Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 10 ||Damn, Dalinar removing Kaladin from battle is unexpected but I'm excited to see where this goes||
RoW ch 10 end || The chapter title and end of that chapter
||
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 10 ||Yeah, I've noticed that Brandon likes playing around with those||
RoW ch 10 || that was painful. Immediately after the scene with Moash ||
Yup
Finished Blue Eyed Samurai ||I liked it. This is probably the best lone hero stories I seen in general. Simple story with solid action and a well-written cast. Happy to see Akemi receive her freedom after going through so much shit. She probably is my favorite character in the series so far. Only complaint is minor, but some points in the series visually look kinda janky with close-up shots of background stuff. I enjoyed it and I'll watch the next season.||
I'm probably gonna binge Queen's Gambit tomorrow. This has the girl from the Mario movie in it and it's apparently hype.
Excited to go into this blind.
did this in #other-series so doing it here too.
Books I finished in 2024:
A Psalm for the Wild Built -> 3.5/5

Mistborn -> 3.5/5
Oathbringer -> 5/5
Dawnshard -> 4.75/5
Rhythm of War -> 4/5
Wind and Truth -> 5/5
Good year for books, in your case
better than before
3 books in 2023 to 18 this year
it's gone like
100 -> 25 -> 4 -> 18

Generous Of Mice to Men rating btw
I am still mixed on that one
I found it better than average so gave it 3
But don't feel I liked it enough to give it 3
like 3 seems too high but anything below 3 seems too low
I don’t like that novella at all
The Stranger is another one I am mixed on
some parts of it is strangely relatable that I don't want to admit it was relatable
You almost gave it a perfect score though so it must’ve resonated with you somehow
I love it, personally
it is kinda scary that some parts of it were relatable idk
but yeah
18 books
10000 pages
not amazing but good year
😎
Was Mistborn based on just Era 1 or Era 1 and Era 2?
well finished the sunlit man and damn for the most part this shit is peak fiction
||WTF the High Evolutionary too|| Thor #133
Thor #133
Kirby cooking so much
Thor #133
@meager yoke ||Gandalf the grey btw||
I dont even watch Lotr and I know that
Yeah and you asked for a good example
Look up “It Was His Sled” on TV Tropes
Ohh lol i thought we were talking about Spoilers
Yeye
I just think it can be done well in a narrative
Oda has never done it well though

damn youre slow
Didn’t ping me for such an insane chapter…cruel
He hates you
true
I forgot to because you never read em
and because you hate him
I was gonna watch Dragonball Evolution tonight against my best judgement but apparently this isn't even available for free on any service
I'm not paying to rent this stupid movie
Smh
I would call that a sign from god
I'm watching Tron instead 😔
The Disney+ PlayStation app is so outrageously bad that it's corrupted the video 3 different times in its first two minutes
If Roku gives me the same issue Im giving up on this movie and buying Dragonball Evolution
I used to use funimation for dubs but it got bought by crunchyroll. That was the worst app I've ever used by far. Couldn't navigate through the catalogue half the time
yeah funimation app was terrible on my ps4
but the crunchyroll one is bad too
its why I cancelled my sub
Supporting dragon ball evolution financially is a crime and you will be punished
Not to mention the eternal guilt you’ll feel for the rest of your life
remember this when/if you finish the movie
This movie is awesome
Nonsense but awesome
They should make a third Tron movie with Billy Mitchell as the villain
Watched A Complete Unknown, it was pretty good Ngl
Might’ve been my last movie for the year. Great year!
Cobra Kai latest || Not sure how they'll go about continuing the tournament, but I think if anything we're gonna see an actual change of heart from Kreese this time. Him realizing the effects of his ideology taken to the extreme.||
Update: Tron kicked ass, loved it
No idea why I had a rating for it on letterboxd when I've never watched it, did I rate it based on my experience with fuckin Kingdom Hearts or something
Maybe I got drunk and watched 20 minutes of it in college before checking out and giving it a score
Maybe this weekend I'll watch Tron Legacy and continue my deep dive into hour long Daft Punk music videos
if you wanna watch daft punk videos, watch the movie that goes with one of their albums
I watched that last week
If I watch Legacy I can finally buy the vinyl for it without feeling like a poser and finish my collection
Which tron lol
Man the disney one is kinda dumb but part of me has to admit its a vibe
Watching Tron put me in an isekai mood so I'm continuing the trend with The Wizard of Oz
Haven't watched this since I was like 7 or something
the GOAT
its crazy hearing how the production of wizard of oz was just complete hell lol
Do I have to tag fuckin Wizard of Oz this films almost a century old and every scene from it is embedded in pop culture
Whatever lol
Wizard of Oz ||Dude the Lion is so much funnier than I remembered I love this guy. Only memory I had was his intro in the forest
Tin Mans the weakest party member he's barely had a role so far||
Dude you have to tag dragonball ofc you do
Dont even say that shit youre just being one of those people
I know a ton of people here haven’t watched Wizard of Oz
I dont think wizard of oz is a common kids movie anymore with youtube’s and tiktok’s rise in prominence
Glad you enjoyed it
How are you enjoying the film now Bon
Has it been a long time since you’ve last seen it
I'm glad it's still 5 stars I was worried it might not hold up
I haven’t rewatched the movie in about a decade
I should watch return to oz after this and ruin my night
My condolences
I think it's been 23 years
Planning to watch this next
I had to tag bambi gang
just use that wonderful spoiler feature
🫡
speaking of bambi i should rewatch
Maybe Akira after, orrr, Departed Away
spoiler tagging the wizard of oz is crazy
do we have to spoiler tag if we wanna talk about the odyssey too?
I don't even know what is Odyssey about, so yeah.
Not everyone was born in Europe/USA to learn the book in elementary school.
Watch Akira and then read it if you can
The Batman ||there were some costumeless scenes where his performance fell flat in selling the brooding vengeful lad but overall he played it well yeah||
The Batman ||standout scenes are the entrance to the club, the car chase, and wading through the water with the flare||
The Batman || I fuckin love the car chase scene||
The Batman ||what I mean by this is he gives off "me trying to look cool in 6th grade but this is what I really looked like" vibes sometimes without the outfit||
I get that
He’s gamerfied
I was thinking this exact
Same thing
my irl friends talked about disliking it and I immediately thought "wait they love le epic movie and hate well written slow burns, which I love"
and decided to watch it
the normie twitter user gif is wild tho
...
I just picked the first gif

