he was good in school of rock and tenacious d
I definitely prefer Jim Carrey to him in the category of comedic actors who are always the same sort of comedic
Carrey also did eternal sunshine so more points to him
Has jack black ever done a meaningfully serious role
Bernie sort of counts I guess
Dudes great in Jackson's King Kong
comedians who also act in movies find their niche and keep doing the same thing for the rest of their lives
at least you have the likes of adam sandler and jim carrey who try something completely different to throw everyone off and then go back to the same shit
yeah, and punch drunk love which was the one everyone parroted for years
ah okay
I just refreshed myself on this film, I think I saw it in theaters? I remember reading he was basically playing orson welles
damn I always forget people here are old :kekhands:
I was a baby during then
okay now that I'm on a computer.
WAT full || Thoughts on
- The whole Clash of Champions, especially how it ended.
- Honor's POV (this was possibly my fav section of the book. Caught me by surprised, really loved how it fitted to the overall story and Dalinar's decision at the end
- Szeth being able to finally fight to his fullest without the fear or grief of causing harm
- "I am not a thing. I am my own agent. I make my own decisions."
- Unoathed
- Adolin's entire character arc.
- Kaladin's entire character arc of what he wants to do and the whole segment of him seeing his past selves and yeah that entire portion.
- The ending chapter.
||
wat || adolins entire arc is incredible, he was cool before but ever since the trial he just shot up my rankings and then his fight vs skibidi and the unoathed scenes
bro was always being nice to everyone since chapter 1 without caring about stupid oaths or anything he just cared ||
wat || and the payoff to it all was just insanely good ||
about this
WaT ch 131 || In Oathbringer, Wit says that there was a time when he had failed so badly and had ran away from everything and just do nothing, not be there when someone needs help like he usually is. I think that was related to Ashyn ||
WaT || That whole sequence leading to Unoathed is just pure cinema ||
stormlight || my favorite characters ins the series are now: kaladin > taravangian > adolin > dalinar ||
My list hasn't changed much I think
|| Szeth
Dalinar
Lift
Adolin
Kaladin
Shallan
I am not sure where Todium will fit, but he will be high. Taravangian was already interesting and the whole interludes with Todium did wonders for his character ||
WaT end
My top 1 has been the same one since book 1 to 5 damn

lol
WaT end || Man Adolin's is just so immaculate till the end. The whole "He will try to understand his father, reading his own words" is just so emotional ||
does me in everytime
Easier to just send a JPEG of my responses due to character limitations. WAT end
WAT end ||Promises>Oaths||
Yeah I knew that was coming lol
I don't hate it I promise you that
It's definitely good.
I think it's just cuz of me liking that character more than you
I don't know who my favorite characters are for sure yet.
I was sure on top 1 ever since Prologue of book 1
and I haven't been disappointed ever since

