Very likely should ngl
anything I have read recently has failed me...
and even stuff I used to like. Like Poppy war...
Other mediums ain't better either
Did you watch send help
I rarely watch horror comedy if at all bro
I also wasnt interested but it was surprisingly amazing
I never watched it
In fact i didnt think it could work lol
sighs guess I'll trust you
I think they nailed it and was super fun and satisfying
Send Help ending ||"FUCKK YOUUUU BRADLEYYYY"
||
Really good movie
Lets goooooooooo
I told my mom i was taking her she was very happy
WoR 78 || yeah the love triangle š ||
A Clash of Kings 70%
|| > Then indigo turned to orange, and whispers turned to screams. Her heart was pounding, racing, the hands and mouths were gone, heat washed over her skin and Dany blinked at a sudden glare. Perched above her, the dragon spread his wings and tore at the terrible dark heart, ripping the rotten flesh to ribbons, and when his head snapped forward, fire flew from his open jaws, bright and hot. She could hear the shrieks of the Undying as they burned, their high thin voices crying out in tongues long dead. Their flesh was crumbling parchment, their bones dry wood soaked to tallow. They danced as flames consumed them, they staggered and writhed and spun and raised blazing hands on high, their fingers blazing like torches ||
Reminder goro thinks his prose is mid
Goro is stupid

He has good takes
Smh
Yea read that and I stand by what I said
except ROW...
Smh
You canāt help the helpless
Just higher standards fr
I am wombat from the future you still have bad taste
Salem's Lot ||Chapter 12, a little over halfway through|| ||Book is still good, got more properly introduced to the vampires in general, with I think Susan finally being turned and the boy Mark she went into the house with escaping - via a goofy Houdini trick - Straker's attempt at tying him up. However, the book's not really scary. Granted, there's still more to go, so it's possible that King has a few aces up his sleeve for the genre.||
AGOT (book) ||finally got some good reading in. Didnt know it was like 4 dominoes in a row after Ned tells Cersei that he knows about her kids and Jamie, right into Viserys getting a fancy new hat, then right into Robert befriending the wild life, right into Ned making I think the biggest mistake of not going with Renly. Ned is far too honorable for a world that is gonna eat him up||
Did you watch the show
Nah
I can't stomach the level of violence in a visual medium like that
Reading it I can handle much better
But a "realistic" depiction of it just isn't my bag
That being said, I can usually handle it in comics or manga. It's just the live action stuff is where my brain draws the line
Martinās prose is just some of the best in literature imo and it only keeps getting better with each book
I can handle most gorey depictions in media. But I cannot handle murder mysteries or crime stories of the like. Because that is not fiction, making it far more gross and frightening.
Kinda odd how everyone can handle things at different levels
And for differing reasons
I grew up with adult media as a child, so I might be desensitized. But real life stories that get turned into documentaries or movies are much, much harder for me to stomach.
I think I've finally found my favorite prose author in fantasy
Violence is usually ok for me as long as it isnāt sexual
I grew up with horror games. I think that's why realistic depictions I cant do but stylized I can
Jay Kristoff is my favorite prose for now, but I'm not well versed in literature.
Yeah I 1000% get this
yeah i also grew up with resident evil and silent hill at release. still, once my fiction becomes real life, I draw the line.
Not trying to convince you but I do think youāre missing out a bit on the show, the books are better, but you rarely get that quality in a tv show
I'm guessing Sabble won't like Game of Thrones. It's viscerally violent and sexual at times.
Yeah itās a shame I think, there are a few manga I avoided reading because they were a bit too much
So I understand nonethelesss
AGOT ||Like I saw Cersei and Ned talking in the Godswood about the kids and it was fantastic but at the same time Ive also seen Vierys get rekt by molten gold and I know comparing that to the book I easily withstood it in the book where as in the show, his scream still scars me||
It sucks because I am sure I would love a lot of it
But on the other hand I know there's just a level I cant do
AGOT || of all things the Viserys one being an example is a bit funny, but yes I understand you,||
Game of Thrones season 1 ||Man, Viserys' death is awesome in the show. That scream was so well delivered, and the entire scene was satisfying. Talk about getting your just desserts. ||
AGOT and some ASOIAF||Well he was just the most recent thing I read. I also have seen Oberyn die by the Mountain's hand and that shit still messes with me||
Sab you are blown by the prose already huh
AGOT ||See I know exactly why he got it now and I agree Viserys SUCKS but still it was just something Id rather not do in a Live action setting||
It gets exponentially better with each book
Considering I am already rating A Game of Thrones a 5 star book yes
I've never read a long fantasy book like this that has not had like
Lulls
Martin is on the level of a stylist like Le Guin in fantasy
It's paced magnificently. The prose is easily my favorite in fantasy so far
Oh yeah AGOT is good, but if you're giving that a 5, just wait.