first good red western series opinion (arcane doesnt count)
that's ok
im neutral on tdkr. it has its good moments but still the weakest in the trilogy
not a bad movie tho
would put it above half the mcu lol
Ye
ye
That one’s the worst of the three but still good
The one it's ok to hate
Dark knight rises ||I hate the ending and bane is cringe||
Dark Knight Rises || ye the ending blows||
I’ll pretend I remember what the ending was
TDKR ending || bruce having fixed the autopilot and surviving after the sacrifice scene. The police inspector's middle name being robin and he goes to find batcave ||
this scene was peak tho
TDKR ending || https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gW6QSd63XcE ||
|| Let's ignore the fact that Gordon as a police officer has probably done that act to several people so singling out Bruce is impossible ||
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - "Batman Reveals His True ID to Gordon"
TDKR || that robin part just reminded me of something really funny i saw recently
||
👀
TDKR/superman
|| this came from the “snyders krypto jokes” and its so stupid i love it ||
I have no clue what that is
Yeah I mean I know that.
But || what is snyder krypto || tdkr/superman
TDKR/superman || ah, when the trailer came out people were just making edits to yhe krypto scene and captioning it “zack snyders” krypto
||
|| they’re all so silly and i love them ||
😭
Starting Queen's Gambit
TDKR ending ||it's not, because Bruce Wayne is one of the most famous people in the City. Gordon would definitely remember comforting a young Bruce Wayne whose parents were just murdered, before anybody else||
TDKR ending ||he is the most famous person yeah and its such a gruesome crime that gordon would definitely remember bruce||
yep
TDKR ending ||was looking for a famous person as an example but this yt comment picked John Cena so there you go I guess||
TDKR ending || He would have comforted a lot of people similarly
Tho I guess his mind would immediately connect that only a rich person could have made these scifi-ish vehicles and stuff ||
TDKR ending ||yeah his mind would jump to Bruce Wayne first and if you have him and Batman in the same conversation (and are someone like Jim Gordon) youre probably going to understand||
I remember hating tdkr when it was new
I never saw begins tho and im not even a big fan of tdk either
Much prefer the Keaton and Pattinson and Adam West takes on the character
Lol
Havent seen the new one yet
I like TKDR but yeah I guess its the worst one of those.
TDKR ending ||was Batman surviving worse than Pell?
||
New ones the best Batman movie but my heart still belongs to Batman Returns and that's probably a nostalgia thing
That movie is insane in a way that I jive with
Ive started watching the Batman cartoon with my brother
Devito turns out an unhinged performance only beaten by his role on Its Always Sunny
TDKR end || Nah cuz there's no Will of B like Will of P ||
TDKR end/One Piece ||Bartholomew Kuma, Bentham, Bellamy||
TDKR end/OP manga latest ||Bartolomeo too if he survives the Yasopp attack which he will||
TDKR latest||those aren't similar to Will of P ||
any spoiler of last 5 chapters?
I am not uptodate

People moved on from arcane too fast
I haven't even watched it yet 😞

I know
, I’m just watching it with new people every time so i have more people to talk to
Do it
Waiting on the fam to be available
ngl i dropped arcane like 6 episode in
tragic
How come?
idk i guess i just dont have any interest in any of the characters
ig i havent realllyy dropped it but i havent watched an episode in weeks and any desire to watch it comes from wanting to just get over it
peacemaker is such an insane character
I read Marv wolfmans vigilante and he shows up quite a bit
what are movies that I can peek

