films I really enjoyed weren't in theaters
No problem
I didn't like Tom Holland spiderman movies as much as everyone else did before this
I understand people not wanting to watch
no that's not what I mean lmao
best movie of 2021 is pig
I aint seeing how spider man has that good of a writing
Also fine
I eat the MCU shit all day dude, I am up to date with the spoilers like a true degen
That probably makes sense because I don't like the mcu that much tbh lol
I'm a marvel fan more than an mcu fan
I used to love marvel, but could never like the fact the comics make no sense
returning timelines, reboots, remakes, rethis, rethat
this is why you should only read ultimate spiderman (2000)
all new, all different, nope, this is the new different, now the next different and new
Yeah marvel and dc comics can be a challenge for that
I think when you have that type of format it's the general idea of the characters that needs to shine more than anything
Even when the stories come and go

I don't love spiderman because of any particular runs, even though I obviously have ones I like. I love him because of how much writers have added to him over the years
And his general character
i never even seen you in this channel before stoop lmao
Yeah it's kind of fun I didn't realize how long it's been since I've seen him
So close yet so far
Peacemaker || I’m actually not a big fan of her falling in love with peacemaker but it is what it is ||
||adebayo?? the lesbian??? you thinkin of harcourt or whatever her name is?|| peacemaker
|| nah I mean adebayo.. she’s like catching feeling for him now || peacemaker
peacemaker ||WHAT? LMAOOOOOOO did I miss an episode today?||
||to me it feels more like she's really sympathizing with a maniac and it's weird for her and everyone|| peacemaker
|| maybe it’s just that but she def seems hella compromised in the head… like she feels unease when she talks to her mate || peacemaker
||bc she feels a bond with him bc he wants to really change and is makin an effort plus she feels like she's betraying him and she's a very kind person|| peacemaker
|| yeah maybe that’s all it is.. I can see if him getting with harcourt making her feel uncomfortable for some reason tho || peacemaker
Its no Cmon Cmon
||Shes gay😭|| peacemaker
||if anyone is its harcourt||
Which would be a lame storyline too tbh
any movie in black and white after the year 2020 is lame
Yeah I don’t want that either
its true the lighthouse will never be topped
as far as i know ive only seen like >15 movies from 2021
got a few lined up i need to see though
last duel, green knight, licorice pizza, last night in soho
Passing is good (despite the Oscar snub)
never heard of it
It’s about an African American woman and her relationship with a childhood friend who “passes” as white
I believe it’s based off a book
i heard its pretty good

RoW part 5 major spoilers ||NOOOOOOO NOT TEFT. GOD NO PLEASE NO FUCK YOU MOASH AGHHHH YOU MOTHERFUCK NOOOOO||
do you guys think that The Batman will be better or worse than the nolan trilogy?
RoW part 5 ||Tell yourself that lie, Moash, but know this. You can kill me, but you can't have what I have. You can never have it. Because I die knowing I'm loved||
||God this is truly tragic||
RoW part 5 ||I cannot fucking wait for Kaladin vs Moash now||
row part 5 || yea elhokar was tough for me already, he was killed while holding his kid, almost turning into a radiant and clutching the drawin shallan made for him and now this. Moash is just a giga cunt ||
RoW part 5 ||Can't wait for the battle of champions. I'm assuming Moash will be Odium's if it actually ends up happening like that, and obviously Kaladin will be Honor's/Dalinar's. I'm glad Moash keeps stacking up all these dick moves, gonna make the payoff so satisfying||
row part 5 || it's funny because I have a feeling brando will do something unexpected ||
me too actually
row part 5 ||I think it will play out unexpectedly. But still need that Kaladin vs Moash (if it doesn't happen in the 100 pages I have left lol)||
row part 5 || some people saying odium will bring fused gavilar as his champion
||
RoW p5||😭 😭 ||
are you gonna finish today evan?