Though I think I can confidently say that Stormlight spoilers everything ||Dalinar may be one of the best characters I've experienced in fiction.||
🐐
yeah that was crazy
I hadn't thought anything might surpass that for me and then I read RoW || Kaladin 4th Ideal ||
Hm, although I still think TWOK's sanderlanche is still my favorite.
the build up to it is poetic
For me it's
OB
WaT
TWOK
RoW
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
WoR
wat || kaladins arc was pretty much done after the 4th ideal so I was expecting him to not be the focus in this book and him learning how to be a therapist from wit is actually better than just doing the same shit he did in previous books imo ||
wat || also heralds are not gods ||
WaT || Kaladin's truly happy and peaceful for the first time since Roshone ||
||Like first time in 12 years 😭 ||
wat || and hes actually gonna help the heralds especially my other goat taln so whats not to like ||
wat || Im so fucking hyped to see those 2 together |||
WaT || For me, this book was more of a payoff to his character arc than like part of his character arc sort of ||
It works wonderfully for me cuz of that
BTW WAT end ||It seems the general consensus online is that his whole MCU-like dialogue about being a therapist at the end is cringe. I fucking loved it though. It was set up well enough and had just the perfect balance of cheese.||
that's the thing buffy
It's set up
and is no bad than the earlier books
heck WoR had more cheesiness and that
i know, but they almost feel like, i guess, demigods or something like that at times
The issues many people seem to have with the language of this book, I had those with WoR
Fucking WAT end ||Ishar be like, "This isn't even my final form" to Kaladin. powerscaling be crazy.||
tbf
WaT end || I fucking love powerscaling in this series||
WAT end || Like with oaths, and how they unlock power. Like a massive power increase can occur and it feels organic ||
oh oh
I forgot to ask
WAT end || what did you think of our goat Nightblood controlling his uncontrolled investiture sucking ||
Ah
Also || about the Gavinor thingy, there were several hints || WaT end
I had predicted that while reading
I sure as hell didn't. I would need a careful reread and a youtube analysis at the same time.
also || Maya MVP
""Life after Death. I never really understood that motto anyway. Let's kick some Fused ass" || WaT end
🧎♂️➡️
WaT end|| Elhokar's voice continuously talking to him.
Then Gavinor seeing Dalinar beating the shit out of Elhokar and burning Rathalas.
Plus the statement that they could age up to old when days might have passed outside.
I mean, it was builded up well imo ||
I love her so much
wat || yea it was so obvious it was obvious it was gonna be gavinor lol ||
Ahhh shit good points. especially the last one lol
wat even before that || all the introspection of him talking about revenge and showing off his bottled hatred ||
oh
I copied it from my convo in dg server
was mostly alternating posting here, 17th shard, and there while reading
wat || I always suspected it was gonna be someone close to dalinar, either jasnah, adolin or gavinor ||
oh yeah btw on that
WaT || Lift MVP ||
wat || adolin especially this book was talking so much about hating his dad that was definitely to throw people off ||
just love her voice and perspective on stuff so much
wat || now shes gonna train with vasher shit is gonna get serious ||
wat || jasnha getting absolutely dogwalked by taravangian was insane, he destroyed her entire career ||
OK. I think I compiled my favorite moments in the series. There are probably many more I'm forgetting that could be better, but these are the ones that stand out to me.
peak
oooh i disagree on #9 lmao
wat || I'd put adolin vs skibidi there too||
me like
the pacing of that whole section makes WoR my least fav stormlight book
wat || and every single taln scene is peak not just that one ||
that was very good
oh right
no || "I am unity" ? || WaT all
as in the whole portion from || You cannot have my pain to that ||
WOR ||My thought process is that Brandon wanted him to die in the gutters with no glory or fanfare. something I felt he deserved, if not worse. Granted, in hindsight, one could argue that Dalinar maybe deserved it for all the horrors he committed (but maybe not Adolin).||
For some reason, while I do love that moment, I don't think I loved it as much as others do.
damn
stormlight || one of the first scenes in the series when kaladin is about to jump into the chasm and he stops because syl came back (after he thought she left him) and syl is like carrying a leaf for him because she thought it was important to him (it was a poison leaf kalading used to carry around but he lost it but she had no idea) ||
yeah I love those moments you mentioned but like my top 5 are all from OB to WaT lol
that entire scene is just a gut punch
stormlight || and that finally giving kaladin the will to fight again||
that was the chapter that got me hooked to Stormlight
made me cry for the first time in this series too
If you want to know what honestly caught my attention with Stormlight, it was TWOK ||Immediately after the prologue. "3400 Years Later." I love shit like that.||
What I didn't expect to happen was for me to Stormlight Archive ||Lose care in Jasnash. After the first book, she just didn't impress me as much.||
Stormlight all ||
My list would be
- "I accept it Stormfather. I accept that there will be those I cannot protect"
- "You cannot have my pain"
- "I'd wanna go dancing with Syl"
- "Teft was worth saving" (fuck moash)
- Entire Szeth's arc in this book ||
fuck there are too many to make a proper list
it's like 5-6000 pages, god only knows how many good moments there are.
stormlight || yea she was kinda underutilized but what did you think of taravangian destroying her entire philosophy she based her entire life on ||
For me it's crazy like there are more in one book than 4 combined for me
WAT end || The craziest part of it is
She wasn't destroyed by Todium. She was fated to lose by Diagram that Taravangian when he was human had created ||
that was the best part of the entire thing for me
I trust brando to not let any bum adapt it but that also means its gonna take forever
It sucks we have to wait so long for book 6.
sadge
WaT end || Todium didn't really came to debate properly with Jasnah. He wouldn't have beaten her at a proper debate. He just started with the first time Jasnah had gone against her views (saving Renarin in OB) and then just kept up the momentum ||
wat || imma say it again tara is one of the greatest villains in all of fiction even before his ascension ||
oh btw
WaT end ||
The first arc of Stormlight started by Kaladin losing his brother.
The arc ended with Kaladin getting to save someone who had been in a place similar to Tien ||

WAT end ||I'm fucking terrible with things like philosophy and its related disciplines. But it felt wrong to me. I thought Jasnah would be way better at this - but I guess the whole point was that she was too logical and didn't appeal to Fen's emotions. It also made me kind of not like Fen. But she was always a stubborn and emotionally driven character, so her decisions make sense in context.||
Yeah this is what it worked for me
WaT end || Jasnah would be better than that, but she saw the direction Todium went at just too late ||
Yeah, this I did love. WAT ||Viewing Szeth from the lens of being Tien made me really connect with him. And in that regards, his journey with Kaladin was worth it.||
It's such a full circle
OH and
WaT end ||
Sebarial to Dalinar about Gavilar just pretending to follow the Codes, while Dalinar went on and became it ||
WaT end || Was already on Fuck Gavilar after RoW Prologue. WaT prologue just made me way too sad for Dalinar ||
Oh shit wait. Man. Stormlight Archive ||I wish we got more of Sebariel, he's like one of the best underutilized characters. I love that dude. Life goals.||
wat || there was nothing jasnah could do that wouldn't make you and everyone else hate her, if she followed thru with her world view she would've killed renarin, aesudan, fen or literally anyone who posed a threat to kholinar or the world. But that would just make her as bad as taravangian. ||
so its up to you to decided if thats what you wanted of her
I think the character like his will be like not as good if they are given more screentime Buffy
Like they work due to how less their pagetime/screentime are and how they shine in that
wat || imo I'd rather have jasnah be a good person instead of the emotionless machine everyone thought she was ||
couldn't she just lie to win the argument and twist words to appeal to emotions?
why the fuck not at this point?
WaT end || That was how she lost ||
wat || lie about what, taravangian had the receipts ||
WaT end ||like that was the whole point of how Todium took Fen to his side ||
wat || taravangian literally had proof of everything she did and did not do, she wasn't fooling anyone ||
I'm reaching for anything WAT ||But I wonder if Jasnah could've just said "no taravangian is lying, that never happened. he's a god he can make up anything."||
WaT end || It's like
It wasn't a debate of logical arguments or philosophy. If it was that, then it would never work.
It was a debate of appealing to Fen, and Todium had Jasnah cornered by the things she said at the beginning of the debate ||
oh yeah no i totally know what it is and why she lost
WAT ||She better do something cool in future books to make up for this. she was so broken by the end of this book. I think book 6 will be her backstory.||
WaT end || I think it worked for me because she's like way too OP to a extent. We are seeing her on her prime in a way. Already 4th ideal. Is constantly peeking into shadesmar and can soulcast even air. And like just about anything ||
WAT end || It makes for a great point for her coming back strong ||
Damn WAT end ||Say goodbye to sex with your hot queen, Wit. You tried buddy, but it was never enough for her.
||
wat || technically wit dumped her
||
Okay yeah one thing that I really loved about Stormlight ||
Was how in the first book, it had a combination of both showing a non-fantastical truth about the various myths and being introduced to the fantastical elements of the world at the same time. It was just really amazing experience ||
oh shit i forgot that
WaT || Technically, she wrote the letter first ||
btw buffy
Read Psalm for the wild built next