no series plz
A Charlie Brown Christmas
This is the Charlton version which was played straight afaik, so a nothing burger really
gave me the perfect excuse to go listen to the soundtrack again
Jokes aside it's technically a series but prehistoric planet is the best original thing on Apple TV
so many great shows on apple
some of the best actors on the planet
acting their asses off
only for no one to watch those shows
besides severance and monarch
In theory it could be like any other standalone service but something about not being in the apple ecosystem makes apple tv unappealing to me
My dad likes Foundation and keeps telling me to watch it
it also has a very boring interface and app
not appealing at all even on my apple devices
As a dog?
its legitimately impossible to find stuff on apple tv plus yeah
but i'm still paying for severance and several other shows
I feel like a scumbag relying on seven seas when I make a good living. Idgaf if other people do though
i torrent most of my stuff anyway but torrenting only gets you somewhere
its hard to find old movies with decent seeders
What's that movie on there about how animals really bounced back and thrived in urban areas during the pandemic
I liked that
Can't remember the name
Need some real paid impressions in the mix or all my favorite shit more likely to get canceled. Idk If that's true but seems right
Mashallah
DCEU being dead is a miracle for us pasto
I liked his aquaman it was nice but this is perfect
Zachary Levi waiting on that call lmao
Why can’t he stfu
I liked him I thought he did great as Shazam
LEVI PUT THE PHONE DOWN AND PICK THE PURPLE CRAYON UP
Part of me wants/wanted to feel bad for him but seems he’s genuinely fried
He’s genuinely a nutcase
Now cast Ben Schwartz as plastic man
the fancast came true after all
the failed actor to maga/trump grifter pipeline
Ultraman: A Special Effects Fantasy Series
Urutoraman: Kûsô tokusatsu shirîzu
It's time
I know I’m late but battlestar galactica is so good
Finished Queen's Gambit ||Good show! For most of the series it heavily focused on the main character's development and backstory. I like the visual storytelling that said everything needed to show what Lize was going through. I love her little arc of going from an arrogant genius to a calmer one that's able to beat the chess world champion. I could get into her character in a way because I too visualize a lot when comes to creating from the imagination, when it comes to her chess games. The protagonist having to really learn in the final episode that there are people alongside her willing to help her get over her drunkenness and improve her chess skills brought about a pretty hype and emotional finale. I have more appreciation for ceilings now and further disdain for alcohol now, though I never drank.
||
when did you finished it?????
sometime before I posted the impressions
Okey that was FAST , but I’m glad you liked it tho
gunn could still cast any of them in the future, not like momoa is aquaman again lol
I hope he doesn't cast any of them
yeah, id rather lesser known actors
I just mean that 3 out of the 5 in that pic are ass and idk what affleck or cavill could be cast as
Cast Cavill as Bizarro
yeah let him work on warhammer like he wants to
@sage sleet zachary levi just fell to his knees
I read no country for old men on the plane. So peak. Exceptional dialogue. Gonna rewatch the movie when I get home
bro just had to put the phone down and take a walk or sumn
really liked his shazam but shazam 2 over john wick 4 is brutal
i liked shazam 2 for what it was but cmon bud take a cold shower
Yeah, bro just thought he had that pull
he just gotta... get off social media for a while then simmer down
Mufusa ||what a movie man||
@blissful quest diamanti ||It was about a high end tailor shop that made costumes for movies and theater owned by two sisters. The movie was set into two acts, first that focused on the hardships of the employees with troubled homes: violent husbands, treason, financial; on the other hand it focused on the empowerment 9f a community these ladies gave to each other, how they deep le cared for one another and how they were also ready to help out.
The second act focused on the sisters and their hardships, one was really rigid, cold and categorical. You could count the times she smiled on one hand, she was relentless and unbending, a true force; but even then she cared for her employees and sisters, you could see her empathy in actions you wouldn't expect from her, u loved her character.
O.the other hand the sister had lost her foughter 5 years prior and she hadn't still processed her loss and you could see how her eyes were often times absent. There was a breaking point between the two that just made me bawl, it was really touching ||
Ooooo that sounds interesting
||sounds like something I’d cry over too||
Yes, I totally did
I don’t really explore many movies or series outside of my comfort zone
I end up missing out on cool films
Late I've been rewatching some
You ever watch what we do in the shadows
Yeeesss
I love them all
I can say a character name without spoiler tagging right?
Main character from ep one
i love clowns too
Yea
Nandor is my favorite
They the best
Buggy the only clown I need to sell me
buggy.. oh buggy
What’s that reaction
I think for me it's laszlo
WWDITS S2 Ep 6 ||CRAVENSWOORRRTTTHHHH||
Was gonna watch Shin Ultraman after finishing the 60s comic, was kinda using it as an abridged summary of what this franchise is even about
It's only on Tubi with ads
Wwdits s2e6 ||I loved Jackie daytona arc||
Arguably one of my favorite episodes
Is it just me that’s noticed Cynthia Erivo is getting featured a lot less then Arianna in promo and shit?
ive experienced it to be equal tbh
ive only really seen them together
1 year later
You can tell some characters got old issue appearances indexed, cause I for sure did not read any Captain Marvel Jr stories this year lol
Pretty sure there's still plenty of work to do on that, so these are not the real stats yet
Furiosa over Dune Part 2???
also really a great year for Horror lol
Everyone's list has a lot of horror movies this year
yeah I just looked at the images and not at any of the text lol
Gonna watch a movie called Call Me Chihiro
which Indian movie would make the list?
👀
I haven't watched much this year
multiple
bramayugam, kishkindha kaandam, meiyazhagan, manjummel boys, saripodha sanivaram
no hindi movies
I had been meaning to watch bramayugam. Couldn't make time yet
Finished Call Me Chihiro ||A really nice slice of life film about an older woman helping and cheering up random strangers she comes across. Her journey to finding her own happiness carried by a strong sense of emptiness and lack of direction in spite of her sheer kindness is something I could relate to a lot. The movie makes its points effectively in a slow and chill way and I really like it for that. I liked it. ||
Heyyyy i watched the same movies
Except from didi and anora , will watch Anora soon tho
Tomorrow for new years, I'm gonna watch RRR.
Heard good things about this one. First Hindi film too.
@white smelt You asked for this.

Correction: not a Hindi film
it said in this netflix thumbnail
hmmm
Also watching Arcane S2 too tomorrow I guess.
Make sure to ping updates to harsh in real time

Favorite book of the year probably toll the hounds. Weird with wot I also like third to last the most. In both cases the finals are good too but I liked previous better
@modern lichen here I'll ping him for you
That'll be a nice wake up message for him
I read two whole books this year

Depends, for me it takes me like 30 minutes for DC and 45 for Marvel, Stan Lee and his wordy ass pages lol
okey makes sense then , but can they write a proper story in only 40 on average minutes worth of read?
Sometimes it is split in 2 or 3 stories
Mostly 1 or 2 stories where I am rn
If you are not used to old comics, it probably will be hard to get into it lol
ive read exactly zero comics , but want when i get back home to try out once or two see how i like it
You should read bone
Then stop after that because you’ve peaked
You’d be right

@bold yew https://readallcomics.com/bone-1991-001/
55 issues
I series with so many issues can’t be peak …
Monarch of chaos said that they read those books back in school , I’m convinced .
It’s basically 55 chapters, if you’re more familiar with weeb speak
That was my attempt to be funny
Disney and their fake news…

