??? What’s so quirky about it
idk about spiderman 3, but Se7en for most parts ||is a normal muder mystery solving movie, the last 10 minutes is what changed the tides||
I mean I guess thats an opinion
How intense is Old Boy?
well yeah, it is a good movie (Se7en spoiler incoming) ||just didn't feel unique for most parts is all i am saying, but that ending really succeeded at making me open my mouth ||
Oldboy ||pretty intense ig||
I'm not really good at explaining things so I can't really respond to what you said, but yes its a good movie
Oldboy || i am seeing memes on insta of people shooting themselves after finishing the movie, indicating it fucked them up lol||
dw, i am on same boat here, a lot of peeps here find my opinions questionable
i dont have that issue all my opinons are good
yeah, your tier list is great indicator
i am inclined to agree
listen bro it just feels very like
ok and?
some superhero movie is above david fincher movie
2 superhero movies
a movie just being a superhero movie doesnt automatically make it bad lol
so far I have watched Se7en, Fight Club, and Social Network from david fincher lol
I have watched those same movies and se7en is my least favorite
The Social Network is incredible though
come on, no superhero movie is better than david fincher or QT movies
glazing is crazy
FC>Social Network> Se7en.
imo
I think people can forget that a movie dont need to be deep all the time sometimes it just needs to be fun
Social Network || It is incredible how you understand zuck character and scheme completly by the end of the movie||
Thats why twisters is in awesomesauce
that movie is so fucking dumb but good lord if it aint a good time
respectable opinion, I mean i hate movies with complex ideas sometimes, but i don't find superheroes exciting always.
man i wanna rewatch twisters
my next watch is most likely Knives Out.
a sequel is coming this year ig.
excited for Mickey 17 too
Mickey 17 my most anticipated movie
yes, it is directed by the same guy who made Parasite and OldBoy.
not oldboy, but parasite yes
ah nvm.
It’s not any of those, Se7en || it’s about a deeply corrupted city that’s been eaten alive inside out by this serial killer who has taken control of its vices and two detectives who have to reevaluate their ideals and morals amongst the filth of the city. It’s a movie about the capacity of a human being to do harm and damage to his fellow human being and what that means for those who are in the range of that fanaticism ||
Se7en || the murder mystery is a vehicle to introduce the viewer to these moral questions ||
I think you just didn’t engage with the film beyond the surface level of it being in the mystery genre
ok, Se7en || that explain the philosophy of the movie, but it doesn't make it unique i guess? i mean the philosophy is prolly something complex and dynamic, but the movie on face level doesn't add a unique value|| but that's just my opinion.
I think yeah too.
It is absolutely unique
There is no other film that does it like Se7en
At least as grimey and tactile as it
don't get me wrong, Se7en || the idea of the seven deadly sins being the lore of the movie is really great, but the action/events in the movie present seemed normal, till the last 10 minutes||
Se7en || It is extremely unique for its time especially, when in the 90s no one even conceived of a concept or execution like this, Fincher depicted a world that is utterly hopeless and grimy and all kinds of dirty to reflect the moral degradation of the city and the hope of its inhabitants ||
idk how to explain it more than that, but I definitely need to watch more movies to be a more profound critique.
se7en
It’s got some of the grimiest and gruesome scenes of murder in cinema, it’s not meant to be cool
im just fuckin with you man lol
I know
I mean, that i would agree with.
seven ||this is also shown by the hardened cynical old detective about to retire being partnered with the rookie who just moved there and has no idea what he's getting into||
I’m just stating it about the film
Se7en ||seeing the victims was painful for me xD||
Se7en || yeah, the rookie loses everything at the hands of the killer’s envy while the senior detective has to grapple with seeing hope in a world that cannot grasp the concept of hope ||
Se7en || the most horrific thing was that they didn't display the protagonist wife murder, but fuck, it somehow got into my mind and it got me horrified and angry, fincher is a genius for that||
Good
Se7en, ||like my mind imagined the picture immediately and it wasn't pleasant||
Se7en ||had to go gym after that to break some air 😂 ||
yo, a blender movie got nominated for Golden Globe Award.
Flow.
whats a blender movie
someone used a free computer software to create a movie.
a renderer basically.
if Se7en is so good why isn't there an Ei8ht
dont let anyone bully you for disliking this film
man I know if no one got me Juba got me
i never have you
quirky is the wrong word
ive talked about this before, how im prejudiced against hollywoodification of ugly people
that film is the worst example
do you care to elaborate because I do not know what you mean
everyone is too pretty and everything goes too smoothly
the everyone too pretty thing is real lol
perks of being a wallflower ||I can't really say if its good or not because coming of age movies are a guilty pleasure of mine so I'm kinda biased towards those types of films||
but I do agree with you juba about the too pretty thing
but hollywood gonna hollywood
i like coming of age films stories a lot
but there's a fine line of authenticity they have to balance on
that one is wayyy off of it
ok I need to stop getting movies this month or I'm gonna go over my data cap
you have data cap?
people have data cap in 2025?
in usa too?
yeah, large parts of the US actually have poor internet infrastructure
relative to other first world countries
mhm
I have very fast internet, but my ISP sucks
and has a monthly cap
granted its 1.2tb but still
I mean, i live in first world country, but it is isolated, yet i don't think anyone live by limited data here
everyone just sign up with fibre or something.
yeah, it'd be a huge undertaking nationally here cause the country is so big
so it's just dependent on location, some areas are great, some are poor
which state is this? if you don't mind asking.
california
not much you can do when ISPs have monopolies
murica capitalism at its best.
other than the first 3 and Mickey 17, which one should I watch after "Knives Out"?
based on your opinion of seven, I'm gonna say edge of tomorrow
I feel the sarcasm in this message
movies i liked
yeah I'm still saying edge of tomorrow
gotta watch southpaw after 🤔
donnie darko too
but i kinda got spoiled for it,
well whatever
ohhh, how did i forget to add "The Last Mohicans"
I just realized Sam Raimi is in a movie that most people have never even heard of
I gotta rewatch it soon
Akira and then read the manga….