I do have future fears for the series though ||I don't want things to go too far beyond Roshar. I hope the story stays there. I don't need offworld shenanigans.||
I ain't reading SHIT for a minute. I need some games.
tough luck bucko
buckle up buckaroo
was trying to avoid reading it
don't listen to spice buffy
I think || The narrative will stay at Roshar, but the ramification will be wide cosmere level || WAT
wat || urithiru will be a space ship or help me god ||
Uhhhh
Stormlight ||Cosmere more like Slopsmere||
is this a real fan theory or were you both just memeing?
my fan theory was different buffy
spice's is different
but the || space ship part || is there in both. WaT
oh i thought you were just starting it lol
Oh no I have read it
It's been like more than a year so gimme time to write about it lol
are the ethos in the film like
Goodbye books, hello Xenoblade Chronicles X which has words to read
film? book
book
like kind of
but I might skim some Frakenstein and the King in Yellow
Oh no not at all
This one worked for me due to many I have read feeling that way
or like there's some aspect of those to some extent there, but they are like explored than being the good thing/norm
Psalm for the Wild Built || It's got a really good solarpunk world where technology and development is done in like a properly coexisting with the nature rather than in the expense of nature.
The way I pitch it to others is like take J R R Tolkien's issues with technology and how averse to nature it's development was, and turn it into a scifi world where the issues are solved. ||
Okay that's the good things
Now the bad things were
|| It had really inconsistent pacing, like it felt it needed some extra stuff in between for it to feel natural.
||
and I found the prose clunky
which I don't think is the general consensus.
But I legit had to take out Legends and Latte and read it to assure myself that my reading comprehension hasn't decreased and the issue was in the books prose
For the king in Yellow, you can do like
one story in a week
sort
the other feeling i got was that it was basically a vehicle novel, where the masking of its philosophy isn't sufficient and everything seems like too contrived of a tool to make some sort of point or other. was this something you felt
ive read a lot of conscious sci-fi/fantasy stuff that ends up in that category
murderbot does too sometimes
I have only read first book of Murderbot and didn't feel anything as such in that
For Murderbot, I just loved the voice of Murderbot lol
It was just very fresh
and fun to read
I wouldn't say this was the case for me
I am thinking of a proper manga comparison we both have read but can't think of any rn
It leans more towards Yokohama than Aria, I would just leave it at that
anything will be less daunting than Stormlight at this point, besides other epic fantasies I guess.
my brain is mush after these past 4 months
have you heard of The Wandering Inn

nope
It's a webnovel which is at 1.2 m words rn
wait
that's one volume
14.5 m 5 months ago
btw that more so came from the || Rysn interlude where she says she has an idea. I just thought it would be really cool if she makes a spaceship somehow in the future lol || WaT end
looking through my messages and
|| Damn ch 93 was when I predicted that || WaTend
i think yokohama does it too
||but for nostalgia towards a certain sort of society and aesthetic ||
it's why im starting to resent it a bit
took it off my favorites lol
hmmm
Either way Juba, you can finish this book in like an hour and an half at max
I would say you should give it a try
Okay sharing a bunch of stuff Buffy. gonna ping you at once
WaT end
|| Was reading a friend's reaction to WaT which made me reread certain parts of it which led me to a observation
Like the parallels between the three oath breaks.
Sizgil's one was for the present.
Szeth's was for his past.
Dalinar's was for the future || WaT
Btw the person in this context is you
WaT end || Some really amazing stuff here. First this makes the whole thing with Mishram's capture much more nuanced. Tanavast was already losing, and stopping a direct clash of gods being the top of his list is very very valid. Could he have trusted Mishram, yes. And ye probably did. But what he didn't trust was Odium Shard, and since he himself was losing against his shard, he was correct in being afraid of that.
Impact of Nohadon being shown brought tears to my eyes. Such a wonderful person.
Another one is about the passage of time. Tanavast sat in Shinovar listening for 2500 years. And a convo between him and Rayse was equivalent to much more in real life, like how he held Rayse's attention which allowed Mishram couple of years to find the pool.
The other best part of this chapter, other than shedding light on Mishram ordeal, was this comment.
"A god who cares? You killed that god
I maybe interpreting too much but what it seems to be is that the 16 from Yolen (and Cephandrius) killed Adonalsium due to thinking of him as a worthless god or an indifferent one, cuz he didn't do anything which meant he didn't care.
But in not doing anything was he doing the most good. He created life, planets and then he just continued listening. He was there, but not as an active force cuz he had known that any of his meddling would just cause ruin. And by that he was being the most benevolent god the cosmere could get cuz he understood his own dangers. There was another point in this book where Tanavast mentions that Adonalsium just let them kill him, without putting up any fight. He might have known his death, shattering would have led to individual pieces which would be more terrible as they don't have those which keep them in balance, but even that was a more preferable outcome than one where he would have fought. His existence being completely vanquished was more right for him than even doing anything to try to stop them.
||
Yeah I think this is it.
@limber urchin
now time to go watch Lazarus
oh that's a super good observation
The hunt begins.