Allegedly they're buying up studio time slots to show Mufasa more
Sonic 3 is gonna royally cook them once it's released internationally
Sonic 3 -|| that was straight up a DBZ super episode ||
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 13 ||Damn, there's more to Shallan's past? Funny how much Mraize knows about Investiture and Connections to Roshar and Scadrial and Nalthis. Bro really became exposition man but that intrigues me; Wonder if he's aware of Hoid.||
Hanging at my parents house for new years and watched Freddie Mercury: The Final Act
Seen a lot of stuff about his death and the aids controversy over the years but I think this was my favorite version of it
this is perhaps the worst new years wake up
blue will like it
“It’s like fast and furious, but Indian. I like it.” -blue
NO
Lmfao
“It would’ve been better if the MCs were women” - Blue
fuck
@sage sleet
Its so over, Gunn might as well resign
Why are people like this
Guys move on!!!! Take a shower!
His username being “FuckGunn” is just.. 🤌
Its so funny because snyders universe was dead before Gunn even took over
snyder fans so edgy they should be auto enlisted and put on the front lines
squid games 🔥
plot twist, thats snyder
Snyder is actually a good sport
they should just let him write a comic run or sumn
his edge seems like it would be better as a comic
but even then i wouldn't rock w it personally
well no they should let him do nothing for dc

i never seen fast and furious
Missing out on cinema…
It's like RRR but American
i will chuck myself off a cliff
ZACHARY LEVI REFERENCE ???!?!!!!!?!??!?

The Penguin episode 3 || Penguin a pos smh. Leaving Sophia behind
||
Who's this imposter using Red's account
Man even went on and watched Penguin
Why would I not watch the penguin after the batman…
Also I like television more than movies
Starting Arcane S2
Dune part 2 is on Netflix ayo
Starting RRR
god
Just watched the gentlemen, pretty good Guy Ritchie movie
Always love his characters
Same. Sad to hear about The Batman's delay because I was geniunly hyped after I finished it.
I finished RRR ||For a simple story about a couple of fellas trying to get a kidnapped daughter from a foreign empire, this was very enjoyable and amusing, at least for the first hour. I loved the insanity. By the next two hours, I honestly couldn't take much of the sheer insanity. It started to burn me out personally and I couldn't react much to the rest of the movie. Personally speaking, this story dragged an hour too long for me. Still, I respect this movie a lot for all the great choreography and insane action stuff put in display to make the film as entertaining as possible. This film is definitely one of a kind.||
One of a kind? There’s 11 fast and furious movies…

has anyone read journey to the west? Does it hold up as an entertaining read in modern times
It does
I read the abridged "Monkey" translation of it by Arthur Waley that retains the playfulness of the story but simplifies a lot of the Chinese language and focuses more on the comical and endearing chapters rather than the allegorical ones since they're easier to parse for a modern reader
It's also old as shit so you can probably find it as a Google book or at your library without much fuss
plan to watch the penguin after i finish reading 20th cb
👏
Yeah, same. It’s a bummer
there was no racing
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 15/Warbreaker ||Zahel is Vasher, isn't he?||
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 15/Warbreaker ||Ohhhhhhhh, Azure is Vivenna; Man, I should've made that connection last book lmao||

RoW ch15/warbreaker ||you should check Zahel's interlude 6 in words of radiance||
Stormlight 1 - 3 ||I don't remember when but I remember seeing the words Heightening and Breaths at some points||
I'm definitely rereading this all again though
I want to reread Mistborn too
Ahhh I see
Stormlight 2: Words of Radiance Interlude 6 ||Zahel speaks in a way that talks about colors; See, I suspected but I didn't put 2 and 2 together. He talks about expecting a voice in his head though and I guess I didn't make the Nightblood connection smh||
Stormlight 2: Words of Radiance Interlude 6 ||In my defense, that shit was like one page||
yeah you finish it in like 2 minutes and move on with the book lol it's definitely easy to gloss over
man I should really stop opening this app at 1am I just wrote a sentence like 5 times and kept deleting it
Lol
I reread mistborn till like halfway of the 2nd book then when wind&truth dropped I stopped so I can reread stormlight instead
proceeded to NOT reread stormlight
fucked myself for no reason 🔥
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 15 ||Ok I audibly laughed, funny seeing curses like that in Stormlight when you get so used to "storming this" or "cremling that"||
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 15 ||Yeah, Mraize dropping names like Scadrial and Nalthis really sent me. I expected the worlds to converge but it's also tying together a lot differently than I expected||
row ch15 ||I love the fact that 90% of the cosmere aware characters just all really hate wit
||
Yeah lmao
I’m so pumped, I was supposed to go on Saturday but I got sick again so have delayed it. Gonna book tickets for a showing tomorrow I think
Has the Bon approval tho which bodes well🫡
It's the kind of horror I love
And the way it embellishes on but respects the original is really expertly and carefully done
Scott Pilgrims Movie spoilers/One Piece chap 1056 spoilers ||you could say that the cross guild is like Shanks league of evil exes||
CR C3 ep 14 ||RUSS NOO
||
Real
not even going to bother establishing context for you
Lol
not an iota of intellectual curiosity and a desire to know context
I mean its much more than what Blue said even without context
@shrewd sigil have you still not read WaT?
I agree
Shut the fuck up dude
I'm sorry that I'm laughing at your pain, harsh
it wouldnt be funny if his reactions weren't so raw
well he really liked RRR so I knew it was gonna be funny
Shin Ultraman is a hard movie to parse
Shin Ultraman/Shin Godzilla ||I quite liked it and feel like it accomplished every single one of its goals but it feels like it only selected SFX Theatrical Film as its medium so it could have the budget it wanted, not because it was the storytelling format best suited for what it was trying to do. Total success as a big modern throwback to early Tokusatsu and Ultraman fans through a new perspective, kind of a hollow film when taken in isolation
I think I'd have liked this more if Shin Godzilla didn't already represent how to do the things this was doing but flawlessly, though I totally understand how its way easier to adapt the original Godzilla film into this style than a lengthy campy TV series. Because adapting the spirit of Ultraman is adapting the whole mythos. Iconic monsters and kaiju and the ongoings of the team at the SSSP alongside Ultramans own existentialism. It's an episodic superhero serial, and thats exactly how the film adapts it, breaking it down into really obvious and clear cut episodes. So the political bureaucracy and social commentary of how the real world would react to something like this actually happening, the Prime Minister and government intelligence fretting over the men in costumes beating the shit out of each other while foreign powers threaten them, feels a lot looser than in Shin Godzilla simply from lack of runtime and from large gaps of in-universe time.
It ended up being the bridge between the different Ultraman episodes with the audience only seeing glimpses of the behind the scenes. It can't carry the film yet takes so much time away from our core characters. The movie still works but I'm glad I indoctrinated myself in Ultraman a bit before checking it out, because the fun of it is seeing this sorta shit interpreted faithfully at a higher budget and from a ground level perspective, but as a story it feels like a means to an end.||
those thoughts ended up getting more specific than i thought and i had to retag them like 4 times oops
It’s not about that, I was dreading the sort of incuriosity this dude has when experiencing anything other than Japanese media and that’s exactly what happened, it’s hard to delve into the cultural nuances of it if the person who experienced it has no interest in actually parsing what they watched, I seem like an elitist idiot here trying to gatekeep things but it’s only out of my desire to express more love for the cinema and culture of my country
nah I get it man
Indian cinema has often been ridiculed for being “over the top” but the thought and intention that went behind RRR and its representation of the freedom movement outside the confines of the known history of it and its honoring of real life heroes by taking them as protagonists of this movie and shaping an alternate history that’s exciting and yet emotionally palpable
made this for 2025
Western bingo
perchance....
nope
I'll read it in about 3 weeks when my exams end
(if I don't do horribly in the exams)
Storm of swords|| was not expecting mormont to just die but I guess that’s on me lol||