The only manga I read is one piece.
It makes the movie look like shit
Which is crazy
Cause the movie is pretty good
I mean, overrated if you haven’t read the manga, but still good
Man theres quite a few movies I’m pumped for this year
Mickey 17
I wasn’t really interested in watching a superman movie but that trailer got me
Knives out
Fantastic 4
F1 looks really solid
Not a movie but that alien show comes out this year
Gonna be good
Goodfellas def
Prob my top 5 movie of all time. Its so rewatchable
You have godfather as a 5 so you'll def like it
Im not in the loop with movies anymore so its mostly just superman and F4. Slightly interested in thunderbolts.
Damn, severance s2 spoilers are already out
Gonna be fun having to dodge those
Rest
The film is great for reasons completely separate from it’s approach towards adapting the source material
Man I wish I was a writer at Marvel for a day or something for Spider-Man
I’d give him the happiest day in his life
He’d be the main isekai protagonist of NYC
Everyone even Jameson would love and cheer for him
He’d have a loving happy family with his wife and children
The Avengers would love and care for him
The Sinister Six would stop crime and acknowledge his greatness
He would be truly loved for the first time in his life
|| And then he’d wake up from his dream and find himself in an graveyard in front of his wife and children’s grave and he’d start crying and clutching his heart ||
@fickle ember ^
You can't just tell a Miles story with Peter in his place smh
Almost though this was a marvel editor but Paul wasn’t mentioned

Nah if it was Miles in my mind , I wouldve had both Zoro and Frieza as co-writers with Uncle Ruckus as inspiration
A friend of mine was glazing Spider-Man a bit too much so I had to do it to him lmao
This is what I wrote in like under a minute but it was a bit too good so had to share here
New ultimate || that’s basically the new universe, except the bad guys are still being set up, but he’s very happy and life is good ||
all spidey fans should check out the new ultimate spider-man book
hickman is just going ham
If only his name was hickham
My only complaint so far is superficial, but I wish || black cat still had white hair ||
It just feels wrong not seeing it

ah well, i feel that too lol
Like imagining Kratos with hair or something
There’s still time for it to happen
USM || she was just introduced, maybe she’ll get a wig ||
Unless Hickman is a hack…
i am enjoying the ultimate and absolute books so much more than anything dc and marvel have put out in the last decade
On an unrelated note , assuming on the basis of your pfp and description, are you Indian ?
yes
Same
nice
Nice shloka
Nice
yeah i have memorised the entirety of the bhagavad gita
Respect +++++
🙏
🙏🏼
Whiplash!
Sonic 3 was good
Sonic 3 || I’m surprised these movies keep bringing Jim Carrey out of retirement ||
He loves doing them so much
watching se7en in imax later tonight
last watched it in 2020, hopefully a diff experience now in theatre
top 10 movie for me
The Way of Kings, page ~1150, about 150 pages before the end ||Please, do not spoil me beyond this moment. I'm at the part where Dalinar and Sadeas are successfully attacking the tower, but with Dalinar's' Thrill seeming to go away as he sees the dead face of a Parshendi soldier who seems to be no more than a kid. My current thought process is this: Dalinar dies and Kaladin gets Oathbringer. I think this for three reasons: 1. The book earlier mentioned that Dalinar would die soon, 2. One of the future books is called Oathbringer, 3. Kaladin is displaying powers like Szeth who is also a Shardbearer. The way I think it will happen: even though Sadeas cut them off, the Parshendi archers will jump the chasm towards Kaladin and start trying to kill him and Dalinar will come to save them but die in the process, dropping his blade. I haven't finished the chapter yet, but this is what I think will happen. But I think I've been wrong will all my predictions so far. ||
harsh will protect me
Fuck yeah dude
spoiler ||stuff happens||
|| when the kings find their way
|| also spoiler
not a spoiler || everyone dies get spoiled lol ||
Lmaooo
I am following your journey with great interest
Imagine if I just dropped it right now and said "nevermind, mid."
Be pretty based…
If you made it has far as you have and then dropped I would be shocked
Nah. I'm loving it. I think it started as a 7-7.5/10, and then I think I'll settle on it as an 8/10 book. The Way of Kings ||But I also knew going into it that it had a lot of worldbuilding and setup involved as I've listened to Brandon talk about the book before in his BYU classes, so I was ready for it. But thankfully the book eventually gets juicier and juicier in terms of characterization and plot.||
||So far, I still think Shallan's plot is my favorite, though Kaladin's has gotten really good in these final chapters.||
oh i guess i can't read that yet, since I still have 150 pages to go?
oh i thought you were done lol
better wait to read til after
sorry, i could've worded that better. don't worry i'm not clicking anything til i'm done.
not worth the risk
a few posts above you can read precisely where I am and my thoughts on where I think things will go by the final chapter.
yeah yeah your last message just confused me
"Damn, this Elbaf sucks." drops one piece
is this your first brandon sanderson book? I'm surprised you have listened to some of his lectures
unironically I think some people did drop one piece after wano
I ready the early parts of Mistborn book 1 and Elantris, and enjoyed both but just got busy with life and/or lazy. I've listened to his entire BYU lecture series as I was learning to write, and he's definitely spoiled Mistborn for me and probably some of Stormlight, but I've forgotten almost all the details he spoiled me on.
mistborn is mid anyway so its alright
Brandon is the worst at spoiling his own books
pissborn
Mistborn ||jumps metallically||
wait wtf mistborn is actually in fortnite?
yes it is
every day I hate fortnite more and more
still no luffy
oh btw The Way of Kings ||Jasnah is best waifu||
lmao
We recorded with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra for one of Kaladin's soundtrack battle songs as well as with a choir in Los Angeles. I composed this song in 10 hours straight, the day before I had to fly to Prague the next day. Quite the stressful time, but it worked out!
www.RichardMusic.com
There is an OST for Book 1 of stormlight btw
Its a banger
oh shit more random stuff. The Way of Kings ||I can't help but put actors and actresses in place of characters in a story, even if it's different than what the story directly describes. It helps me separate them mentally for better clarity. For example, Kaladin is Michael Fassbender, Dalinar is Harry Sinclair, and Navani is Catherine Zeta Jones. I choose them based on how they looked in other movies, which I can't spoil in this message. As for Jasnah, she's one that I just kind of made up in my head, I never replaced her with an actress.||
that certainly is a unique way to read it. I cant say I visualize actors at all, but whatever works for you
Btw most characters do have official artwork depictions, worth looking up after you've finished imo. Although of course feel free to imagine the characters how you like
the day a show/movies based on the stormlight Archive finally come out is the day I can die happily
You can did happily
can i
The movie will be directed by Michael Bay
disgusting. I will ignore those artworks and substitute my own sexy headcanon
epic
Would it bother you if I told you (stormlight 1) ||Kaladin was never described as white? 😭||
Sorry to ruin the headcanon
can I read that, still 150pgs to go.
yes
Yea
yeah
Yea
huge spoilers actually don't open

