The shining novel ||I’m a big fan of the family stuff till the end of the book until he goes crazy where I kinda don’t care. I think the family drama is just more interesting lol||
thats like every king book
bro could not write a good ending if his life depended on it
The shining book ||I enjoyed it for what it is, him taking control of his impulses and addiction doesn't help he's being possessed. Even if in the end he was consumed by them his love for them shined through and Danny was a smart ass kid.||
Ngl this is way overblown
But I'll leave it at that
King is not a fraud but I’m not too big on him anyway
Im excited to read 11/22/63 when i get to it
Tje premise sounds really interesting
The shining was good enough even if I prefer the movie
Intermezzo|| I can understand Peter to an extent but man it is hard to like this dude, although hes totally fair to question ivan about Margaret, ivan really overblew that lol||
Intermezzo ||not supposed to be particularly likable i imagine tho lol||
Sometimes I feel stupid
And then I look online at discussion around things and remember it could be worse
That's a fantastic book, id recommend under the dome too
If you haven't yet
Dark tower is an easy recommend for me but that is my turbo bias from love
I have a lot of books i need to get around to so I’m not buying any more books for a little bit
@craggy seal was banned!
Reason: scam
@sage remnant on the final part of A Drop of Corruption, it’s been thrilling so far
see how my recs worked for you
now give me a rec for a high fantasy story with journalist mc

Man of Tomorrow News - || some of the casting descriptions for Man of Tomorrow make it seem like Mongul could be in play. Which to be honest, idk how to feel about that. I never fucked with Mongul because he just felt like Temu darkseid to me ||
I thought it would be fun to look that perspective in a world which may be crazy
|| like a normal daily planet reporter's perspective on crazy fights and happennings with superman|| superman general
yo do you have any superman comics rec which is from the perspective of the reporters
if there exists one
maybe like || JImmy olsen ||
or you know a story about || The Question
||
hmm?
he fits the premise of what your looking for exactly
is that the name of a comic?
iv been reading this
Man of tomorrow ||feels different once you read books with him involved the appearance thing is whatever.||
so || It's told from the perspective of a reporter/journalist MC? || the question
lucy
ya his name is "The Question" the MC
The Question - || he basically government conspiracy theorist , another rec is probably Watchman||
first thing I am reading in Nov
you can also expand and read like stuff on rorschach, who is inspired by the quesiton and its a similar vibe
i don't have exact recs, but maybe @foggy mirage does
Yeah I'll make do with comics since I couldn't find any in high fantasy
still would like it to be as detached from urban fantasy as possible
but well beggars can't be choosers
A Drop of Corruption @sage remnant ||holy shit||

Finished
third book expected to release next year
have u read divine cities by him ?
Wait one thing
A Drop of Corruption ending || is Ana a Khanum||
A Drop of Corruption ending ||I guess the implication is that she got experimented on to revive the Khanum||
yes
Time to end my sabbatical from reading
i'm going strong 17 years
no one can force me to read
Can’t wait to watch the Ohira short on Visions
He isn't
Main bruce does this shit too
Absolute annual ||you can’t convince me he didn’t just shove those batarangs through his skull ||
Absolute Batman ||this is a prequel, he specifically stops killing because he develops guilt in the mainline story, this is a story where he beats the living daylights out of a group of Neo Nazis and kills them||
Absolute Batman ||I’m happy seeing Batman eliminate Nazis tho||
God I need absolute martian to drop already
They dropped some of the covers
Evil activity
@spiral quest @frank rivet
His tactic really should be to go for the kill in the absolute universe lol
They arent trying to change the core of the character
A batman who just kills constantly would be a core change
Bro is fighting fromsoft villains
Would be like Clark smoking everyone he's fighting
And Clark would be justified too
Not constantly but maybe
Some villains
You want that read certain superman comics
Clark only packs you up if there is no choice
It would be interesting to see bruce deal with the reprecussions of not killing certain villains who than blow up like 5 hospitals
We've seen it happen already
In other realities
Wouldn't go well with main bruce
Writers just turn him into punisher with a cape
And not even a good punisher run
A bad one
Only character I can think of that handled that well was spiderman
I think given that this is an isolated universe the writers could establish arkham and gotham prisons as more than minor inconveniences for these villains. If batman knows that these guys arent gonna be on the streets again, then it would validate his no kill rule. In the main continuity, i get it. Only so many interesting villains u can write. But this is a isolated run.
Yeah not happening
Scott clearly doesn't want this batman to kill humans.
