This month we're doing something OPLA-related for the release of Netflix's live-action series.

We'll be redrawing episode stills, promotional posters and artwork, behind the scenes images, and even photoshoots. You can pick one of any of the aforementioned types and draw them in any style, be it your own or an emulation of the anime or manga. Once the event's over, all the submissions will be put together in a showcase thread.

✍️ A few things to note:

• 🗒️ There are no specific dimensions required for each submission, however it is strongly encouraged that you maintain the same aspect ratio as the source you are redrawing. For example, if you're redrawing an episode still, the aspect ratio would be 16:9.
• 📸 If you opt to redraw a photoshoot make sure to draw the cast members as their portrayed characters.
• 🧸 You can redraw (almost) any still from the show, just keep it safe for work.
• ‼️Don't trace for your submission, keep it original!

Art bros, what do you guys think about using the color picker on your ref image 🤔 it feels like a shortcut but does it help you learn about colors or will it become a crutch?

Always good to experiment with different ones then just it needs to be this color cause the ref is that

It sometimes can if u use it ALL the time, but if ur just starting out not rlly, personally i just like to get my color as close as possible on the color wheel and then color pick and compare the two to see if it i got it close

But yeah like kien said, u dont always have to follow the colors in the ref

if you're trying to practice lighting, it makes sense to start with the original color and try to adjust it to the lighting from my experience

but I'd love to hear buffy and offbased's takes on this as well since they understand lighting a lot more than me

The top one has a more dynamic angle due to being a worm's eye view, but the bottom one has more dynamic/interesting shapes, so I personally like the second one better, but the top is simpler and cleaner in its presentation and probably reads better as a silhouette.

When I was growing up as a young, budding artist, I didn't really have forums to ask people "what should I draw?" I just drew whatever my heart desired whether that be bodybuilders, DBZ, Pokemon, or Final Fantasy portraits. That's what I recommend to everyone here who comes in saying "I don't know what to draw" or "name me 6 people to draw." You know in your heart what you want to draw. So just draw that.

And if you want a challenge, or to grow as an artist, draw the harder thing.

the idea is there but next time I would take more time to slowly map out the proportions because I think you drew this pretty fast which is not always the wisest thing.

some of them are yes, the right arm is not creating the appropriate gap inbetween her forearm and waist for example.

her right hand does not look like it's resting on her right leg

her right leg looks almost straight on not bent as it does in the original image, it also doesn't look like she's putting weight on her right legh

whenever you finish one of these, it's good to also practice the same pose in the mirror and see if you can understand what's happening in your reference., also, when you finish these, take out an anatomy book to study how you got things right or wrong.