The Way of Kings ||Shit....well, I just whitewashed him with Michael Fassbender in my head, so gg.||
Lmao
I blackwashed another character. is blackwashing a word?
The way of kings ||The way i understood it is that alethi ppl look more asian||
But there is no actual real life equivalent so feel free to imagine
it is now
The Way of Kings ||Despite what the book said, I made Rock a black man in my head. And Sigzil is Indian.||
actually Brandon confirmed in an interview that kaladin looks just like me
I only know kaladin, not sure about others tbh
way of kings ||first time seeing art of rock's actual appearance messed me up||
This is kind of like who i imagine kaladin to look like in my head, tho he looks different canonically still
The Way of Kings ||That's not too far from how I see Sigzil.||
did you imagine him as the average Italian gym goer
thats the guy from lost right?
Italian???
Yea
he is arabic if i remember correctly
I think so
Broooo
This sick ass fanart I just found
Made it my banner
Stormlight 2: Words of Radiance END
Ariirf art is the greatest
Oh shit, this is the person that made the Mistborn Era 1 END ||Rashek fanart I love so much LOL||
I had that as my pfp for a bit a year or two ago
Stormlight 2 end ||Tien and the rock||
Aw, that's cute
I didn't look at all of them cause of that
I'm not done yet
I just saw that first one
That goes hard
4 away from 100 😔
you still have time, just watch click and pause when they go back in time
can watch films in the interim
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 50 ||One of the funniest paragraphs LMAO; Jasnah about to give Dalinar a heart attack||
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 50 ||"You storming personification of a cancerous anal discharge"||
||Damn dude, you wonder if he learned that one from one of the other planets like Vasher and asshole lol||
@mild seal no CR due to the fires in LA
Oh the fires are in SoCal, around the LA area, forgot
Ya
Have you seen the discourse around it lol
It’s just 1%ers who wanted the defunding of social services like the fire department going “where are the firefighters??? I’m going to lose my house!!”
damn, have to cancel my plans to see se7en in imax. shitty weather
my sky is hell
stay safe man, hopefully they don't reach you
yea we got family waiting for us and will probably evacuate
are the police included in that?

you think these rich fucks wouldn't want their security force?

Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 56 ||OK VENLI, I SEE YOU||
@mild seal CR producer Kyle’s house is entirely gone, dude, Matt and Marisha have evacuated
Yeah I saw a pic of the fires, it's real bad
Damn the fires serious
Especially with how windy California has been
Hope everyone stays safe if you live there, if we have any regulars from here…
It’s been an absolute nightmare apparently, it actually looks like hell
the hollywood hills and malibu are basically gone
and there's multiple fires going on at the same time
is this a pro feature?
No
The Way of Kings, chapter 66 ||Bros..............FUCK Sadeas. I want that bastard dead.||
How do you see it
you get an email
Ah
lol You’ve seen it?
yeah
Damn I gotta step up my game
Didn’t
Haven’t had a lot of time for movies this year
The email comes at different times
I got mine earlier today, some people got theirs hours earlier
i do not recall a single film with robert englund this year but i guess if letterboxd says so..
must've done an elm street marathon at some point
@glacial jetty did u read stormlight 5
uhhh which one is 5
oh wind and truth
not yet, im still working through a memoir i've been on for half the year
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 61 ||Navani's lift and Tomor's glove experiments being relevant to Kalading moving around Urithiru is so good man, I didn't even think about it||
will anyone be my friend if so pls dm
Quotes on the cover are crazy bro
Arkham City shit
Really? It hasn’t ever struck me as odd. Poor design tho, ye
I’d rather them be on the back lol
The Way of Kings question ||I'm nearing the final pages. How did Shallan murder her father as she confessed? Did she "accidentally" kill him with her natural Soulcaster powers? Or am I forgetting some detail earlier in the book? Or is this something that is revealed in the next book? I'm a little lost here.||
The Way of Kings || The moment you are talking about is the first proper reveal/mention of it. ||
Ok thanks
Lmfao
I feel like this is a list of books you pretend to enjoy to look intelligent rather than a list of books you actually enjoy
not you as in anyone here but like yknow.. the general you
Idk how to tackle your statement with any retort. I mostly agree that this image gives off that vibe of pretentious pseudo-intellectualism, but I wouldn’t dare to say that people are pretending to enjoy these novels/novella.
I can only suggest one who holds this opinion tries out the works of Kafka, Dostoevsky, Camus, Plato, and Aristotle
Frank Herbert’s Dune. Tolkien’s LoTR
I mean I've enjoyed every book on that list I've read but I think Qbz is saying that having all those specific books comprise the top of anyone's/places' canon gives off a certain vibe
I think that just as a generality there’s definitely people out there who don’t actually like reading these books who will say that they do enjoy them in order to present themselves as potentially smarter or “more literate.”
coming from you this makes sense
half /s
The implication is just funny to me. I only posted it saying “lmfao” because the top two titles on there are the ones least deserving of even being on the list in the first place
Why isn’t the hungry caterpillar on this list
Society hasn’t reached that level of elitism yet, Omni
Ask again if it isn’t on there by 2030
I am beginning my full Hellboy deep dive today man. I am.excited to really dig in
I've read short stories and a few other books of his but never read the whole thing and BPRD and Witchfinder/Abe Sapien/Lobster Johnson. Throwing in Baltimore, though it isn't Hellboy
yeah exactly i also have enjoyed some of these books but just as a whole thats how it comes off to me
My favorite Novels/Novella
- 100YOS
- The Metamorphosis
- Neuromancer
- The Stranger
- Dune Series
Honorable mention to Nietzsche’s The Gay Science
ive heard really good things about neuromancer but not especially into cyberpunk so never checked it out. I dont dislike cyberpunk stuff necessarily but its not really a huge plus either. maybe this year
It’s sick. But I suppose if you aren’t a fan of cyberpunk you might not be as big on it as I am
I freakin’ love cyberpunk and all it’s related genres
@sage remnant @sand cypress @modern lichen @brave orbit @shadow sequoia @obsidian basalt The Way of Kings, I have officially finished ||These final chapters of section five...what a fucking rollercoaster! I was so, so happy that Jasnah took Shallan under her wing to understand the truth behind the Parshendi-Voidbringer connection; I'm mega excited they will soon head to the Shattered Plains. And the Taravingian twist was just a chef's kiss moment. I can't wait to learn more about the Ghostbloods, how/why God died, and who Odium is, and if everything is affecting the universe at large as Dalinar's last vision seemed to suggest. And all hail Bridge team four! I'm so, so happy Kaladin saved Dalinar and I hope Sadeas receives his just desserts. And with Szeth heading to the plains, I'm curious if he and Kaladin will clash. And man I love Wit so much. Great, great, GREAT story.||
I don't read many books
The most influential book on my life is probably The Neverending Story?
That one really steered my interests back in college
Kinda been meaning to paint a tribute to it for years

