Finished Nimona ||I really loved how thoroughly developed and fun the bond between the innocent knight and Nimona are. They developed well enough that the climax of the knight stopping Nimona became so emotionally charged and effective for me. The importance of just accepting that Nimona is Nimona is so well done. I was thoroughly invested almost the entire way through, but I am a little mixed on the ending, because I thought the ending felt a little anti-climatic. I wish there was a moment for Nimona and the knight to interact before the film closed. Still, I liked this for the most part. I could tell this story was written with so much care by the author.||

WaT 122 || Some really amazing stuff here. First this makes the whole thing with Mishram's capture much more nuanced. Tanavast was already losing, and stopping a direct clash of gods being the top of his list is very very valid. Could he have trusted Mishram, yes. And ye probably did. But what he didn't trust was Odium Shard, and since he himself was losing against his shard, he was correct in being afraid of that.

Impact of Nohadon being shown brought tears to my eyes. Such a wonderful person.

Another one is about the passage of time. Tanavast sat in Shinovar listening for 2500 years. And a convo between him and Rayse was equivalent to much more in real life, like how he held Rayse's attention which allowed Mishram couple of years to find the pool.

The other best part of this chapter, other than shedding light on Mishram ordeal, was this comment.

"A god who cares? You killed that god

I maybe interpreting too much but what it seems to be is that the 16 from Yolen (and Cephandrius) killed Adonalsium due to thinking of him as a worthless god or an indifferent one, cuz he didn't do anything which meant he didn't care.
But in not doing anything was he doing the most good. He created life, planets and then he just continued listening. He was there, but not as an active force cuz he had known that any of his meddling would just cause ruin. And by that he was being the most benevolent god the cosmere could get cuz he understood his own dangers. There was another point in this book where Tanavast mentions that Adonalsium just let them kill him, without putting up any fight. He might have known his death, shattering would have led to individual pieces which would be more terrible as they don't have those which keep them in balance, but even that was a more preferable outcome than one where he would have fought. His existence being completely vanquished was more right for him than even doing anything to try to stop them.

Finished G Toro’s Pinocchio || This was a very dark version of the story that I greatly enjoyed. I loved Pinocchio’s arc and how he goes through so much shit to learn the importance of parenthood and selflessness. His sacrifice to save his grandpa was very powerful and emotional. Though, The only thing I was a little antsy on in the climax is the cricket not doing much to help raise Pinocchio properly to earn the wish from the fairy. He was mostly treated as a gag throughout, and although those bits were funny, he ended up playing a useless role up until the end. Still the movie’s ending was very emotional and effective. I really liked it. ||

G Toro's Pinocchio ||I like how Jiminy Cricket is framed at the movies end, it pulls his character together. He IS a bad role model, he IS a bad adoptive parent. Pinocchio going through what he did is partially his fault. But that's his failing, not Pinocchio's, cuz he showed throughout his journey that children are inherently good. It's the world of adults that's muddy and complicated, not the children affected by them. Instead Pinocchio has to learn that just because he's not a real boy doesn't mean the world has no consequences.

It's the big change he brings in his version and I think it's a valuable perspective on the story.||

G Toro's Pinocchio ||Worst thing about the movie is the terrible musical numbers early on. I get that he leans into Disney nostalgia with the audience expectations for the Pinocchio story, only to subvert them as the movie goes on, but given that it opens with a church being bombed by Austro-Hungarian forces it's really not effective. You're emotionally distanced from the Disney version before the first song even starts

Finished watching Leo ||I sorta liked it. The film pulls out all the stops on the comedy aspect, while also telling a decent story of a boomer lizard teaching kids about getting through life. While I did find most of the comedy pretty funny, I also found it to be too much. While I got the movie's messages, there's this feeling of the comedy overshadowing the serious storytelling to the film's detriment that prevents me from liking this more. Like even though I liked the lizard's central role in the story, I didn't like his grating voice. Another example, why bother singing musically if the songs are gonna be so short. Just a lot of odd decisions in the movie that make me feel positive but mixed.||

Finished watching 37 Seconds ||What I thought would be a story about a disabled mangaka turned about to be a slow but thorough and respectful exploration of how disabled people are treated by others. It's a protagonist striving her hardest to be her own independent person, working hard to not only forward her mangaka career, but also to find her lost family members in ways that help progress herself as a character. I felt all sorts of emotions watching this, mostly anxiety because I was wary that the story might cross a line, but thankfully it stays away from any dark plot devices. I loved this film.||

sonic 3 ||movie was great tbh. I do have some issues though. Maria's influence on shadow was changed which kinda took away part of the conflict of saving/destroying earth. And her death was kinda done dirty without having last words. She didnt say "sayonara, shadow the hedgehog".... Im glad there were a couple songs with live and learn motif, which was a good leadup to a snippet of the song at the end of the film. The star light thing was a good replacement for the earth stuff maria says, but still less relevant to the actual goals of shadow.