At this point people need to realize this by issue 15
Absolute batman 15 ||bane is gonna get brutalized but heavy doubt its bruce that kills him.||
Brah i didnt say he should kill ppl. Did u read my msg
I said atleast make arkham asylum and gotham prisons more effective
I did
So far has nothing to do with the run
Hence idk why you even brought that up
This is like talking about superman becoming a reporter while knowing whats happening in absolute superman rn
In the longer run tho
In the long run its gonna be mostly absolute batman ||joker related||
Honestly approved
Absolute superman latest ||very likely Kal packs up Ra's and we move on to braniac and lex proper.||
Jury is out on how green arrow is handled
Also absolute ark M
This next month
Fuck December 1
I thought that was delayed
Absolute superman 15 cover its gonna be peak
Holy
Nov 10th get here already
So I can read issue 14
@frank rivet https://youtu.be/3gM9blqKP38?si=alchDMM_c3EUa0sM
YouTube this isn't my music
Enjoy people who were looking for this
All that comes to mind seeing that cover
Absolute superman 15 ||yes kal we see the fit 😭 ||
its mad clean
Everyone's outfits are gonna end up being 20 dollar cosmetics
By injustice 3
Fucking christ
did they release a new Star Wars Visions recently?
timeline going crazy over some clean af animation
And rightfully so. The guy’s an industry legend and probably the greatest living animator
I can’t wait to watch it
did they release all episodes?
Even though I ain’t never seen a Visions episode before lmaoooo
Think so, yeah
i only saw season 1
i have been down on star wars over the years, but visions is so clean
it has great potential
Animation is a limitless medium
trying ur hardest not to say animation is cinema
Animation is cinema......
Well that’s true too
it is but the phrase "animation is cinema" has been turned into making anything cinema
minions is cinema'
when u have the dude who genuinely works on art and shit tellingh you minions is cinema
how am I supposed to fight this
i have friends at the studio. i have to defend them
uwu
wait wait how is cinema being defined here?
like the meme?
it came from guille del toro idk how to pronounce his name but his oscar speech
essentially saying animation isnt just for kids and should be treaten as a serious artfarm
but that saying has become bastardized to turn anything into cinema
oh well yeah i agree with that. but certainly some piece of animation are better than others
Minions is not really good
But Despicable Me (the first one at least) is a solid film
i don't even remember that one and I know I watched it
i watched it in theater and my friend paid for me and I still felt like I wanted my money back
I never watched past the second film
the 4th one is barely a coherent movie and rather a string of comedy scenes
they're good for mindless entertainment I guess
but the first really is fun
THE MOOOOOOON
i like the first 2
Steve Carell hard carries those movies

Welcome To Derry S01EP1 - || https://vxtwitter.com/RetroReminiscer/status/1983195473742909481 ||
Really cool art @limber urchin
oh very cool!
That's definitely a good result for the authors as a whole. Giving GRRM another side quest to fixate upon is only threading the needle further
damn Star Wars Visions is Crazy good
Its cool for me 50% of the time
Not as big of a fan for some of it
Fun visuals though
Watchin Freaks while Luigi's Mansion downloads on my Switch
This movies super interesting
Switch 2 eshops a piece of crap so it's taking 45 minutes to download a GameCube rom
isnt it supopsed to be free in virtual gc? i dont see it
maybe it does care its not 10/30 where i am
NA Twitter posted about it and it became available to me
are you west coast?
yeah maybe im 1 hour behind then
Yeah it should be up soon then
Peacemaker season 2 p big spoiler ||hbo max has the poster for peacemaker as Lex in prison. Lame to spoil that in the poster||
Watching weapons rn
Like it so far
Leningrad, one summer in the early eighties. Smuggling LPs by Lou Reed and David Bowie, the underground rock scene is boiling ahead of the Perestroika. Mike and his beautiful wife Natasha meet with young Viktor Tsoï. Together with friends, they will change the destiny of rock’n’roll in the Soviet Union.
this is the shiori experience of movies
insufferable
Shiori Experience is good and you’re wrong
But also this movie specifically isn’t good yeah
i mean you would like it
you treat media the same as the manga
vast veneration to all the greats
Ngl man that’s extremely condescending
sorry
And no I don’t do that lol, I don’t venerate all the greats
I’d be wanking off Ridley Scott or James Cameron like the rest of the world if I was that way
you have your preferences but i feel like you work backwards from "this is great" and decide why you like it or have an issue with it as opposed to trying to define a specific idea of what you like and expanding outward towards things of that sort. im not calling you wrong for doing this but shiori experience does this same thing
Lmao
Yeah Nevermind
Anyway, I watched Steve with Cillian Murphy and it was ok, the book is better
Lol
Why in the world would you chase letterboxd clout of all the social media out there
The community there is a worthless feature
I just follow friends or people who log neat stuff that wouldn't naturally end up on my own radar I ain't reading the review pages
Is letterboxd even considered social media ?