Oh I know and that's why I am excited
Storm will blow you away
A Game of Thrones is up there as one of my favorite books ever and it sucks that I let fear kinda dictate how long until I read it
But maybe this also was the right time to read it
Iām starting my reread of it tomorrow
Also, we inevitably I catch up and Winds still isn't out, I am not one of them peeps who demands a book from an author or feels owed. I am just happy for the experience
Literally
ASOS, don't read Sabble ||Reading the Purple Wedding before the show got to that point along with the Red Wedding was just mind bogglingly awesome.||
Rothfuss has less of an excuse than Martin
Martin has several engagements of his own
Thing with Rothfuss is I wouldn't be upset if he just didn't do shit like the charity stuff
That's where I was like
Heās also constantly showing heās working, Rothfuss hasnāt even released a sample chapter that he was supposed to have released for charity
Okay dude you dont gotta give me book 3 but don't do this shit
Rothfuss hasnt posted on his blog since 2023
its been like 5 years right
Dude is gone
Like thereās no fucking way you pull off shit like that and cite āmental health reasonsā for all that
Yeah
After all that I am just like "okay these are the books we are getting. That's it"
Iāve really soured on his writing as well
If and I mean BIG if Doors of Stone ever dropped, I would still read it
But yeah I am relegated to the fact it isn't happening
ive heard there is too much for one book
Like, itās beautiful and all but itās in service of an empty story with a soul thatās long gone
to tie it all up
It kinda is but like
Martin has 2 books left and heās working on a manuscript thatās so big it has to be split into two volumes
Idk like I said, Name of the Wind is gonna long remain one of my favorite fantasy books
I can't bring myself to read that second Rothfuss book, so I'm good on whatever he does lol
Iām not sure weāll get A Dream of Spring but Winds is being worked on and we know because Martin has actually released preview chapters
MULTIPLE OF THEM
Name of the Wind is it
I am almost convinced A Dream of Spring doesn't happen
I do think Winds does
ADOS is dead in the water most likely
If the series remains unfinished, so be it
We'll be lucky to get Winds
But we will get it. Dude is pretty deep in
Brandon Sanderson finishes ADOS

Fuckkkkkk no
if we get twiw we will get ados
Brandon has denied it lol
Now that I've read Martin a good deal
Theyāre not being written together
Sanderson would not at all be the dude to finish this
It would go against Brandon's morals to write Dream anyways haha
i didn't say they were
But highly improbably regardless
i think twiw is like the big mountain he has to climb
and i think ados is like on the way down after climbing it
they're probably both mountains at this point
In a way, Martin shot himself in the foot planning these and he has said it himself but what we ended up getting with these books is like, fucking insane because theyāre all great books
and we can't rely on the show as any indication
Yeah there's just. They are so different as writers
Brando Sando writing Martin style prose⦠heād explode
brandon doesnt have the prose to finish it for him
I enjoy Sanderson but man Imma be that dude. None of Sanderson's work pulls the same as Martin for me now
Ive not read a Sanderson book that has pulled emotions like this from me, even if I know what is coming
Like I really respect Brandon, but heās not got that dawg in him to do it like Martin
brandon would do pg-13 westeros and I would puke as a result
and yeah harsh is right. Martin is like fucking insanely brutal at times
Not just that, the way he writes is so lyrical and yet direct
Thereās a certain power to the flow of Martinās language and how he writes in characters voices
Also, I want to say with all this, I do love what Martin is doing and after this I am planning on Malazan
But
brandon is utilitarian
Martin is excellent at peeling back the layers of the human psyche
I think I still prefer quest like fantasy for fun. But I appreciate the depth of dark fantasy
Brandon is for a lack of a better term, cinematic in his writing and descriptions
Brandon makes superhero stories
i've heard someone describe Brandon's prose as cinematic and that feels very correct, especially with fight scenes
Which for me is kind of a negative when itās not battle sequences
I do still think Words of Radiance is a 5 star book but it's 5 star in a different way to A Game of Thrones
reading King again for the first time in 10 years reminds me how much I need good worldbuilding in my stories. or at least good environmental descriptors
Someone described his writing as being like āa cool nat geo documentaryā with his descriptions
thats what im reading after stormlight
Nicee
I know some of it but I also know it's an extremely dense read
Compared to the norm
I may chase Martin with a Wheel of Time reread tho
(Not all of it, just the first three)
i heard stop trying to tie everything together and ull have fun
I think after Salem's Lot, I'm going to give Prince of Thorns another try and see if I can stomach its edginess.
I had to put it down early on
Too much edgy cool guy stuff?
|| wasnt the protagonist a rapist ||
of salem or thorn?
Reminds me of when I started reading Theft of Swords and had to dnf
thorn
Theft of Swords ||WOAH YOU GUYS ARE THE COOL GUYS WHO ARE REALLY COOL AND GOOD WITH SWORDS AND REALLY COOL?? WE DONT WANNA MESS WITH THESE GUYS||

Theft of Swords example
I very much
Hate this kinda thing
There's more but basically
Theft of Swords ||If you have to have your bad guys say how badass someone is, immediately they are not badass||
This would suck so much ass btw
Did you see that chick who asked george what heās going to do since heās ādying soonā
Its one thing to think that to ask it directly to the authors face
Is insane
Incredibly disrespectful thing to ask and I remember when that was
yeah it was con recently
Sab Iām excited for you to continue reading
Some of the prose he writes
Is legit on another level
Some scenes are just burned into my brain
I am excited to read more myself. I am enjoying taking my time with it
Asoiaf end dont open ||burned being the right word because that dragon scene in dance is written so damn well ||
TRUE! ADWD, don't read Sabble ||I post this jokingly, but this is always fucking hilarious.||
Are you done with game of thrones?