WoK end || congrats on finishing your first sanderlanche
||

Stormlight 1: The Way of Kings END ||The buildup leading to Kaladin saving Dalinar and then Dalinar giving up Oathbringer was one of the most narratively satisfying things I have ever read; Kaladin finally seeing a trustworthy lighteyes, Dalinar being more honorable than any cremling in the story, Shallan outplaying Jasnah with the Soulcaster, it's so good||
One of these days, I need to take a month off of work and listen to the graphic audios of each book
I have another book to read first, Empire of the Damned, before continuing with book 2 of Stormlight
Way of kings end || I still get chills thinking back on Kaladin's "we have to go back" scene and Dalinar trading his shardblade for the bridgemen. Its so so good ||
Stormlight 1: The Way of Kings END ||I love how everyone actually agrees with Kal, like the mere idea of Sadeas getting a W over Dalinar (who they know is a better person) was enough to make their stomachs turn||
Stormlight 1: The Way of Kings END ||I remember thinking that Dalinar would die when I first read it, like Kal wouldn't make it in time to save him but enough to save Adolin lololol||
Make sure to read the novellas after book 2 and book 3 when you get there
Yeah, Buffy has to introduce himself to the rest of the spicy cosmere
The Way of Kings ||Man, Brandon is really good at pulling off twists. I'm pretty sure I fell for every single one.||
Of course he wrote more than just the main books.
do these people not read new books

Way of kings end || He is. And if you ever reread or look back in the future, you will notice all sorts of foreshadowing that was there in plain sight
||
they dont read anything on the list either
if youre posting about these books constantly you dont have time to read them
Yeah, it’s kind of silly. Hyper-fixation on presumed complexity and literary fiction with the occasional fantasy or sci-fi pioneer title
The Way of Kings ||My gut instinct after finishing was to reread the prologue to see what foreshadowing or details it held.||
They’ve even got some epics in there lmao
I really love that the first one is just the Bible
Man these people would NOT be fun at parties
I've read the Bible, like actually read it. Raised on it. It ain't that great outside a few famous parts.
old or new testament
Depends lol
I've read the new testament and its pretty boring
Theres some cool stories in the bivle
Bible
I’ve read parts of the book of mormon
Genesis and Revelation are cool
Pretty litty
Both
paradise lost is fire
Yeah, you get it
I mean, it is the best selling and most discussed book in history, for better or worse
CLEARLY you haven’t read harry potter
one day i'll check out harry potter lol
never got into it due to getting some spoilers and esp the fanbase turned me off
It’s aight
yeah HP series is just ok
Can’t believe they don’t have any Proust on there man
YA gets so much shit for like no reason from like “real readers” lmfao
I mean theres def some fair things about it but like what are you expecting bro
I’ve grown out of my YA phase
im not rly a book reader but i used to read YA in middle school and that shit was corny
But yeah
amateur writing
It’s not necessarily YA in the sense of shit like Maze Runner or Divergent
It’s marginally better written and has better characters and ethos
One Piece is my favorite YA.
Well, those general tropes were invented and done probably the best by Harry Potter
Does Earthsea count as YA
is mistborn YA?
It’s for children and young adults yes but having reread it last year, it’s very adult oriented with its themes and writing
inb4 my question triggers mistborn fans in here
I like Harry Potter but it's been a while since I've read it
I probably won't feel the same way about it if I reread it
It’s just ok to me now
Especially Rowling shat all over it with her grubby authorial hands
Mistborn counts as a YA novel I think
I’ll never reread HP. But I’ll rewatch some of the movies from time to time
Yeah, the author is unhinged
The Book of Enoch is fanfiction but it's the coolest part
Scythe was a fun YA i read like a couple years ago
Def some glaring issues tho
But fun
Books 2025 (17 books):
The Lowland - Jhumpa Lahiri- Cromwell trilogy - Hilary Mantel

- The Fraud - Zadie Smith
- The Luminaries - Eleanor Catton
- The Starless Sea - Erin Morgenstern

