Nevernight: Godsgrave - Completed ||Fantastic and thrilling ending, I was on the edge of my seat til the last word. I'm sooooo happy that Mia killing her fellow gladiatii was just an elaborate ruse with chicken blood/bladders and that she straight up referrred to them as friends finally. And I hope we get more Dona Leona in the next book. Congrats on possible ending all slavery Mia. I think she did at least with the mass poisoning in the arena with Mercurio and Asshlin's help. The only thing I didn't like was the mysterious figure from the beginning of the book being revealed to be Tric; not my cup of tea, it feels better if he stayed dead as consequences to Ash's actions. And now Mia has her baby brother with her and Scaeva is revealed to be both his as well as Mia's father - crazy twist, but Sidonius earlier in their holding cell did say claim Mia's mother was a whore, so.... Well, I really enjoyed this book and look forward to book 3.||

the boys s5e7 / gen v ||really? We're just gonna skip over how homelander didn't kill all of them after taking the v1? Also it felt like the writers were joking a bit about the gen v cast with annie telling them that it was over and that they should just leave. Even if an episode isn't bad like this one and the previous one, they still feel like you got like ... 8 more episodes to go but no!, this is the 2nd last episode of the FINAL SEASON. Also there's no way that fuck ass metal plate is blocking the radiation that is severe enough to leave burn marks on a SUPE within 2 seconds. Also did they just lift that radiation chamber from the old fort to their hideout. Starlight won a fight though, first time in the series so that's awesome.||

The Boys final season ||nothing this season feels conclusive beside Kripke’s obsession with retconning character actions and Jensen Ackles, what’s the deal with Soldier Boy and Stormfront lol, Gen V being cancelled has led to those characters unceremoniously being shunted off to the sidelines and it just doesn’t make sense for the scale of the show to be doing the same shit it’s always been doing even when near the finale ||

The boys 5x7 ||glad frenchie died though, finally someone who dies in the “no one is safe here” show, low bar||

The boys finale / genv ||That marie, kimiko and a couple others are just gonna beat homelander to death. I'm not horribly opposed to the idea.

Firstly I just don't like the fact that they've promoted marie to be an important character in the main story. It just feels weird to me. Like i know she's supposed to be strong asf but Gen V is a spin off, I don't like that a character from gen v is about to be THIS important for the finale of this show.

Secondly, i feel like they've just swept way too much under the rug for me to take this series seriously. Literally the only reason i'll watch the final ep is to see how Homelander dies.

They've failed to utilize Ryan, They've made soldier boy's new appearance a complete rewrite of the character in his actions and behaviors, concluding with turning himself into the ultimate cuck and being put back in his ice box.

What even was the point of Black Noir this season? Sage is a moron. V1 was barely mentioned this episode, literally nothing interesting came out of it other than "welp, guess our virus dont work anymore!" which i mean... sure that was the point but i was still expecting something lol?

I've always wanted the finale of this show to be a bunch of supes beating homelander to death and it seems like that's gonna happen but the way the series is going there just feels outright stupid.||

||Butcher feels like he is completely different more stupid person, Hughie mopes around, MM is just there, Starlight is interesting (which I didn’t think I’d be saying now) and Kimiko is pretty much the worst character assassination in the series with the worst lines and Ryan is just shunted off to the background||

||What happened to the sharp satire of S1-3? Where is the ironic veneer? There’s no cohesion. Story elements introduced before have been led to nowhere land, characters just exist to say their preconceived almost machine like lines and no development of story is occurring, if you’re making a show, you better make episodes that contribute to character and story at tandem with the time only given by the medium of TV, everything feels rushed and inconclusive and it doesn’t feel like there’s any idea how the writers came to the places they’re ending things on||

@jolly ruin Game of Thrones season 3 and One Piece ||I think a great way of redeeming a villain like Akainu is similar to what George did with Jaime Lannister. You think he killed King Aerys (making him the Kingslayer) only to learn he did it to stop this mad king from burning all of King's Landing to the ground. And then George has Jamie's sword hand severed ("I was that hand" he says to Brienne) to boot. He humbles Jamie and simultaneously reveals there is a deeper good in him. This is how you fix the image of a character at least to an extent (he still pushed Bran out the window and continues to has assholish tendencies). Jamie is a great example of morally gray in my opinion. But I'm not sure if Oda can pull off that kind of image fixing for Akainu since he has yet to show those subtle moral conundrums that we find in Jamie Lannister - Akainu is pretty extreme all around. So, I think the best thing we could get is Akainu doing what Jamie did to save King's Landing (maybe Akainu fights alongside the SHs to finish Imu or stop other admirals like GB from causing further harm, etc.), maybe even sacrificing his life to do so. But, who knows, maybe Sabo just kills him in the end lol||

got and one piece || oh yeah, Jaime is such a wonderfully written villain turned good guy. And I feel like Akainu has a similar kind of set up going on for him, if not more on the nose than subtle. Akainu is at his core a proponent of justice, of keeping people safe, of punishing criminals who would endanger the lives of people. He’s just too extreme about his methods to actualize his justice. All he really needs is a nudge in the right direction. Keep your core, but change your methods. A convo with dragon might do it, especially after he witnesses the true demonic nature of the WG. Oda can still pull this off using the flashback. I can see his redemption being a really great moment ||

RoW 39 || sibling and Navani shenanigans, what’s the possibility of Navani bonding the spren? The Bondsmith couple has a nice ring to it. Pattern is so fucking sus especially after he “fake” remembered that fake memory. Fucking piece of shit cryptic.
Loved chapter 39. Kaladin chapters are so good in this part. Goated character. ||

The Boys season 5 general

The Boys ||I actually don't care about the superhero deconstruction thing all that much. I also think it's political commentary as of recently just is too on the nose because it's based on recent real world events.

