The dark forest (3 body 2) || really mixed impression, a lot to love but also a few things I hate. Pretty much everything w his wife I didn't like. Was rolling my eyes when he went on imaginary dates and the fact that he mobilized the world's resources to track down his dream girl was kinda creepy to me. The girl didn't feel like a real character either. I was a little frustrated with how stupid and naive the human forces were. As soon as he started describing their idiot formation I knew they were gonna pay for it. Wall breakers were a let down. They had barely any scenes and just appeared out of nowhere to describe their target's schemes.
On the good side, the interactions between defeatism, escapism, and triumphalism. The fall of environmentalism and rise of hedonism in response to aliens. And the end scenes in space that primed you to understand the game theory of the dark forest. ||

Inside Out 2 spoiler talk ||The writers and artists really melded together to portray really creative portrayals of emotion and stages of puberty in Riley's mind that really enhance the emotional storytelling. It's absolutely inspirational. In particular, the brainstorm being a literal storm of ideas falling down from the sky was so genius. It's all so particularly constructed in a way that made me intensely observe all the new world-building and characters in the film and see how those ideas all came together in the end. And maybe this is just the me who's been watching a lot of motivational sports anime lately, but I felt getting Riley to overcome her struggles with anxiety through winning the prominent hockey camp match that gets her in the team was the perfect choice to really display her character growth internally and externally through her actions and movements. The teenage drama wasn't too heavy handed either. It was very good that most of the human characters were written in a nuanced way that were more on the understanding and tolerant side. Had it been too heavy, it would have killed the film entirely and the key scene where Riley apologized to her former friends would have not hit as hard. I almost cried during that moment, almost having happy tears because of how the film came together and how Riley overcame her internal struggle.||

I NEED a sequel so bad within the next few years. Absolute banger. Definitely a better film than the first. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