- Rhythm of War - Brandon Sanderson
- Wind and Truth - Brandon Sanderson
Two books down
Time to start the Cromwell trilogy
what are your guys approach to reading books/manga. do you just nonstop read or write your thoughts after every chapter
i tend to do the latter so it takes me longer to read
Go go go
I just read
the first one im impatient
i have to start getting used to just reading
I usually read every night before bed
im sure id save lot of time
I like absorbing an entire story before gathering my thoughts on it
taking notes makes it kinda feel like work/school and reduces the odds ill end up reading
i kinda like taking notes so i can look back at them in the future and see my first time experience
I got a kindle recently and you can easily highlight stuff in place so I might start doing that more
and set bookmarks and stuff
i have long notes docs saved for every tv shows ive wached lol
Next book I'm reading: Empire of the Damned, sequel to Empire of the Vampire. Another 800 page novel. Phew, these big books.
and after that you'll listen to Empire of the Sun
Sun? OP reference.
@sand cypress The Way of Kings ||What is the most accurate art of shardplate and shardblade you know?||
no, they're a music duo
Way of kings || This link contains official art only featuring the way of kings content. Scroll down to the leatherbound edition art and you can see some depictions of shardplate and the honorblades. Do not go to any other page on this website there are massive spoilers https://coppermind.net/wiki/The_Way_of_Kings/Interior_art also there are other resources too but they could probably be considered spoilers. Book 2 also features interior featuring the blades and plate so you'll just have to keep reading
||
Thank youuuuuu

The Way of Kings ||With the Shattered Plains one, are those the warcamps or the main castle beyond the warcamps where Elokhar and the rest live?||
Way of kings || I think it is the warcamps ||
Another peak one
I will say, I have the same criticism of Brandon as others, especially reminding myself how well Jay Kristoff writes: Brandon needs to work on that prose, man. It's serviceable, but nothing that really grips you the way great prose can. But I guess it's fine since he makes up for it in most every other department.
TWOK || All very good and very awesome but this is probably the best part of the book for me.
What is a man's life worth
Slavetraders say its worth two emerald broams
What do you say
A man's life is priceless, Kaladin said quoting her father.
Coincidenrally that's the exact value of a shardblade. Today you and your men sacrificed to buy me twenty two hundred priceless lives. All I had to repay you was single priceless sword.
I'd call that a bargain.
||
For Brandon (and for Kristoff) its deliberate albeit for different reasons. Brandon wants it that anyone with low proficiency in the language could enjoy the books
That's at least a positive to it.
For Kristoff, I think he just targets to adults who are closer to YA audience (want more "adult" version of the YA-ish story)
All very good ones
Did you watch the newest Netflix series adaptation of hundred years of solitude rei? It's good
Hey that's a pretty solid description
When will I get a stormlight art from you btw 👀
You are obliged to draw one since you finished twok
I hope you like crayons on cave walls.
Silo s2 Ep9 ||Finally, a banger ep||
Oh word I thought I was crazy for not being able to find it
In the meanwhile, watch Silo
man I love the thanksgiving episodes of Bob's Burgers lol
bobs burgers s10e10 ||"nice, sweaty and weird, if my penis could talk" I swear Gene has some of the best lines||
Knives Out : Done ✅
Knives Out || Really good start, really good plot execution until the end, I got to say, the ending is weak, Ransom seemed suspicious from the first minute, making him the murderer, the viewer expected some kind of plot-twist toward the end, considering that there is a culprit behind all of this, so you suspect Ransom in the first 10 minutes, you keep suspecting him during the police chase with Marta, then at the end, it was obvious it was him, overall, great story, great plot, great characters, very predictable ending||
~~ 3.5/5?~~
maybe i would give it 4, ||considering it is only the predictable part at the end being the issue||
4/5
3.5 is kinda harsh on the movie || it was really good with one weak part||
What’s your favorite from my favorites?
Prolly Neuromancer
Good choice
i was asked this question in another server: what are 5-10 books that define the way you look at life and stories or what gives a look at the way you understand the world

I'm 29 next month man 😔
it may be job time..
i've finished 2 books and half of chihayafuru already
damn old guy
the goldfinch was very meh towards the end
🏃
having started "wolf hall", such great prose
if ever i get a chance.... the job market has been.... shit
I be talkin to me colleagues over in india forreal.
A lot of it is racist white people in the US saying "I'd like to speak to a US rep" to them tho
for now, i do chill and its nice
😔
oh man
yeah, its rough especially now but that's the extent to which i'll go
dont wanna get too topical...
bro i havent seen you talk much about reading or watching or playing anything these days
been in a slump?
nice nice
its been.. a while since i played a game
wairt
i finished the golden idol sequel recently

its so bland looking wtf
its really good once you get into it
i initally had the same reaction but the puzzles and the story is just amazing
powerpoint presentation ass cover

that cover sucks what the fuck
why
But yeah, back to topic in this chat
Wolf Hall good so far
Was asking only about the written word, so novels, plays, comics
But I appreciate this
In that case
Nice, good list
Whipped it up on the spot but it would probably look a little different if I was able to sit and think for a moment about the question more
Take your time for a more definite list
I’ll probably put dune on my to read list this year and try it
Isn’t there 6 books and it’s unfinished?
Well I had originally misinterpreted the question as asking what the ten most formative works for our/my current preferences are, but I see now that it’s actually asking for ten works that have changed or have helped shape how I perceive and interact with the world/life around me
What percentage of people even get past dune 1 because dune books after 1 ||doesnt it get hella freaky and weird||
The first one isn’t even my personal favorite
But I assume most people’s favorite is the first and I’m not sure how many bother to continue past that
Even though it’s required reading really
Read until book 4 at least
is it god emperor of dune?
or messiah
Messiah
I should make a list of all the books i plan to read this year
just take some books from my list
But also half the fun is kinda just being in a bookstore and picking something random
Want to read some more classic books but also i dont want to become pretentious so