Buried Giant is so good
I should also make a book bingo ig
Tho I will probably just do Daniel Greene Server Bingo
Some of these seem fun
The Penguin End || killing vic was fucked up... And its even more fucked up that it was a pointless death since he keeps his mom and eve around anyway??????
But this ended perfectly. I kinda dislike that theres gonna be a season 2 lol||
The Batman / The Penguin end ||Agreed about the second season. I’d like it a lot if Oz was the sequel movie’s direct antagonist, but maybe they’re building him up for the third film in the trilogy.
The ending scene between Oz and his mom is especially fucked up because it’s not only the exact opposite of what Francis wished but it also accentuates Oz’s deeply fucked up ego ||
The Batman/Penguin ||him for the third film would be interesting. It feels like theyre not trying to go in the direction of any of the like, superpowered villains in this series. I hope they keep it that way. Bring in more of the grounded villains.||
i can choose ur mod choice
Become mod in daniel greene server
i own that server
I trust you
No historical romance and no non-fiction
Ham on rye by Charles Bukowski
Historical fictionalization of his life
I hate Bukowski
Feels like reading a edgy person’s idea of profundity
20% into The Lowland (according to my Kindle), might finish it in like 2 days
Excellent prose and storytelling
Did you read ham on rye?
ya I dunno, I wouldn’t call him profound at all
I don’t think he really tries to be
Bro specifically found a somewhat fiction book to recommend and loophole the no non fiction rule
Post Office is aight
I’ve seen a lot of kickback against him in recent years by people on social media
I sent the first one I thought of lmao

It also has romance
But it’s not a historical romance
And it’s bukowski romance lol

But yeah, I don’t really get the hate for his autobiographical works. I can understand not enjoying reading it
But it’s mostly just him riffing off and you the reader understanding that he’s a ninny
and enjoying the sort of situations he writes about
I genuinely dont know if Ive read a full book to completion (non-sparksnotes) since I chose cats cradle as one of my highschool assignment books to read
Try reading something like Earthsea
all the story beats you will have seen before
Appealing to the weeb sensibility
Itd be funny if you both suggested kids books
Earthsea is supposed to be for children but I see more benefit reading it as an adult
Erm the movie was ass so the book obviously is too…
Nothing like the stupid goro Miyazaki film that le guin thought wasn’t Earthsea at all
I knew you’d say something like that
I cant tell if its a real suggestion or a joke one
Just try the first book, man, Wizard of Earthsea provided a blueprint to many fantasy later but nothing ever reached its level of complexity and nuance
It’s by Vonnegut
Nah I loved cats cradle. Might be the only book I read that I truly loved lol
It all comes full circle
I like Sirens of titan more
Maybe one day
Haven't read a proper book in like 8 years
Woman version of novel…
Try Monk and Robot series
You like Aria, right Rei?
This server turns everyone trans. It was bound to happen eventually
LMAO
You will like Monk and Robot too prolly
First book is "A Psalm for the Wild Built"
Sounds good. I’ll try and find some time to squeeze it in. Shouldn’t be too difficult now that busy season is over at work

I can confirm
Yeah, I can do that in two days
It’s very short
Just read it
Do you feel the same about confederacy of dunces
If you hate bukowski after 10 pages read all the pretty horses by cormac mccarthy instead
To a certain extent, yes
I kind of see them the same
Confederacy is especially detached though, it’s a perfect encapsulation of the like
disgruntled person in denial about their life
I would probably start McCarthy with The Road.
So yeah probably won't do that
I like most of what I’ve read of his more than the road
The only McCarthy I haven’t read yet are his newest books and I have them on my to read this year
But I guess it’s his most popular
Stella Maris and The Passenger
I think Blood Meridian is more popular but The Road and No Country for Old Men are close
The road somehow has like 700k more ratings than anything else of his
I was expecting it to be closer
on good reads obv
On Goodreads?
Hm
I somehow find Goodreads to be inundated with idiotic fluff being boosted by young people who have no clue how to evaluate storytelling
Just take a look at the most popular books at the moment
Make a Storygraph account 😎
(Idk how the community is in that)
Is that the anilist of book trackers
Yes
I’m sold