From the start I've liked the premise of a few random people going up against superheroes and having to outsmart them. In the first 2 eps they kill translucent and I think that's one of the best parts of the whole series. If they just kept going in that direction this series would've been better imo.

But even if they ultimately didn't go in that direction entirely, this idea of random nobodies going up against people who were practically untouchable was always there. Whenever they came face to face with a supe, there was a lot of tension. The ryan and becca plotline was done well, Stormfront was a comic book villain but she still felt threatening and there was this feeling of "something is at stake". A-train's arc was pretty good. Homelander didn't just feel like a stupid insecure man.

This show has completely lost that. It doesn't matter if the virus doesn't work, It doesn't matter if homelander took the V1, it doesn't matter if Soldier boy's back, It doesn't matter if ryan still hasn't come back, It doesn't matter that Joe kesler was supposed to be an important part of butcher's character this season, it doesn't matter that starlight was portrayed as having become much stronger. Nothing they do matters, nothing in the show seems like it matters or has a satisfying payoff.

It was edgy, there was a lot of gore in this show from the very start, and I'm not gonna pretend it was always done in a very clever way, a lot of times it just happened because that's just what this show had become.

But it still felt consistent to watch, it felt like plotlines were going somewhere, It felt like failure had consequence. None of that exists now. All that remains is SLOP !||

The boys ||well they’re not random nobodies they were backed by the government in the beginning idk if they are now cause I stopped after season one. Aside from Huey or however it’s spelled they were all killers of a sort with ties to the government||

The boys ||butcher had ties to the government, and MM through him, the others were all essentially nobodies. Besides, I also mean nobodies as in they were just human beings trying to take out the supes. The boys had been disbanded before the start of the show, and butcher had essentially rebooted the group on their own.

Mallory was never on-board with hunting supes after what happened to her grandchildren and the original group was dead. At most they just received some contacts and intel from the government, they were mostly on their own||

The boys ||well if they were all part of a team to hunt supes prior to the series beginning doesn’t that make them not nobodies lol And they get super powers through compound v pretty early into the seasons right? Like season 2-3? Idk how it lines up with the comics||

The boys ||They work mostly on their own though, the government isn't actively assisting them for the most part (until butcher goes back to mallory) and even then it's only through contacts and intel. Which yeah, is useful but they're still planning and doing their missions on their own, hughie, kimiko and starlight are new-hires and even when they do receive powers later on, they're nowhere near strong enough to take out someone like homelander. Also the powers they have are a temporary version.||

The Boys ||the issue with the boys that I have, more than anything, is them showing butcher "grow a heart" a bit a few times throughout the series. Showing some semblance of emotional intelligence with Ryan in season 2 and early season 3. But then he just regresses cause I assume him being an asshole is easier to write for tension. I actually still dont dislike the show, and although I dont think season 4 specifically is good. But Butcher's character is so inconsistent and forced at this point. I like Frenchie and Hughie.

Also, there was always shock value stuff in it, but season 3 started something that they committed to for the entirety of that season and season 4. The "substance" of scenes became the shock value, as opposed to that shock value being connected to a moment that contributes substance to the story in season 1 and 2. With season 3 they had herogasm, and the stupid hughie being sexually abused in season 4 etc, those moments are written by the showrunners explicitly for the "HAHAH THIS IS SO FUNNY HAHAHA WHAT A RIDICULOUS AND GROSS SITUATION". Felt like they forced a lot of that stuff in there over time just for the sake of it. Not as a "what if superheroes were real thing" but "what can we get away with because of the premise of superheroes being real". Sage lobotomizing herself too, among other things. A-Train running through and killing someone makes sense. The Seven being treated as like a frat house and new members being hazed or abused makes sense. But none of it goes out of its way too be gross for minutes on end for the sake of showing gross things.

I think the show lost focus in order to incorporate those things, and I'd say part of that might have been a result of a shift in direction when they created Gen V, cause at that point they probably didn't have a plan as to how it ends yet.||

||They kinda do this in reverse too where butcher at the end of s4 turns into a semi-villain who cares about no one but then he turns back into "having a heart" in s5||

||To me they just changed up s4 massively and extended the series to compliment Gen V, and now they're using S5 to set up vought rising (and they've cancelled gen v). Stuff like a complete rewrite of soldier boy's character, bombsight and the other V1 supes being mentioned a lot, V1 in general being an important ( ) plotline also.

Just frustrating to watch.||

• Taravangian interludr just makes the todium chapter way less impactful. It outright spoils it
• The ending POVs aren't thematically coherent like OB was. Or TWOK ||

OB was strong but a bit overstuffed i think a bit long. And it had to compete with the mid-book climax of storming the castle which i thought was actually better. Row had so many different good threads working together: kaladin vs puruser and 4th oath, navani and raboniel, moash, terravangion, leshwi ||