I ain’t stopping
RoW ending don't click Evan ||Idk why I get the feeling Dalinar is gonna be his own/honor's champion. I am not sure if I came up with this or if the ending revealed it||
Don't click that evan

@copper phoenix can you clarify 😂😂
clarify what
RoW ending ||did the ending reveal it or is that my headcanon?||
row ending || yea I'm not sure where you got this from lol but fused dalinar is a common "theory" ||
Ahh okay
Is euphoria any good ?
It's my own thoughts cz I don't really read anything about stormlight outside the books
I want this to be as untouched an experience as possible
Stormlight is sacred
some theories are really good tho
Can't let nutheads on reddit ruin it
feels like spoilers
yea I try to avoid but the discussions are fun
I feel like it's a big part of the experience
Honestly I sometimes feel getting involved with discussions and stuff on series without completing them ruins the experience a little bit
That includes OP tbh
except when they go 5head in realmatic theory
But it's different since it's weekly and not like one book every 3-4 years
Novels for me are sacred
Never discuss details about them until you're done with them
At least not theories and stuff

I don't wanna get into theory crafting and stuff, just relish the experience as it comes. And besides, most discussions like that are overwhelmingly nutters with a sprinkle of few good ones
Not worth it for me
I sometimes feel it was a mistake to get into OP community too 😂😂
Why would they do this after a perfect finale

As if matt groneing needs mord
once this reboots of original series end
what will the new series be about?
reboots of reboots?
bob saget's cause of death was revealed to be head trauma, he accidentally hit his head on something, thought nothing of it, then went to sleep
RIP
Damn
Oh I’m just going off of what fate said
Reboot
So it’s just continuing off of the finale… ?
Weird
theyve done it before
except this time they had a proper finale
one of the best ones really
there is stories you could do without retroactivly ruining the finale but idk why you would
RoW Part 5 major spoilers ||NAVANI’S A RADIANT LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO. GET FUCKED MOASH “JOURNEY BEFORE DESTINATION YOU BASTARD”
||
i no longer like barry
Can’t wait
why
dislike all the supporting cast and the general direction of the plot
what episode are you on
i do kinda agree with the first point cause i didnt care about any characters except for the 2 leads
but i didnt care that much
what dont you like about the general direction of the plot
im curious
barry || The attention given to the acting class and the friends there, the chechyans still being around for so long, the fbi/cop part. also feel like theyre just abandoning the aspects of barrys life that made it seem interesting, his shitty apartment, the man manipulating him, now he's just chilling in LA doing stuff. ||
you are tough audience. I watched it only for laughs.
barry ||i found the acting class being the most interesting tbh, also season 2 focuses very heavily on barry and fuches relationship||
Barry is great. ||All of your grievances are addressed. 🙂||
barry season 2 ||ronnie/lily is one of favourite episodes of tv, insane storytelling||
Nothing new there

I don't care about the revival anyways so oh well

Futurama is back?
it never should've ended lol
Yes, but also, why, but also is ok, it had a lot of time to age new ideas, not like the Simpson tho
p sure he just doesnt wanna do it
ah only saw 1 tweet and wasn't from him
that's a game changer
wonder if he wanted more money or sumn
Warbreaker ch 31 ||
man..... so amazing. just.. so good
i already cried once. that scene with Siri and Susebron. when he presented that story book to Siri and wanted her to teach him...
man it just... i didn't think i'd cry but i did. The fact that Susebron is being manipulated by his priests but he still thinks they are good men
and the fact that he doesn't have a tongue?? felt so unexpected man. the Siri and Susebron bedroom scenes are my favourite now. just so much emotion there.
Vivenna having her ideals challenged
ooof. her realisation that the people of her country were breaking Austrism rules. good stuff. plus her conversation with Jewels is the best conversation in the book for me so far. What Jewels said was just...
can't help but feel amazed by it. it was a pretty powerful scene and i just absolutely loved it.
Lightsong and Blushweaver always have some of the best interactions lol. those two are really funny together. wonder who Lightsong was in the past though. probably a detective/police officer with a history in sailing maybe? my guess is he worked as a police officer/detective and grew up in a boatwork related household.
but ye, i already love this book. i might buy the physical. i love this thing about this book where right when a scene reaches it's climax the book goes on into a completely unrelated scene. like Siri/Susebron bedroom scene to maybe a Vivenna scene where she's meeting someone. Like i get mildly annoyed by how the scenes changed so suddenly but like I would then get interested in the new scene. it happens in other books i've read but it's somehow more noticeable here. mad respect to Sanderson for having a lot of different characters and managing to make then all interesting and engaging to read
can't wait to read the rest ||
@brave orbit
sums it up.
maybe he was demanding too much
Well, it was a poor choice, most of the revivals are successful only because they manage to get the original cast
how they gonna say we're back baby and not even have bender's voice
just dont do it
Thats the point of revivals eitherway
for sure
don't the cast of simpsons make some outrageous 6 figure amount per episode
according to google yeah
I love that woman to death but her taste in media is completely countercurrent to mine, bar games
lol
BOO

