1926 Faust was pretty uneven both as a movie and an adaption of the many variants of its source material but man when it was hitting it was one of the best films I've ever seen

Which was like, maybe only half the run time but I'll let that slide

Film students might hate me for this but I feel like Murnau, at least in his horror movies since I've only seen this and Nosferatu, is brilliant at illustrating things like atmosphere and visually translating the subtext of his movie into the frame. When he's going for spectacle or something more illustrative he's a genuine master, it's why his films are so influential and famous

But even for the silent era though he has a tendency to really flatten and simplify the actual characters of his adaptions though? Whenever he's doing quieter, character driven scenes it can often feel almost comical.

yeah the action ones have been around as long as the original tank controls ones by this point, its just another part of the identity

RE9 is a great mix of the two, 7 definitely leans more into being pure horror atleast at the first third, RE8 is a decent mix too of action and horror

4 to 6 is where there is a noticeable increase in action, with 4 tho there are still horror elements and spooky atmosphere while 5 and 6 are more so completely action