Peak fiction
It feels good to be a predator and alien fan
When is that alien earth coming out?
Do we know
Still sumer this year
My guess july
As for romulus early 2027 is my guess
November this year is for predator badlands
Since Disney nuked blade
And replaced it's slot with predator
I do not mess with these fake trailers
The hype is real though
Very excited to see them listen to their fans
You know how long people have begged
For a Japanese predator movie
I love my gf but once she said the stranger things season 5 trailer came out and then she sent me an ai and it was just like a realization
Or vikings
Like damn
Or a war period ????
This shit can actually work
Id cook her for this
I still need to check out predator 😞
I did
Lol
She said she only saw the thumbnail
Id say you're good as long as you don't watch "the predator"
And didnt get a chance to see it
Stranger things is lock
Not the biggest fan but I'll see it to the end
Same for me lol
Out of joy
Now i only need alien vs predator
Which both directors are open to
Just imagine that episode but it was the whole season
When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth was nowhere near as cool as its poster 😔
too many greasy naked people, not enough dinosaurs
was gonna watch Rock & Rule too but its already 2am that's another bad idea saved for another day
is this made by the same people that made Prey, that was a really good movie
It's rogue. It's powerful. It would rather be watching TV.
Based on the award-winning, best-selling series by Martha Wells, Murderbot follows a rogue security unit as it searches for the meaning of life.
Murderbot premieres May 16 on Apple TV+ https://apple.co/_Murderbot
In a high-tech future, a rogue security robot (Alexander Skarsgård) sec...
@sand cypress
Oh damn that's a nice attention to detail.
WaT || Dalinar's character arc of seeing that people are the same, whether they are lighteyes or kings or darkeyes and by this book even a freaking god is so good ||
||Like I think the main point of Honor flashback was for Dalinar to learn that bit too, among other stuff ||
also @sage remnant Stormlight in general ||I wanted to listen to youtubers give their thoughts on the series, but in so doing, what I ran into was both "why you should read stormlight" and "negative reviews of Wind and Truth." Is this common for each book release, or has WAT been getting more flak than the others? I noticed this on the subreddit too. Or is it more a combination of the series getting popular and/or the book only releasing a few months ago?||
isnt that the same with every single piece of media ever
the scenario has been very exhausting ever since Year of the Sanderson tbf
whats that
what exactly is the problem
popularity increased
Yes, I didn't know if WAT had actual real legit criticism or if it was just bandwagon hopping. I don't know enough about the series to really fully judge it yet.
same with severance becoming a normie show in s2
now everybody has some stupid shit to say
Some are proper criticisms from what I have seen
but almost anything is being hated
idc about criticism from randoms online
i will now hate it too
I like what I like
|| Saw a lot of comments seeing how Honor flashback should have been a seperate novella || WaT
I am like

sheep
those were my favorite chapters though
just finished White Lotus finale.. shed a tear for the cast, will miss them . They felt like family
yea
it's just tiring as a whole
nah but consuming too much online discourse might legit change poison your thoughts this is why I rarely look up things
Like
I dont use any social media except discord
WAT end ||The Honor chapters are stupidly good. One criticism I noticed was about the Spritual Realm, but I was always looking forward to seeing the past from Dalinar's eyes. That was super fun. ||
I rarely check reddit
but we're the worst
WaT || a huge amount of complains were about the use of the word "slut" and how it was too modern ||
And even in TWOK, there was stuff like this
People have been disliking things that were my fav in the book so Idc lol

Plus people apparently expected Hero of Ages style of ending
and this was apparently not like that
(I haven't read Mistborn completely so no idea how that was)
WAT ||I guess whore would've been more in-universe with the series, but slut and whore are two different definitions. I don't even know what the ancient word for slut is, though I guess it could be whore.||
WaT || It doesn't bother me for being too modern when the first book had it before 50% ||
I am not gonna be bothered about this in 5th book when it was normal in the first book