And I legit cannot stand musicals
nah thats just a brain issue on your end balkan
if musicals were a person i'd be on death row
musicals are great
some musicals are good
reminds me i should finish tick tick boom
watch the book of mormon balkan
Centaur world
tick tick boom is pretty good
I'd watch book of Mormon
But on principle now
I'll never ever watch Hamilton
I listened to the fucking soundtrack for 6 striaght months on drives
I wanted to blow my brains out
I can't do hamilton
alexander hamilton is like the most boring founding father
Here's the thing
You guys won't get this and that's fine
Hate musicals
Love opera
🤷
yeah that doesn't make sense

you should try rock opera musicals like Rent
The singing is much less annoying to me
That's even worse for me I'm sorry
I can do Les miserables
That's it
now i'm really confused
Not the movie tho
I hate hairspray
hairspray the movie was just ok for me.. but i heard the actual show is good
And 2 or 3 good singers
I just found out that Apu is removed from the Simpsons?
i dont think so
most indian movies are musicals but i prefer those over english musicals
western musicals are a bit superficial for my taste
hank azaria is not voicing apu anymore
thats about it
Nah he wasn’t removed, his former VA just quit because he believes the character is an offensive caricature
they were going to, but then they changed VA
actually what do you think about that @modern lichen
do you think it was necessary?
i dont care
you wouldn't have minded if the VA stayed the same?
i lost interest in the simpsons a long time ago
no i like that azaria stepped down and apologised
i dont know, without getting controversial, I think it's okay for voice actors to play their part even if its a bit of a stereotype
apu still exists so doesnt make much of a difference
VA is the only job in the media business of its kind where it doesnt really matter what you look like or where it comes from
like mario is played by a french guy, i dont think that's a bad thing
i dont think that is the point here, the writing and the direction for the voice is
its a bad caricature
no one said anything about hank azaria
that's fair i guess
I think in early simpsons apu was actually a really good caricature but in later seasons it got pretty bad..
The term flanderization was invented after the Simpsons for a reason
a caricature is a caricature ya know
Did they change him or he didn’t wanna do it
im not sure sorri, but he doesnt seem very happy about it so who knows
Writing got poor and uninteresting so people started to fill the holes in the plots themselves
check out the documentary "the problem with apu"
that is the catalyst for all of this
good
How do you feel about Apu, Harsh?
he exists i guess
hang on, i think i watched a rebuttal to that documentary a while ago by a cartoonist on youtube
he was ok in the initial seasons when the writing of the simpsons was sharp and the satire was actually good
I fell off the simpsons like back in 2006 or so
okay so harsh,
i think my problem with that mindset is that comparatively Apu is probably a good caricature of indian culture because everything in the simpsons is like a microcosm of american culture
homer is a much worse depiction of caucasian people
Thats the key word, american culture
that's why i mentioned
when the satire was good, he was ok
the writing just nosedived, so did his character
that's true
I don't know much about the Apu dilemma, but I've noticed that this kind of discussion are more relevant in the places where the production is made than the places mentioned
But, also could be that Harsh don't want to discuss a very entangled problem and i think is also valid
Or sometimes the answer is not that deep
||Now THAT was a Boba Fett episode|| Book of Boba Fett ep 7
||Very satisfying from all points. Finally we got to see Boba kick some major ass|| TBOBF Ep 7
@broken fossil did you watch the season finale yet?
not yet about to right now tho
So since the series is over i can say I’ve really enjoyed it overall
Except for a certain episode
loved the show overall, about to watch ep 7, but ||also love how boba fett got a gang of npc's from cyberpunk 2077 as his lackeys|| book of boba fett
yeah that was my least favorite too
might start boba
Other than that I really enjoyed every episode
This is the last book of boba peacemaker and one piece week
as in thursday night yeah?