Ok backup instead is uhh
Have you read any PKD
A good amount. He's one of my fav authors
Do you want a book with no historical romance AND it is fiction?
I have read uhh Do Android dream of electric sheep, man in high castle, scanner darkly, minority report, ubik
Yeah that's probably it
Sure.
No like what exactly do you want lol
And no fantasy. Already a lot of fantasy in my list for this year
Ok bukowski backup is daughter of earth by agnes smedly
I tried to think of the complete opposite book wise
If you hate him read that
Ham on rye is ||basically more cynical punpun if you got to see his whole life ||
I mean, I don't have any specific demand.
Juba was planning to rec me one and I only told the ones I would be opposed to reading
I felt similarly after reading both
thanks
I will go my entire life without ever making a topster
Cool database they’ve constructed though
It’s the most handy thing for a lazy person like me
I have yet to see a topster music list that doesn’t look like every other topster music list
The guy who made the original one went insane
Maybe it’s connected
RYM tax
And Fantano too tbf
I know it as /mu/ tax
I think I prefer media discourse when everyone involved is anonymous
I just don’t prefer it on 4chan lol
I’m in the mood to watch Oldboy
This is my issue lol
I grew up on image boards and love the actual format
They attract the worst kinds of human beings though
Only use em to lurk rec threads now
I could make a list of Indian film albums I really like
RRR ||For a simple story about a couple of fellas trying to get a kidnapped daughter from a foreign empire, this was very enjoyable and amusing, at least for the first hour. This film is definitely one of a kind.||
this person loves being cold and winter
Jahan, you know very well
love you too
2025 Novel Bingo
Why is the top middle blank
I have to wait for something that looks interesting to me.
a couple people were planning to do Shadow of the Torturer so would probably do that (in the dg server)
other than that, I am happy with my tbr for this year
the longest is probably Priory and it's 3/4 of TWOk
Mods stealing my content. Reported.
there's nothing in your content to steal blue, dont worry
made this
realized there were more scores i loved but this is a decent selection of them
Yep
/mu/ and melon play into it for sure, half posturing half because both are actual great sources for discovering music for people who are inclined to care about it
@sage remnant We could buddy read this
Also you should read arcanum unbound (all of it) but specifically The Emperor's Soul which is a fantastic standalone novella that takes place on the Elantris planet and also Mistborn: Secret History after you finish Era 1
soon
near april then ig
Bet

I love this movie. I watched this while tripping on some Devil Fruits. It just gets better and better. Bromance to the next level
It's not a real review
Shenanigans
Well, this is not a review channel 🤣
I just gave my opinion about it 😅
If you were letting yourself browse stuff on your phone and not actively engaged with the movie the whole time, I think it would be easy to accidentally break the necessary immersion. You gotta keep the momentum and feel like these big sweaty chads are right there swinging from ropes and other wild shit
I loved it. Theaters in my area still show it regularly and it sells out. Harsh pointing out the nuance that was totally lost on me is interesting. I appreciated it more like the anime movie “Redline” due to the total insanity beginning to end. The dudes are so jacked and their hair is so perfect it makes it all the more hilarious. The scenes highlighting their physique are so wildly over the top I can’t help but celebrate their greatness. The music is the cherry on top.
I took a small break every hour to get myself properly immersed in the movie and I still got burnt out.
that's asking a lot.
i wasn't particularly distracted, because the bizarre cinematography and characters had me glued initially.
I think Indian cinema is showing “over the top” doesn’t need to be an artistic liability or negative. Is RRR “over the top”, or does it tell a story using entirely different paradigm than most western movies? I’d say it is more accurate to say the latter.
But when people have very little exposure to Indian cinema, of course it’s going to be surprising and feel really wild.
I think RRR shows India can own the “over the top” label and carve out their own new perspective on storytelling through cinema. It’s a welcomed addition to me. There is inherent value to artistic expression having a new structure. It can be appreciated while also being acknowledged as very different.
Yeah I mean it’s also just a super long movie so there’s that component as well. No shame in it not holding your attention. Everyone has their own taste. I benefited from watching it with friends. It was more like riding a roller coaster than appreciating a story for us. Then by the end we were all like “wow that was actually a pretty great movie”. We all expected to just laugh at the usual Bollywood craziness and were pleasantly surprised
A lot more people nowadays after RRR. Tons of people who have never seen Indian movies or didn’t like them have become diehard fans after RRR. Major theaters in the US still play it every so often and it sells out every time
To each their own. Wasn’t my cup of tea before either. More like something to laugh at while hanging out with friends. But RRR really is special. At least IMO
@limber urchin I gotta ask. Did you ever watch Top Cat? I recently got sent a Spanish dub clip and I swear it's so much better in Spanish.
Yesn't. This is one of those older hanna barbera animations that I caught random glimpses of growing up but never sat down and actively paid attention to.
Does anyone speak French?
Completely unrelated but I thought I'd update you on my The Way of Kings progress: I'm having a good time and am over half-way through at near page 700.
Top Cat (why am I tagging this? It has no plot) ||https://www.youtube.com/shorts/fVut-x7QpGs?feature=share||

