The way of kings part 3 end ||it was definitely weird and fascinating. But now it seems 3/4 of our main cast have their schizo moments now. Shallan has her mysterious voice that talked to her. Kaladin saw a weird face in the darkness and had the dream where he was seeing everything (very cool that he saw szeth when he was murdering the king of jah keved.). Dalinar obviously has his visions. Now just szeth who hasn’t had much of a presence in the book so far||

The way of kings part 4 beginning ||no shallan this part. It’s so over man. Szeth is very cool though. I wonder when he will actually get exposure in the book. The void bringers are more interesting now as well.||

the two things i dislike is that it sometimes comes off as a little crass/juvenile, especialy in the beginning. And its a bit too over systemized. Like theres a (imo too long) paragraph explaining all the stats, limitations, interactions, etc of all the magic items the heroes get. The crass/juvenile aspect is especialy bad in the beginning but improves over time both being reeled back a bit and being recontextualized wrt the worldbuilding

the good is hard to exactly put into words but its something a lot of anime have where they set up these constructs that naturally draw your interest. Like in one piece, the 7 warlords naturally makes you wonder what the other warlords are gonna be like and how luffy might interact with them. In carl its early vague discussion like oh on the third floor of the dungeon X happens, then on the sixth floor Y happens, etc. It naturally makes you wana get there and see it.

and the worldbuilding takes a while to get going but is actually pretty good once it hits its stride.

Can't tell if I like Tomb Raider 2018 more or less than the Angelina Jolie films

In some ways it's a huge step forward and in other ways it's a tremendous step backwards. More relatable and grounded Lara at the expense of her agency, a better woven mystery but all the clues are laid out ahead of time so there's no tension in the solutions cuz we know where it's going

I think it's a worse adaption of the Reboots than the early 00s films were of the classic games too? But it bridges the new ideas with classic TR's portrayal of Lara with it and the general structure of the LAU era in a way the games themselves ended up failing at by the end of Shadow

Hard to judge something that's a film reboot based on a game reboot in a franchise that's also been rebooted before either of these happened. Where does authenticity begin and end, and to what degree does that become an excuse for the film being dorky and incoherent?

But more importantly I enjoyed the “conclusions” to kaladin dalinar adolin and shallan. Dalinar especially. It was great, and I can’t wait for Sadeas to get his due. Kaladin was amazing throughout this whole book, and adolin while not as important was a great character in his own right. Shallan was cool, idk why people hate her. She had a good arc and is now going into great and more interesting plot threads. Like stopping the void bringers and what now. There were so many twists that got me. The biggest was Taravangian. That dude is vile
At first I was confused by Szeths lack of focus this book but now I see the purpose in it and it works well. He’s a dope character. This whole paragraph is a mess. Good book||

Wednesday, season 2, episodes 1-3 ||So far, I'm having a grand time with it. Absolutely love that Morticia, Gomez, and Pugsly have bigger roles to play directly in Wednesday's school life, and the mystery behind who controls the crows or ravens has me intrigued (for now I'm assuming it's the thin lady/doctor who runs the psyche ward. or is it a prison?). The only real critiques I have so far come from Pugsly's actor and Luiz Guzman as Gomez. On the one hand, I adore how into the role Luiz gets, but at the same time something at times feels off (it may be the way he talks or slowly enunciates his words, but I can't quite put my finger on it). Pugsly just feels like he's still early in his career. Also, final note, not a big fan yet of the jock dude with the godawful mullet that Enid is dating over her previous boyfriend. Last but not least, for the fourth episode, I'm expecting we get to see Morticia's mother, and it's either going to be Rita Moreno or Anjelica Huston (the actress for Morticia in the 90s films). Also, while I sorely miss Gwendoline Christie as the principal, Steve Buscemi is growing on me as a pretty good sleezeball who is cruelly blackmailing Bianca. P.S. I'm mega excited that Billie Piper is in this as she's one of my favorite actresses; and I think she is the red herring for who is really controlling the birds (recasting a new redhead to mislead you since a redhead was the villain in season one).||