akways get it mixed up
ikr 😦
we need to find new weekly series
sure some disney property will be out soon enough
well moon knight is next month
and that too lol
Bad batch was so bad
that's gonna be hype
Bobf finale/clone wars || hope we get a live action boba bane prequel series since we never got it in clone wars ||
boba fett was pretty bad too
Bad batch was very good
too much nothing
Id rather have it animated
Tbh
the deleted scenes were
I would too
Yea
Disney isnt putting much care into their star wars projects
Bad batch || yeah it had some filler (i did enjoy it) the none filler stuff was absolutely incredible ||
Nothing impressed me besides Rogue One, Solo, TLJ, or the final arc of TCW S7
it'll pick up in the next year or so
Kenobi will be great.. then Mando s3
and I like bad batch so I'm looking forward to season 2
Not mando?
Nah
Im not a huge fan
It had good production quality but same issue i had with the bad batch
thats like half of everything theyve released
half good things isnt a good track record
Bad batch || https://youtu.be/qyp2Q63zpGA || || man this was such an incredible moment ||

More gun fight guys, as Cad Bane now duels Fennec this time!!
Yea
Bad batch ||this was cool but then he got humiliated next episode lmao||
bad batch || that's cause Fennec's a boss ||
Bad batch || man this was cool ||
Bad batch/book of boba big spoils || love that cad bane makes all his entrances shitting on a cool character ||
My main issue with the bad batch and the Mandalorian ||is that while there may be good stuff in there there are so many episodes of nothing i didnt care for. Both shows were episodic asf which doesnt really work that well with this little episodes||
Its kinda apparent in filonis other stuff
Like clone wars
||then gets shit on||😭😭😭
bobf latest || yeah and he even went out beating Boba in a quick draw.. i really liked that ||
so you're kind of my prime example of issues I have with some star wars fans lol
what is tjat
Bobf latest || 70 year old chad bane beating the shit out of boba ||
they think every thing needs to be super focused on the end game of the story without any focus on just general story and character development
I think its cause they're used to everything being in a movie
An episode where the characters do nothing substantial is not interesting
Bad batch || also I don’t really feel like cad bane got humiliated by fennec ||
No episode of like breaking bad has the characters just do something unrelated to their personal arcs or the main plot
but the dialog still counts and you need those moments to build an actual story
ok what? breaking bad had hella boring episodes lmao
Thats just not true
@brave orbit @copper phoenix @scenic frost finished RoW
So did mando then
I dont see why i should care ab mando ||delivering eggs or helping a random village||
yeah but I don't complain about slow episodes cause I understand that sometimes stories need to slow down in order to build up... its like any show
Its not slow though
Its just nothing
Slow would mean things are happening just at a slow pace
row ending || thoughts on todium? ||
its just gaps where nothing happens then we get a plot centered episode
huh? things are literally happening in the episode
nothing substantial
so its not nothing.. you just dont find it important cause your end game oriented
it literally has zero impact on anything
where people who watch it for development understand those moments
there js no development
there is you just don't get it
its all demonstrating their personalities and character traits.. you just dont care
and wanna see what happens with the direct story going on
that's good and all but simp af
what js the point of doing this with meaningless tasks
and its fine.. some star wars fans hate b plots
cause they need to make money.. you just assume they have it already and shouldn't be wasting time. But we need to see that they have to make money to survive and how they interact with their clients and deal with their missions is exposure and development
you just dont give a shit.. and its fine
lol
Like yes they need to do that but what is the purpose
Everything should have a purpose in a story
for us to connect
again that can be done naturally without what is essentially filler
you only think its filler cause its not contributing to the overrall story line
Im not the biggest fan of episodic format tjough
and thats how star wars fans be and its annoying
If it doesnt contribute whats the point
thats like saying all of oden flashback is filler cause it has nothing to do with whats going on
im watching an 8 episode season
It contextualizes the arc
and gives emotional backstories
that's the point of seeing B plot stories
to get the same context
in a different manner outside of the main arc
Mando ||delivering eggs|| does not contextualize anything
its a very normal and natural thing to expect since you can't always assume they're just balls to wall on the direct mission
like they gotta eat and piss sometimes too