Almost
I am like 70% done
But I already know the ending and stuff
It's just some smaller parts
Like AGOT||When I first read I didn't know there was a scene where like some deserters of the nights watch and wild men come after Bran and Grey Wind and Summer fuck em up along with Robb. That was cool. Or did I know that Jon and Tyrion had a cool connection or how Samwell is treated and protected so much by my boy Jon||
ASOS end, don't read Sabble ||They're gonna lose their mind over Lady Stoneheart.||
Game of Thrones show ||Which was a HUGE loss for the show, fucking imbeciles.||
Agot ||i found bran so so boring in this book lol||
Agot ||just a complete drag in an otherwise amazing book||
Oh dont get me wrong AGOT ||I do enjoy his learning to deal with his disability now and I think there are hints at some interesting stuff to come. I just liked THAT scene in particular. I love northern scenes. I love stuff in Winterfell and the Wall||
cold stuff is just cozy
AGOT ||idk how Martin coulda done it but I do wish I got more Ned in Winterfell||
Agot ||the moments between ned and his kids are really good||
Agot|| Jon and Tyrion are so good together i love them talking. Its iconic but tyrions ātake what they make fun of you for and use itā is so good. An unlikely duo but they bounce really well ||
AGOT ||I know his fate but Ned is a favorite. He is the take on the father/mentor archetype I enjoy and I think was done well. Also shout out Sean Bean playing multiple fantasy dudes who get murked early||
AGOT ||i didnt find them unlikely. Like even when Jon was bristly at first I was like "dude Tyrion knows EXACTLY what you are going through, be cool" especially after Catelyn's it shoulda been you. That was. Whew. That sucked ||
ASOIAF in general, don't read Sabble ||Man I love me some Davos chapters - my beautiful Onion Knight.||
Agot ||that Catelyn scene still one of the most brutal scenes Iāve read. Just complete disregard, actually brutal. Sheās so biting in it||

AGOT ||When I read that, even if it was small, and I felt the like scorn of it, I knew that Martin was a master. If he could build a scene where a sentence made me feel unwanted, I was in for a ride||
@limber urchin have you ever ordered from Beastly Books?
I would love a signed copy and I know this is his store
ASOS ||did those things happen in the same book? Because in the show it was end of S3 and start of S4||
Asos /show || yes s4 is mostly still asos ||
I would say its more poignant than just that at a good number of times but yeah its a apt description
And Rothfuss even marketed himself as "Not those people who won't complete the series. and that he has the entire trilogy written already"
It's been 20 years
he's only what like 78
and i dont think has signs of like dementia or anything
thats so wack to even say
Nah. Idk man I just didn't like the prose
I am very picky in that regard
Who are your favorite authors for prose?
I like Octavia Butler's
I haven't read much Butler, but she is on the list
I like the prose in Perdido street station
I like Pratchett's prose, Robin Hobb's and R Scott Bakker
That's about it
Interesting, Interesting
This guy likes someone with butt in the name
š š
GG
Well everyone has their taste
Asoiaf/show ||then book 4 and 5 are the rest of s4 and s5? Did they take a lot out of the books by that point already||
Octavia Butler is like the scifi goat
I thought that was LeGuinn or Wolfe
oh and The Last Unicorn
Idk Wolfe's most famous work is fantasy to be
If its scifi, then Dune's fantasy
Is there anyway to define good prose to you guys or is it just a feeling thing
Which must doesn't work for me
Cause its so subjective
Dune kinda is part fantasy
idk. It just has to hit
That's the requirement for me
Shadow of the Torturer and Dune both have fantasy elements
But both have sci fi elements as well
For me the genre's mostly the approach than elements
so first is fantasy, latter is scifi
And like using this example cuz was in a convo yesterday || Cosmere being space age doesn't change it to scifi for me|| Cosmere general
Idk anyone who would argue Cosmere as sci fi
There are technically elements but I think that's different than something like Dune
Uhh say there's a portal.
The reasoning behind how the portal works would defines the genre.
If its bunch of scientific lingo where the base seems to be earth or similar, then its scifi.
If its some entirely different laws at work, then it's magic.
Idk if I explained it well
Also, genres while helpful, can be limiting to creativity. I don't think things have to particularly fit into one box or another if they don't wish to
asoiaf and show || the last event in asos is littlefinger pushing lysa out the moon door and thats s4 ep 8 so that should give you a rough idea. it barely got into later books s4 is mostly asos ||
I mean I suppose I understand
Dune is a really imaginative and bold approach to scifi worldbuilding that even calling it Fantasy undercuts that for me
But why?