Its technically social media but only for losers
I only use it to log my movies I’ve seen
its literally just MAL for western movies
I've considered posting reviews in the past but just so I have a formal place to dump all my stray thoughts besides notepad documents and unwilling discord channels
Easier to gather my thoughts if I write em
to be honest its like any social media
Well no
unless you have a certain percentage of users that look at your stuff
no one really gonna care 😭
It’s just a diary for me
I’ve written a few reviews on it but now I can’t bother
I just feel like I have nothing interesting to say cuz I'm not a critic or writer and watch more novelty films than good ones
if you go to any movie, a good portion of the top posts are just cheesy one line puns
its literally reddit
Yeah they're shit
Well no it’s not Reddit but it has its own fair share of stupid shit on it
it does help expose some classics though, but it tends to be because people don't want to look like a basic andy and just fill their shit with stuff they would never watch IRL 😭
I gotta update my top four films cuz #4 definitely isn't suspiria anymore but the websites busted as hell on mobile and I always forget to do that when I'm at my pc
I don't think Alien, Nausicaa or Fantastic Planet are gonna fall off anytime soon they've had too dramatic an impact on my life
That’s a good top 3
Not huge on Fantastic Planet as other people but I don’t think it’s a bad film
Inglorious bastards will probably stay my favorite movie. I'v had on/off relationships with others, Alien, silence of the lambs etc..
I'm a big Rene Laloux fan Ive seen all his works besides that stupid prototype for Gandahar that's only ever shown at film festivals in New York or Paris
And I don't really wanna fly across the country for a ten minute demo reel
A Month in the Country done - short and sweet, just 120 or so pages
Onto Katabasis next
Let’s see if Kuang continues on her streak of heavy handed BS
more like anidb it's where the cinephiles elitists like to hang out
Heavy handed isnt bad
just expect lack of subtlety like Babel
Subtlety is overrated
Alien
The goat….
kojima and oda agree
what does this even mean
like how can that be overrated
Writers who are more overt with their themes arent lesser than those who handle them more subtly. Its just a thing i have noticed in discourse, where ppl discredit art for being too on the nose.
this happens especially with satire
I dont think being overt with themes is inherently bad but I think theres a level where it becomes bad
I think it just depends on how its handled. FMI kinda beats u on the head with it for example but it handles those themes really well.
@foggy mirage
speaking of critically acclaimed movies....i'm starting to come around to the fact that The Incredibles was a top 2 Pixar Movie 😭 ...i just don't know if i can put it above Finding Nemo
re watched it couple days ago
This is a reasonable take to have after a rewatch, for me it tends to be 1 or 2 also. It just has to compete with toy story for me. Nemo is like top 4 I feel
Skeptical about the new Joe Wright series on Mussolini but I’m gonna watch it soon

Intermezzo ch 11 ||this scene about Sylvia being sick and then turning into a sex scene was very odd? Lol||
Intermezzo ||seems kind of out of place||
Lmao
Intermezzo ||it’s a weird dynamic to get used to but I find the relationship better than what Peter’s annoying ass has got going||
Intermezzo ||that was a peter scene, the girl Ivan is with is margaret||
Intermezzo|| “oh jeez its so hard being in two relationships at once”||

I’m reducing it down but
Intermezzo ||oh wait it was Sylvia and Naomi right||
Sometimes it feels like that
Intermezzo ||yeah that scene where he helps her with her being sick and then it turning into a sex scene is like pretty emblematic of what their relationship basically is||
Intermezzo ch 11 ||the chapter is peter A. Going in to her apartment when she asked him to drop it off the door, and I mean sure whatever i guess its a sign but at least he helps her but then it turns into this weird hanjob thing? Lmfao||
Intermezzo ||what he has with Naomi is like a situationship I guess, or at least that’s the closest term to what it is, he’s her sugar daddy? Kind of? Idk, he’s annoying as fuck and Naomi is annoying as fuck too, Sylvia is fine||
Intermezzo ch 11|| i know he misses when they used to bang but like, cmon man||
Intermezzo|| yeah its hard to kind of tell if they really like each other, I mean I think to some extent they do, but obviously theres this whole sugar daddy “ill pay for ur rent and ur dinner and also you better not be posting scandalous pics of urself online” shit. I mean they bring it up in the book but like its kinda hard to tell if they’re using one another, and I think they dont know if they are either. Sylvia is nice I like her||
Intermezzo ||she could be a bit more communicative but like sure||
The book isn’t very subtle