He still wants to save them right? Or is there more going on that I didn't quite understand||

I'm going to elaborate on this now.
RoW end spoilers
||I went into this book wary of how the series had handled mental health in the past; book two really upset me during that scene of Syl outright stating that the basis of becoming a Radiant was filling a crack created by a mental illness or some other majorly traumatic event (this was particularly apparent in the main cast, who are all immensely "cracked"), and I was hoping the series would drift away from that sort of romanticization. Let me clarify a bit actually, when I say "romanticization", I mean the sense that mental illness is incurred on victims within the story purely for the romantic process of recovery to a greater state. This is basically the crux of the series, this path of self-improvement through troubling times, and man does it get tiring after a while...
Brandon does know that to use this manner of portrayal in a somewhat realistic way, the story a needs proper foil; something like a large cast of people who either failed to recover from their mental illness, or an intentionally tedious journey through which a character (or 3) intimately struggles with their mental health (he displays both). But when the "journey" keeps repeating and we get these cycles of what feel like never-ending mental sagas for the sake of a rather hollow and somewhat clinical approach to its portrayal, it begins to feel more like misery porn than anything else.
This is why I am mixed on it, because while he certainly did his research into the persistence of mental illness, characters like Shallan were extremely hard to not skim past; not due to a trigger I have or her issues being "too relatable", but because the approach was SO unadorned that it left me wondering if much of the meandering spent detailing her thought processes was necessary to hammer home the point... realism for the sake of realism is not welcome, imo. Like, I can appreciate an author for tackling a "real" issue such as mental illness, but the book was released in late 2020; there is hardly a shortage of representation at this point, and I have read many series who portray realistic depictions without directly hammering it down your throat. Anyways, I still enjoyed the SA as a whole, RoW just brought some issues I have with it to the surface. ||
RoW end spoilers above ^
ROW ending ||I can understand what you mean, but I disagree.
I feel Brandon wants to stay true to the clinical definitions of the characters but tries to make an interesting narrative around those issues.
What I think is great about how stormlight tackles it is how the actual personal struggles of the main character and overcoming them -- even temporarily -- rewards both the characters and the audience, which creates a lot of the main climactic moments, so it's not just representing the mental health issues but also about making you relate to them.
About Stormlight, that is one way to overcome it. Not only it makes yourself turn into how you picture yourself (which is where the damage healing comes from), but it makes them be more aware of the mental issues and the struggles coming from it, leading them to get better in the process, and I feel that more than warrants having it be hammered down that much.
In a way, I think the mental health focus expands the classic fantasy hero into something way more personal into a fantasy setting, which is something i really like and makes it better over other representation||
fed has awoken
row ending || I can totally see why people might feel things get repetitive, I just don't think it's "realism for the sake of realism". I really like the way it's portrayed and how it's intrinsically linked not only to their personal growth but also their powerlevel in the form of radiant oaths||
row ending || but yea I don't blame people for getting tired of the repetitiveness ||
row ending and cosmere general || also the crack thing is literally something from the magic system where investiture fills in the cracks of souls after traumatic events ||
It wont die
Book of Boba finale ||Its nice seeing them flaunt their budget but also hated the choreography
Absolutely seeth and when people run out of cover to stand in the open shooting at others doing the same. Can any show manage good gunplay?
||
||In regards to what you said about allowing the reader to relate to the characters, I am completely capable and have in the past done so with stories that do not go SO deep into the disorders displayed. In fact, the lengths at which it went to in order to describe the issues present diminished the feelings for me, and made it feel more as if my experiences (as someone who has dealt with periods of severe mental illness) were being tokenized in order to facilitate a reaction in the reader. ||
||"About Stormlight, that is one way to overcome it...||
||I realize there are more ways to overcome it (Lopen displayed this), but Brandon obviously focused far more on mental health because it makes for a more compelling narrative, so it doesn't really apply to what I'm saying given I was analyzing. ||