There are legit fantasy elements within dune
Even if it is Sci Fi
It doesn't mean it is diminished
Yes but Dune ||what about the Voice, all the Bene Gesserit stuff, it's been a minute since I've read dune||
|| And the Voice is just humanity changing the approach from developing tools to augment themselves to bio engineering. || dune
Okay, but Dune ||does that distinction at all make the fantastical elements of it no longer fantastical? I mean it's not like Dune is approached aa a hard fantasy ||
|| BG stuff is just decades of organized manipulation and absolute power of religious institutionalism || Dune
Dune/Lucy || its like calling the Movie Lucy as Fantasy for what it did ||
I suppose, idk man Dune to me always read like Sci Fi through a fantasy lens. At least compared to what sci fi was before it
I don't view Dune the same way I view Foundation
Foundation is also similar
Foundation || you could call I forgot the main psychohistorian scientist as a prophet with power to see the future ||
but its like specified to be not
Hmm. Well, I view these things a bit differently than you, which is fine. Besides, I am someone who thinks hard genre lines leads to less creativity overall. It's fine if you want a hard sci fi or low fantasy story, I just don't think, and maybe I misunderstood, that the fantastical elements of Dune, no matter the explanation, are undercutting the book by acknowledging them as such
Similarly for Shadow of the Torturer || is a fantasy world that has advanced to a super developed one and then collapsed ||
Dune ||my intent is not to say that the Voice or the BG are just fantasy and oooo magic, it's more to say those elements have shown up in fantasy stories, even if the reasons for them existing is science based||
I think hard genre lines would be creating a new genre as "scifantasy" just cuz a scifi or fantasy had a bold approach. So like my reasoning for what I think these is same as yours :kekhands:
I just hate that term man
Unfortunately right now the face of that would probably be Suneater
Which sadly took a turn that I wish it didn't
Suneater is, despite what the author calls it, scifi for me
I mean, there's very big fantasy elements
It's far from a hard sci fi story at the very least
Fair
Like yes I would put it in the sci fi section at B&N
my memory of suneater is very bad to discuss it so I'll trust you lol
I remember the first three books very well
I read the first two before you started it and haven't continued it since
Then I was informed how things went and I lost interest
I even got rid of the books, I don't plan to finish the series
Yes I remember the convo
His views on a popular grifter and how it affected the character right?
Well
It was a few things
Tbh
Suneater & Lightbringer ||the biggest thing actually is he took a stance similar to lightbringer where it was like embrace the church and Idk I am not opposed to ideas that oppose mine but I have a list of books that Id rather read for my own enjoyment||
And yes that
Fair
tho Sab read The Way Station
Really really really quintessential scifi
If you need more credibility for the rec, it won the Hugo Award
Catchy opening! But the comma splice is unwieldy. Why dont you try "It was not just the best of times. It was also the worst of times."
Holy shit
Daredevil season 3 episode 6 was crazy
Daredevil s3 ||the entire scene with dex as daredevil was crazy insane how brutal it was, first time I've actively was shocked by the brutality||

Legend of Korra season 1 midway ||Wow, the setpieces and animation are sick. Not as big a fan of, well, all the characters, but still really fun plot||
Good luck
yep they did!
finished rereading a clash of kings
ACOK ||My personal favorite of the books, just love being with Tyrion in King's Landing so much along with the Battle of the Blackwater.||
ACoK ||winning that battle led to the Lannister rule unraveling unironically after the chaos of that shit flinging riot ||
Is that new OP season any good?
I can't get thru this love is blind season.. I hate all the couples
Better ask it here but Iāve been seeing positive reactions
Don't worry, it won't get better for some time
Acok ||the battle of Blackwater bay bought them.a few months. But it was just the win needed for them to lower their guard and fall so low afterwards. It leads directly to the further replacement of the small council into yes men. And a city ripe for revolution once their great king wins but nothing really changes for the bette.||
Acok ||really love the scene in the books, tyrion's plan and actually having a spine to charge into battle himself. The chants of "half man half man". Its just so hype unironically.||
Wow that fan art is crazy
reminds me of some Zan fanart

I have a feeling people like Perdido Street Station
its pretty good
amazing
Tho I think I am underwhelmed by the cover
the inside arts are so amazing tho
yeah
I read Perdido just to read The Scar but I haven't started it yet š
@tawny parcel get this edition and gift it to me
it's only 121 usd
Folio's other GoT one was better
or was it broken bidning
speaking of broken binding tho
imagine having this amazing of a cover. Garden of the Moon
@limber urchin check this art out
folio version of ACOK ||love this illustration of blackwater too in the folio editions||
don't really vibe with the artstyle in these ones
yeah this is the one I was talking about
oh same one
lol
dawg
lol I didn't check through it all
That's neat, but I wouldn't mind something more subtle for ASOIAF.
a clash of kings ||this illustration of renly's death is so good from the folio edition||
the artstyle in the first few pieces and the one you sent are different so thought it was something else
Only second chapter of Malazan first book.
Ah, I think Malazan is somewhere on my list to begin one day. That's a darker series, right?
Darker and well it doesn't hold your hand
You aren't even told allegiances or anything
and must figure out through the conversation
Well it does hold the reader's hand more than I would have wanted, but yea
Well I am only 50% in the first book so idk much more than that either

I donāt even have that much money for myself bro
Have they tried actual voice actors?