The books have had modern prose since book 1 yes.
Maybe it got worse, but I would need to reread to really notice it.
I reread it, and other than || use of the word "dated", which sanderson said was a mistake which slipped, I wasn't bothered by any || WaT
people who care about prose are the worst
WAT.
People were enraged by || Chullusy for months || btw Buffy
I found it very good cuz of how outrageous it was
i still think that's funny
I'm trying to think about real criticisms I have for the series.
how would i know if you've been pinged?
I don't want to risk getting spoiled about manga
ooooh
the context makes no sense to me
can you send it here if it can be sent
this means nothing to me lol
RRR is an Indian movie which had gotten very popular in US and moreso in Japan
wait. Has Harsh mentioned RRR before? I think he has.
and it seems they are doing a project collaborating with Ishitani
yes
@modern lichen
oh he won't respond right now, he's taking a break from discord
he's alive
I think the || Jasnah thing|| counts. WaT
i'm thinking overall series
Tho I didn't have issue with that, it feels a valid thing cuz it might just be me being stupid to not understand the issue
My main stormlight issue was that Brandon's POV switching game is always bad except in OB sanderlanche and WaT
and even in WaT, I had issues in like || Day 8 || WAT
my only criticism with the series the the way brando writes quippy characters
but its something I dislike since the first book I read from him and I dont think hes gonna change
Stormlight whole || Shallan and Lift work very well for me ||
and its not like I absolutely hate it
It worked since book 1
I like Stomrlight all spoilers||Lift and Shallan's humor, just not the awesome thing LIft says a lot.||
Yeah I really don't understand having issue with something that's there since book 1
if that's such a big issue, should have stopped reading the series at the first book itself
if he isn't gonna change it in 4 books, why would he at booko 5 lol
People were quippy in Mistborn b1???
not that much but it was already not great
anyway I dont have nearly as manu criticism for stormlight as I have for his other stuff
he basically improved in every possible way
My criticism for both Mistborn and Stormlight has been pacing and structuring
never had a problem with pacing in stormlight like ever
I won't talk about Reckoners when talking about him cuz like
The first book is like 1/10 for me :kekhands:
only in RoW tbf
for stormlight
oh no I dislike WoR even more
but for WoR, it's only cuz of the near the end of Sanderlanche and post sanderlanche stuff
I should probably reread all 5 at some point I think I might also put wor way lower
I've only reread the first 3 and for me its my least favorite of them
but whats the problem you have with row
for RoW || It felt like Sanderson forgot what the word surprise means.
Raboniel taking over the tower, spoiled and it happens beat by beat exactly how she said in the meeting.
Taravangian attacking Rayse, you only had to put the word "Rayse" and read the taravangian interlude and the todium chapter happens exactly that way ||
among other stuff
row || I have no idea what you mean with taravangian attacking rayse, what exactly did it spoil ||
If I had some minor criticisms for Stormlight as a whole, it would be the following:
I mean buffy, each book had had more story than earlier books
so like, it's just proportional to the amount of story told :kekhands:
RoW || beat by beat how that chapter goes ||
row || also about the raboniel part I dont think everything needs to be a surprise going exactly against everything you expect, the way row was structure it was clear it was going in a different direction than other books so that thought never cross my mind ||
but these are only minor complaints, nothing that's a deal breaker
I think I will like more in reread
row || I dont think I ever seen anyone else say they predicted how the taranvian plot would go that was one of the craziest twists in the series for me ||
maybe its just a personal thing but I really disagree
|| Kaladin, Taravangian, Moash, Shallan and Adolin's best parts || RoW
This was what I had wrote to a friend when I was reading (mf started Stormlight when I was in middle of OB reread and finished RoW before I finished OB)
Man, just think, WAT end ||Dalinar could've just killed Odium and solved everything and saved Brandon the headache of writing 5 more books.
||
and yeah I had found the POV switching to be worst than every other stormlight book
|| Too much attention to single ones
And again random switching || RoW
Oh I do like it too
Despite how much I complain about RoW and WoR
they are still like 4/5 lol
I will say though ROW ||Raboniel is my favorite antagonist in the series probably.||
i'm guessing he's the general consensus
i think he's begun to grate on me a little
and like specifically his character arc in OB was really amazing
and I still like it a lot in RoW and WaT
WaT all|| but it hasn't been as good as like his chapters in OB part 2 ||
how far are you in OP so far, Goro?
Oh shit same
ok then I can say this Stormlight (WAT end) and Egghead arc ||Taravangian did to Kharbranth what people assumed happened to Lulusia after Imu fired on it (thinking Vegapunk changed something so it would do so - save the citizens I mean).||
btw buffy
check out this trailer
looks interesting. is it like deadpool lite or something? it seems mostly comedy?
but i'd probably be better reading the books. i should read more.
uhh no. Not similar to deadpool in much of anything
It is mostly comedy yes
i still have yet to watch anything from apple
severance?
apple has peak scifi buffy
nope. have no idea what it is, save you all keep talking about it
cringe
star kek
have you ever watched stargate buffy
bsg >>>>>>
so say we all
bsg || the adama maneuver is still one of the grestest things I've ever laid my mortal eyes upon ||
frack
I’ve been getting the urge to read it again so I’ll probably go back
they dont make space operas like they used to 😔
I’ve let elbaf chapters built up enough
jupiter ascending
the expanse is the closest thing in modern tv but its finished now
Have an 8 hour drive today gonna listen to dance with dragons
A Drive with Dragons
better than before
Adwd ||Surprisingly Tyrions chapters are rather uninteresting to me mostly this book||
At least so far
ADWD ||His post-Westeros chapters are not as exciting to me personally, but they lead to some interesting moments.||
Adwd ||he’s just been chilling with illyrio and griff/the old hand, that was a cool revelation tho ||
Adwd ||I’m pretty curious to see where dany goes this book I’ve enjoyed her chapters so far ||
we went from talking about peaks to asoiaf smh
Apologies