ha i'm kind of impressed with the lip sync
it triggered a random Spanish memory for me though
Spanish dubs are usually very, very meticulous about that.
When I bought Mortal Kombat: Annihilation of VHS years back, I didn't realize I had bought it with Spanish subtitles and would randomly learn a Spanish word here and there because of it.
At least Mexican ones. This is also a major reason as to why some dubs ended up changing the dialogues and incorporated local jokes just so it could be lip synced.
incorporating jokes that the audience can understand can sometimes work, at least if they would never had understood the original context of the language it was originally recorded in. I think?
though, I think I usually prefer when anime sticks to the source materla as much as possible myself
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Interlude 3 ||Man, I am SICK, SICK, I tell you of this guy. Jk but goddamn bro, someone needs to put Taravangian down||
Stormlight 5 || He doesnt know
||
fav movies of 2024:
- Challengers
- Anora
- Dune 2
- The Substance
- Furiosa
do you guys have any list?
Anora goat
I watched a ton of films that came out this year but didn’t like very many, dunno why.
1.
2.
3. Conclave
4. Kneecap (kind of stupid lol but a bit charming)
5. Nosferatu (didn’t love)
Haven’t seen Vermiglio or The Brutalist yet but they’d probably be #1 and #2 so I’ll just leave those spots empty
read good stuff about brutalist so will def see that one and looking very much forward to Nosferatu
i recommend you check out vermiglio if you can see it
ive heard amazing things
@trim crown you too, it's italian
havnt heard about it, will check
I barely watched 2024 films this year lol
Mostly been a backlog year
- Nosferatu
- Dune Part 2
- Wicked
Seeing wicked tomorrow and Nosferatu on Saturday
I still need to see Nosferatu, but I did see Wicked.
In the meantime, Grey's Anatomy has broken my heart.
(Big spoiler)
i've seen it, its ok
RRR isn't new in owning the "over-the-top" aesthetic to carve a perspective, its been inherent in Indian cinema for a while
But Indian cinema isn't just "over-the-top", like just below your comment, an idiot was being dismissive about Indian cinema, that says it all
what didnt you like about it
didnt fully buy into the family drama
Watch treasure planet and paddington 2 🫶🏼 and financially support me 🫶🏼
treasure planet lmaoo
i've come to appreciate treasure planet more these days, especially for the effort made
You’ll still watch paddington 2 and financially support me right
ive seen paddington
paddington 2 is better
I will be seated day 0 for paddington 3
that it was melodramatic? or contrived?
I work a breakfast shift then imma nap and watch paddington 3 until my eyes bleed
Needa watch more movies not just recent ones
it felt calculated in its intended dramatic quality rather than being natural
so contrived? i think most historical dramas tend to be
beautifully captured on film though, its really well shot
you could say its contrived, yeah
Did anyone here watch saturday night i thought it was fun
But where's Sonic
You've abandoned him 😞
i didnt see didi
didi is really good
sonic 3 was just released into theatres a day ago lol
here in india
Being slow to buy the ticket means you've spiritually abandoned him
shocked how much i liked transformers one but goddamn that movie wasnt sold well
Yeah the trailers for that were genuinely horrible
Maybe I'll watch Look Back sometime this weekend I feel bad ignoring it
i reread the one shot recently to argue with steph
genuinely succeeds the source material and makes it better
i love it
I already liked the source material despite some little wrinkles here and there
the voice acting, the adaptation from page to screen, the emotional power, it hits
i loved it
still need to watch the new cillian murphy movie
Man alien romulus was really good but the legacy sequel stuff was so much worse then some other legacy sequel stuff
murphy was good obv
yeah it was fun
Alien romulus ||“get….your hands off her…you bitch?…” bro didnt know what he was saying 😭😭😭||
i prefer first omen or transformers one for like the legacy stuff
this year was perhaps the worst for comic book films
of irish films i preferred the stupid rap one to small things lol
reminded me of the early 2000s
kneecap
oh kneecap?
yeah
sally rooney has hogged all the cultural limelight of ireland
i still need to read intermezzo, this year i will
still havent seen the brutalist cause no showings
heard one bad thing from a friend in new york
I totally skipped Romulus I'm too emotionally checked out from the Alien franchise to care anymore even if it's pretty good
that felicity jones is awful
the brutalist is the most anticipated film i have besides nosferatu
I haven't even played alien isolation yet and I've had a physical copy since I got a PS4 in 2015
i have only heard felicity jones is incredible
isolation is the scariest game i ever played
he just said she was miscast and too ridiculous
huh
Heard mixed things about nosferartu, but people say Lilly did a good job in acting
She's great in it
At least she got to act in a good movie because The Idol was a disaster.
i dont buy it as a film on its own
like if i showed it to someone without the context of the original or the genre
i've seen praise for:
- adrien brody
- guy pearce
- felicity jones
- joe alwyn
Tha latter is a series.
cool
Well yeah, weird kinky stuffs?
That I imagine what is going on, right?
have you never read vampire literature
The movie deals with a lot of sexual content but not in an exploitative way, it's just leaning into vampire shit
Nosferatu is coming in our theatres tomorrow , probably will go watch it if I find people who want to watch it
vampires are inherently sexual creatures
i need to rewatch the herzog nosferatu before i go in to watch the eggers one
Did anyone watch twisters that was dumh fun
i liked twisters
Do I need to ?
If I like the movie I’ll probably see it after
Eggers Nosferatu ||I really like how the film makes vampires initially alluring but as things continue they show their true nature and tear you apart like a wolf. It's so visceral.||
Watched the second movie of quite place today , so I want to check the third whenever there is time
First one was still the best
Quiet Place Day One was okay
It’s a prequel right ?
yes
Finally got around to watching arcane, just finished season one
But this year had such a great bunch of movies
Last great film I watched was the substance so 2024 ended with a banger , films wise
oh i still need to watch the new eisenberg film, "a real pain"
heard it was great
especially kieran culkin's performance
Great man , did you liked it ?
I hate horror but I didn’t find it too scary? Idk if spoils prolly not but I’ll tag still ||ig I was on edge sometimes and there was 1-2 jump scares? But overall I was expecting some like screaming shit. Ion ever watch horror movies so maybe I just don’t know what horror is or maybe it’s gore and jump scares I dislike|| ig nosferatu idk!!!!!
Yes especially that final episode. I’ll watch season two tomorrow.
Niceeee , have a good watch