Cranston is a decent voice actor what do you mean
Ok but letās be honest. Theyāre only trying to get him cuz he was on Breaking Bad
Not cuz heās a good voice actor
Same thing with Invincible Season 3 ||Aaron Paul as Powerplex||
I don't watch invincible so I wouldn't know
At the very least it's nice that Cranston has the ability to voice act, but he made the right call in saying no
It's a publicity thing more than anything
Oh wait I was confusing Cranston with someone else LMFAO
Yeah idk if he's done any voice acting
He did a long time ago
He was actually a monster on power rangers lmao
For those curious
He dubbed anime
I'm watching Stranger Things rn cause one of my friends kept glazing it
Iām sorry
at S3E6, so far it's alright
some lines of dialogue are so ass tho
like stranger things s3 ep 1 ||Hopper saying "A heart to heart, what's that?" when he has one like every few episodes istg. He's a grown ass man, he knows what a heart to heart is. Plus in S2 he said he'd talk to Eleven more. They did the thing where they reverted his character arc so he can have it again this season||
Dude daredevil is such a peak show
Season 3 is wild tho
Daredevil ||dex is such a fucking crazy dude i love it. The damn smirk when he was wearing the daredevil suit was sk peak||
He was commissioner Gordon in an animated Batman thing
First looks at character designs for atla movie
atla movie || honestly im more excited for the new show, I think the old cast can rest now ||
Maybe main villain in atla movie. Spoilers
Idk this looks way better to me
Atla movie spoilers, peak
atla movie ||adult toph pleaseee give me a chance||
Atla movie spoilers ||peak||
ASOIAF || what happens if like a king tells one of his kings guard to sleep with his wife? Thatās like breaking your oath both ways right? No winning that one.||

Lmao what ???
@modern lichen did we receive the release date of Buried Giant adaptation by del toro?
No
also crazy Klara and the sun is set to release this year, and we haven't gotten much news about it yet
yeah worst fit for that work
š
@foggy mirage we getting a The Mist remake by Flanagan???
Yes
Heās doing Carrie first
adaptation of Buried Giant by del toro
And heās also doing a new Exorcist film
neuromancer
What ???
We are
yeah well we are always getting Carries
every single decade
Flanagan is perhaps the busiest man in Hollywood
This is very good news for me
Flanagan could make an excellent new mist film
imagine if even Taika delivers on Klara and the sun
Clayface, carrie, the mist and possibly the dark tower ?
Heās a great creative
Like good god
Heās doing it yeah
Watching dr sleep and midnight mass made me get eyes on him
Exorcist
Add that too
Heās gonna finish Winds of Winter for us
At this point I might just let him
I forgot that is this year
Thereās a ton of shit this year that Iām excited by
Why did everyone decide to drop everything this year
Monarch has been going great, new episode tomorrow
I gotta get on that
Been hearing good things
We have Dhurandhar 2 (Goro/Neko knows) and Project Hail Mary just in a few days
Project hail mary being good
Taika's Klara and the sun
Dune Messiah
blade runner
del toro's Buried Giant
PHM
Piranesi by Laika
MFing Neuromancer
Had me shocked
Mistborn
Ngl
how many shit are we getting these two years
Thereās more
Neko, thereās the new Ramayana film this year
I have not but I heard the movie had people worried
Diwali
Due to amazon
In a few months time
Yeah
Havenāt you seen the announcement vid
Is the VFX by the same studio that did the great one a couple of years ago
Been hearing india vfx can cook
there was a Ranbir Kapoor movie with amazing VFX
I have full faith in Lord and Miller
something fantastical
Brahmastra, and the VFX is ok
I think they can definitely deliver
āFrom the directors of Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballsā
I hadn't expected Indian cinema other than Red Chilli studios or Rajamouli movies to do anything as good
@sage remnant India now has Asiaās biggest motion capture studio where Rajamouli has shot a lot of scenes for Varanasi
this year gonna be amazing for movies
packed every month hopefully
tho Idk if I can take Ranbir in that role
For me for some reason he's typecasted in the Wake up Sid or ajab prem ki gajab kahani
I know he has done more different roles
like Animal or Sanju.
but I default to that
Rajamouli had Mahesh Babu do 6-7 months of Kalaripayattu and posture training just for Ramaās posture
Ranveer singh howevery greatly varied his range
Like I wouldn't have thought he would do as well he did in 83 or Dhurandhar
the emotional depth
Which movie composer would be best for Stormlight and Mistborn @sage remnant
The Odyssey
Spielbergās new film about aliens - Disclosure Day
Tom Cruiseās new movie Digger
idk
I am not much of a movie guy man
I won't know names
Ludwig Goranson
You forgot Send Help
For Stormlight?
he hasn't read MB to talk about that
I also would think Justin Hurwitz (who did the score for First Man)
I have read the first MB trilogy
I like book 2 a lot except the ending
book 2 was the best one for me š
would have been a top one if not for the super meh climax
I dont remember much about Mistborn
did you see its getting adapted
Trilogy yea
And Stormlight TV show
Stormlight would be a series
Yea probs
Did Sando clarify
Brandon wants to do trilogy of movie yes
Isnāt he writing the Stormlight scripts
rn Mistborn
nah only Mistborn
it's at 25% for first draft iirc
personally I am not very excited for Stormlight adaptation or Mistborn as much
I don't see them being any remotely good
plus it's also like OP where I would be super source purist
and the adaptations would surely make a lot of changes
I thought Hans Zimmer did Oppenheimer, damn
He would be great yea
@foggy mirage imagine a fully accurate ASOIAF adaptation with Apple money for VFX and costuming and scale
for stuff like Neuromancer, I am only interested in getting the soul of the book right
I think a lot parts can be cut
Neuromancer is so much a product of its time and how it subverts the trends of its time
Even the opening line itself is obscure at the moment weāre in
I like adaptations so I can talk to people who dont read books about the books
yeah I am different for stuff where i like like everything about it
Also Black Panther and Sinners and Tenet
like part of the reason I hate OPLA but don't want to go into that
OPLA is just a different story than the main one
With that thinking I could enjoy it more
OPLA is pretty good
I think Stormlight would be a similar case
and so I don't have much hope
i dont like early OP much so i dont really care
I would even swear by syrup village
the arc which everyone apparently hates
but yeah Neuromancer adaptation would be great
Apple TV budget
There is not enough good fantasy being made, and Amazon fucked up all their fantasy shit
I wish I had watched Foundation tv show before reading the books
it's crazy how badly they fumbled
that way I could have enjoyed both
WoT, Rings of Power
Rings of Power has definitely soured a lot in my mind but itās continuing and hopefully it keeps improving
they cancelled it just as the adaptation was getting great....