Avengers endgame ||I think the time travel stuff serves it's purpose in Iron Man and Steve's personal arcs, they're by far the best parts of the movie and the characters it needed to center on. So to that extent I think it works

But iron man solving time travel by moving around a few nodes in his hologram Windows 11 is limp and a weak justification for it within the story itself. And I can't remember literally anything else that happens in the movie before the finale||

Avengers endgame ||I remember Nebula feeling weird and out of character||

My issue just happens with avengers endgame ||everything related to the time travel, and how easily Tony gets over everything. Them skipping everything after the snap just din't click for me. The final fight though is fan service central though.||

Avengers Endgame || I think the concept of time travel does apply in the way you're describing. But the majority of that time travel segment that lasts like 30-45 minutes is just goofy antics trying to acquire the stones and failing. And quite frankly I do not care about these characters enough to like that.

I like Gamora and Nebula, so I actually enjoyed their sections the most. Rocket is cool too. I didn't find Nebula to be out of character tbh. The only thing that was odd to me is that I think the nebula we know would have turned and helped her future self and gamora after gamora's proposal to fight against thanos together. As soon as Nebula found out in GOTG 1 about how powerful the stone would make blue forgettable villain I forgot the name of, she was immediately on board with killing thanos. So that part I do agree was out of character.

He did conveniently solve time travel by swiping his finger and saying "make a mobius strip" and thats that. That sucked yeah lol.

And then of course it has one of the worse scenes in any marvel movie with the forced girl power moment. How are like the 12 main women amongst their allies the only ones to show up next to captain marvel to help 😭 The slow pan to show all them made me wince.||

The first movie always hits different for a series of movies.

with Batman 2022 for me it was the whole way in which story was told

certain mystery certain allure that is v reminiscent of what Batman should be.

every piece of dialogue in The Batman feels purposeful. Every shot has so much personality to it, and sells the atmosphere of the scene so well. The audio aides that. Gotham feels like Gotham for the first time. Every character feels respectful to their comic origins while also feeling extremely fresh among batman movies

issue with Nolan's trilogy for me is that it just feels like any other big blockbuster movie in both visuals and audio

and the story hardly focuses on batman himself

The Batman || I think we got one. The riddler is extremely unnerving. Hes not a likeable character in the same sense Penguin is. But the thing about batman, is that the freaks (as in supervillains as opposed to regular mob bosses) all come to be as a result of batman. Batman inspires them to become what they are. So we're seeing the origin of villains in this universe. Riddler doesn't feel as grand as a result of this, I think||

The Batman ||theres also that really cool moment where it seems like riddler figured out batman was bruce wayne. It seems like thats why hes obsessed with him. But it turns out, he actually just saw him as someone that similarly wanted to end the corruption in gotham. He thought he could win batman over. Bruce wayne was seen by riddler as the final target, as someone related to the source of that corruption as he sees it (the charity funds that the mob bosses took). I thought that was a good way to show the riddler as being an imperfect "detective" himself. Right after riddler criticizes batman for not being as smart as he thought he was||

MCU Spiderman || I really like Vulture but that movie feels very silly narratively and isn't as visually fun to watch. Still p good though. Too much iron man.
Quentin Beck was a step up in most ways. Still annoying how important Iron man/stark is to the plot, but whatever. The fight sequences were really impressive, and it felt a lot more personal. That first mysterio fight was really cool.
No Way Home does a lot to respect the legacy of these spiderman movies. I still cant stand how obsessed MCU is with giving Peter a mentor character. Dr Strange didn't need to fill the role. But I thought it was a lot more emotional than the previous two. Holland's acting during the May death scene sold the scene. I have issues with how silly the plan was of healing everyone in an apartment building with none of them being tied up or anything, but since it was May's plan that she pushed on Peter, it feels less contrived.

Green Goblin performance was top tier. Really sweet moments like Andrew Garfield saving MJ since he wasn't able to save the one from his world. ||

MCU Spiderman ||ending was really good with everyone forgetting him, and him deciding to let MJ live without him to protect her. The next movie has a lot of potential to finally give a proper neighborhood spiderman story, but I have a feeling they still won't do it despite all the setup they've done||
