The orange haired vampire lady is probably the most insane of the vampire bunch, because she communicated to the silver-haired man with such humanity, only for her to lock him up as her slave. That’s such a massive betrayal with how much the silver haired man suffered since he was first captured. 🫨 ||

Finished Castlevania S4 ||It felt like this was just another good season and not so much a climatic finale season with huge stakes, but then it decided in the second half to be the climax of the series. It’s a little clumsy, especially when Trevor was kinda absent for a good portion of the season, but thematically speaking, it’s still great. the series choosing to spend its last season on the moral human conversations was good, with the human cast moving on from their stigma and learning to help humanity. Only thing I kinda wished was having a little peek on how Dracula developed while he was with his wife in hell(?). It’s kinda obvious that he changed a lot ever since he pushed Isaac selflessly to save him in S1, so I wanted to see what made him change. I didn’t get that, and I wished it happened because Dracula as a villain is lackluster and could have been expanded more, but it is what it is. ||

Solid series overall I can’t wait to watch Nocturne tomorrow. The Richter itch has been aching me.

Castlevania S4 ||it's not the best season of the show but honestly I thought it was the perfect end for Trevor's character

His ending in Season 2, the one Sypha recites to him, always felt hollow. Because yeah he decided to stop running away from his family heritage and legacy but also he hadn't fully adapted to it yet. Where Season 4 shines is all the little moments with him, looking at funny things in the background and recognizing their significance or spouting mythical Snapple facts. Because now that he dropped the facade he was living in Season 3 as a nomadic superhero he was able to start embracing the parts of him that make him a BELMONT, even though he had returned to his old life.

I think in that regard Death was a perfect villain for him. Belmonts are underworld janitors. They don't need to involve themselves in human revolution or anarchy, the whims of cults and the church. Those things are the problems of the average man, and fighting them would take an eternity. They're here to look further beyond and deal with the supernatural forces sticking their fingers into our world inciting the incidents within those factions. Like Dracula, like Death.

Where S1-S2 are about the rise and fall of Dracula and the origins of the clans that'd define the franchise it's S3-S4 that establish how they ended up shaping the world for centuries to come. Alucard is the same way, learning that he is literally unable to function in a normal life and instead resigning himself to being an immortal anime hero traveling the world to deal with vampires in secret.||

Castlevania S4 ||You perfectly summarized Trevor's arc I think. Looking back, I wish that Trevor had a few more new friends along his journey that could cheer him on like Sypha for S3 and beyond. The choice to have a lone companion post S2 and have Alucard separated made for a bold interesting direction, in terms of how it leads to their isolation parts of their arcs. It just didn't lead to a most satisfying payoff for me by the end of the series, and made for somewhat lacking character cast chemistry when it's just Trevor and Sypha for a good portion of the journey post S2.||

||More people that could give him new perspectives on what it means to be a Belmont and for more companionship, much like how Isaac was open to how he could help humanity by talking to people like that ship captain from S3(?)||

• Any of Laird Barron
• The Immaculate Void

Honorable Mention: Doesn't really fall in cosmic horror but kind of does similar stuff in his own way. Clive Barker (you have prolly already watched Hellraiser by him)

Most good cosmic horror are usually short stories so remembering them is so insanely hard lol

And uhh Gunmetal Gods, but I am sure you won't like it. || The cosmic horror aspects in it are to the extent it's present in say Berserk || and it's more of a heavy metal fantasy sort than a cosmic horror

Another series which had gotten popular due to booktube (which falls under the genre) would be Vendermeer's Southern Reach Trilogy. I wasn't a fan of the movie adaptation and hearing it's mostly similar, I never tried the books.

Finished Castlevania Nocturne series ||While I do think this is a good and engaging show, I was overall a little underwhelmed. I didn’t mind that this show was more and less nuanced on its view on vampires and focused more on how it made its hero cast more standout against an evil group. I wanted to see how the writers would flesh out the protagonist that I found so badass in the games. He was alright, and he got less screen time than I expected and his overall character arc was fine. It felt this was more of Annette’s story than Richter’s, which don’t get me wrong, she was a fully realized character, but I wished Richter got that much attention and backstory as she did. I was also a little underwhelmed with Alucard. He was still a fun badass to watch in battles and such, but it felt like he was shoehorned in out of nowhere to put the heroes in an advantageous position in the vampire war. It felt like he didn’t add much narratively other than being a dull advisor to Richter and others based on his past experience with Trevor and Sypha. ||

Finished Glitch Techs ||Fun kids show with well-animated action. It's got unique world-building and fantasy that appeals to kids with teens fighting to stop glitches in the real world. Sometimes, I find the use of certain gamer slang, game references and specific characterization of the characters kinda cringe because some feel like cringe representation/parody of the gamers/games, but it didn't get in the way of enjoyment. The massive cliffhanger left off actually wasn't too bad, since most of this show is episodic and not very plot driven. Just a massive tease of what could be a turning point of the show.||

Finished Better Days ||I looked up Better Days to see how this movie came to be after seeing it. Reading through the articles on how this movie went through so much Chinese government interference and how it struggled to release for a while astounded me, because the film I just saw was amazing. Beautiful cinematography and excellent acting meld together to tell a story of a teenage girl Chen Nian that just wants to study in school to have a future, only for her to struggle because of the many bullies surrounding her. There, she meets Liu, who goes along with Chen to protect her from bullies. ||

||The bond these two characters have for each other is so wonderful, gripping, and layered. That bond is apparent in the third act, where the two lie to the police about their association with each other to protect them from long-lasting criminal punishment for a big crime. Said crime was Chen pushing her bully down the concrete stairs, of which bully tried to annoyingly negotiate with Chen for the bully to continue their education. The anger and frustration Chen faced with this interaction led to that breaking point of pushing. The movie did a phenomenal job of developing Chen's character and her bond with Liu to make me really feel for her character during this moment and during the investigation scenes.||

||In the end, despite the eventual confessing from both Chen and Liu, Chen got to have a future and become an elementary school teacher, which was a wonderful payoff after all the heartbreaking struggles I witnessed. This was a powerful, hard-hitting film that deeply explored the layers of two main characters that go through bullying. I loved it. ||

I think this is the longest I've written for a non-anime movie, which I think speaks for this film's quality. 😃 👌

penguin s1 finale || Absolutely incredible hour of TV. Was captivated during the entire episode. Penguin made several brutal power plays in this ep and effectively dispatched all of his enemies.

The scene with sofia interrogating penguin and getting him to confess his sins to his mom was such an eyeopener. Recontexualizes all their past interactions. The entire time until now, I thought his mom was evil and used him for her own ends but the truth was she had a devil of a son,who manipulated her after killing her sons.

Lot of shocking twists in this ep. Didnt expect the triad guy to turn and pull through. I almost thought oz was going to kill sofia, but he ended up bringing her back to her worst hell:arkham.

Vic's death was inevitable but fuck, I wasnt ready for that. Tearjerker of a scene,poor kid. So it seems oz only kept him as a means to an end and was prepared to kill him once the falcones/maronis were wiped out.

Overall, a perfect episode. Satisyfying character arcs and resolutions. Penguin got everything except what he wants the most: his mother's love and attention.

Honestly, one of the greatest season finales ive seen. A wild ride from start to finish. This series was such a pleasant surprise, I hope DC keeps up this level of quality for their next series. I'd comfortably put penguin in my top 5 comic book series now.