just adapt Second apocalypse for people who want more ASOIAF
have you read The Darkness that comes bfore harsh
It has to be watered down because the books are so expansive that its scope is kinda incomprehensible
I think ASOIAF fans would like it
I mean ASOIAF is popular enough that another better adaptation could happen if GRRM published more
but i dont think the original actors are replaceable
God if that happened
harsh imagine if we get The Tainted Cup adaptation!
Accurate everything
oh speaking of that
Seven Dials apparently got an adaptation
saw that on Netflix recently. need to get to it
Yeah itās ok
Yeah trailer dropped
Pulling a Lost
š
||https://youtu.be/uTR_NzGAUOU?si=WrGyAQMj99ufmrJx|| from season 4
Created by John Griffin (Crater) and executive produced by Griffin, showrunner Jeff Pinkner (Lost, Alias, Fringe) and director Jack Bender (Lost, Game of Thrones, The Institute), the series unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. The new season will premiere Sunday, April 19 on MGM+.
In Season Four, the closer...
Was so confused
you'd think after Lost they'd realise they shouldn't drag mystery shows so much...
ASOIAF || Giant fucking monstrosity of a jagged throne, colorful dragons, accurate locations (Kingās Landing, Dragonstone, Stormās End, Harrenhal, Casterly Rock, Winterfell), Others not fucking sucking in their design and ephemeral nature, the armor of the knights and the colorful silks and attires, the exotic locales of Essos and its all expanding scope from Qarth to the free cities to Braavos and all in between ||
Season 3 is ok imo
Itās definitely trying to borrow on S1ās formula but it doesnāt have Cary Fukunaga directing it to perfection
what's that even
Well it's hard to explain
but Peter Capaldi is the Main character
kinda like horror mystery thriller show
he is super passionate about it also
wait I think my sister talked about it once
shows more than 1 season are just too long for me to care anyway
unless I am already super interested
Asoiaf ||holy hells thank you for pointing out how shitty the others looked. They looked like dried out old people. When the books tell us they are beautiful lithe ice people. And we'd get to see volantis, the river rhoyne and mereen properly. A qarth that could actually have Danny explore a bit. I'd kill to see moat cailin done right, dorne and the westerlands š . I'd wish for some iron islands but maybe I'm asking too much. I do enjoy the iron borne and their drowned god. Not getting this victarion or euron annoyed me to no end||
ASOIAF ||a more accurate Pyke
||
ASOIAF ||Victarion and Euron got merged into Hot Topic Pirate who tries to fuck ||
We also need a Elric of Melnibone adaptation
tho the structure would probably not work for current audience
Elric of Melnibone
Michael Whelan's art is so good man
Asoiaf ||victarions ship fight chap is one of my favorites. He knows if his ass slips in the water he's drowning due to the armor. And he just keeps going. Even to this day I still think about book euron and his speech at the kings moot. I want to know why he's attacking old town. Ngl tho balon a dumbass š ||
have you read Elric Lisa
I dont believe I have
ASOIAF ||all of the ironborn are kinda dumb, besides Euron whoās bringing Cthulhu to Westeros ||
The main cast's family/kingdom could be called proto targaryens. You should check it out
ASOIAF ||itās crazy that the Targs were not even a major dragonlord house in Valyria and they managed to have three dragons be able to conquer the entirety of Westeros ||
ASOIAF || all of the large dragons died in the doom so Balerion which is the largest dragon known to the world since after the Doom is barely a worm compared to those monstrosities ||
I got 2 books from you
Imma need that Clive one again
Imajica?
I probably recced Imajica to you
Asoiaf ||the fact they were practically just barely known is hilarious. They got lucky with their dragon dreams and managed to dip before the faceless men nuked valyria. I'm sure whatever hurt balerion is a giant fire wyrm from the mines that grew bigger than it.||
elric of melnibone
tho fyi, it's pure sword and sorcery fantasy. To the core
I wouldn't have enjoyed it at all if not for the way it was written
I have always said asoiaf ||I believe magic just taints the land it afflicts for centuries to come. Like its some sort of radiation. It causes diseases like Grayscale which I think its 100% supernatural and things like asshai by the seas aura of death.||
oh on that note, have you read The King In Yellow
Eric off melnibone ||that is a sick ass cape. But I can rock with fantasy so this isn't a problem for me. I like rober e Howard Conan type of things.||
The lovecraft one ?