Intermezzo ||what I like about Sylvia is her telling Peter as it is, she doesn’t sugarcoat||
Intermezzo ||he has the hots for Sylvia but then he also like younger women like Naomi who live on the edge||
Intermezzo ||everyone grieves in a different way I guess lmfao||
Intermezzo ||Ivan isn’t perfect either and admittedly Peter actually sticks up for the dude occasionally but i prefer Ivan and I think most people would. Hard to get behind the two women thing ||
Will probably finish it these next two days or so
It’s definitely not the best book I’ve read this year
I’ve enjoyed it
Im making it sound like I havent but intermezzo ||i think these relationships and characters are very interesting||
And also I’ve heard some complaints about her prose but I’m a big fan of it
It’s like the complete opposite of blood meridian they are two sides of the same coin
It just kinda grates at a certain point, I have a low tolerance for low stakes drama like this where if it meanders it just fuckin keeps going on and on with its pontificating bullshit
Blood meridian/Intermezzo ||blood meridian does not give a single thought behind the characters while intermezzo does the complete opposite ||
Starting to feel that a little, could maybe be trimmed down, but I think its more about exploring the depths of these characters than any meaningful plot
Blood Meridian ||the characters are metaphors, they’re vehicles for the themes explicitly, while also having a mythic quality to them||
Idk i need to go back and actually finish the book
Blood Meridian is a sprawling book about the genocide of indigenous people and the evil of American white expansion in the name of manifest destiny
I thought it was about hype moments and aura
Blood Meridian ||the Judge is pure evil of the American conquest of the west personified and given form||
Sometimes I feel like I lack historical context when I go into books like blood meridian and it makes it harder
Same thing I felt about brave new world
To an extent
arent u american
I am but i dont have a good memory man you think I was paying attention in school
In covid we were gooning and playing fortnite

Nah but like I’ll see things and I know they ARE referencing a historical event, like I’m not stupid, I’m just not well acquainted enough to know fully well what its talking about
Only that its talking about that thing
I’ve seen Americans online who absolutely refuse to learn anything from whatever they’re reading or watching, it’s just in one ear and out another, they do not bother learning context, they do not bother trying to open their eyes to new perspectives
It’s kinda sad
Not saying that’s you
nah u definitely said that
Just a tangential observation
Facts
Don’t make it obvious
Why you dissing
I’m not dissing you bro come on man
hes dissing combat magic
At least you’re putting in the effort to read extensively and understand
not wombat
For sure bro
I may not be the smartest but I have heart
And a mcflurry
just like me fr
meirl
https://www.webtoons.com/en/slice-of-life/batman-wayne-family-adventures/list?title_no=3180 my fyp is now spamming this series 😭 where the batman fans at, is this supposed to be good
I have very little interest in the writings of James Joyce man. I know this is a meme but of all the big literature names out there, Ulysses is one of those books that fills me with dread to even tackle
Never even heard of it
I don't read webtoon stuff tho
dang this web toon been going for a while
It's very lighthearted and wholesome
If that’s your jam
Adam’s jam are shitty medical dramas that drag on for way too long
wtf bro rude...
hopefully this doesn't ruin the batman
every show you ever loved will only get 3 seasons max
but arent people complaining netflix shows are too long in current discourse
stranger things
no they are complaining that they take to long to make
it takes Netflix minimum 2 years to make a season
thats pretty normal for all shows isnt it
depends on the show, but it can be normal. The problem is, how Netflix spreads a budget and how it measures that said budget
there is something nice about the Sunday night HBO experience that still even with all streaming platforms is ceremonial to this day
for that water cooler talk moment, Netflix doesn't give af about that they want everything released out and they want to measure the view time based on the first week and if the show doesn't hit top 2 viewing its basically done
Dude I feel bad for WB
I don't tbh
They're just being used by companies to offload their debt
It's been happening for decades now
Rewatched The Batman in bits and parts, Matt Reeves just gets Batman
Just like Finnegan's Wake, it's probably better to listen to the song
damn i thought wb was having a pretty good year
Matt Reeves's batman is best live action batman and what Zack snyder made was the worst
I finally watched Goodfellas last night
Loved it
And I see how big of an influence it was for The Sopranos
Also like half the cast in the film played a part in The Sopranos lol
the donna tart book ?