Being pretentious is ok
read The Stranger Wombat
Crime and punishment
The Iliad
But these are basically my favorite books
What the hell man :(
Getting too cocky, had to cut you down to size lil blud
Blood Meridian
I Claudius too
This is a form of anti intellectualism as well, just read good stuff and engage with good literature and art earnestly
When I picked up The Gambler I didn’t even know it was the guy who made Crime and Punishment until a couple days later
Bro?
Book cinematic universe
Lol
I do lol
I’m mostly just being dramatic
Why worry about being pretentious then, you’ll be called dumb by me regardless
I rarely see I Claudius be mentioned
I’m the smartest 19 year old
Chill
Chills dude. Chills.
Bro onto nothing
- In Search of Lost Time
- 100YOS
- Notes from Underground
- Hunter x Hunter
- Romance of the Three Kingdoms
- Macbeth
- Kiichi Series
- Beyond Good and Evil
- The Art of War
- No Longer Human
My dad read le Mis, I’ll probably put that on there too
Macbeth was so fire
That shit was gas
The book ignited my love for history
Shakespeare was cooking when he wrote that
Macbeth is my favorite Shakespeare play
Which is crazy cause romeo and juliet is mid
Same
But Macbeth is lit
Romeo and Juliet is fine
Do you think Shakespeare would appreciate me calling his work lit
Probably
would he appreciate me showing him that "damn, his writing is this fire" YouTube thumbnail
It’s a toss between Macbeth and Hamlet, in regard to favorite Shakespeare
I fw A Midsummer Night’s Dream heavy too, though
Comedy of Errors is the closest one to me
and then King Lear
prolly my dad's influence in that one. He used to watch any possible adaptation or worked out play of King Lear he could find
I'm gonna watch the J-drama First Love Hatsukoi.
https://vxtwitter.com/flashfamfiles/status/1877452999577968770?s=46 this looks so cool
which Flash is it?
It’s in the tweet itself
I fuck with it
The absolute run has some of my favorite designs. Still iffy on Batman but it’s growing on me
Absolute Wonder Woman is my favorite but the Absolute Universe is overall firing on all cylinders
I saw that
Hehe
There is always a higher brow
Yeah,James Joyce,Thomas Pycnhon and David Foster Wallace are missing
I don’t like talking to DFW people
Reio naming your list “essentials for understanding me” and it just being like, /lit/ core, is giving me mixed signals
The title is a joke playing on the Hunterchad meme
So I've only watched an interview he did but haven't read a book of his, what's the stereotype?
And ofc it’s /lit/ core. I went to college for literature lol
At least I’m not putting the likes of the Holy Bible and the plethora of literary fiction that they had on their top 100
I wanna reread some of these, though. I wonder if I’ll be as big of a fan of some of these works as I was when I was 19
Oh God juba's been writing for a while, what have I done
You’ve never read Infinite Jest?
Oh you just said that nvm
I don’t know why Juba would dislike DFW more than Thomas Pynchon
Ulysses would have made my list but it’s like every lit student I know’s favorite book
Disaffected, but meticulously displayed in such a way as to not make you seem gauche. Cynical, but through an inflated sense of self that causes you to believe it’s instead a mix of resignation and intellectualism. Self-aware, so much so that it divorces from actual self-awareness and becomes performative. They all treat DFW as ultimate figure yet their desire to seem measured prevents them from conveying it, so it comes through an elitist filter
And I’m already too normie
I can see that juba
After these people read DFW, they only read stuff like Arno Schmidt or become like, infatuated with the idea of a “cultured but normal person” and wear it like an aesthetic
I think everyone who reads him in college goes through this
I've only watched interviews or read quotes of his
I’m not a big DFW fan
I don’t hate his works but I don’t really get the appeal ultimately
Or rather, I do get the appeal
I just don’t get how someone would live in its bubble their whole life
As someone who has struggled with depression and suicide, some of the things he said resonated with me
He could have been a motivational speaker
I tried. @coarse flower
This is the most I’ve thought about literature in a good while. The Harsh effect
I have read Dune a year and half ago, is dune 2 worth the watch?
Yes
what is letterboxd but for books?
It might have been my favorite film to release last year
Goodreads or Bookly
already got goodreads
i haven't touched a book in a year lol.
it is like, my favourite hobby, but the least one.
I reread shorter favorites from time to time
Storygraph/Hardcover
i might start reading again, problem is, I try to get into non fiction books, like something related to money, psychology, habits...etc, and I feel like my ADHD hit hard when reading these books, the only times I had my full attention reading these books is when I read The Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Mason, and the habit book (forgot its name) by James Clear, their writing styles make you give the full attention when reading.
I hate non-fiction for the most part
also, The Richest Man in Babylon is probably one of the best finance based book
We share three favorites, you have my stamp of approval
oh my god, so easy to understand and so entertaining to read.
Which ones?
I see you read Crime and Punishment, have you read The Brothers Karamazovs?
by Doestovesky.
third? your first has to be prime and punishment, what is your 2nd?
Notes from Underground
Haven't read that yet
It’s not very long
I have only read 2 doestovesky books, but I liked The Brothers Karamazovs more than Crime and Punishment
but it is just matter of taste, both are equally good imo
Do androids dream of electric sheep, the sound and the fury,catch-22. I also like Dune quite a bit too.
Oh nice. Wasn’t expecting it to be those first two, but Catch-22 is a given
I have to read more PKD and Faulkner. I've barely scratched the surface with their output since I've only read their most popular work , and loved it.
Are there no modern good books? Every time someone makes a list like this it’s just ancient stuff
Which I’ve read some and I agree they’re good but like has no one written something on par since then
Murakami. But I also don’t read newer books or engage with literary discourse anymore. I did a lot in college because I was studying it there
Murakami
Oh god. You’re not a fan?
I hate that guy. He’s written the same thing ten times
I’ve read most of his work and the long form stuff is just the same thing over and over
My partner loves his stuff so I’m obliged to read it
i read one of his books
|| why are Asians authors so invested in incests||
Murakami ||listless 30 something year old man wanders through life and his career woman wife cheats on him and leaves and he is then sexually liberated by a teenager|| Guess which book I’m talking about
his most popular one , right?
forgot the name

