1. To save the pacing of Marineford, if Oda spammed flashbacks in Marineford (with the Garp and Oars flashbacks already there) then the pacing would be seriously fucked

2. The flashback is also utilized to explain to the audience why Ace chose to confront Akainu instead of running away. Its a flashback designed for the audience to view the events of Marineford in retrospect.

It simply wouldnt work the same if it was before, you can argue that you may have fundamentally enjoyed Aces character more with this context before Marineford. But the beauty of it is that you finally understand him after his passing.