all my homies hate asoiaf and grrm
I dun want it
mission impossible trailer looks great
idk man after 8 movies Im starting to think the mission is in fact possible
Wait until you hear about the tv series
daredevil BA e4 || really liked matt's meeting with frank, looks like franks still been killing on the low. interested to see where his arc goes from here. All of fisk's scenes this ep made me feel like he was gonna snap. so matt and fisk are both returning to their old ways. is that muse at the end? ||
oh btw @hazy patrol I watched s5b and s6 of lucifer
and have it paused at third last ep...
I couldn't continue...
I loved s5
s6 is shit
does lucifer have the cw arrowverse vibes
arrowverse is a guilty pleasure to me
I enjoyed arrow upto s6(dropped it s6 first half). flash was good till s2 then stopped being interesting
tho arrow's best seasons(s5,s2) are peak superhero tv seasons
just an inconsistent show
ill prob finish it sometime
ive heard flash rehashes a lot of the stuff/tropes after s2 and apparently gets really bad after a certain season(the final season had some very bad imdb episode scores)
ye the rehashing is there
barry's powers are so inconsistent. he's fast or slow depending on whatever the writer wants him to be
S1-s2 was pretty fun for me , s3 was slow but still enjoyable , s4 was my personal fav and like the only season in which I had no complaints , s5 was inconsistent but enjoyable and s6 was shit
I rewatched it this sem, and I was like binging it continuously for the first two seasons lol
finished s1 in like 2-3 days i think
I don't think I have it in me to watch a sitcom fully now
^
i only enjoy comedy shows if its a hybrid(sopranos, succession, etc)
sopranos gotta be one of the funniest series all time
I think it's perfect for me rn, since I only watch like 2 eps a day lol and well sitcom is the best when you just have that much time
i watch a few sitcom eps but they're too episodic for me to watch them fully
It's so hard man
Whenever I sit to watch something, I would feel like I should rather spend my time on upskilling due to the job market.
And when I start working on that, since I am mostly only doing coding adjacent stuff, I feel like I should rather watch or read something.
Then I end up doing nothing and spending the little free time I have on discord

Yeah I feel that, the balance between being productive and utilising free time is kinda hard to find but well ig it just comes down to what you love to do in free time without getting addicted honestly
I said fuck it and started reading shangrila frontier manga one day
I ended up staying upto 4 in the morning to read it
so like I either do nothing or go more than I should
atleast it was sunday
for me it was one day before exam
well not the exam night
the night before
so not the worst thing lol
Its the same director working on all 3 movies
mistborn hero of ages reread ||remembering why it took me so long to finish this book last time 😴💤💤||
You don’t have to watch past season 5
1, 2 and 5 are the only good seasons and you’re better off not watching past that
Daredevil BA ep8 ||I had to rewatch this episode, I can’t believe it took them so long to get showrunners who actually know what they’re doing. It’s an actual crime we had to wait 8 episodes for Bullseye do anything.||
I was recommended battlestar galactica a while back and I see theres a 1978 version and a 2005 version, do people usually refer to the 2005 one when recommending this series
nvm I figured it out, one of those shows scattered among 3 different names
Finally had the availability to go see looney tunes after work tomorrow after like 3 weeks of having to take care of my dog alone or being sick
And it's not showing anymore as of literally tomorrow 😔😔😔
I feel like a fraud
I'll go see Mickey 17 this weekend instead
tell me how it is
i didnt like it at all
I got a gift card for AMC, what good movie is coming out this summer?
Supahman
I've never seen any of this dudes movies so it'll be a first
damn
that's disappointing
that movie made me sour on his other movies
at least a bit
I'm busy watching gutter trash instead plz understand
Hammer horror and c list 80s animation
It's who I am
Oh shit yeah thanks
Gonna watch Harakiri @white smelt
It's not bad, but it was inevitably going to be a disappointment after Parasite
The original I hope
Of course
Ayyy
I'll be using it in a lesson
Great film
The soundtrack is also outstanding
Soundtrack as in score or general audio mastering
Because I hear the wind effects etc are unreal
As in score
But it kind of is one with the sound design
Why did Mikey rourke say that
minecraft movie:
@pine torrent
nvm ur right, idk what was wrong the first time
Also have an adblocker if you don't already
That's just a good tip in general

Hello, will be deleting Discord again after posting this message but thought I'd post an update on my 2025 books list, finished The Bright Sword (my favorite of the bunch, must read) and Orbital, just started Intermezzo. Ok goodbye
Books 2025 (9/17):
The Lowland - Jhumpa Lahiri- Cromwell trilogy - Hilary Mantel
- ~~The Goldfinch - Donna Tartt ~~ (partial reread)
- The Passenger/Stella Maris - Cormac McCarthy
- ~~ Agent Running in the Field - John le Carre ~~
- ~~ The Buried Giant - Kazuo Ishiguro ~~
- ~~ Intermezzo - Sally Rooney ~~
- The Overstory - Richard Powers
- ~~ The Starless Sea - Erin Morgenstern~~ (Did not finish)
- ~~ Orbital - Samantha Harvey ~~
- ~~ The Bright Sword - Lev Grossman ~~
- Rhythm of War - Brandon Sanderson
- Wind and Truth - Brandon Sanderson
- ~~ The Penguin Book of Norse Myths - Kevin Crossley-Holland ~~
I really should read those books one day
the third game and show is probably just not enough to encapsulate the source material
many people I know say that the games are the most enjoyable way to experience that story
even more than the books apparently
I mean it really depends
That just isnt true
The games tell a different story set after the books and ignore a lot of the books
And butcher some characters or outright ignore them like yennefer
the witcher games before w3 are mid af
and 3 is good not because it was a great adaptation or anything
but because it was a legit amazing game
I haven't read the books so yeah don't know how true it is lol
The prose and the way it tells the story is apparently very boring and bland
from what I have heard
The English translation isn't great but that's on the translator everyone who reads it in the original polish or a better translated book comes away liking the prose more than in English
did you read in polish or english
English it's just taking to anyone who's read it both ways they always say the same thing
The guy they hired to translate it is a a translator not a writer so it's not great