yoo nice
Mistborn one
mistborn secret history ||getting the behind the scenes and context of everything that happened was sick||
||also kelsier is just the goat||
It's just more emotionally impactful
Like emotional beats worked in HoA too
But Secret history || In this, it wasn't affected by issues HoA had, and it only focused on well written characters of Mistborn and like due to the context of HoA, it could only work with the important moments, hence having a overall stronger book ||
secret history ||what'd you think of the ending part with kelsier and sazed||
secret history || It tells such an impactful story, without ruining any character's moments and events of HoA ||
really good
My only issue with this book is || the epilogue and Spook's "Immortal" line hence cutting the 0.00000001 from the book. Remove that line and keep the rest of the convo as is, it would work better for the charaacter and hence would have made the book a 5/5|| Mistborn secret history
i don't remember this
secret history || when they were talking about using spikes?||
Mistborn era 2 + Secret History + RoW theory || I think with hemalurgy spike, he would create a brand of inquisitor like being but without the terrible things that Hemallurgy brought but what would create a link between him and Physical realm and having some investiture to last him ||
Yes
|| Spook being allured by "Immotallity" just kinda doesn't work for his character for me ||
secret history
|| and everything would still work without that reaction because it's kelsier and he would get people to do what he would want ||
Tress/ Secret History || Also those damn Elantrians. trying to ruin every world ||
Elantris/Mistborn secret history || I haven't read it, but with how ahead they seem to be already in Secret History, I wonder what they would achieve later. They have already figured out a way to get you connection to a Shard without the Shard giving it ||
secret history ||my memory of era 1 is already a bit hazy but I feel like spook would be the type of guy to be interested in immortality and then change his mind once he actually considered the dangers||
I've never been one for getting deep into characters so ill take your word for it
are you gonna go into era 2 or not yet
not yet
Strength of the Few is releasing in 10 days

Ironside is a Universal television series that ran on NBC from Sept...
About 1/3 or halfway done with Frankenstein (not exactly sure since the book didn't actually start til quite a ways in due to Forwards and all that). But holy god, Mary Shelly is a painter when it comes to words, I love her writing style.
She wrote the book at 18 too, which is astonishing
You reading a book made by a teenage goth girl
Enjoy
From over 200 years ago at that
Published on new year's day of 1818
Setting being the late 1700s
Does this make the book bad??
well she seems smarter than the goth girls from my mid-2000s high school days (not a high bar to clear).
On Goda's birthday.....holy shit.
Goda
I knew this name was of Wombat
My greatest work yet
her portrait is pretty sick
Done with October reads. 2 3.5, 1 4.5 and 1 5/5
good month
November TBR:
- Strength of the few by James Islington
- The Way Station by Clifford D. Simak
- A Prayer for the Crown shy by becky chambers
she was 18 bro
ok this makes sense
She wasn’t
She identified as a romantic (different definition)
ah ok
Romanticism here is a literary movement
Mary Shelley’s husband was Percy Shelley who’s an iconic Romantic poet in his own right
I dint say it was bad
Check your preconceived biases about goth girls sab
Oh it just seemed like a fun fact
was Frankenstein classified as romantacism in her eyes?
Yes, all of her circle were Romantic authors and poets
It was written in the circumstance of a competition too I think
i will read the rest going forward with that in mind
Isnt frankenstein super short
wait she wrote it at 18 and as a part of a competition
she might have been the opposite of a skill issue
Frankenstein - up to halfway ||although one critique is i'm not the biggest fan of some her longer sentences. i don't know if i would call them run-on, but they are sometimes jampacked and i have to double back to reread sometimes||
Keats, Blake, Coleridge, Bysshe Shelley (Mary Shelley’s husband), Wordsworth, Lord Byron, Blake - all of these are well known male Romantic poets
damn i only know Mary lol
my literature skills in the mud
wait....lord byron. that might ring a bell
Not even Wordsworth?
Wordsworth is a tough name
point and laugh at me
He’s American
Probably not
Ok that’s not nice
Americans do read a lot of poetry
i've read since i was a child, but games, even to this day, are my go-to medium for entertainment. in the past year i've been trying to reverse this at night with books. Right now I'm reading Frankenstein and a tome called "The Bible Unearthed: Archaeology's New Vision of Ancient Israel and the Origin of Its Sacred Texts"
i was never a fan of poetry (sadly I assume). and i had a poor public school education in general (with a few good and memorable teachers).
You should try Wordsworth and Robert Frost
Robert Frost I've definitely heard
Ye he's American
I have a few classics under the hood, but probably nothing compard to you and Harsh.
Harsh is again on another level to me
Richard Wright's "Native Son" was a favorite of mine in high school, but the larger social commentary was probably a little lost on me at the time
I probably just have read more fantasy than him and even in that I am not certain
I’m still lacking in the poetry department
but when it comes to books, i for sure default to sci-fi/fantasy. but I also like horror and classics
Need to read more of the beatnik poets
Probably gonna end up finishing intermezzo today
I just pickednit because it had chess on the cover
I didnt know it was a popular book/aurhor
The cover lied but its okay
The idea is that the relationships in the book are as complex as a chess game
Sally Rooney got the idea during the COVID lockdown while her husband was playing chess online
Yeah yeah
Whatever
Its not about chess
You’re the worst
I don’t even like this fucking book idk why I’m discussing this shit
Lmfao
Its a solid time
I think its one thats probably more interesting to talk about
I think Wombat take's depends but in this case he's wronf
Solid time in getting me to sleep for sure
?????
