Maybe at some point you could practice drawing full-body characters? There's a ton of reference images and base drawings of various poses, hands, and a lot more online if you're thinking of practicing further, especially when it comes to more complex body-shaped characters like Jinbei

-though, I think when it comes down to size, it's mostly of how your eye views the paper. Like, having a bigger canvas will make your eyes focus on the entire thing instead of the center/or little details, while small canvases make your eyes see the small details since you have more control over it--
Though, that's how i just view it, at least

The way how I see it when it comes to drawing in various sizes, it feels like it has more to do with how you controll your mind on the paper and the image that you have in your mind that you want to draw out with your hand. Not only that, but I think being able to make straight lines without your hand shaking is the first step at controlling the way you draw when it comes to art, so by the time you start doodling small things in a big canvas, you'll learn how to controll the size of your drawings in no time

Again, that's just the way I perceive it since most of this is coming from personal experience and watching way too many tutorial vids and scrolling through Pinterest and Google- at the end of the day, you have all the time in the world for trials and errors with your art, that's why its ok to make mistakes because you learn from them over time in your drawings.

Yea I will admit I do sometimes feel my hand shake when I’m drawing. I don’t know if it’s fear or trembling but it is annoying that it doesn’t stop sometimes. I feel like if I can stop shaking, my lines could improve even further. And I definitely wanna learn how to draw specific poses/full body creations but I honestly don’t know how I would draw let’s say Jinbe’s feet/hands/arms/and the scariest one fingers. With my hand shaking sometimes it’ll just ruin the experience. Maybe I could look at Jinbe’s body and try to make a hand or something, i just have to keep practicing in different ways maybe.

(Plus my anatomy isn’t the best so there’s that as well.)

But don't worry, It's perfectly normal for your hands to shake when drawing, it isn't anything too bad, you just need to get used to it after enough practice.

It's ok if practicing some things like body shapes and hands are intimidating, that's why there are specific techniques to get better at drawing em. I genuinely believe that learning simpler techniques to get better at drawing somethings are another way of finding your art style

@kindred tartan I am so bad at doing spiky hair😭 I think not only I messed the hair up but the head proportion is kinda wacky. I am not used to this and I keep running out of space, i really wish I could manage my space better somehow)

The problem is that you don't exactly have a base yet--
Most of the drawings I've seen from you always start with the face, but you never sketch out a base.
Sketching the base helps where you want the eyes, mouth, and nose to be as well as the head, body, ears, and limbs

guidelines help with that
especially drawing without reference
having a solid base and planning things out will bring better results.
just do a light one, just to map out where things are
proportions are the biggest thing that makes a drawing looks right
details are really not as important

I always think that starting with the face would be a good idea but i never really thought of creating a base. even if i create a base i don't know how i would make a base for a specific character. I've even been reaching out on twitter and some artists showed me that you can just start with basic shapes (like circles to start the body/shape) i don't even know how to begin practicing guidelines. I'm still a rookie so i don't know my full potential or full skill celling yet, i think i'm gonna scrap the drawing for now. (sorry for the large wall of text)

if it helps you could imagine and visualise the character in your head, it's a technical 3D thing after all

and like actually study the people's art you like

what makes their art so good

you don't have to physically draw to actually get better at art you just need to be able to properly break down and visualise your fav artists' art

lemme like give an example rq hold on

at first a lot of "random" lines or things artists u like draw might not make sense to you, like "why do they draw this random strand of hair that does that" or "why is that shadow/light there"

but once you actually understand like basic geometry and visualise why artists draw like that you'll get better at art!

This is a really bad example but it's like those clothing physics simulations but captured at a specific time

the sphere with cloth on top is still a sphere even though it no longer actually looks like one ykyk

so you have to start with a shape, it doesn't have to be a circle

some artists use bean shapes

but it HAS to be a continuous 3D shape that makes sense to you

rushed drawing but as u can see my guidelines are there I still use those nasty nasty crosses for my perspective @pulsar saddle

all in all art is art so draw whatever makes u happy people just happen to like looking at pretty things and it makes them happy so they draw them

honestly this might be an unpopular take but tracing is good if you don't claim it as ur own

if u credit the og artist it's a really really good way to learn the reason behind the lines of the drawing

Someone probably explained this (considering how late I am to this, I am so sorry--), but they weren't wrong to start with basic shapes like circles. Shapes are extremely important in art, so doing a circle for the head as the base could be a start--
Doing guidelines isn't too hard, really. Picture this: a circle with a straight line coming from top to bottom of the circle, and another line coming in horizontally from left side of the circle to the right. Usually that's how you start things off when doing the base for the head, then you try adding 2 more circles, this time they're smaller and on top of the horizontal line in the center (and separate, of course), to represent the eyes. <- this example that I'm giving you is how guidelines are usually formed. It's like giving yourself instructions on how to draw certain objects.

I'm not sure if I'm making any sense but, just know that improving takes time, too, so you can never rush things because then it won't come out the way you want it to.
And hey, if you want, I could give you some tips in DMs and even some drawing examples if you want a more simpler way of understanding.

If you look at a picture hard enough you see folds creases hair strands and whatnot and shapes