nice set of books to read, wow.
just waiting for his review of the last two

You gotta tag all of these
Trailer
yeah that should be tagged, according to what we have as the rules and all here
feels odd saying this to a helper :kekhands:
I checked it says nothing about trailer stuff
I'll tag it for no one that hasn't seen thr trailer
😭
Regardless the complaints about their design is dumb
damn league really pushing out more content eh
They arent gonna all look the same
did you finish HoA vady
hell no 😭
I'm barely 10 chapters in
I'm not really a fan of the book so it's hard to binge
Huh
Everyone in other Sanderson discussion place I am in has WoA or HoA as favorite Mistborn book lol
it has a really great ending which mostly makes up for it but everything before that is just kinda meh for me
It's so over for Mistborn...
you should just hurry up and finish era 1 so you can form your own opinions..
I really hope the latter two books are better cuz like except the Sanderlanche which just gets better the more I think about it,
The rest of the book just gets worse
words of ascension is about as enjoyable as final empire
but hero of ages just depends on you I think
I am like this person
Except for the fact that I have already reread TWOK from || Highstorm to ending || and OB part 2 and Part 5 and WaT sanderlanche in last two weeks
Instead of reading other cosmere
can't believe this 😔
are you planning on finishing warbreaker or mistborn first i forgot
Words of ascension...

oh bruh 😭
I always mix them up
they're both the 2nd books of their series it's not my fault
peak..
actually probably shouldn't hype it up too much so you don't end up getting disappointed
Isn't || Well of Ascension literally like a Perpendicularity || WoA
That's what it felt like when I was reading TFE
WoA if you want the answer ||technically yes||
I am hyped up by box set cover way beyond what anyone could hype me up
Nah won't open
alr
what are you waiting for to finish reading
Oh I have exams running
Also the reason I am more on discord. Gotta be somewhere while procastinating studying

Reading new would distract me
So I just spend time on discord or rereading Stormlight portions lol
cringe
No U
Was there a new Fantastic 4 announcement today
I wish
The Pitt was such a good show
I'm happy there's gonna be another season, but its gonna premiere in january
if you want a medical show to watch, i highly recommend The Pitt. Fantastic watch
I saw clips of the first episode, it's on my watch list
Interesting having a show based around where I live
you're in PA too? i'm on the eastern side, but its still nice to see PA in media, sometimes
Pittsburgh has a huge medical experience
It took the city over after the steel industry left
Currently one of the cleanest cities in the US*
is it actually?
the furthest west i've been is gettysburg, so maybe i'll have to take amtrak and see for myself
Well, supposedly
I see a bunch of difference sources say one thing and others say that it's the opposite
I think, personally, that it is actually really clean
Reading is prob the dirtiest
There's a lot of construction these days from the times I've been downtown but besides that it's been nice
Pittsburgh USED to be literally the worst place to live in the US regarding smog, pollution and general waste

An INSANE turnaround tbh
PA is just unfortunate in general when it comes to smog because of our geography
pollution just gets caught in all our valleys
oh, Reading just sucks. Its common to hate on them in my city lmao
Reading is like the New Jersey of PA
wtf centralia is so random
Oh and Harrisburg
Have you been to centralia?
But no one cares about Harrisburg
No lol I just saw a few videos
its not as interesting as it used to be
What's that one place that's literally like permanently on fire underground
a lot of the fires cooled down, so steam doesn't even rise off the streets when it rains
I grew up in Hershey, hopefully you've heard of that town
I've been to Cranberry, Pittsburgh (and all the townships south of it until you hit Bridgeville) and Slippery Rock
I've heard of Hershey, it's like uhhh
Made of chocolate I think?

something like that
Yeah! we have a bunch of large auto shows held here
mostly antique since Hershey is just old rich white people
I kinda miss the geography in NorCal
It was so nice having mountains in your backyard sometimes
cali seems nice to live in, just too much sun imo
i like the overcast of PA. Saves me money on sunscreen
Idk about down south but up north is beautiful
I wouldn't live there though, shits 1; expensive, 2; hot and 3; homeless populous is not great

