Holy shit its touching, one of the best written character backstory at least among the Don Quixote Family. Then again, when I look at the Family, aside from Doflamingo and Rocinante, the rest seem to be just flat characters, or perhaps their backstories aren't explored yet.

I watch the one piece anime primarily in dub, and one thing I hear from people when they find out I watch the dub, is “how can you watch it with Luffys voice being excruciating/annoying/etc.”
Every time I try to ask ab why they think that, they always bring up points like “he’s too squeaky” or “sounds too childish” which for me, are not only things I would associate with Luffys voice, but also carry over in his Japanese voice. (Be it sounding closer to something like bart Simpson instead of an old lady). If anyone is of the opinion Luffys voice is flawed in the dub, could you give me some insight and some examples of dub performances that would suit Luffys English voice better? This is just a very niche but intriguing discussion I haven’t been able to have.