Have you read the book?
oh that's wombat? without the yellow name I was so confused
I’m in my emo sadboy era
my condolences.
Cliff hanger is awesome lol
Absolute Green lantern when asked about ||alien ones||
Absolute evil #1 questions good stuff here
Absolute Batman
||I love it so much||
I have read 10 books this year
Yippee!!!!
They might try to do 15 but I’m not tryna stat pad by reading smaller books
I read the five main Stormlight books and The Name of the Wind. I'm gonna count each Stormlight book as three books, so I've read 16 books this year so far.
I’ve read 3 and then i also read 3 game of thrones books
congratulations on reading 18 books!
Welcome to Derry - Episode 2 + IT novel ||Man, what a fantastic episode! Great tension and drama and the kids can act so well to boot. And while both scenes of Pennywise terrorizing the kids are great with solid VFX work, the one in the bedroom was so psychologically damaging to Ronnie, I could feel it in my bones. And yet still no clown form, they really are saving it. Now, I've read the book, but I don't remember mention of objects buried around Derry that are related to Pennywise's power, so I'm not sure what the car was at the end. Perhaps it was in the novel and I'm just forgetting?||
Been on candy duty all night need to watch the new episode
This show is really good so far
I should read more western stuff but not sure where to acess it
i mean i have bought alot of graphic novels
Bone is a barticular favorite
Bone mentioned
Army of Darkness was a good time
Not what I expected and I think the most inconsistent of the three but one I'll definitely rewatch
When that films firing on all cylinders it's fuckin hysterical
Finished intermezzo
@modern lichen intermezzo ||I know you didnt like the book but what am I supposed to get out of that peter ending? I know, relationships are complicated but it felt a tad too like. Happy ending. “Oh yeah we both know this is going on but who cares we both want you anyways” i mean, idk, i guess even they in the book say it’s not normal but it’s quite a conclusion to come to
||
Baby finished its first adult book
Intermezzo ||that fuckin conversation between Peter and those 2 girls, man, I couldn’t even bother feigning interest ||
Intermezzo ||i’m glad for Ivan though||
Intermezzo ||yeah Ivan’s story is nice sure||
Wait what counts as an adult book
Intermezzo ||I think Peters is more interesting just cause of simply the direction it takes lmfao. Was not expecting that ending||
I will say
I read a ton of genre fiction so I may be boned lmao
Sally Roone is bold for that
I’m just joking but this is presumably Wombat’s first literary fiction book that he finished
Intermezzo ||“yeah this isn’t a normal situation but who says we have to solve it normally” and then they all had threesomes and everyone clapped and peter didnt want to kill himself anymore||
Bravo roone
Idk man I’m just having a hard time buying it
Maybe I really just a stupid fucking idiot guy…
Ahh good ol literary fiction
I think yeah
Unless farenheit 451 counts
I dont really know what defines literary fiction
Intermezzo ||her prose was really good, and I still do like the characters even if I’m grasping at what the point is of peter in the end. Does all this shit just to end up livin the good life anyways 😭 ||
I think I do get it
I just don’t agree with it
Idk lol
Lmfao
Intermezzo ||these two girls meet each other off screen and theyre both just completely cool with each other. Which I mean i guess makes sense its peter whos been doing everything not them but like, theres not an ounce of drama there????? ||
Genre fiction is sci fi/ fantasy
?
Stuff like that
Seems contrived
It is
That distinction always feels somewhat derogatory to me
It does to me too
1984 is scifi
Ye
Which is a shame because stuff like The Left Hand of Darkness is something in rare air in literature
It's an amazing work of social scifi
That being said when I want to seem not so uhhh swords and spaceships pilled
I will say "oh I have Master and Margarita on my shelf"
The shame of sci fi fantasy in some reader circles is nuts
So silly lol
I was in a writer's club when I first moved to the Seattle area. I left after a few meetings because it was kinda clear that they thought lesser of me for wanting to write fantasy
Write that book and be more popular than them 😎
You already have 1 interested reader
Ur shitty knights and swords could never understand the depth of new york
At the end of the day it’s just fiction
I wrote some as well
it was very Meh and like novella length
I want to write
Yes I completed some
Writing a book is something of a bucket list thing for me
And I’m not gonna share them
I need to just stop being a bitch
I did sold like close to 700 copies, but had to go to places to sell them myself
and had parents' support in that
Dude that's sick af
Whenever I start something i realize im bad then get upset even though I know that im just starting and I supposed to be bad
What would you say was the most difficult part of the writing process
But then i look and get embarrassed
Editing
That is sick
Yeah editing
Editing is always the hardest process
Hmmm
I edit my manuscript like 5-6 times at minimum
I did like 2 times and yea
1000 words per day is good in my books
Don’t look at it in page count
6 years for 30k words
Look at it in word count
And also
In my method, for the first draft, just vomit those 1000 words out and then I go about correcting the next day and then write 1000 words again
I want to do that.