Furthest down south I went was Sacramento but I stayed way up north an hour or so from the border to Oregon
expensive and hot are def things i dont enjoy
Oregon seems like a nice place to live, so i've heard
Mount Fuji?
Shasta
i was joking, but now i know the name of the mountain lmao
Lmfao
lol
You know just because it’s overcast doesn’t mean the sun isn’t blazing and frying your skin
You still need sunscreen
yeah, i know. Just jokes
i even have a sunblock umbrella for when its super sunny
sometimes i'll wear sunscreen when it snows, but it doesn't really snow anymore
do you really need to if you're not actively sitting at the beach in the sun type shit
I havent used sunscreen except for at the beach
it depends on how long you're in the sun. It takes 30 minutes for me to walk to (and 30 minutes back from) work, so thats enough sun imo to require sunscreen
thats so much work to walk somewhere
i'm a ginger, so i dont really have enough melanin to take the risk lol
I don't remember any time I wore sunscreen unless I was annoyed to
I'm white but maybe gingers are more white idk
Im really white tho
Yes. You should use sunscreen every day dude. If you’re outside at all you should use it
realistically, everyone should be wearing sunscreen. Its great for your skin! Idk if gingers are more white than regular white people, we're just a mutation for further north survival
wtf is this shit 😭
aint no way
Doesn’t matter if it’s not “sunny”, uv rays hit you if it’s day time
no Im aware but like, if Im just walking to get from one place or another?
To walk from my car to my work office?
does that mean people should wear sunscreen if they leave their windows open in their own home?
how long is your car ride to work? the sun is beaming on you while you drive
If you walk to your car you’re driving and unless your car is tinted to be pitch black you’re getting Sun exposure
Idiot
what about this
If the sun is hitting you, yes
wtffff
But you can just move
Dude if you’re getting sun in your face it’s uv rays man, idk why you think just being inside a house makes you magically immune
this feels like one of those situations where like, something can "technically" give you cancer (like a fucking water bottle or w/e) but realistically you're being overly anal to try and avoid it
this man was a truck driver for 28 years and didnt wear sunscreen. Which side do you think was exposed to the sun?
I never said that
see thats different though
thats 12 hours in the sun a day
not 20 minutes
yeah, its more of an extreme case
wearing sunscreen all the time is also pretty draining on the bank
I’m gonna tell you something. I don’t care about skin cancer. I just wanna be hot for longer. I don’t wanna be wrinkly
I live in florida bro I know UV rays can hit you through clouds, windows, etc.
I'm just saying its being overly extreme with that knowledge to wear sunscreen every time you're in a situation where you're exposed to sun at all
the cancer was a comparison to the effects
not saying you're talking about skin cancer
I think its fine if you do it yourself but it feels like you're saying everyone needs to be THAT careful about it. But this feels like a compulsive thing from you
like me being a ridiculously unreasonable germaphobe
I mean everyone should because of skin cancer. You especially in Florida
dermatologists recommend everyone to wear a little sunscreen. Even something like 15 SPF is better than nothing
Macks is Australian and the culture there is sunscreen at all times with bucket hats because the sun is beating down at all times
It’s just the US that has a weird idgaf culture
same applies to what I said before
The sun can give you skin cancer, just as drinking a waterbottle or w/e can give you cancer. But depending on the exposure, its realistically not affecting you.
in any meaningful
capacity
unless you're literally like
in the sun for an hour without stepping inside somewhere occasionally etc
like if you go shopping at an outdoor shopping mall, your occasional minute or two walking from one store to another
doesn't require sunscreen in reality
You think it’s like some recharging affect. It’s cumulative all your life
i just do what the doctors tell me
Listen you do you. Doctor advice is use sunscreen daily for when you’re outside
yes but the advice is usually under the context of like BEING OUTSIDE
Just because you don’t want to, doesn’t make you right
not being outside
on the other hand maybe the only reason I look ridiculously baby faced still is because I have blackout curtains and rarely hang out with friends. And its night time when I do
even less lately since some of my closest friends moved to georgia
right
there's a small movement to change the name of sunburn to radiation burn to make it sound more serious
some people get excited when they're sunburnt here because it means they'll be tanner after it goes away
it doesn't get taken seriously by a lot of people here lol
and people putting tanning oil on themselves?
tbh i dont live near a beach, so idk if that's still a thing. I just see it on tv shows
they do yeah lol
Invincible comic finished ||I finally finished the invincible comic and just holy fucking shit this was a blessing I picked up like there is no reason not to read this shit. The fight with Thragg and Mark on the fucking sun. The fight with fucking thragg and Battle beast that tore an entire planet apart. All of it just so peak 😭. The ending was so sweet to||
@undone junco I’m talking about the the ending of invincible here does this work as a spoiler tag or should I word it differently
yea thats fine
Thank you

Fistfull of Dollars || Never imagined I would like a movie so much that wasn't on my watchlist, 5/5 🤠🤠🤠||
yes sadly it was a mid episode
@tight hatch dune ||my problems aren't with this in the movies, really, because I think they just can't do it well in the medium. but it's basically just- the nature of the voice, spice, and just... the writing style generally having such an enormous amount of the story being worked through internal monologues and thought processes, like. Idt it can be done lol||
the movies were fun for the audio/visual stuff, though. definitely delivered there, almost always does anyway these days
ye the scale of things is epic, what would you rate the Dune books overall? the main trilogy
my favorite sci-fi books personally
i don't really rate stuff, but what was written by frank herbert is some of the best stuff I've read in the genre
although i'm not really a big sci-fi guy lol
loll
Blue eye samurai is good really like it visually
did you watch Dune Prophecy btw?
no, i haven't even heard of it 😵💫
wowow, um, imo, not good
lol frrr, i watched it with my sister who's reading the books and she hated it 😭
the overall production of it was good tho, like the sets and costumes

Ikr. I wish I could own it. Japan always has cool stuff like this to go along with certain theatrical runs
you can. These types of things often get resold on mercari japan etc
I’m learning all kinds of new things lately about stuff I can buy online
I’ll look into it. I can’t imagine it’s resold for too much
ye. Using a proxy site (fromjapan for example) for stuff on japanese websites is clutch.
It might not pop up right away, but Id say peep mercari japan occasionally.
It helps to have the like, kanji for the series or w/e saved somewhere so you can copy paste it into the search bar
thats how I got the japanese theater exclusive stuff for haikyuu
That’s so cool. I’ve been missing out all this time. There’s plenty stuff similar to what I posted that I’d have bought by now lol
Thanks for telling me
yeah its really clutch for like
jumpshop stuff too
np g
ye you basically just put the link to the item page in the proxy site, it auto pulls up the item, and then you provide a screenshot just in case
and then they order it for you, let you know what the price would be, and then if you confirm they order it for you
I wonder…
shipping price is usually kinda high but not horrible if you choose the cheap option.
Downside of the cheap option is that it often takes many months to arrive
but I dont mind waiting usually
idk how tariffs will affect this btw