You could say any one of his long form novels and be right
1Q84 ||I don’t remember if the MC was divorced but the rest is true||
Lol
kafka in the shore || I remember a cat talking||
What is considered modern in literature????
But to go more in depth, Wombat, I’m using the word modern there differently from the style of literature, “modernist,” that spanned from the 19th to 20th centuries
When Wanze asks “are the no good modern books,” I’m assuming he’s also using the word in relation to recency, which is subjectively defined and not worth discussing. They’re basically asking if anyone likes books that were made within the last decade or something super restrictive like that
And the answer is I wouldn’t know
Lord of the flies?
I hate that book with a passion
Transformers One ||Huh, didn't actually expect it to be good||
Transformers One ||Really like how they spent time developing everyone into what they would eventually become||
Transformers One || they really stuck the landing into it being a genuine tragedy because of how well they developed both Optimus and Megatron’s arcs ||
/lit/ core ass shit
Oh shit I forgot The Sandman what the fuck
Updating it
Watched the first two episodes of Arcane S2
Arcane S2 ||Dude I can't believe they're still using this imagine dragons song||
Lol
lol
Idk if you find that good or not
But I recently watched TYE season 2 and they kept the same utada song for the opening and was pleased
I don't give a fuck about Imagine Dragons, I don't listen to them
First time I’m hearing about it
|| it is true that they suck, but the song fit the opening animation||
Incendies : Done ✅
4.5/5
Incendies || why tf did they make it cryptic to understand who was their father at the end||
I heard people become a cinephile if they watched this movie
The first one was apparently worse. In my time spent reading, I’ve probably viewed literature too much as an educational resource. In the Topster you responded to, that’s me trying not to
If that makes any sense…
Incendies
|| 1. I realised the plot twist 5 min after i completed watching the movie||
|| 2. Man, the mother went through a lot.||
||3. I never expected Christians Isis to to be in a fiction movie||
||4. Fun fact, the middle-eastern places NAMES mentioned in this movie are all fictional||
||5. Another fun fact, the places actually exist, and they are in my hometown lol||
||6. The beginning of the movie when the brother of Nawal said "ya ibn el mokhayamat" or "you son of camps" to Nawal lover, is actually a representation of racial societal issue in Jordan (movie was filmed in Jordan) when the refugees of Palestine's came from war to Jordan back in the 50's 60's and 70's , a racial issue was born between some people originating from Jordan, and Palestinian refugees at that time||
||7. the gasp of Jeanne is Oscar worthy.||
||8. If I only understood the cryptic meaning behind "1+1 = 1" at that moment, but when I realised the plot-twist i was like "ohhhh damn".||
I mean, as long as you enjoy even if you were treating it as educational resource
Moby Dick being in harsh's list is as insane as lord of the flies in yours to me
both were an extreme bore to read for me
I enjoy the analytical and historical aspects
also you should read more pkd
One of the best Denis Villeneuve movies
that's why you read the short story collections
I dislike Norwegian wood as it has none of his plus points and all of his bad stuff
It is amazing how someone like Denis, went from creating Indencies, to Sicario, to Blade Runner and Dune.
I like Kafka on the Shore the most cuz it's an extremely surreal experience at times
dude covered good range of genres.
It shaped my understanding of literature being a medium of many disciplines and experimentation
maybe if I put Sicario on watchlist, then like that I would have watched all his movies.
Interesting. I can't see that work having that kind of effect personally
Watch Polytechnique
I had tried the actual book, gave it up, and then tried a audiobook of it back in 2022 and again gave up
question about indencies and Se7en || did you feel any intensity in the movie, i felt like Se7en was way more intense than this, the ending did me like "ohhhh damn", but Se7en ending actually filled me with anger, and intensity way more than indecies?||
I agree on this
Both these films are extremely different
true.
Incendies is an extremely realistic story, Se7en is pointedly unrealistic and set in a skewed world
Incendies || the most unrealistic part is the mother making her own children suffer to find an answer instead of giving it away to them lol||
Incendies || that’s not unrealistic, parents often do that, they don’t divulge full information in this specific case, due to trauma ||
maybe.
Incendies || The mother is protecting them from the ugly truth, there is no maybe or unrealistic about it ||
incendies ||like yes, you can see how visibly it affected them lol||
incendies ||that doesn't make sense, if she really wanted to protect her children from ugly truth, she should have never told them about a missing brother to begin with.||
regardless, a great movie, and unique.
incendies ||she wanted them to relay her messages to him, knowing she will die and she will eventually leave her past behind, come on man||
incendies ||a woman who has been wronged her entire life finally has a chance to greet her son AND her abuser, she dies before she can do so and so she entrusts it to her children, its not that hard to understand and its not unrealistic either||
indencies || my point is, the whole thing happened to explore her story ofc, i mean the whole "go to middle east and find a bro there" is to actually "initiate" a plot, so it kinda doesn't make sense to say why didn't the mother tell them directly before she died||
that the easiest part i guess
Arcane new show teaser? ||https://youtu.be/VOTeQnJ1XMQ?si=5prQX6Uozb8wW0gq||
Check out the League of Legends 2025 Season 1 cinematic trailer, featuring the track "Bite Marks" with featured artist TEYA. League of Legends Season 1 of 2025 is live on January 9th, 2025, at 12 PM PST/3 PM EST.
#LeagueOfLegends #2025 #Gaming
no
Arcane s2 end ||Seems to imply some things about what mel does after arcane ends but its not a new show teaser. Its a teaser for the next competitive league of legends season||
Next movie options: Dog day afternoon, and justice for all, 12 Angry Men.
The questions posed and avenues of thought explored in the book are good for discussion and application
its a piece of shit
I’m not invested enough
Just don’t call any of my hubby Kafka’s work shit and I think I can survive the day without having a conniption
i find kafka's work really good
i dont like lord of the flies specifically, its boring and its ideas are outdated and responding to a very specific genre of fiction with a very specific intent in mind and pretends that that's a broad statement on humanity and human nature
Not until it’s out on torrents
https://youtu.be/GOjJ8gUpE-4 this guy’s probably the only youtube reviewer i listen to consistently i was surprised to hear he liked it
A biopic about musical artist Robbie Williams in which he is played by.....an ape. Does this gimmick work? Here's my review for BETTER MAN!
#BetterMan #BetterManMovie #RobbieWilliams
Why does that right image look like the niel druckmann version of the mr beast thumbnail meme
Idk beo he just makes faces
they be releasing anything really
What
Yes but what does rhat have to do with the monkey movie
I know nothing about this movie that thumbnail just looks like a live action version of one of the many bored apes
“Live action”
Idek who Robbie Williams is
I’m just surprised to hear its getting good reviews for how shallow the gimmick sounded
Which? YA fiction?
This guy fucking sucks
He did a blackface review once
Island survival stories
Specifically a book called “Coral Island”
I wonder why the book can’t be both a response to Ballantyne’s Coral Island as well as an exploration of morality in a setting vacant of law and order?
I never got the sense that it was masquerading as a broad statement on human nature. Rather I found it to be very forthright in its approach towards establishing itself as philosophical fiction charged by Golding’s experiences in the war and his desire to subvert what he felt were unrealistic narratives pushed by British colonialism, at the time
I definitely agree that the ideas are outdated, though. I still think it’s relevant historically
!!?????????????
I wonder what this says about Wombat?
It says i go outside because im not chronically onlune
I just thought he makes some decent reviews
Why
Dude sucks
Why does he suck
Right wing grift
He reviews Moana bro
And calls it woke/s
So true these damn female protagonists…
Dwayne "The Woke" Johnson
uh...
I believe that this happened but it is not in that review from skimming it
But damn that sucks
this is how i imagine every youtube reviewer
not the racist part
but the condensed buzzword content
Upon further examination this was at LEAST over 8 years ago which still doesn’t make it good but
I hate the "staring at the camera, youtube voice turned on, quick cuts for 'comedic' effect" content
I think if it was like, him trying to be accurate to the character 8 years ago Id say "sure thats a fair argument"
but he threw an afro on