My recent WIP have always been stuff that need research so I have to pause
Do you write linearly, like from start of the story to the end
I write in parts
So I have different documents and then compile
You never know which scene you wanna tackle first and you might wanna tackle scenes in order of importance
I wrote linearly for my published one.
For the other WIP, I write scenes that I get the urge to write then. So non linearly
It’s like how you shoot a film
No one ever shoots a film linearly
If ever rarely
I think I am gonna do that then. I used to just go start to finish but I am used to short stories
I don’t do shorts stories linearly either
I have like 4 main ideas for stories and I want to complete at least one before I die
I just write a bunch of scenes keeping continuity in mind and then compile
good luck ❤️

I mean, that’s specifically my method, try and see if it works for you Sab
Classic Red
Yo
Gotta recognize all parties
Isn’t November National writing month
True true
Or something
Anything to make you feel bad bro
But really yall are really cool
I hope your story has plot holes
Mine has plenty
Mine doesn’t have any because I also outline
I had been bit down on writing but knowing you guys have done it and completed books, it makes it feel like I can sit down and try at least
I want to at least try to write a short story or something
Account for all the holes that can be poked, and it’s fine to have conveniences, like story convenience but if the story you’re telling is like immersive enough, the audience will buy into those conveniences
Start smaller cause I aint even done that
give yourself the target of this and next month
I’ve written a collection of short stories
That’s what I’m going to do this month
A short story per week
I should at least try it
I should write more in English. I have a couple of old WIP but they all require more research and my English ain't that good
Start today
What do you have to lose by trying….
Nothing really
Nanowrimo is a perfect excuse to just dive into it
^
The hell is a nanowrimo
I think I was always worried of writing a bad book
National Novel Writing Month
Sarah J Mass is a best seller
But I guess I cant be worse than the AI slop on Amazon
Na No Wri Mo
Yeah it will be bad probably but u cant make diamons without coal
Get comfortable in the mud
True. I don't have a Court of Thornes and Roses in me
Thank god
I am gonna try to be good with the mud
I’m projecting
Stand alone high fantasy from you I guess sab?
What is the difference between high fantasy and like
Fantasy
Is high fantasy just conventional? Like tolkien esq?
Different world is high fantasy
Scope would be Epic
Dark Tower was kinda an inspiration but at the same time only for the gunslinger portion
It's just arbitrary def
makes it easy
I also like the idea of a western style fantasy world. So yes high fantasy but not in the swords and sorcery way
Nice
We shall see. I hope
I like cowboys for the aura but i dont know if I axtually like cowboys because i never really bothered reading or watching a western but like
Cowboys are cool??!?? They use guns?????
I grew up in a family that loved Westerns
My grandpa had scores of Louis L'Amour books
Nice
Watched plenty of em too, they are samurai movies but with guns
I saw this book i might get i saw at barnes and nobles next time im there because i liked the cover
Look at how yellow it is
Idk what its about i dont tead synopsis because im not a pussy
Hell nah
That's how I ended up with a couple of DNFs
Crimefic
When I go into a book store I am aiming for 4 books
Bro getting books but not tryin read
Interesting
Bang.
- A sequel to something I’m currently reading
- A wild card, just something I’ve personally thought looked good, anything at all
- Something more literature focused/classic
- A book based on the cover
These are the things i get
Goyta keep it spiced up
Thats what I did last time
I have a rule rn for book shopping because I went overboard
I dont think it gets any more overt than this bro
might have an issue
I usually know what books are out there and what I want to read so rarely do I buy anything that I already didn't know about
I have to finish or at least try 4 books before I buy 1
I am currently 1 book away from my next byy
Buy
My goal is
Get The Tainted Cup Sab
To read 6 books before i buy the next 4
fantasy murder mystery
So that way I catch up with my catalogue while also getting new ones
Tainted Cup. Why does that sound familiar
I recommended it to Harsh and he really loved it
Prolly cuz I recced it once before
I have 1 down and i have a couple shorter ones i need to knock out cause they been sitting on my shelf
Robert Jackson Bennett
Oh that's uh
Need to go back and finish 20 thousand leagues and shit
city of Stairs.