||"but it makes them be more aware of the mental issues and the struggles coming from it, leading them to get better in the process, and I feel that more than warrants having it be hammered down that much."||
||I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I don't quite get the connection between letting Shallan ramble for 10s of pages at a time is essential for me to understand her plight. A lot of it could certainly be trimmed down without making me feel the entire situation is romanticized. ||
||Of course this is all IMO so if you feel the amount was either sufficient or necessary than by all means, that's your prerogative and I have no reason to debate that||
ok there we go
ROW ending above^
the tags are kinda fucky lol
tagging quotes is near impossible for me
||When I say "realism for the sake of realism", I am referring to how I felt in regards to the length the concepts were dwelled upon. Especially in Shallan's case, I could not see the value in extending her episodes outside of to portray her character in a hyperspecific way, and that to me is what I was speaking towards.
Also, I get that the crack thing is the basis of power, but that she said "they were all broken when we found them" was what gave me the notions of romanticizing the recovery from mental illness through "finding yourself!"||
RoW end^
ROW ending ||I think this is mostly coming down to subjective reading experience. When I open a stormlight book I expect a lot of slow buildup to a bombastic finale, which applies to most of the books (except ROW). I don't think there is a necessary amount of pages shallan should get, but I do know that I found her chapters the most interesting because of the way she is always immersed in her own world while still trying to do some good and then getting kicked back until she got adolin's outsider help fascinates me a lot in terms of how they are written. I do think I would feel differently if I struggled with anxiety myself (Not DID tho, because that one is still so rarely well portrayed anywhere afaik)||
row end || shallan and her chapters are a controversial topic, I have seen many people with the same complaints as juba. It didn't bother me much but I also felt it was going on for too long. I've even seen the same complaints about kaladin too, except that his chapters are way more interesting to me||
RoW ||Kaladin was more normally portrayed to me, the folks I've seen complain about him are mostly mad that he didn't accept the ridiculous amount of help he was given. And while I do think his support group was unrealistically large, it was sort of the point to present that juxtaposition in order to hammer home the seriousness of his condition. ||
||I expect the same, and it's certainly subjective, I just know that I felt it was simply too much. And DID is one of the more romanticized disorders for how mundane it actually is IRL lol. Like, there are some very out there cases, but what happens to most DID patients is that have a few slightly different personas that are more like hyper-moods, and said personalities rarely if ever interact. People just switch between them and don't notice that they have or that they're any different. ||
||They are more like different voices in the head, idk if you would count that as interacting ||
row || I have no complaints about kaladin either, I've been there and I know how it feels so it really hit home ||
||I mean interacting in a sense of existing in one's mind" at the same time. It's basically "hollywood DID"||
||There might be very little people who experience that, but i do know that happens||
row || also iirc brandon said he wasn't going for your usual DID with shallan, he really wanted something not completely realistic ||
||yeah, my point is it's not what actually represents the condition, but is exclusively what media shows the condition as. Similar to schizophrenia in a way||
not sure if I can find his interview but I'll try
RoW ||Yea its more integrated with the magic||
||yeah, that makes sense, and I'm fine with it anyways. It wasn't really the reason it upset me anyways ||
row || "I feel it's as close as I can get to realism, while the same time acknowledging that as a fantasy author, one of my primary goals is to explore the human interaction with the supernatural. The "What ifs" of magic. What if a person who had suffered a great deal of abuse as a child COULD create a mask for themselves, changing themselves into someone stronger (or more street-smart who wouldn't have been betrayed that way. Would they do it, and hide behind that mask? What would that do to them and the world around them?" ||
||schizophrenia really gets the short stick in media though lmao (not this book), it has a horrible stigma due to the "schizo murderer" trope when in reality it's a broad range of various psychotic disorders ||
yea mental health in general is a tough topic because it can easily turn into trope but when it's done well it can turn into some amazing stuff