No yeah its bad lol im not disagreeing
I dont know how old it actually is because https://youtu.be/OgMbSUtDU-A i don’t know when the original video was made
Still sucks
anyway that aside watch whatever you want g
I just don't really like his youtube talking/editing style. Very common youtube thing
Fair enough lol
Theres some other ones I like, I just don’t watch YouTube often
Or, as often anymore
I didn't think he was gonna put that much effort into it lmao
jahns mostly just reviews mcu/blockbuster shit
MCPoo
My favorite thing to watch is you opening packs with Vaporeon.
As an aside, heading to theaters for Nosferatu baby.
@tardy dust was banned!
Reason: scam
Storm of swords 600 pages in|| i knew she was likely going to die in the battle but part of me hoped she wouldn’t
||
Nosferatu (I mention Bram Stoker's Dracula, as well) - 7.5/10 ||To be honest, never saw the original, though I have read Bram Stoker's Dracula and it seems to have been inspired by apects of that, if memory serves. Either way, I did enjoy the film, though I hesitate to call it great. However, it is a good film that I do recommend. I was enthralled by the dark tone and overall macabre and downright evil presence Nosferatu's actor, makeup, and accent had on screen. I wont go into detail, but my favorite scene was his shadowed hand reaching out over the town. Honorable mention to his killing of the kids; that thud as the child hit the ground was nasty. And great performances all around, especially the main girl and Dafoe.||
Incendies is so good that I am still thinking about it
50M for the Rock is not worth
Why the hell does he make more than Chris evans
The rock stocks have been down for years
Who is buying, man
Creature Commandos S1E7 Finale- ||What a great show tbh, i really enjoyed it. I wish it was longer because the best parts were the backstories and they went kind of fast. Honestly Ninas mom was a fucking bitch, and her dad had a heart of gold. However, he was kinda dumb lol like bruh just say "YO THATS MY DAUGHTER" and all of this would of been avoided.||
oh I just remembered that the rock basically makes all his movies with his production company so he's paying himself
is it his production company, i literally feel like all CGI looks like GG3

He’s right, no one cares about flash
Couldn’t even reach 10 seasons, stopped at 9
Garbage
I just looked at the rock's filmography, and the only movies in the past 10yrs he didn't produce were the fast and furious movies, moana 1/2, san andreas, and central intelligence
but 2017 and onwards it was all him except moana
i don't believe this is true, but maybe it is. I keep hearing there is a statement in his contract that says he always has to win
There is
but why 😭
Ego
Which is kinda crazy because I know the rock from the wrestling world and he's been a heel before
And people love the rock when he is a villain and he loses plenty of times
So idk why Hollywood is different for him
Imagine casting rock as a bad guy and then spoiling the movie because you know the bad guy will win since it’s in his contract 😔
he doesn't have to win, he just can't lose
Ok before Jumanji what would you say his most popular movie was
I would of said Scorpion king and he was a villain in that one
Oh god I remember dragging my mom to the theaters to see Scorpion King cause The Rock was in it.
Goated
Ten Commandments is a good Egyptian movie too in a way
Because the rock wants to change the hierarchy of the Hollywood cinematic universe
This is the showcase of why Direct-to-Video and humbler theatrical releases were so successful back in the day. A producer/company can throw 100 million at 20 pictures, but even if only one of them breaks it big and earns them over 100 million at the box office/DtV sales, that's still turning a profit with the initial investment.
Rocky, Terminator, American Graffiti, Mad Max, all were incredibly successful on moderate budgets.
Audiences also didn’t clue in as much to franchises and sequels
And none of those movies would've been made today if there wasn't anyone willing to bite the bullet and risk a moderate loss against going all out with a massive financial failure.
e.
I hope the DCU can make a good show for lesser known DC characters in the general public like Zatanna
Lots of things to work with
creature commandos has already done that
Finished J-Drama First Love Hatsukoi ||This was a cute series. I did not expect this series to interchange different periods of time in each episode to tell a long-term romance between two individuals. So I was a little lost at first, but I later understood what the narrative was going for. The pay off to seeing the couple finally confessing to one another with their true romantic feelings was great. One scene that stood out to me was not of the main romance, but a rejection Yae Noguchi did to her taxi driving co-worker. Her rejection went by in a non-troubling manner and these two particular characters had a conversation about the good parts of expressing your love that really resonated with me. The message of just going for your true feelings and not turning back was built up so well. I liked this series.
||
watch "makanai: cooking for the maiko house"
its an adaptation of a manga i really like but i think the show is really good too
sure
noted and added to ptw
Looks like most of the manga is fan-translated too neat.
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 80 ||That was a sweet chapter||