Founsryside
I know that dude
FOUNDRYSIDE
That's it
I need to read those first I think
They are on my tbr
I need to read more cosmere but tbh I am taking a Sando break
I’m gonna finish stormlight then take one
I am reading legend of drizzt rn for a quick break
Mistborn almost made me take one but Mistborn Secret History really made the overall experience more positive for me
Tbh his prose is so simple and again i try not to beat a dead horse but it can be real hard to get through
I am so hesitant to start mistborn era 2
I think I would like it more
I understand that
I didn't like era 1 much
Like I really started to feel it in oathbringer
He's not exactly brimming with poetic lines
HoA is a really bad book for me
And WoA really had a meh end act
Its like its really interesting to read but its boring to actively read
If that makes sense
HoA is very divisive
Oathbringer end|| some of those dalinar flashback chapters had great prose||
I have read simple bad prose
I think his simple prose both a strength and a weakness
You know who I rather enjoy prose wise? Scott Lynch
I think its almost a strength in thr action/hype scenes whatever you wanna call them
But when its like
His voice is fairly captivating for me
I think of the modern fantasy authors I only like Robin Hobb's prose
and uhh VE Schwab in Addie Larue
Yeah for sure wombat
VE Schwab praise
Robin Hobb too but I am taking a break on slow books
I have only read Addie Larue from her and its among my fav books
Tad Williams killed me earlier in the year
The Dragonbone Chair is the slowest fucking book
Very pretty
But holy moly
I heard great things. I have her Shade of Magic stuff
Quick question, anyone read Empire of the Vampire?
These are the books I’ve read Check out my profile on Goodreads!
https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/186869114 :D
Without spoilers how graphic are we talking
Why did they do this?
It's p darn gory and brutal
Hmmm
Yoooooo
Worse than a GoT?
1 book
uhh I think similar
Also Wombat, switch to Hardcover
Not in the mood for it
break amazon monopoly
Id this like mal vs anilist
I use storygraph myself
Goodreads looks like it eas made in 2009
Well. Recently using storygraph anyway
and is very community friendly
like feature request submission and they implement most voted ones
Nicee
I needed out of goodreads
Yeah I made storygraph for it
I was spending more time in GR than I liked
So crazy to me project hail mary is as popular as it is
Not a fan?
People rave about the audio book for that and for Dungeon Crawller Carl
DCC is a good litrpg
The audio book for PHM is really good
Is DCC that good?
I had a table at work talking about DCC
people praise it cuz other litrpg are p darn bad
I was gifted a copy
Yeah it's like that in the sense it's intended to be pure fun and nothing else
I'll keep it in mind after a heavy read
Woulda been nice after I read the Belljar
Btw
I hate the Belljar
Idk if that's gonna be a bad take but
Holy lord I dislike that book
Will probably go back to Blood meridian with intermezzo finished
How you enjoying it?
Blood meridian ||its kinda hard reading a book with no internal thoughts whatsoever ||
Got like 3 chapters in
I keep saying man, that's not my ideal Cormac McCarthy starting place for peeps but kudos for you to try it
I mean I might give it another go
If i do im gonna restart it since i only got like 30 pages in lol
Sorry for your loss
It happens
Japanese steel too strong
I heard popular thing so i tried it was all
We try again tomorrow one last time
Scripted
Otani bring us up
Probs but I had a great year
Ohtani
I love saying scripted
I think No Country for Old Men is my favorite of his work
You should watch the assassination of Jesse James
These are the shorter books I have sitting here
I have this on my to read list
Becsuse you told me to
I have a long time ago, good ass shit
I have not forgotten
It came out in the same year as old country and there will be blood but literally no one talks about it
The movie I mean. The book is really good too
Probably gonna read like 2 or 3 of the shorter ones then hop into Rhythm of war
My favorites are 3:10 to Yuma, True Grit, No Country for Old Men, and probably the Good the Bad and the Ugly
Hella you got some good titles there bud
I also rec Piranesi but that's a booktube book that gets rec'd a lot
The the shelf I’ve been building slowly
The one next to intermezzeo is house of leaves
Ayeeeee the only 3 good books of Dune
Also theres the oppenheimer book but its across the room

I started last year around this time actually
Niceee
Funny to say i owe it to game of thrones
Welcome to it
God Emperor of Dune is the best one...
Dune to le mis I havent read
Dune to Les Mis would be certainly an experience
I need to go back and finish that
Dune to Les Mis holy shit
Maybe i do that now becsuse its still near spooky season
Le mis is a Goliath man
I’m scared
I am trying to think of the longest novel I own that isnt like The Wizard of Earthsea collection
Maybe one of the Wheel of Time books
Unless Stormlight is longer
Wind snd truth will probably be the biggest one i get it
Half a million words
What compels a man
touche
I think I have even then, and I labeled every series
I think Stormlight is longer than any WoT books
It probably is
The biggest I own is LoTR
I am looking at my shelves rn and just judging by looks
I have piory of orange tree
Cuz I have Stormlight in gollancz's two parter edition
