btw, I think there is a reverse psychology that happens here when you say things like this to an audience or even just one other person. So, if you proclaim you're going to do something and others congratulate you on the fact you plan to do something, if memory serves me correctly, it tricks your brain by releasing endorphins because of people praising you which in turn has a higher chance of making you NOT do the thing you said you were going to do. I heard it best explained as the the praise people give you for saying you're going to do something releasing the same endorphins you would get from actually finishing the project, so you get the satisfying feeling of completing the project without having actually done the project, which leads to a viscous cycles of 1. not doing anything 2. getting depressed about not doing anything 3. telling people you're going to do something 4. rinse and repeat the cycle. As an example, notice how you finish the pixel art stuff without ever making it an announcement. You just post them and that's that.

Mm yeah, I've actually heard about this before. And it's definitely true as I've noticed that happen a lot with many of my older projects when I was a little younger.

It's a double-edged sword for sure. Can get you psyched up to do something while also putting a dent in your path to progress.

i couldnt agree more, and its definitely true. There was one time where i proclaimed to animate something to a huge public, even thought i have 0 experience on animation in that time frame, i felt amazing with the cheers and praise for something i haven't even begun...i ended up not doing it at all..the time went by slowly and i started to feel extremely guilty to raise expectations and got depressed for that. Now i rarely proclaim anything, but if i actually do is because i know i will definitely make it through with my word and not another "bluff" to trick myself and getting that sweet endorphin boost

hmm it will depend how huge your projects and how ambitious they really are. Personally even tho i rarely announce any of my projects, i like to tackle big projects that ik for sure that 1- i'll learn a lot just for trying to do it, and ending up with a meh result, however its better than giving up in the middle of something and 2- projects that im confident i can pull off with my current skills, 3-give yourself a reasonable and doable timeframe to finish what you are planing, personally i love working with some pressure on my mind, it gives me that extra motivation and drive to finish what i started, however dont punish yourself if you couldnt make it trhough, having fun is always the key!

I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself. You were in middle school as you said, prime time for dabbling in a bunch of stuff that sounds cool in your head. I had the same ambition with a webcomic which I didn’t get close to finishing, but I still got like 170 pages done. After that experience I know exactly how I wanna tackle comics in the future.
