The issue is that I don't think superheroes are GENERALLY cool at a baseline. I think superpowers are most of the time pretty fucking corny. So the best superhero films to me, end up being ones that feel more intimate with fewer characters and less spectacle. When you bring these characters together, its going to be for some grander threat or for the sake of fanservice spectacle etc. And I don't find the powers cool

Godzilla 2014 ||Godzilla atomic breathing the muto down the throat is so cool it single handedly salvaged the film from being under All Monsters Attack, cuz I was really considering it until the last 5 minutes||

The Goonies was pretty good. ||It's got a bit of everything needed a kids adventure flick to make it fun. I particularly liked how authentically kiddy and silly the younger actors were. If there were a group of kids and teens working together to find treasure, they'd act exactly like this in their adventure. Such chaotic and goofy interactions from the kids can get a bit obnoxious at times for me personally, so it can be charming to a fault. Can tell early on the Key Huy Quan really gave it his all in the roles he played in. I liked it. ||

KotM is basically a late stage showa movie with the sense of grandiose scale those films lack and even though it has the same pitfalls in the human writing and maybe the worst character in the whole franchise with Vera Farmiga's role it better contextualizes why they're around and I was into it start to finish

It was just a spectacle with enough going on to frame it and enough charisma in its minor characters that it held my interest despite how silly and one dimensional it was

Also, somehow had more poignant allegory and environmental commentary than the first film?? When this was dumb fun and that one was trying so fucking hard to be ABOUT something that it ends up being about nothing.

Lady bird ||It's a coming of age movie however it's very honest with what it does and explores, though I can't relate to the mother daughter's connection at all. A huge portion of the movie is about her mothers toxicity towards her, her mother works hard as nurse and supports her family members, however it's not a get out of jail free card for dodging a healthy emotional response to your child||

||Like cmon not speaking to your daughter for months because she didn't apply to a school you like?? taunting them for every single little thing, the dress scene for example was pretty cringe to me||

how is that relevant to what is being talked about, its adapting characters and storylines and tweaking them in order to suit its narrative purposes, characters that primarily belong to comics are being bought to film and TV through adaptation and then a narrative is created by placing these adapted characters in stories both original and derivative from the original medium, that's not a reboot or a complete overhaul

The stories they tell (afaik) they take some big points from some popular existing stories and create a new one with those elements.

It's also just not adaptation changes as its not a consistent/single source material.

If that still counts as adaptation, then my definition of adaptation needs to be broadened