Not me trying to listen to music but my teacher is showing us an episode of The Office for a music lesson
Jeez the costume design
Because of Bezos’s immense wealth, The Rings of Power is actually less of a financial risk than it is a reputational one.

bezos's immense wealth sounds so funny
It's not even that even if it's cringe
it's just a stupid statement lol, like any series they'd rather it just be good and cost efficient instead of sinking tons of cash into it
if anything, it's more of a reputational risk due to the LOTR prestige, not because of "Bezos's immense wealth"
yea I didn't even read I just wanted to see the pictures
lotr f*ns are already seething tho
He could have bothered using some of that on the WoT if he cared about reputation instead of one being 5 times more lmao
I made the mistake of going to twitter first
Yikes
Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power
lotr is just way bigger than wot, we're lucky it's getting an adaptation at all

2009, Tarantino interview with Sky Movies about his favourite movies.
- Battle Royale (his favourite and number one!!
(Dir. Kinji Fukasaku 2000).
Ps. The other movies are in alphabetic order - Anything Else (Dir. Wood Allen 2003).
- Audition (Dir. Takashi Miike 1999).
- The ...
Huh I can see why Tarantino love battle royale
If he were to recreate it (the concept at least) it's gonna be nuts
But a lot of movies already copied it so chances are he won't do it
yeah, its way too late now
we've had the likes of hunger games, squid games, etc since then

Ohh yeah nah… def ain’t as good as Got
it just moves way too fast
only 4 episodes in and so much stuff has happend
its also underwhelming everything is on a much smaller scale
its just the first season so im gonna try to finish it first
Yeah it’s not like game of thrones which has more build up and all the different players, last kingdom is really just about uhtred
But it’s also adventurous and can be emotional at times. Also the battle scenes are good
yeah
also theres much less politics
i havnt seen much about the danes at all
its just uhtred and alfred
alfred is the only character i like
BCS
Yeah it gets a little more political later on || with the king succession and such || (sorry idk which season) but it’s not that much
Can we please put these “two part final season” to rest
yeah ima drop it
gonna watch power, vikings or lord of the rings
Yea sopranos too. I don’t really get it
Word maybe come back to it later or something, Powers one my favorite shows
I’ve never seen Vikings but I heard it’s good and LOTR is a must
I think it makes sense, rather than waiting for all the episodes to be edited just get the early ones out of the way and airing them
Yeah from that perspective it makes sense
yeah been avoiding lotr
cause its old and i dont like watching older shows/movies
but the animation isnt too bad
Are you talking about the lotr trilogy?
Yeahh
You think its “old”?
Lol 2001-2003 is like before some people here were even born
The word you might be thinking is classic
i consider anything before like 2010 old
Old movies for me are from 1960 and afterwards
Old is before like 95 for me lol
yeah to me thats old old
i dont think before 2010 like super old
just a little
tbf when i started watching tv it was probably like 2008 - now
how old are you
damn 3 hour movies, i thought they were short but thats not bad ig
According to this, movies from 1900 must be ancient
Yeah i only watch them now with deleted scenes so that’s closer to 4 hours
murderville is fun lol
RoW Ending ||This is an interesting outlook. I will admit I don't seem to have experienced a lot of these issues myself during my readthrough, so I want to make sure I am not misconstruing what you're saying in any way.
I liked how Brandon committed to the realism of the conditions themselves (outside of maybe Shallan who I think is a big outlier and I will address in a sec) while also having the big climactic resolution to some of these issues be fantastical. As in, saying oaths and becoming radiant. So I don't have an issue with the main powerups being linked to the person being broken. I think it's a nice way of addressing perhaps the core problems of their predicaments and also emerging as a better person (in quite a literal sense) after the fact. In that regard, it's unrealistic. In the real world, one does not overcome their mental illness with a supernatural reward. For a lot of people, it's an arduous process of erratic ups and downs of suffering. But I think it works in a story like this because of the hopeful sentiment it provides to the reader.
Now in terms of the romanticization I do somewhat agree in a few aspects. There are times where the mental health subject matter lacks a certain subtlety to it imo. While I wasn't as bothered by the way Shallan was written, there were a few issues I had. It wasn't really about the realism of Shallan's DID for me, because as spice said, even Brandon stated he probably went for a more exaggerated interpretation of the condition. But there were times where I did feel a sense of it being "too in your face". I really like Shallan, and there are certain chapters of hers that leave quite a mark on the books such as her conversation with Wit in OB about The Girl Who Looked Up.
But I think overall, especially for characters like Kaladin and Dalinar and even Navani in this latest book, their mental plights leading into some of their biggest moments works well for the series. So I can agree and disagree with your perspective, but definitely respect it.||
AMC announced that the seven-episode Part 1 of “Better Call Saul” Season 6 will premiere on April 18 at 9 p.m. ET. on AMC and AMC Plus. Back-to-back episodes will air that night.
