Bands of Mourning [character arcs] ||The book was excellent. The plot twists were well executed, and the character growth was superb. Highlight of the the book were the romance arcs of Wax and Wayne, and Steris had the best character arc in the series, with me going from "eh Marasi's better" to "holy fuck Steris is the cutest, sweetest, dorkiest woman ever". Wayne crashing a literal water tower on their initial wedding was fucking hilarious, but of course Wayne and MeLaan "being too close to the rails" to hear everyone else nearly dying was joke of the series. Wayne is the most interesting character in the series for me, he's already a very likable scoundrel kinda character, and on top of that we see his relationship with Ranette, MeLaan and Wax more closely and it was a delight to read. Need more of him and the girl whose daddy he killed in the final book. ||

Bands of Mourning [plot] || Now as for the plot, it was done pretty well. The pace at which it moved in New Seran was surprising, not much drama and only a single encounter with the baddies before everything went to shit and they hightailed it Outta there. Wax's sister being a part of the Set was very well done, can't say I saw that one coming and I usually see these things coming. The double decoy with the bands was also nice, though it was kind of obvious someone was gonna find the real bands and revive Wax once he died. Wax and Harmony's interaction was pretty good, with Wax finally accepting what happened to Lessie and who he was. Wayne at the temple was a very good read, him realising MeLaan actually was into him, him reviving her, his reaction to Wax dying, it was beautiful. The airship and the people of the South were a kind of surprise, and ettmetal seems to be very interesting. The showdown between Suit and Wax and brilliant, Steris being the one to save the day at the end with the negotiations with the southern people was a nice surprise. Wax and Steris getting married was a nice way to end the book. I am very curious about what the Set is going to do now, and Sequence being higher than even Set was a nice little surprise in addition to her being a part of the Set. I wonder what it was about the kandra killing Suit at the end there, I though all the kandra were under Harmony's direct influence besides Lessie. Does that mean the Set developed their own Kandra? Or are there more rogue kandra apart from Lessie? Or even worse, is Harmony himself involved with the set? Lots of questions||