Nosferatu tonight
Let's gooooooo
Bought some smaller books lol
Haven’t watched the lord of the rings movies besides like the first hour and after game of thrones I thought I’d do my due diligence and read them
Best way to experience lotr is the anime movie

-bluepikmin
Does this count as an offense ?
Best way to experience lotr is the rankin bass version but with all the original music turned off and the Howard Shore compositions playing in their place
Have absolutely no idea what you said but it sounds like a hell yea sentence
Yeah it’s definitely not scary
It was more of an atmospheric horror
Lmk if it’s good
the music is so good
Daft Punks second best feature length music video
😭
Tragically bumping Nosferatu down to a pitiful 4 and a half stars instead of 5
I looked at my list and I was like
nah I still prefer Suspiria and Carrie to this movie they cant be on the same tier
being next to films like Angels Egg and Eyes Without a Face feels like a better home
I hope Eggers can forgive me
Nosferatu in an hour and a half, never been more ready, i’ve managed to avoid spoilers almost entirely
Did get spoiled on one thing || which is that, despite not knowing what count orlock looks like at all i’ve seen the prosthetic than Nicholas Hoult kept
|| Nosferatu
@young compass watch "all we imagine as light", you'll like it
@mild seal insanity just happened
CR C3 latest ||what an insane yet poetic fight||

Warrior movie : Done ✔️
5/5 movie at the beginning of the year
Warrior || UFC main event but with thick emotional plot||
@young compass have you watched it? You will like it since you watch ufc.
I have lol
it's a fun film
probably the best MMA film, in terms of MMA as a sport
lots of martial art series that use MMA fighting though
sorry i meant movies, yeah
they're just not like, MMA movies
donnie yen tends to do a lot of MMA shit in his films
flashpoint was all just him doing MMA techniques lol
Stormlight 4: Rhythm of War Chapter 21 ||Adolin is so funny man||
Squid Game S2E7
that’s MOTHER
Nosferatu was even better than i was expecting, will compile my thoughts later but wow
Peak…
dang you compiled those thoughts quickly
@young compass watched "small things like these", i agree that while cillian murphy is great in it (as usual), its not a great film on its own
didnt do much for me
Squid Game S2E7 ||NEVER forgiving 388||
Finished The Lowland, excellent book
Onto Wolf Hall and then the rest of the Cromwell Trilogy
@raw gate my fyp is filled with anora clips now
2 months later after its release for no reason at all
I manifested it for you
Finished Arcane S2 ||That was pretty good. While I've definitely seen this sort of story before where hatred and justice fuel the themes, Arcane handled it very well. This show had one of the better takes of an all-seeing god archetype trying to take over the world. Viktor was more calm and wise in his pursuit to unify all, but even then, a future Viktor had to warn an exhausted Jayce that in all possibilities, the goal to unity brings nothing but people with dreamless pursuits. The joy in imperfection in people is well emphasized here and had me thinking critically about it after finishing Arcane. Powerful ending. I liked the show overall. ||
||I don't get where the complaint of rushed story stuff from ppl on social media is coming from. I thought the arc of every character that had a central role wrapped up pretty well and everyone got to have a standout moment in the second season. ||
Yeah I'm split on how to rate it cuz like
As a remake I think it's perfect, what they accomplished given the high bar of the original is truly incredible
As a film in a vacuum I think it's like 4 or 4 and a half stars. I really love it but I've got a few small gripes
But yeah I got a watch Eggers' other stuff
Good take
SG S2 Ep 7 ||no literally she mothered so hard here, im in love||
||literally every character had a LETHAAALLL face card but she slayed the finale. Literally and figuratively
||
Nosferatu time
Nosferatu ||I was creeped out and disturbed , especially the ending scene, it wasn’t scary at all, but it was so disturbing to me that I still partially covered my eyes out of disgust, I like the proper portrayal of “Dracula” not being romantic or tragic but predatory as intended to be , it’s what makes him a “monster”||
Nosferatu ||also the movie is so dimly lit and grey shaded that it could almost be considered a black and white movie, nice little Easter egg lol||
Nosferatu ||I like how each of his movies explores a different condition and I probably enjoyed this film close to as much as the Lighthouse. Obviously Eggers is known for atmospheric stuff but I think this movie really nailed the gothic occult setting while having lust and sexuality as a backdrop. The sexual themes and tone enhanced the movie rather than being too much of a distraction which is good. Was a bit worried it’d be too extra but it definitely wasn’t. Great film 👍||
Peaking at the start of 2025, it’s all downhill from here
Stormlight 1: The Way of Kings END || https://youtu.be/_RHFf4QPCMA?si=eOxzrwm8BUwnMq0L ||
Life before death.
Strength Before Weakness.
Journey before Destination.
This is an animatic I've been working on for the past year and a half. While working in professional animation projects I learned a lot on how to make this type of cinematic storyboards and being a fan of both "The Stormlight Archives" and "The Black Piper" music I was ins...
This is sick as fuck
Will wheel of time every get this…
These book series need to be animated and not live action. It’s a travesty what happened to WoT
The actors do their best but the writers are cooking up some bullshit

It's not amazing but i didn't think it was a complete waste of time there's some stuff to enjoy
Sonic boom || https://vxtwitter.com/MelodicQuest/status/1874969490569724167 ||

Creature commandos is pretty good
Inside Out 2 ||okay this film immediately got more interesting when they got thrown in the vault||
Probably not
Okay Inside Out 2 keeps getting better I think this one actually is a Pixar classic
Like it way more than the first one
Gotta actually follow this studio again