Yeah if you like Conan this would work
It's by Robert W Chambers
but yeah it's kinda cosmic horror
kinda psychological horror
kinda gothic
kinda weird fiction like china meville's stuff
Getting more appropriate recommendations from the op discord than any book discord
well I always recommend with what people like previously
ASOIAF ||Old Valyria is now completely fucked and impossible to navigate so that tracks||
oh yeah @young compass where's the Poppy War rant
Some of these book places giving f tier recommendations
I only talk in BBR (that too very less nowadays) and 17th shard, and the recs there are amazing
I read King in Yellow as buddy read in that place initially
Asoiaf ||what a valyrian slave owner experienced as every single place exploded with violent magma and magic flames. And the targaryen plus the valeryons somehow survived that due to being so damn far away. I would have been pissed.||
So you both read it around the same time ?
well they organize like buddy reads where if 4+ people are interested in reading smth together, they create a thread for discussions
so like irl book club
they started Dark Tower Buddy read this January
That speed is just busted good god
while discussing about each book
I take my sweet time with stuff. Haven't touched a book in a while either š
Ngl
I need to get in a super mood
that plus if I am reading a book that gets to a super good part, I don't continue it unless I have like huge continuous duration of reading time
Today's read
I wish comics still had this sort of fanfare over new visuals in the current age
like imagine a marvel making huge announcement to give peter parker the brocolli hair
New editor, new writer, new artist, new status quo all at once, after like a 10 year run with the same writer/artists/editor lol
lollll
They had this running the previous month
Ice Age ||#manga message @haughty ruin after the ban||
lol good one
@sudden swift what does this mean
01001111 00100000 01000010 01010010 01000001 01010011 01001001 01001100 00100000 01010110 01000001 01001001 00100000 01000001 01010010 01001001 01010010 01000001 01001110 01000111 01000001 01010010
It translates to "Brazil will go/going to ARIRANGAR"
I have no idea what "ARIRANGAR" means
I think it's something related to bts
(I saw the comments)
@haughty ruin Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ||Okay yea you wasnt lying i havent gotten past the full opening narration/wedding speech and im hooked||
it's peak
mrs maisel ||the writing is so... sharp||
||the cast is phenomenal of course, tony shalhoub is amazing as midge's dad||
BRASIL VAI ARIRANGAR
wat dat mean š
Watch Gilmore girls
Mrs. Maisel ||LMAOOO THE SHRIMP EGG ROLLS||
crazy to see Mrs Maisel talk here
mrs maisel ||right yes i suppose you should be aware of the rules for kosher food lol||
Rachel Brosnahan is so good in that role
Mrs. Maisel ||Somewhat lol. The cinematography is really good too so far.||
Salem's Lot ||maybe 3/4 done?|| ||OK, I like Barlow - the main vampire - a lot. While not a scary book, King is doing a great job making him feel ancient and vampiric.||
judaism ||so the basic rules are you can't have pork, you can't have shellfish, and you can't mix meat and milk (no meat and dairy at the same time)||
did you spoiler tag a religion?
yeah
lol

that is pretty funny
what's next for you
more King?
Honestly, I want more Kristoff.
so uhh nevernight?
I want Nevernight, see where he got his stardom
I don' think I can go back to Prince of Thorns honestly
fair
and I want to see him tackle 3rd-person, since Empire has so much 1st person
still surprised how you managed to get through ASOIAF tho
cuz like it's also gorish
because Prince feels edgy in a "i'm 14 and this is deep" kind of way
ASOIAF isn't edgy, it's just very adult and brutal
the prose is massively different between the two
i can handle gore and violence all day
that description is more EoTV tho š
in a good way
Empire has it in doses, and some of it i do criticize. but Prince, for me, was like being slapped in the face
hmm
like the author was trying really hard to get his point across with that MC
I haven't read this but you could try The Book that wouldn't burn
it's the more liked work for that author
i may try it one day, but not anytime soon
'cause I don't know what I will want after Nevernight. Maybe that poppy trilogy i heard about?
yeah just mentioning it cuz like you wanted to try Mark Lawrence out
two fantasy in a row hmm
i do prefer fantasy on average
i always have
but I chase it with other stories like Stephen King which is more real world
Idk if I would really recommend Poppy war since it dropped from a 5/5 this is the best thing I have read to 3/5 in my reread :kekhands:
I really shouldn't have reread it...
some fantasy but more on literary side then
can others here give opinions on Poppy?
Juba hates it. Harsh hates that author's every book he has read
OK hate is a bit too extreme of an opinion for me
tho their problem is more of she lacks subtlety
she's extremely blunt with her themes
in a bad way?
I don't find that to be an issue because the stuff she covers really makes me think
but for Juba and Harsh, it was done distastefully
perhaps I will give it a try
@worthy crypt has read Poppy War. He liked first two books and disliked the last one
iirc
Rebecca Kuang is probably the most mixed author I know
in the reception of her books
Take 2021, Poppy War and everyone loved it. Booktube would swear by it. A few years go by everyone started to hate it
Same for Babel
I know after Neverwinter I probably won't want a long series
Mrs. Maisel ||I see. I kinda got sad seeing all the tings she does to retain that beauty for her husband she's running on loke 4 hours of sleep daily or something||
Poppy war is trilogy of book where each book is like
like I have zero plans to read Wheel of Time for example. that will be waaaay later down the line
60% of a Mistborn book
yes... YES... you get it...