Plot was a lot closer to the games for this than the other movies as well. And I like that the humans (tom and co or w/e) took a backseat compared to the first two movies.

Occasional references it had were nice and tastefully implemented||

Absolutely loved Adolin's entire story, the unoathed for now is a bit cringe but I'll let it pass cause it'll probably lead to some cool stuff.
You might know I'm not the biggest fan of shallan but I actually liked her part - her fight with mraize was cool to see from his pov, and i like that she ended up stranded, could set up some really juicy stuff for the second half.
Dalinar's and navani's story was nothing special imo, some flashbacks were really interesting, others less so. the duel and dalinar's death i still need to form my thoughts about.
Tanavast's flashbacks were all fascinating and very appreciated.
Szeths' flashback was probably the most consistent of the flashbacks (actually nvm i'd place RoW's flashback above it in consistency) but i felt it lacked the true punch that every previous flashback delievered at some point. its never bad or even not good but its also never incredible. what i'm trying to say is that its really good but i kinda wanted more.
Szeth's present story was great and his interactinos with kaladin and his spren were one of the best parts of the book for me.
And of course my goat kaladin was incredible throughout (a bit cringy with his first attempts of helping szeth/ishar/nale but it made sense) and i'm excited to see where his character will go moving forward, as his arc seems pretty much complete - but sanderson has said the heralds will have a bigger focus in the second half so maybe he's still got ways to go. ||

Finished watching Mitchell vs. the Machines ||The journey is absolutely wild all the way through with the animation and its sense of humor. Personally speaking, some of its comedy was a little too normie for my tastes, but its compensated for the fact that there's a decent moral to be found with how the daughter and father bond over the course of the story. Nothing groundbreaking in the themes it explores, but the film certainly has the most fun ways to illustrate those themes. My only real complaint is that a few bits of animation can be visually eye-straining at times. Otherwise, I had fun. I liked it.||

The attorney of Zuck stating the fact to zuck himself that he is not an asshole, he is trying hard to be, meaning that Mark was directly or indirectly scheming the whole thing with stealing the twins idea, throwing Eduardo under the bus, and calling police on Sean, 2. The 2nd part is the best, it shows him adding his ex as a friend, and refreshing the page uncontrollably, this is pretty much what happens in real life, you add a person/follow a person who you want their attention, like a crush, or a friend on IG, FB...etc, and being paranoid if whether they will accept the follow/add friend request, or block you.||

WaT all || Where to start? I suppose with the negatives

The book is bloated. It could easily be cut by 20% and nothing of value would be lost. Brandon repeats himself a lot, and it became more apparent to me in this book than in any of his others. Often times when a character has an perception/thought/emotion, Brandon dedicates time to interpreting the meaning of it and the text ends up feelings needlessly wordy and hand-holdy.

The Venli and Renarin/Rlain chapters dragged. There just was not enough substance there to warrant the amount of text dedicated to them imo.

Also Brandon STOP SPOILING YOUR OWN BOOKS. The WoB spoiler that Taln did not break kind of pisses me off. But also the "foreshadowing" Brandon does within his own books is sometimes too direct. Some epigraphs straight up spoil the book.

I do not like the Blackthorn spren/cognitive shadow development.

I had trouble suspending my disbelief in some parts - like peg leg Adolin fending off Abidi, and Kaladin's employing therapy felt jarring at first.

Despite that though the Adolin and Szeth/Kal chapters were the standouts for me. I love Adolin's relationships with Maya and the Azish and the reveal of the unoathed leaves lots of room for interesting development.

Szeth/Kal's plotline was also very engaging and interesting and I feel concluded in a very satisfying way for both characters. Lots of great moments.

Tanavast visions were were cool and appreciated.

I liked Shallan's chapters, particularly at the beginning when she was infiltrating the ghostbloods and at the end when she was able to speak with her mother.

I quite liked the Jasnah/Taravangian debate. I thought it was well done. I look forward to the day Jasnah finds out Tarvangian is a hypocrite.|| @sage remnant @obsidian basalt

Disagree. Every of Venli's POVs were necessary. And like 80% of those were lore drop ones. Disagree on Rlain and Renarin one too. The early lack of focus sort was deliberate due to no one making sense of Spiritual Realm and later served as parallel to Garith and the singer and also to their realization in righting the wrong that BAM was captured.

Won't say I had that issue. Kaladin's therapy was jarring at first and that was to even Kal himself - he has admitted that he sucked at it. Adolin fending off Abidi wasn't any more crazy than Kal killing Helaran, especially since we see that wearer's power isn't that necessary since even Notum can wear the plate. Adolin had wore the plate for most of his life and has had training from someone who has prepared him for these. Abidi would have won faster if he wasn't in plate ||

I understand people thinking Utiliitarianism was poorly shown (I don't know much on it to argue against it) but the other issue is surprising me. I don't think that was the case as Jasnah was winning until Todium pulled out the contract to kill Aesudan which she couldn't have prepared for since she doesn't know Shards could get those stuff from past ||