Iirc
Have you heard of The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro
I would recommend that Buffy
no
Mrs. Maisel ||It also shows how smart she is like raising the blind just a bit so the sun hits her eyes and nothing else||
assume i have not heard of most books. i'm not well read
i'm trying to rectify that
Kazuo Ishiguro won Nobel Prize for Literature in 2017
and The Buried Giant is getting a stop motion adaptation by one and only Del Toro
can you give me a quick non-spoiler summary?
just giving the wikipedia's premise of it since I couldn't really phrase it in a way that's non spoilery
|| The novel follows an elderly Briton couple, Axl and Beatrice, living in a fictional post-Arthurian England in which no-one is able to retain long-term memories. The couple have dim memories of having had a son, and they decide to travel to a neighbouring village to seek him out. || The Buried Giant
||In its core it's examination of memory, guilt and trauma ||
@haughty ruin Mrs. Maisel ||Holy beauty standards. My heart is breaking a bit. Like she's all smiles but damn||
Are you watching ep 1?
Mrs. Maisel ||Her and her mom talking about the newborn daughter hurts a bit||
Yes I just started
Oh ok
i'm so glad you see it rich
The writing is amazing
mrs maisel ||fun fact, you briefly saw a guy in the intro flashback, they went to see a standup guy, lenny bruce - he's actually a real comedian||
||very controversial guy||
Mrs. Maisel ||Bro stealing jokes and, holy shit he would fall apart without her i love how they show that even back then the stay at home mom was the glue that held the house together.||
||I'll take your word for it lol||
Mrs. Maisel ||Ight her husband starting to pmo||
|| pmo? || mrs maisel
piss me off
Mrs. Maisel ||Holy bombšš||
I'm glad more people get what an amazing writer Amy Sherman is
Mrs. Maisel ||OH HELL NAHHHHH YOU LEAVING BECAUSE YOU BOMBED?!||
did you catch their other show etoile
||I FUCKING KNOW RIGHT||
Nah I've only seen Gilmore girls and some of maisel
Mrs. Maisel ||Bro omg this fucking guy.||
Mrs. Maisel ||MAYBE IF YOU TALKED TO YOUR FUCKING WIFE AND DIDN'T JUST USE HER AS AN ASSISTANT YOU TWO WOULD HAVE BETTER UNDERSTANDING HOLY SHIT||
Who cares about some Maisel we are talking about Stewie
death of creativity
Mrs. Maisel ||Fucking Penny!!!!||
||I fucking knew ittttt||
mrs maisel ||of course you kind of have to understand everything under the social context that this is the 50s||
YEAH
Mrs. Maisel ||Yea I get that part but I just... ugh omg.||
yeah
Mrs. Maisel ||My heart is breaking||
Mrs. Maisel ||Omg her mom just pmo again i understand the time and culture but bruh "what did you do?" Girl do NOT pmo||
mrs maisel ||sorry i guess i should have expected this to be a ragebait show for you lol||
Mrs. Maisel ||No I love it sis and i understand the themes but yeah her parents definitely both rage baited tf outta me with that "Joel left me" scene||
Mrs. Maisel ||But I love how even with all this going on she still finds a way to make jokes like you can tell that comedy is something natural for her I cant wait to see her get on the stage for herself (they already said shes gonna be a comedian in the Prime description so I know thats coming soon)||
...
All of these have been New York Times Best seller...
true!
I haven't heard of rina kent tho
dark romance author
Mrs. Maisel ||OMG SHES WALKING TO THE STAGE IS SHE ABOUT TO TRAUMA DUMP||
rina kent has 35 books published, different series but all sent in the same world
there's a reading order on her website
I wouldn't really kink shame or anything for people who read these books cuz everyone knows it's guilty pleasure and you should read to enjoy
but some parts of Colleen Hoover's books just...
there are 2 reading orders actually
It ends with us. Like why man why
What could this book possibly be about

I'm no longer hungry
And wish I was illiterate
š š š
Ugly love|| āwe both laugh at our sonās big balls.ā This had to go through editors and publishing||
NYT best seller btw
Isnāt that just a genre
Like I could get behind Romanticized Toxic Love/relationship. Everyone knows it's bad and it's just a fantasy or kink or w/e that people easily differentiate between real life and story
but those two examples...
eh not really
are you kinkshaming women now wombat
Its legit like hentai level plots sometimes i skim the back of these books when im at book stores
Are you assuming only women read them???
hentai level?
Fucking pig
a woman wrote it
it's way advanced than that wombat
also yeah almost every popular Dark romance oro monster smut are like written by women lol
Gold in Spanish
Amazing prose
the demographic is much more varied
It probably has its own shelf section at Barnes and Noble by now
speaking of awesome letterboxd brownie point content
y'all ever watch hundred nights of hero
I think those genre's are fun guilty pleasure. Except Colleen Hoover tho
Maybe I should read this
Please no man
Also I just finished Stormlight Way of Kings ||what an epic ending||
first time hearing about it
|| "For the Bridgemen"|| TWOK
the fuck, how many big names are in this fucking movie
it's real surface level feminism
Mrs. Maisel ||Thank you sisš||
I found a new fave
YES
